Chapter 1707: S: The Apocalypse Event (Part 10)
"Batman! Batman! Let me out, damn it, everyone is outside, and only I am locked here!!!"
In the pitch-black secret room, Damian knocked on the railing in depression. Suddenly, Batman's avatar appeared on the screen in the room. Damian bared his teeth, as if he wanted to bite Batman's head off through the screen.
"Darkseid is coming for me, you stay honestly, don't make any noise."
With a "swish", the communication hung up again. Damian was stunned for three seconds, then jumped up like a rocket in anger. He began to hammer the railing frantically, but it was useless.
On the other side, Batman, who hung up the communication, turned back to continue working. Superman, who was standing behind him, looked at his back and said: "Is this your way of coaxing people? He is your son, not your enemy. Diana and I really wasted our breath."
Batman sat silently in front of the console, operating the instrument while saying: "That's not a prison, but a restricted room with sufficient sanitary facilities. I believe that compared to me now, he should use the TV to watch cartoons."
Superman sighed for a long time. I am afraid he was the only one on the scene who could hear the soothing meaning from those few sentences that were not very clear in the boundary between threat and intimidation.
Batman was actually warning his son that this super big villain was coming for him, and he had no human moral values and would do anything to achieve his goals. He would definitely set his sights on Batman's relatives. Darkseid had a very high probability of setting his sights on Damian. Batman doing this was also to protect him.
Of course, now Batman had more than one blood relative, but Batman believed that with the current state of his biological father and mother, Darkseid's troops would have to take two big slaps before leaving.
Batman also wanted to lock up all the Robins, which was the safest, but his positioning device showed that the Robins were still within the range of Gotham City. If he rushed in to catch people, he would have to take more than two big slaps.
On the edge of the galaxy, Darkseid's loyal fleet of Apokolips, this huge fleet composed of 26 main ships and more than 160 escort ships, was hovering quietly in the dark cosmic space, with only the cold light emitted by the joint shield flickering weakly.
In the command room of the main ship, a small-eyed male wearing a gold and red military uniform and a monocle was staring closely at the screen of the combat monitor, while another strong man wearing heavy black-red armor behind him paced impatiently in the room, saying in a hoarse voice full of murderous intent.
"Viman, how long do you want to take, you bastard?! Why haven't I seen His Majesty's huge fleet swallow this weak planet? You are simply a waste! Waste!"
"General Steppenwolf, please be patient," the man called Viman smiled lightly, pushed his glasses and said: "The transmission gate of the tunnel is opening gradually. We have sent 45 units of soldiers into it, enough to keep a group of superheroes on Earth busy for a while."
"This is not enough... this is not enough!" Steppenwolf roared: "I want to see blood swallow this planet, just as I did for His Majesty in the past. You damn despicable villain, you usurped my command position, but you can't produce any results to offer to His Majesty!!!"
The smile on Viman's face cooled down, the corners of his mouth drooped slightly, making the fat on his face sag more heavily, revealing gloom and calculation.
"General Steppenwolf, haven't you thought about why His Majesty Darkseid sent me here this time?"
"Of course it's because you bewitched His Majesty! As a weak commander, you should honestly stay in the rear. Making contributions on the front line is my task! I also want to... I also want to..."
"Are you saying that His Majesty is the kind of person who can be easily bewitched?"
"I, I of course didn't say that." Steppenwolf stopped his steps, walked up and glared at Viman fiercely and said: "Don't play this set with me! I'm not a palace attendant you can tease at will. I tell you, Viman, in the past, I didn't even need 30 seconds to conquer a planet of this size, and you have dragged it for almost ten hours."
"If you can't produce decent results before today and attract His Majesty Darkseid's dissatisfaction, you know the consequences better than I do!"
"Of course, General." Viman bowed slightly. Facing Steppenwolf's rage, a flash of disdain flashed in his eyes, and then he raised a hand in front of his face, turned it over with his palm facing up, and made a relaxed posture and said: "Since His Majesty sent me here, he naturally feels that I am more suitable to handle the affairs here. Otherwise, why not let you, the wise and martial General, continue to make contributions for him?"
"Hmph, isn't it because you and that old woman spoke ill of me behind my back... Don't sell the pass, if something really goes wrong, both of us will lose our heads."
"General, please think about it, what exactly is His Majesty's fleet here for this time?"
"Of course it's to conquer Earth."
Viman turned around, the disdain on his face was almost impossible to hide, but he still tried to use euphemistic language to prompt: "Then why didn't he send you directly?"
"You mean..."
"Ordinary humans are not to be feared at all. Only the weakest of the Female Furies are enough to sweep an entire planet. But this is a magical race, and the gap between their upper and lower limits is extremely large."
"Although His Majesty Darkseid didn't say it clearly, I am afraid that some individuals on this planet also make him feel a bit tricky."
"You're talking nonsense!" Steppenwolf raised his voice and said: "There is no opponent of His Majesty in the universe!"
"Of course, I'm not saying that His Majesty is afraid of them, it's just that if His Majesty came in person
"So you mean to..."
"Apokolips has traversed the universe for so many years, and it hasn't relied solely on killing and fighting. When has His Majesty ever let us praise him for his martial prowess? It is not just our martial power that makes us nobler than these low-level creatures."
Steppenwolf let out a cold snort. He could hear the insults hidden in Viman's words, but he was unwilling to argue about it at this moment. Instead, he turned around and said, "I know you are a master of intrigue; otherwise, you wouldn't have climbed to such a high position under that cruel old hag."
"You flatter me, General." Viman sighed softly, a cold light reflecting off his monocle. He continued, "Every superhero on Earth must think we will launch a frontal assault with force. They have inevitably gathered all their strength, poised and ready to welcome the impact of our army."
"They want the grand spectacle of an alien invasion, so we shall give it to them. In any case, those Parademon troops are worthless. We can just go to any star sector and plunder some population; they can be converted in a few days. Just take them and let them be slaughtered."
"But this time, the reason I advised His Majesty not to send the Female Furies is because I know there is no need for us to go head-to-head with this group of special humans. We only need to achieve our own goals."
Steppenwolf turned back around, frowning as he stared at Viman's expression, seemingly wanting to find a trace of a clue on his face. But Viman's expression remained icy. He would not reveal the special mission His Majesty Darkseid had given him, so he simply said.
"Catch the bandits by catching their leader first. According to the intelligence I have gathered on Earth, there is an intellectual mastermind among this group of special humans. It is he who gathered so many superheroes and even contacted the Green Lantern Corps to investigate intelligence on Apokolips."
"Little did he know that I had already made preparations within the Green Lantern Corps. The intelligence he obtained regarding Apokolips was all intentionally leaked by me, with the sole purpose of making him believe that our arrival this time is aggressive, intended to destroy the Earth and eliminate humanity."
"But in reality, the target of our plan this time is the man himself."
Steppenwolf still stared intently at Viman; he knew the other party was hiding something from him. If that were the case, wouldn't eliminating humanity also eliminate this mastermind? But now it sounded like Viman wanted to capture him alive. Could this be a special mission from His Majesty Darkseid? What is so special about this mastermind?
But he did not ask. After turning the thought over in his mind a few times, he spoke up: "You want to capture him alive? What do you intend to do?"
"According to the human intelligence I have collected, humans are a rather peculiar species. They are very weak, yet they possess extremely powerful emotions, to the point where they can allow their frail bodies to withstand the powerful force of a power ring. Hal Jordan is quite famous within the Green Lantern Corps, yet he was once just a fragile human."
Viman adjusted his monocle, turned his head to stare at the screen, and said, "In my view, this is a sign of incomplete evolution. If they are too easily swayed by emotion, they will never be able to understand what true power is."
"For a race to have such an obvious common weakness—they have managed to develop to this day, I fear, not without luck. Since this superhero mastermind, Batman, is also a human, we can naturally exploit his emotions. As far as I know, he has children."
"Is that why you sent Kanto down?"
At this moment, above the Earth, a black-haired man wearing yellow and purple armor with a white cape fluttering behind him was looking at a small instrument in his hand. It was a tiny screen showing an entire planet rotating, and many dots were lighting up on the planet's surface.
After staring at it for a long time, he frowned and said, "What kind of piece of junk did that damn snake Viman get? Didn't he say it could show the aura of Batman's kin? Could there be more than one?"
"Hey, fleet? Connect me to the main control room. Yes, I'm looking for Viman Wandaba... Viman, is this little gadget you gave me broken? Several light dots on here keep flashing; which one is the son of Batman you were talking about?"
Viman, having connected the communication, frowned and said, "Impossible. Batman should only have one descendant; his aura would be very distinct. This is the latest invention developed by the research team under Lord Desaad; it cannot be faulty. Kanto, take a closer look."
Upon hearing the name Desaad, all of Kanto's complaints were stifled. This lord was a favorite in the eyes of His Majesty Darkseid; he wouldn't dare say an invention developed by him was broken, even if he were given ten times the courage.
Kanto fiddled with the small screen for a long time again, but in the end, he couldn't tell which of the constantly flashing dots on the screen was the target he was looking for. He scratched his head vigorously and said, "I'm a fighter, not a scientist. What a hassle... Forget it, I'll just go find them one by one. There aren't many of them anyway."
Kanto floated above the Earth, and after a brief moment of hesitation, he slowly flew toward the nearest light dot.
