Chapter 1807

~10 min read 1,940 words

The zombie Spider-Man swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

In the next second, he chased after the three figures running ahead at a speed that made his legs dance into afterimages.

But before they had run very far, the crazed zombie Captain America blocked their path again. Helen was just about to change direction again when she frowned, glanced at Captain America, and said, "This isn't Schiller, beat him up!"

Immediately, Helen and Venom pounced on him together. Because the two Spider-Men were a bit slower, by the time they ran over, Captain America had already been tackled by Venom.

Captain America seemed to have completely lost his tactical mind; when Venom pounced on him, he didn't even dodge. Venom grabbed Captain America's neck, instinctively wanting to bite off his head, but that terrible taste from his memories surged up, and he abandoned the plan on the spot.

Seeing Venom pinning Captain America down, Helen walked over and said, "What's going on? Why did he suddenly lose his mind?"

"He's possessed by a ghost," Eddie suddenly popped up and said. "I'm not telling a ghost story! Am I the only one who can see ghosts?"

Helen was stunned for a moment. At this time, the exhausted zombie Spider-Man walked up and said, "I saw those ghosts. When we were trapped in the base by monsters, I discovered that one group of monsters had no physical form; those must be what people often call ghosts."

"Are those ghosts?" Helen said, a bit puzzled. "Are all the monsters other than zombies ghosts?"

"No, not all of them, but at least half are." Zombie Spider-Man looked at Captain America, who was struggling frantically in Venom's hands, sighed, and said, "It's not just Captain America; the members of the Avengers seem to have all been possessed. I don't know why this is happening."

Eddie spoke up: "Venom and I believe that ghosts are a type of electromagnetic wave, and they share commonalities with human brainwaves. You can also understand them as a type of mutated soul that can remain here because of some special property and will not dissipate."

"When the frequency and wavelength of human brainwaves are consistent with those of a ghost, it is possible for the ghost to merge with the human brainwaves, which is what is commonly known as demonic possession."

"From Venom's perspective, whenever I am scared by a ghost or my mental state is relatively low, my brainwaves become similar to the ghost's, making it easier to be possessed. And when he controls my brainwaves to change completely, I might not even be able to see the ghost, and the ghost won't be able to have any effect on me."

Everyone's gaze fell on Captain America on the ground. Spider-Man was the first to ask, "So, is it because these zombie Avengers are feeling low and afraid that they were possessed by the ghosts that suddenly appeared?"

"But isn't this too coincidental?" Helen questioned. "The ghosts just happened to possess all the members of the Avengers, and even controlled them to activate a portal and come to this universe?"

"And then you..." Helen turned her head to look at zombie Spider-Man and said, "You said you saw a ghost wearing a lab coat in the room, but you weren't possessed. Why is that?"

Eddie looked at Helen and said, "You just mentioned Schiller. What does this have to do with Schiller?"

Helen looked at Eddie's expression, narrowed her eyes, and said, "You want to ask where Schiller is now, right? You know he came to the zombie universe."

"Yes, we originally came together." Eddie nodded and said, "Schiller said he was going on a business trip and asked if I wanted to come. I happened to be lacking creative inspiration recently, so I came with him. But who knew that when we passed through the portal, the portal would explode."

Eddie noticed Helen looking at him with the eyes one would use for an idiot. Helen scoffed and said, "The portal exploded? Even if the Earth exploded, the portal Schiller walked through wouldn't explode! It seems it really is the doctor's doing!"

"Schiller must have thought of some way to control these ghosts, letting them possess the Avengers... No, that's not right. Just now this Spider-Man said he saw a shadow wearing a lab coat... Has Schiller also turned into a ghost?!"

Eddie immediately shivered and glared at Helen, saying, "Don't tell ghost stories! Schiller is a living person; how could he turn into a ghost?"

"He is the most suitable person to turn into a ghost!" Helen immediately retorted. "If, according to your theory, the existence of ghosts is similar to human brainwaves, then Schiller's multiple personalities could potentially have multiple brainwaves. That is to say, he doesn't need to die to split off other brainwaves to exist independently."

Eddie widened his eyes, seemingly feeling that Helen was talking nonsense, but Venom spoke up: "It's not impossible, Eddie. Do you remember? Before we set off, we went to find Schiller to confirm the itinerary, but the nurse said he had gone to the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters to teach."

"Schiller has always lectured to mutants in the dream world; why did he suddenly go to the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters this time? And it was already evening; the students must have finished school long ago. So there is only one possibility: Schiller went to find Professor X."

The two Spider-Men suddenly looked at each other and said in unison, "Cerebro!"

Inside the head of Galactus floating in outer space, Stark was tinkering while watching the gray mist continuously spit out various useful parts and equipment.

After enduring for a long time, he finally couldn't take it anymore. He stood up with a wrench and looked at Schiller, saying, "Did you come up with another super big plan and keep it from us? You aren't thinking about driving a car into someone again, are you?!"

Schiller looked at him without speaking. Stark sighed deeply. He waved the wrench in his hand and said, "Let Schiller come out and talk to me. I must figure out what is going on, otherwise, I'm not doing it!"

Schiller still stared straight at him, his fingers fumbling with the handle of his umbrella, seemingly thinking about whether to take action. But just at this moment, Schiller's voice rang in his ear.

"Tony Stark, why do you have so many issues? Can't you just get to work? Can't you get to the bottom of it after the plan is completed?"

Stark was so frightened that his hair stood on end, and he almost jumped two meters high on the spot. He stumbled forward and fell, supported himself on the ground with his hands, turned around, and looked back to see a white shadow floating in mid-air.

"Ah!!!!!!!!!"

The scream echoed inside the head of Galactus.

Stark scrambled up from the ground in a panic, looked back at Schiller, who was standing behind him holding an umbrella sword without speaking, then looked back at the white-coated Schiller floating in mid-air, and then looked back at the Schiller holding the umbrella sword.

The Schiller in mid-air picked his ear, floated down slowly, and said, "What's with the surprise? Didn't you propose the ghost electromagnetic wave theory? Can't you just treat me as a segment of electromagnetic waves?"

"But, but... this, this is unscientific. No, I mean, it's not this kind of science, but this originally wasn't... God, what is going on here? You can even undergo mitosis?!"

"Didn't I say it? I am now an independent segment of electromagnetic waves; you can also understand it as a ghost in the traditional sense."

"I'm asking why you turned into a ghost!!!" Stark roared at Schiller. "Are you trying to make me accept this bizarre fact in two seconds and then obediently go back to work?! How is this possible?!!"

"Alright, the progress on the Earth side is a bit slow, so there is still some time to explain it to you, but this matter still has to start from the ghost electromagnetic wave theory you proposed..."

Accompanied by Schiller's narration, Stark recalled the scene when Nick pushed a life-support pod into his laboratory.

That day, Stark was performing routine maintenance on his armor when S. H. I. E. L. D. agents suddenly rushed in. Coulson led people to push in a strange piece of equipment, and Nick followed closely, striding in.

Stark looked at Nick with some surprise. Although this S. H. I. E. L. D. Director was slightly greedy on weekdays, he was able to sit in this position and remain unshaken; his way of handling things and his social skills were quite on point.

Stark knew that Nick understood the preferences of the heroes in the Avengers. Nick must have known that he hated people suddenly breaking into his lab, so he must have come for some very urgent matter this time. Therefore, Stark didn't pursue it too much and directly asked about the main business.

But Nick's first question made Stark want to blast him out. Nick looked at Stark very seriously and said, "What do you think about ghosts?"

The reason Stark wanted to blast Nick out was that he really didn't have much research in this area, and he thought Nick had been brought by those mages to ridicule him.

But a few minutes later, he knew what the emergency was. Nick had actually caught a ghost!

The matter was like this: one day, the mages of the New York Sanctum contacted S. H. I. E. L. D., requesting joint law enforcement because a police officer in their jurisdiction was possessed by a ghost. The mages came to the door, but the other people in the police station thought they were scammers and arrested them.

The mages needed official endorsement to successfully exorcise the ghost, so Coulson went. The exorcism ritual went quite smoothly, and the ghost successfully left the police officer's body.

The mages felt they had already eliminated the ghost, so they returned to the Sanctum. But this ghost was exceptionally cunning and hid on Coulson. After returning to S. H. I. E. L. D., Coulson went crazy.

Fortunately, Nick had handled such incidents before. He first subdued Coulson and then brought the mages over. The answer given by the mages was that this ghost was quite special; according to ordinary people's terms, this was a fierce ghost, not so easy to eliminate, and they needed some time to prepare.

But Nick was very curious about this because Coulson was not the kind of agent who was very good at fighting, but after being possessed by the ghost, he was like a different person.

In the words of Natasha, who subdued Coulson, even if Coulson's idol, Captain America, appeared in front of him today, he would have to take two big slaps from him, and more importantly, Captain America might not even be able to dodge.

The ghost-possessed Coulson was not only immensely strong but also extremely fast, and he bit anyone he saw; he was simply lawless.

So what else could this slightly greedy S. H. I. E. L. D. Director think of? Since agents can symbiote with symbiotes to gain powerful abilities, why can't they tame ghosts?

And listening to the mages, not all ghosts were completely mindless. If he could catch a few ghosts who were financial experts during their lifetime to work for him, wouldn't S. H. I. E. L. D.'s financial statements be sky-high?

Thinking this way, Nick immediately stopped the mages' action to eliminate the fierce ghost, had them enchant a life-support pod, and the shuttle plane, with sirens and flashing lights, sent this fresh ghost to Stark at the fastest speed.
