Chapter 1820

~10 min read 1,924 words

In the makeshift observation base in Xinmoxigezhou, Thor's massive frame was squeezed into a tiny interrogation chair, looking very out of place, but his gaze was fixed tightly on the hammer placed on the table opposite him.

"I..." Thor swallowed, shook his head, and said, "I was very angry when I heard about Jane's situation; I wanted to come and help her get the data back, but I didn't mean to cause such massive destruction."

Nick leaned on the table with both hands, leaning forward to look at Thor, and said, "The data regarding Dr. Jane Foster's atmospheric anomaly investigation report was obtained by S. H. I. E. L. D. within reasonable, legal, and compliant bounds; no matter who you are, you cannot use such means to violently resist the law."

"I told you I didn't mean to attack you!" Thor seemed a bit hesitant, but seeing Jane Foster staring at him worriedly outside the observation window, he sighed and said, "Maybe it's my old injury acting up; on the way here, I felt a sharp pain in my heart, the kind of pain I couldn't control at all."

Thor seemed very ashamed to admit he felt pain; he punched the table and said, "It's also possible that your Earth's environment is different from Asgard's, which is why I'm not acclimatized."

Natasha, with her hand resting on the hammer's handle, looked at Thor and said, "You said your heart hurts; have you been to a hospital to get it checked?"

"I don't know what a hospital is; don't bother me with your human stuff." Thor seemed a bit irritable, looking left and right, and said, "I thought I saw Loki just now; could this be another one of his pranks?"

"Who is Loki?" Natasha asked, knowing the answer.

"He's my brother; he especially likes to play pranks." Thor pursed his lips, but soon he said with some confusion, "But he wouldn't really hurt me; he wouldn't... he wouldn't make me hurt this much."

Natasha walked to Nick's side and said to him, "Something's not right; we should look at his medical report."

Nick nodded at Coulson on the side; Coulson went to the side to urge for the report, and Natasha walked out of the door and saw Jane Foster waiting anxiously outside.

"Will he be sentenced?" Jane shook her hair impatiently, spread her hands, and said, "I didn't let him just rush in like that; I followed behind him in my car, but he drove too fast, I couldn't catch up to him; I should have stopped him."

"Don't worry, Doctor." Natasha opened a new page in her notebook and asked Jane, "Did he show any abnormalities before?"

"He, he might be a mental patient." Jane Foster pursed her lips and said, "I met him on the road that day; he was shouting things I couldn't understand; I thought he was going to attack me, so my intern stunned him."

"I sent him to the hospital, but after he woke up, he caused a scene; I found that his mind was clear, it's just that he seemed like a primitive man."

Natasha actually knew these situations, but she pretended not to know, listened in detail, recorded it, and then asked the key point: "You said he rushed here, and you followed him in your car; did you notice any abnormal behavior on the way?"

"Abnormal behavior?" Jane Foster tried hard to recall and said, "I don't know, but if I had to say, he was a bit strange when he came out of the gas station, walking unsteadily."

"Gas station?" Natasha thought for a moment, then suddenly widened her eyes; she looked at Jane Foster and asked, "What did he do in the gas station?"

"I don't know, but his hair was wet when he came out; I guess he might have gone to wash his face."

Natasha immediately grasped the key point; she believed Thor didn't go to wash his face, but went to drink water.

Thor at this time basically had no common sense for living on Earth; the last time he came to Earth, humans hadn't industrialized at all, and he would drink from lakes when thirsty.

But there were neither lakes nor streams nearby; he likely rushed into the gas station to ask for water and was treated as a homeless person, so he had no choice but to drink from the faucet in the restroom.

Natasha remembered the sparkling coffee and water on the surface of the coffee liquid she had served Stark; was someone poisoning the liquid drinks?

But there was a key problem here: what kind of poison could be effective on both Stark and Thor, and not be detected by Loki's scan?

Just as Natasha was thinking, Coulson, holding a phone, rushed into the corridor and shouted at Natasha, "Get on the plane, Iron Man is in trouble!"

Two hours later, Natasha only had time to see Tony Stark being taken away by the police.

Seeing that Iron Man was still alive, Natasha breathed a sigh of relief, but immediately asked Coulson, "What exactly happened? What crime did Stark commit?"

Coulson held his forehead, looking very troubled, and said, "About three hours ago, Air Force Colonel Rhodes was found dead in his home; his wife called the police, saying that Rhodes had only had contact with Tony Stark last night."

"The military believes Stark killed Rhodes; now all the testimony is unfavorable to Stark; Rhodes' eldest son, Hancock, said he saw with his own eyes that his father's state became abnormal after drinking the bottle of wine Stark brought over, and he kept growling in the middle of the night."

The beautiful and cunning cat had spotted another fish, and the female agent never had the patience to cast bait carefully; she preferred using a harpoon directly.

"What about the forensic results?"

"Sudden cardiac paralysis." Coulson put his hands on his hips, sighed, and said, "But the military doesn't accept this explanation; they believe the Stark Group bribed the forensic examiner."

"The military has always been extremely dissatisfied with Stark closing the weapons department; Rhodes' death gave them a reason to make trouble; Stark's will to survive isn't strong, and he didn't even resist the accusations and arrest."

"I want to see him." Natasha looked at Coulson and said, "Go tell Nick, I must see him!"

Coulson said, looking overwhelmed, "Nick is also fighting for this opportunity, but the military won't let go so easily."

Natasha raised the hammer in her hand and said, "Isn't the military also paying attention to the object that fell from the sky in Xinmoxigezhou? Send this hammer and that alien to them for research, I want to see Tony Stark!"

Nick appeared behind her and said, "S. H. I. E. L. D. can't possibly give them these things..."

"Nick Fury!" Natasha turned and scolded Nick, "Don't tell me you haven't noticed, there's an invisible killer around us, ready to kill at any time."

"The last time I met Tony, there was an accident and he didn't succeed, so he set his sights on Colonel Rhodes; Thor's encounter is also evidence; if we don't catch him, everyone will die one by one."

Nick stared at Natasha's angry face, and finally nodded, saying, "The hammer can be given to them; they can't lift it anyway, but that alien named Thor cannot; if the killer is already targeting him, the military is powerless to protect him."

After speaking, he turned, picked up his phone, and said, "I'll talk to the military and arrange a secret meeting."

Natasha stared at Nick's back, gripping the hammer in her hand; this time, things were more troublesome than she had imagined; the opponent's target was the members of the Avengers.

But the problem was that the Avengers hadn't even been established yet; where did he get the list?

That same evening, Natasha saw Tony Stark in a special prison cell; as soon as she walked in, Tony stepped forward, grabbed the bars, stared at Natasha through the two bars, and said, "You were right, someone wants to kill me."

Then he lowered his head remorsefully and said, "I should have trusted your intelligence; how could I have brought a killer to Rhodes'? It was me who killed him."

"Let's not talk about this first." Natasha stood in front of him, hugging her arms and frowning, and said, "It wasn't just you and Rhodes who were attacked; even the alien who just fell from the sky was targeted by them."

Natasha reached out and grabbed a bar, stared into Stark's eyes, and said, "Tony, only you have the technical means to find this mysterious killer; you should understand what I mean."

"I can't... I can't... I have to be responsible for Rhodes' death."

"Rhodes still has a wife and son; do you think this killer will let the witnesses go so easily?" Although Natasha knew the killer's target wasn't Rhodes, she still bluffed and said, "They will want testimony unfavorable to you, and it will inevitably threaten the safety of Rhodes' family..."

Stark's grip on the bars tightened; after a long while, he made a decision, looked left and right, and said, "Then Stark Tower can't be used; I'll remotely control Jarvis to open the permissions; you help me move the equipment out."

Natasha nodded and turned to leave.

In Asgard, in Odin's palace, a figure in a green cloak and horned crown stood before Odin, exuding a biting chill.

He had just learned from his father's own mouth that he was not of Asgardian royal blood, but the son of the Frost Giant King Laufey; his life story from beginning to end was a lie, and all the father-son and brotherly affection was fake.

Just as Loki turned around, he suddenly thought there was a mirror behind him, because he saw another identical self standing before him.

"You are feeling sad." A low voice echoed in the palace, and even Odin behind Loki stared at the figure in shock.

"But why do you feel sad? Because of the deception, because of the alienation, because you finally found an answer for why you were not valued."

Loki retreated two steps in alert, looked at the Loki in front of him, and said, "Who are you?"

"I am Loki."

"I am Loki."

"I didn't say you weren't." Loki picked up his staff, stared at the brilliant gem on it, and said, "You are Loki, and I am Loki, but who we are doesn't matter; I just came to tell you that someone wants to kill your brother; he's dying."

"Liar!" A cold light flashed in Loki's eyes; with a "zila" sound, a magic beam hit the Mind Stone of the other Loki.

And Loki crossed his hands in front of his chest, then slowly stood straight and tilted his head back.

"Dong!"

As the staff struck down, endless magical ripples spread out, and a dazzling light enveloped the entire palace.

When the light dissipated, the figure of the other Loki was gone; the remaining Loki opened his eyes wide in shock, looked into mid-air, and said, "Who are you? Answer me! Speak clearly, what happened to Thor?! Damn it..."

Loki looked left and right, at a loss; turning back, he found Odin had already fallen into a deep sleep; he grabbed his staff and walked quickly out of the palace.

And just after he turned, Odin, who had already closed his eyes, slowly opened them; he stared quietly at Loki's back, the expression on his face appearing thoughtful.
