Chapter 1828: Journey of a Madman (Part 41)
"How did you come here?"
A voice much hoarser than usual echoed in the empty and dark room.
Helen just stared at Strange quietly. Strange repeated his question again, but Helen insisted: "You have to answer my question first, Sorcerer Supreme, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, better than fine." Strange supported the ground, his movements a bit stiff as he stood up, looking down at Helen from above: "How did you come here?"
Helen raised the briefcase and said: "We researched a machine that responds to summoning, and you happened to be summoning an evil god. We responded to your summoning, so naturally, we came here."
Helen raised her head and stared at Strange, asking: "Then why do you want to summon an evil god?"
"You seem to know me very well." Strange narrowed his eyes.
"You are our professor and dean." Harley walked forward, rubbing her stomach that was still churning constantly, and said: "The you in the other universe is not only the Sorcerer Supreme but also the dean of Kamar-Taj Magic Academy and a professor at Gotham Magic Academy. We have all taken your classes."
"Another universe? Is it the parallel universe you mentioned?"
Helen nodded: "That's right, we came from another parallel universe and are tracking a guy who is doing bad things."
Before Helen could finish speaking, Strange stepped forward. He knelt down halfway, pressed his hands on Helen's shoulders, and stared at her with burning eyes: "Then what about the Christine of that universe? Is she still alive?"
"Who is Christine?" Helen looked at him blankly.
"You don't know Christine? Have you never seen her?" Strange's hand on Helen's shoulder tightened slightly. He instinctively sensed that the little girl's body was as hard as rock, but he didn't have time to care about these, he just wanted to know Christine's whereabouts.
Helen, Harley, and Barry, the three children, looked at each other, shaking their heads in unison. Helen examined Strange's expression and said: "Is she very important to you? Is she your wife?"
"She is my girlfriend." Strange retracted his hand in a daze, turned around, and said: "This is an independent dimension. There is no killer you are looking for here. Leave."
Helen looked at Strange carefully again and speculated: "I want to ask, when you were still serving as a chief surgeon at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, how old were you?"
Strange walked to a futon on the side and knelt down, closing his eyes to meditate without answering.
But Helen didn't give up. She continued: "The Stephen Strange in our universe became the Sorcerer Supreme while serving as a chief surgeon at the New York Presbyterian Hospital."
Strange's eyes suddenly opened. He stared at Helen tightly: "What did you say? I became the Sorcerer Supreme while I was still working at the Presbyterian Hospital? I was only in my early thirties at that time."
"Yes, quite young." Helen nodded: "But you were already a world-famous surgeon."
"Too far off." Strange's face became serious: "At that time, I was just famous, and I hadn't met Christine yet."
"Then I'm afraid you won't have a chance to meet her. I'm talking about Dr. Strange in our universe. After that, you became the spokesperson for the immortality factor, and then you studied under the Ancient One, established the Sanctum Sanctorum. Since then, you have never had a moment of leisure, and I have never heard of you falling in love or anything."
Strange fell silent again, as if recalling a period of time, but soon he said: "That's fine. The two of us won't have any intersection, so Christine won't die. She can continue to walk on the path of medicine. She is the best surgeon in the world."
"What about you?" Helen took two steps forward, put the box on the ground, and looked at Strange's pale face: "What the hell is going on? Dr. Strange, you look terrible, like you're about to die."
"But I didn't die." Strange's expression was as stiff as a zombie. He shook his head gently, his eyes unfocused: "The one who died wasn't me, it was Christine."
With a "whoosh," the three children gathered together. Harley rolled her eyes and glanced at Strange: "Typical post-traumatic stress disorder, catatonic state. This shows that he has experienced repeated stimulation before and is in a continuous, slow, and long-term onset period."
"Is there any medicine?"
"No way, he won't eat it even if you give it to him." Harley hugged her arms: "I heard that the Sorcerer Supreme can backtrack time. If his girlfriend really died, he must have tried to backtrack time repeatedly to save the tragedy."
"But he looks like this now, he must have failed to save her. But just like Professor Schiller said, these people are used to underestimating the power of psychological trauma. Repeatedly witnessing the scene of the person he loves dying after backtracking time has caused great mental stimulation. Now it looks like there is no cure."
"No cure, but we have to save him." Helen turned her head and glanced at Strange: "Didn't you hear my dad say before that this universe collapsed later? I suspect it has something to do with him."
"Although I am not a superhero, we still have to find clues to the murderer in this universe. If he destroys the universe, won't the clues be gone too?"
Harley pursed her lips and thought for a while: "The best way is to save his girlfriend, but he didn't succeed, so I guess we are not enough. As for persuasion... we came too late. Now the psychological trauma has formed."
Helen rolled her eyes and said: "This situation is a bit like Spider-Man in the zombie universe. They are all stimulated by repeated reincarnation, leaving indelible psychological trauma."
"Then I think we can also imitate Dr. Schiller's method, first try to perform brainwave therapy to make him improve from the long-term onset state, and then find an opportunity to create a grand scene for him to turn the tide."
The three nodded at the same time, and Barry said: "We'd better figure out why he wants to summon the evil god first? This is not a joke. Maybe the destruction of the universe starts from here."
The three dispersed with a "swish." Harley, who had the strongest observation ability, pretended to be curious about the surrounding environment and began to observe the room. Barry turned to look at the magic array drawn on the ground, and Helen leaned toward Strange, intending to ask for information from the side.
Helen learned from Strange and knelt on the floor next to the futon. Strange glanced and saw Helen's extremely standard kneeling posture.
He retracted his gaze, looked straight ahead, and asked: "Have you studied at Kamar-Taj?"
Helen nodded forcefully and stared at him: "Yes, I am a good student."
"Are you the next Sorcerer Supreme?"
"No, there can't be thousands of students who are the next Sorcerer Supreme, right? Because my mother is a professor there, I went."
"Who is your mother?"
"Loki, sometimes also Dad."
Strange was silent for a long time, as if digesting this news, but Helen threw another bomb.
"Yes, my dad is Iron Man."
Strange finally couldn't help it. He turned to look at Helen and asked: "How did he do it?"
"Don't ask, I can't explain it clearly."
The two fell silent again. Strange closed his eyes to meditate, and Helen also pretended to close her eyes. After a while, she turned her head and stared at Strange with glowing eyes.
That shining look was too strong, like substance. Strange had to open his eyes and turn to look at Helen, wanting her not to stare at him.
But Helen opened her mouth the moment he opened his eyes and asked: "Are you summoning the evil god because you want to eat them?"
Strange's fists clenched, but Helen said to herself while picking her fingers: "Actually, I found it the moment I landed. You aimed at the magic array with some kind of absorption magic. For a moment, you wanted to do it, but you gave up."
Strange closed his eyes again, but Helen still tilted her head and stared at him, saying: "Actually, you are not afraid that we are illusions created by the evil god? Why don't you convince yourself and then do it?"
Strange's fists clenched tighter and tighter, but he opened his eyes and said in a low voice: "What do you want to say?"
"You are not that bad, and you can't deceive yourself. You actually know what is right and what is wrong, but you can't stop at all."
Strange's voice trembled: "I must save her. The Ancient One told me that she must be there to have the later Sorcerer Supreme. She died because of me."
"So you want to summon the evil god, absorb their power, and then resurrect her?" Helen shook her head, appearing very disapproving.
Strange's eyes suddenly turned cold. He stood up, his hands lit up with magic light, and looked at the three children: "Now, leave here, I don't have time to play with you."
"Do you know this will lead to the collapse of the universe?" Helen stared into his eyes without fear: "By then, not only will Christine not be able to live, but you and everyone else in this world will die
"Do you know this will cause the universe to collapse?" Helen stared into his eyes without fear. "At that point, not only will Christine not come back to life, but you and everyone else in this world will die."
"Impossible, I..."
"We come from such a future." Helen said decisively. "The universe was destroyed, which led to the clues we were looking for being gone, so we traveled through time back to the past to see what caused the destruction of the universe, and then we found you."
"You're lying to me." The light in Strange's hands turned into two golden whips, which whistled toward Helen with a sound of breaking air.
Helen didn't even move; the whips stopped ten centimeters from her hair.
"I told you, you know what is right and what is wrong. You know that what you are doing is evil, which is why you are in pain and have made yourself look so wretched."
Strange gritted his teeth and maintained the whips. The next second, he reached out with one hand, and a whip coiled around Helen, lifting her into mid-air.
The expected fear and struggle did not come. Helen exerted a slight force with her arm and struggled gently; with a series of "click-click-click" sounds, the whip of magical light shattered upon impact.
Helen landed on the ground, while Strange looked at his hands in shock. He wasn't shocked that Helen had broken free from the restraint, but that the power he used to construct the whips had vanished.
Helen opened her mouth, and the magical whip in Strange's other hand also turned into magical energy and was sucked into her mouth.
Helen flashed a brilliant smile at Strange and said, "You're still far behind when it comes to eating demons."
"I'm not here to stop you, but to tell you the correct way to enjoy a feast of evil gods."
