Chapter 1831
This line of thought encountered too many problems before it could be explored in depth. First, no one knew what the Great Old Ones used to distinguish summoners. If they didn't rely on brainwaves, but on life force or something else, then building a machine would definitely be useless.
Second, it is very difficult to simulate human brainwaves. Calling it simulating brainwaves is more like directly creating a person, or creating an artificial brain out of thin air. Even from the perspective of the technological level of the universe where Helen is, this research is measured in years.
In the final analysis, it is still because the research on the Great Old Ones is not enough. Several people discussed for a long time and proposed various ideas, but in the end, they all lost to the inability to determine how the Great Old Ones respond to summons.
In that case, several people decided to get a sample to study. Helen proposed that they should summon a Great Old One over, and then let her take a bite.
Doomsday's natural evolutionary ability allows her to analyze their abilities after eating a part of the enemy, and learn them to a certain extent. As long as Helen is allowed to take a bite of a Great Old One, she will be able to figure out what the Great Old Ones are all about.
This is the most feasible method so far, and the few people present basically belong to the type who are "bold enough to die." After discussing the details, they really intended to put it into practice.
However, the few people present were indeed "bold and skillful." Although Harley and Barry could not use the energy of this universe for the time being, they were both good students of the magic academy, and their magic theory knowledge was very solid, so they were responsible for the clerical work such as summoning array preparation and rune drawing.
Helen and Strange, who had just absorbed a lot of energy, were responsible for the fighting part. Because logically speaking, the summoned Great Old One would not obediently let you take a bite. Even if you sneak attack while he hasn't completely crossed the portal, you have to be prepared for a counterattack.
This kept them busy for the whole night, until a light source reappeared in the secret realm, and an extremely complex array appeared in the library hall.
The reason why this array was complex was that it did not summon a designated Great Old One, but only limited the scope, so the safety measures to be taken were more complex.
Helen stood at the edge of the array, while Strange knelt on the ground, one hand pressed on a corner of the array, the energy in his hand conducting onto the array, activating every rune like a torrent, until the entire array was lit up.
The cold light shone on everyone's faces, the breeze lifted the hair on their foreheads, and the array was reflected in Strange's eyes. Instantly, his pupils brightened, and his hair fluttered.
The portal opened, and on the opposite side was a starry sky. When the sound of drums and flutes rang out, Harley instinctively felt a bit familiar.
Tentacles carrying rich dark power surged out from the portal. Strange stepped back half a step, lowered his center of gravity, and set his stance.
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"
A long whip with golden light shot out, instantly entangling the two thickest tentacles. Strange had his hands one in front and one behind, his feet stepped heavily on the ground, and he pulled backward with force. The tentacles were waved and pulled into the hall.
Helen rushed out from the side and slammed into the thickest tentacle. Instantly, the phantom of a monster appeared, its bloody mouth opened, and it bit off half of the tentacle in one bite.
The tentacle felt pain and swung fiercely to the side. Helen was thrown away, adjusted her center of gravity in the air, rolled on the ground to dissipate the force, and stabilized her figure with one hand supporting the ground.
Strange, who was using the magic whip to restrict the movement of the tentacles, shouted at Helen, "This one doesn't seem very strong. Should we keep it all?"
"Wait a moment, let me taste how it is!" Helen wiped her mouth.
The next second, she was shocked and stayed where she was.
"How is it?!" Strange shouted while dragging with effort.
"Could this be..."
Before Helen finished speaking, Harley screamed and shouted at Strange, "Stop! Don't pull anymore!! You will..."
Before the words fell, more than ten times as many thick black tentacles surged out, completely submerging Strange. The next second, Strange screamed and was dragged into the portal by the tentacles, and with a "swish," the portal closed.
Helen, Harley, and Barry looked at each other, with no panicked expressions, only complex and strange looks.
Suddenly, with a "crack," the portal cracked open a small slit again. Strange was like being spat out by a giant beast, "poof," he was sprayed out from the crack, rolled a few times, and lay face down on the ground.
A black shadow walked out along the crack, looked around, and then his eyes fell on Helen.
Helen wiped her mouth, showed an awkward smile, looked at the figure that walked out of the crack, waved at him, and said, "Long time no see, Bruce."
The one who walked out from the portal crack was none other than little Bruce, and with the appearance of his figure, overwhelming dark tentacles shrouded half of the hall, and the shadows looked particularly terrifying in the flickering candlelight.
But soon, the tentacles disappeared without a trace. Strange, who climbed up, only saw a cute little boy with black hair and blue eyes.
Helen turned her head, looked up at Strange, and said, "Look, I told you evil gods would pretend to be children to trick people!"
"Helen Stark!" Little Bruce narrowed his eyes and stared at Helen.
Helen heard the anger and dissatisfaction in his tone. She sighed, dropped her hands, and said, "Didn't I just take a bite of you? You have so many tentacles, what's wrong with giving me one to eat? Don't stare at me, I've already eaten it, it's all digested by now, I can't spit it out."
Little Bruce stared at her with threatening eyes for a while before turning his head to start examining the surrounding environment.
Harley leaned over and poked the tentacles behind him with her hand. Little Bruce turned to look at her and found that she and Barry were also there, so he raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"Why are you here?" the two asked in unison.
Harley spread her hands and said, "We were brought here by Professor Schiller. We played too wildly before, and our summer homework wasn't finished. The teacher called him, and he could only bring us here to watch us finish our homework."
Little Bruce nodded, not intending to speak. Harley glared at him with some dissatisfaction and said, "Then you have to tell us how you came here, right?"
"Nyarlathotep." Little Bruce answered concisely.
"Did you really become an apostle of an Outer God?" Helen looked little Bruce up and down, instinctively feeling that something was wrong. She smacked her lips and said, "This is good, you must have the intelligence we want here. Shall we talk?"
Little Bruce glanced at the Necronomicon placed on the table next to him and asked, "Who are you targeting?"
"Ubbo-Sathla."
Earth, Kamar-Taj, in the meditation room of the Sorcerer Supreme, Strange, who was meditating with his eyes closed, suddenly opened his eyes. He opened his mouth, and silent thoughts echoed over the Earth.
"Loki, why come to Earth?"
"I have something to find you for, Your Majesty Sorcerer Supreme." Loki replied.
"Come to Kamar-Taj to talk in detail."
With a "swish," Loki teleported to the main hall of Kamar-Taj. Sorcerer Supreme Strange followed closely behind. He looked at Loki and said, "I have not heard of any major events in Asgard recently. Did you bring news from Odin?"
Loki shook his head, looked at Strange, and said, "Find a safe place, I have very important things to say."
Strange frowned. He confirmed Loki's aura again before turning to lead him into the main hall.
Arriving at the reception room, Strange served Loki a cup of tea. At this time, the Sorcerer Supreme had not had much contact with Asgard, and he had only seen a few Asgardian warriors who came to pass messages for Odin while following his teacher, the Ancient One.
"I am not the Loki of your universe." Loki said straight to the point, "I come from another parallel universe, and I have seen the disaster of the destruction of the universe on the future timeline of your universe."
Strange was about to speak, but Loki stopped him and said, "You can treat this as alarmist, or suspect that I have some conspiracy, but what happens to your universe has nothing to do with me. We came here to find the traces of the multiverse murderer."
Strange frowned deeply. Loki took out the Casket of Ancient Winters. The special power that the murderer had left behind there now presented a faint purple light.
Loki placed the Casket of Ancient Winters on the table and pushed it toward Strange. He said, "If I'm not mistaken, this kind of power will also be the culprit for your universe heading toward collapse. Have you seen it anywhere?"
Strange cautiously did not touch the Casket of Ancient Winters. He just stared at that energy with his eyes. After thinking for a while, he shook his head and said, "No matter what you are looking for, there has been no abnormality on Earth recently. You had better stay away from here. Earth does not welcome any gods."
Loki took back the Casket of Ancient Winters. A flash of light passed through his eyes. He looked at Strange and said, "Your timeline has been cut, right? Doesn't this belong to an abnormality here?"
Loki disappeared, but Strange's hands, which were folded on his legs, clenched tighter. The cutting of the timeline could not completely split Strange into two people, so he could vaguely feel the movements of the other self.
He felt that the other side's power was becoming more and more powerful, which was extremely dangerous. In fact, the first time Loki said that this universe would be destroyed, Strange believed it, because in his view, if the other self continued like this, he would sooner or later destroy all the rules of the universe and lead the universe to its end.
Strange took a deep breath, made a decision silently in his heart, and then stood up. He knew where the other self was.
When he was divided into two existences by the Ancient One because of different choices, Strange saw the other blackened self walking toward a secret realm, and he knew that secret realm guide, who was likely the manager of an independent dimension, called Oben.
Strange teleported to a small village near Florence, Italy. This was one of the entrances to that secret realm. Strange reached out his hand and drew a complex pattern emitting golden light in the air. It was an eagle logo, looking very much like the pattern on the Roman eagle flag.
Soon the light dissipated, and a man wearing a bamboo hat appeared in front of Strange. He tapped the ground lightly with a long staff, bowed to Strange, and said, "Good afternoon, Sorcerer Supreme. I wonder what you are here for?"
"You used your secret realm to guide the other me. Now, take me to see him. I must stop his evil actions."
Oben lowered his head. Strange could not see his expression. Oben said nothing, just bowed again, turned, and walked toward the entrance he came from, taking Strange into the secret realm.
Inside the secret realm, it was bizarre, with only one path leading to a dark small island. Strange followed behind Oben, asking while walking, "What is the other me doing?"
"Some very dangerous things, Sorcerer Supreme."
Strange stopped, because he felt that Oben's tone was a bit wrong.
The next second, Oben turned his head, grinned to reveal a cold smile, and strange purple light emerged from his eyes.
