Chapter 1849
"I hope this is a secret interrogation, Nick. You know this group of cunning terrorists always thinks they have the capital for negotiation, so I will talk to them." Pierce walked quickly through the corridor of the underground detention room and turned to Nick behind him.
Nick nodded and didn't follow Pierce at the next intersection, but walked in another direction alone.
Soon Pierce arrived in front of an interrogation room. He nodded to the agent guarding the door. When he pushed the door open, he saw two interrogators recording something with a serious expression.
Pierce stood behind them and glanced, finding no information of value. He looked up at the back of the railing again. Shiler was sitting inside with a normal expression, looking not at all like a person who had been interrogated for seven days.
The interrogation method adopted by S. H. I. E. L. D. was no different from modern interrogation, mainly relying on fatigue interrogation. This move had a very significant effect on 99% of cruel criminals, because as long as they were human, they would be tired.
Some people always think that ancient interrogation was more brilliant than modern interrogation. As long as physical pain is in place, there is nothing that cannot be asked. But in fact, humans are very fragile. The upper limit of interrogation is too low. Basically, if the other party still doesn't loosen their mouth after one time, there is no way. But modern interrogation methods can basically ask any secret.
Some people might have relatively high resistance in the flesh, but after fatigue is superimposed, the spirit will always have a time to relax. The secrets that pain and intimidation cannot make them say will be revealed naturally in the gaps of their words. There will be professional people who analyze and summarize the information in every sentence they say.
And this doesn't hurt physical health. After resting for a period of time, they can come again from the beginning. The longer the detention time, the more information fragments are obtained, and one day they can piece together a complete puzzle. Being captured under such circumstances basically means exposure.
But now the problem isn't whether Shiler is exposed or not. Everyone knows he is a Hydra. They want to get more information about Hydra from his mouth, but from the current point of view, Shiler is the kind of interviewee who is most difficult to deal with.
He wants to lead the topic and regain the initiative at all times. Although this will aggravate his energy consumption, it will also make the interrogator feel tired faster, and they have to speed up the shift change.
But the more frequent the shift change, the lower the continuity of the interrogation. After repeating many times, the density of information obtained is as low as a crisis public relations apology video.
Pierce stood in the interrogation room and watched for a while before knowing that Shiler was an extremely experienced opponent. The vast majority of agents in the S. H. I. E. L. D. prison couldn't do anything about him. If it must be said who could pry information from his mouth, Pierce believed it would be Nick Fury, but before that, he had to do a good job of insurance.
Soon Nick walked in, led a team of agents to press Shiler out of the interrogation room, and brought him to the secret interrogation room.
There were no surveillance cameras in this room. Except for the interrogator and the interviewee, there wouldn't be anything else, so this place could often take some extraordinary means, and could also be used as a place to reach a deal with some state's witnesses.
Shiler stood behind the railing of this small room, without handcuffs, and without a chair, but in fact, the space left for him behind the railing wasn't much. He could only stand in place or take half a step forward, and the left and right space wasn't enough for him to lift his arms flat.
Pierce's side was much more spacious. He could even pace in the room, which was equivalent to Shiler being locked in a cage, while Pierce watched him from the side.
After the door was completely locked and the sound insulation device was activated, Pierce was just about to strike first, when he heard Shiler say: "Hail Hydra, Director Pierce. Don't doubt it, this is the trap Baron Strucker set for you. The clues Nick Fury found were deliberately left by the Baron, and the purpose was to make him suspect you."
Pierce was instantly shocked and suspicious. He stood behind the railing and stared straight at Shiler's face, wanting to find a trace of lying on his face, but Shiler was as calm as ever, and couldn't see half a trace of emotion.
"The Baron said you betrayed him and failed the trust of him and his subordinates. I don't know what story you have between you. I just reached a deal with him."
There was a bad premonition in Pierce's heart. He stared at Shiler and asked: "What deal?"
"I will testify against you as a state's witness, and before you go to work at the United Nations, take Nick Fury down."
Pierce's face sank to the bottom.
Shiler spread his hands lightly and said in a relaxed tone: "Look at the current situation. Either I complete the deal with him and let you go to jail, or you reach a deal with me and let him go to jail."
"Or I let you die here." Pierce said in an icy tone: "Then no one will go to jail."
"You know this won't work. Nick is watching you." Shiler grabbed the railing with both hands, put his face close to the railing, and revealed a slightly childish and evil smile. He said: "Either I give myself a knife now, and then you gamble on the possibility that Nick will think you want to kill to silence him after seeing this scene."
"You..."
"Pierce, you are just a waste who rode the east wind of the era, a complete coward American. In order to keep your glory and wealth, you don't care about anything. This is the price you should pay!"
Pierce's eyes opened wider. He looked at Shiler and said: "Shiler... Shiler... are you a German? You, are you Red Skull's subordinate?!"
Shiler tilted his head slightly, noncommittal, while Pierce gritted his teeth and cursed: "Damn NAZI German!"
He took a deep breath, looked at Shiler with gloomy eyes, and said: "You know we don't talk about isms here. Make an offer."
Shiler let go, lowered his eyelids, and smiled. He tilted his head and said: "You two are like buyers bidding in an auction house. Whoever bids higher, I stand on whose side. I can say this whole action was instigated by the Baron, or it could be you. You will inevitably have one side lose freedom or even life. Then what price do you intend to open for your freedom and life?"
"Don't look too highly of yourself. They can't take my life."
"But I can." Shiler looked at Pierce and said: "You are clear that losing freedom is equal to losing life. Once you are no longer the director of S. H. I. E. L. D., killing you becomes easy. You owe many people many debts, and I am willing to collect them for them, and collect my own interest by the way."
Pierce's lips turned white. He knew the key point was Nick. If it were earlier years, S. H. I. E. L. D. would all be his people, and he would have countless ways to make an interviewee die silently.
But he relaxed his control over S. H. I. E. L. D. after preparing for promotion, and Nick had now built his own team, and Pierce was clear about the weight of a legendary spy.
Pierce was gambling. As long as he could be promoted with a perfect image, his alliance relationship with Nick would become unbreakable, because Nick had the same strong confidence in himself. He was sure he didn't see Pierce's flaws, so he was credible. This was the favorable backing for Pierce to continue climbing up.
But similarly, once he took a wrong step and made a mistake, Nick would not hesitate to shatter the trust he had in him in the past, and instead grab his handle faster than anyone else, letting him suffer imprisonment.
Before this matter happened, the whole plan had reached the end. Pierce, in order to show his friendliness and trust, further delegated power to Nick in exchange for further help in the future, but it happened that the last step went wrong.
Pierce couldn't take risks anymore. Once Shiler's testimony left a shadow of doubt in Nick's heart, he wouldn't have a peaceful life in the future.
But did he have to allow this cunning NAZI to open his mouth wide at him? Pierce wasn't reconciled.
Ending this secret talk, Pierce had been thinking about how to solve the current predicament.
If he drags it on, Shiler will sooner or later point to him. Even if there is no evidence, if Nick follows this line of thinking, it is not impossible to find something. But if he finds a way to kill Shiler, Nick will also suspect.
Suddenly, Pierce thought of a way. He still had a card he hadn't used, and that was Tony Stark.
It would be very difficult for Pierce to send manpower to Eastern Europe to wipe out Hydra now. On one hand, S. H. I. E. L. D. is all spies and not good at large-scale combat. On the other hand, Nick's people go first, and it's not easy to do small actions if he is stared at.
But as long as he drives Stark to Eastern Europe to kill the Baron, not only can Nick not stop Stark's revenge, but Shiler also loses the other side's trading object. Then he can only trade with himself, which can prevent him from swaying left and right, so as to open a high price.
But it's not so easy to let Stark go to Eastern Europe. Pierce feels that the current hatred is not enough to let Stark take risks again. To let him go to Eastern Europe to kill the Eastern European Hydra, he must add another bargaining chip.
In a luxury apartment in Manhattan, Erik hung up the phone with a cold face. He just learned from a mercenary broker that someone was investigating his past resume.
"Obadiah..." Erik whispered a name. He could only think of this possibility. Before he went to Obadiah to take over the position of security supervisor, the other party showed great suspicion.
Erik was very clear that he could fool Stark because the other party was a scientist and hadn't seen much of the world. But Obadiah was the kind of old fox who had been vertical and horizontal in the shopping mall for many years just by looking at his face. This kind of person simply couldn't be fooled. He was absolutely his biggest threat.
Obadiah started investigating him. Then once he told Tony Stark the investigation results, all the trust and goodwill he gained there would be in vain.
Absolutely not. Erik thought that the Stark Group was his best springboard, and he must not let this opportunity slip away in his hands.
For the current plan, he must find a way to bring down Obadiah. Only by poking out the fact that he planned the kidnapping of Tony Stark would no one believe every word he said.
Time was urgent. Erik didn't make much preparation. He took his thermal dagger and a pulley bow and drove to the only way Obadiah left the Stark Building.
If you ask why he went to find Obadiah instead of going directly to the TV station, it was mainly because he didn't have substantial evidence. Anyway, Obadiah had already investigated him. He might as well tear his face and go to bluff him, and move his hands directly at the critical moment, disguising it as an accident.
The car stopped at the exit of the underground parking lot of the Stark Building. Erik rolled down the window and waited for a while before seeing a familiar car drive out of the underground parking lot. The person sitting in the car was Obadiah.
Erik immediately closed the window, turned the steering wheel, stepped on the gas, and followed Obadiah's car. Not long after, he saw Obadiah's car drive into a wealthy residential area.
Erik parked the car outside and sneaked into the residential area alone. The security guards in the wealthy area couldn't stop him at all. When he chased to the door of the residence, the driver was backing the car into the garage.
Erik saw Obadiah's figure in the bedroom upstairs. He clenched the miniature thermal dagger in his hand, flipped over the courtyard wall, and entered the house silently.
