Chapter 19: Injured Daredevil
New York, Hell's Kitchen.
On the bed in Schiller's psychological clinic, Daredevil Ma Te let out a scream. Schiller took away the alcohol cotton ball held by tweezers and said: "Although no one will come to this street, if you keep tensing your muscles like this, I definitely won't be able to take the bullet out."
He threw the cotton ball into the trash can, wiped the tweezers with an alcohol cotton pad, pulled the wound on Daredevil's shoulder open a bit, and said: "I have to use a knife to cut the wound open a bit."
Ma Te said: "You have to give me some anesthesia, otherwise I will definitely go into shock."
"A superhero afraid of pain, I really don't know whether to mock you or admire you," Schiller said.
"There aren't many people who can hurt me. Kingpin found a powerful person this time," Ma Te said.
Schiller looked at Ma Te's pale complexion. His lips were almost bloodless. Everyone's tolerance for pain was different, and Daredevil Ma Te was clearly in the more sensitive category.
Just as Schiller said, doing superhero work like this, I don't know if it's worth mocking or worth admiring.
Schiller thought, superheroes will also get hurt and bleed. No matter how powerful the medicine is, it cannot completely avoid pain. Perhaps Batman also abandoned the superficial idea of revenge in the pain that was unbearable time and time again, and found a greater goal for himself.
Only a great ideal like "justice" could support these superheroes to lick their wounds alone in the night.
Schiller put down the tweezers and said: "You're lucky, Ma Te. I have some good medicine here."
He took out a small white bottle and handed it to Ma Te. Ma Te touched the packaging and smelled the scent, then said: "Damn it, why do you have this kind of painkiller too? You addict!"
Schiller said: "Don't be ignorant. This is different from the junk on the market. The concentration is the highest you can find. If you don't eat it, give it back to me. This thing is very expensive."
What Schiller took out was the painkiller he stole when he went to Jonathan's to steal fear toxin. Jonathan needed painkillers when doing experiments on test subjects. These were all refined by himself, much better than what could be bought.
Ma Te still took one and said: "God bless me to get better soon, and then turn around and punch you."
"Don't take returning evil for good so for granted. In a ghost place like Hell's Kitchen, carrying a few small pills is very normal. This doesn't count as a crime."
Ma Te felt the pain gradually fading. He had to admit that what Schiller said made sense. In Hell's Kitchen, taking drugs was simply the most harmless hobby.
And Schiller thought, if it were in Gotham, if a person only had a hobby of taking drugs, then he would be as kind as an angel.
Schiller looked at Ma Te's complexion gradually recovering, so while performing a simple surgery on him, he asked: "How did you capsize in the gutter?"
Ma Te pursed his lips and said: "The person Kingpin found is not simple. I had precautions in advance, but that group of guys who call themselves 'ninjas' can lower their heartbeats. I couldn't hear them... Oh! Damn it..."
Schiller held the bullet he had just taken out with tweezers. He turned the bullet left and right and said: "The ninjas you mentioned are also full and have nothing to do. They even carved cherry blossom patterns on the bullets."
Ma Te looked exhausted. Schiller shouted: "Pikachu! Bring me the bandage in the cabinet!"
Ma Te heard a small creature jump onto the table. It said with a look of disdain: "I told you not to treat him in the bedroom. Do you think the smell of blood smells good? Hey, loser, your bandage..."
Schiller caught the bandage Pikachu threw over and wrapped it for Ma Te. Ma Te said: "You'd better hurry up. I have to leave here later."
"And then die on the street outside the door?" Schiller asked.
"They are targeting me. Those ninjas have unique tracking skills. If they come here, neither of us will be able to run," Ma Te said.
After all, he was still a good person and didn't want to implicate Schiller. Although Schiller didn't look like a good person in his eyes, he had saved him after all. Ma Te talked tough, but he didn't actually want to return evil for good.
Schiller said while cleaning the blood-stained tools: "They don't need any special tracking skills. You ran all the way from the next street with a heavy smell of blood. If they haven't discovered it yet..."
Ma Te suddenly heard a violent sound of wind. He shouted: "It's a dart!! Dodge it!!"
He was anxious inside, because he could judge from Schiller's footsteps that he was just an untrained ordinary person. Faced with that group of ninja killers, there was almost no possibility of survival.
However, soon, he heard a "bang" sound. The hidden weapon seemed to hit something. Schiller held an umbrella. He thought, an umbrella was really a defensive weapon, especially for small things like darts, which could greatly slow down their impact.
There was only one person on the opposite side, because Schiller's telepathy was effective within a range. Except for Ma Te, he could only feel one person's mood.
"This lady, if you hesitated for three minutes before doing it, why don't we sit down and have a cup of coffee together," Schiller said.
Before the other party could answer, Schiller continued to say to the air: "You are really merciful to your old lover. I have never seen anyone who can hit a bullet exactly into the gap of the shoulder blade that is least likely to be fatal. Since you're here, why don't you come out and see?"
A cold snort came from the air on the opposite side. Then, the killer on the opposite side left.
Ma Te looked confused and said: "What? What old lover?"
Schiller shook his head and said: "Didn't you notice? The killer you encountered, since she has the ability to shoot you without you discovering it, why didn't she shoot at your heart or head?"
"Could it be that this bullet wasn't aimed at the heart?"
"It missed by a hundred thousand miles."
Ma Te's brain short-circuited. Clearly, he hadn't reacted yet. The killer on the opposite side was actually his former classmate and ex-girlfriend Elektra.
Schiller, who knew the plot, knew very well that Elektra was probably torn to death right now. She still had feelings for Ma Te, but she hesitated whether to complete the mission. She wanted to appear, but didn't want to see her ex-boyfriend. So Schiller just pointed out her identity, and she ran away in a flash, clearly not wanting Ma Te to know who she was yet.
This is really, don't guess a woman's mind.
Soon, Daredevil Ma Te fell into a coma in pain and anxiety. Schiller put down the rolling shutter on the clinic's main door and locked it, and locked all the windows. He stood by the bed, looking at the night sky of New York City.
A bright meteor streaked across the sky, and countless couples made wishes to the sky, but that was actually Stark's mecha.
The people in Hell's Kitchen didn't have the leisure to make wishes to the meteor. Schiller took out his phone and called Stark. As soon as the call was connected, Schiller said: "Does Miss Pepper know that you would rather fly around in the sky in a mecha than go back to accompany her?"
Then, under the gaze of countless couples, the meteor crashed down.
After a while, on the roof of Schiller's psychological clinic, Stark was wearing the Mark 5 prototype that was smoking a bit and complained to Schiller: "I really should put you on my blacklist..."
Schiller lit a cigarette for him and said: "A middle-aged man who doesn't sleep in the middle of the night and goes out to race, and drives such a resentful curve, it's strange if he isn't having trouble with his wife."
Stark also walked to the eaves and sat down, took the cigarette Schiller handed over, and said: "... She puts a lot of pressure on me. Seriously, I haven't thought it through..."
"Haven't thought what through? Whether to marry Pepper?"
Stark choked and coughed twice, saying: "Marry? Did you skip some important steps?"
"Oh, right, in the eyes of a stud like you, there is indeed an important step."
"Don't say that. Pepper is different from those women."
"It's just that I don't know if you are different from other men in her eyes," Schiller said.
Before Stark could answer, Schiller continued: "But I think it should be about the same. You haven't spent as much time with her as the security guard."
"... Then I'll fire that security guard when I go back," Stark said angrily.
Clearly, he was avoiding some questions.
After a while, Stark touched his cheek and said with some conflict: "... Do you really have mind-reading?"
"If I say I have it, do you believe it? If you don't believe it yourself, don't keep asking," Schiller said.
"I actually want to find a way to make me believe there is mind-reading in this world, and then you come and tell me what Pepper is thinking," Stark said.
Iron Man is not a traditional "justice is invincible" type of hero. He has a sensitive and emotional heart, and an emotional brain that doesn't match his tech genius persona, so he always tangles his thoughts into a mess.
Facing Pepper, Stark is always unable to move forward courageously. He doesn't realize at all that this attitude actually explains a lot of things.
Schiller changed the subject and said: "How is that red-blue tight-suit kid in New York City lately? I've heard you complain about him."
"Oh, yes, a kid in the ugliest tight suit, jumping around in the middle of the city, swinging back and forth like a flea," Stark said. He said: "Jarvis said that kid shouldn't be an adult. I plan to catch him and throw him back home."
Schiller said: "I have some clues here. Do you want to hear them?"
"I've seen him a few times on the edge of Hell's Kitchen. He didn't dare to come in. I saw that there seemed to be a high school logo on his blue pants. It's from the Queens side..."
"You call this a clue?" Stark sneered. Schiller continued: "It can be seen that he has no money to buy himself a good outfit, so his family situation shouldn't be very good, so it definitely isn't one of those expensive private schools. He is mostly a student at Midtown High or Forest High..."
"Forest High is a boarding school. If a student came out like this, he would probably have his legs broken. And Midtown High is much more casual. Looking at his physique, I guess he is a freshman or sophomore."
"A little brat," Stark concluded. He said: "I guess he made a toy by himself, and he could use it to show off, so he couldn't wait to come out and wander around."
"Then, do you plan to let him learn about the malice of adults?" Schiller asked.
"Of course, more importantly, New York City is not his playground," Stark said.
Although he had just recovered, he was an adult who had experienced big things after all. He knew that if little Spider-Man wandered around like this, something would happen sooner or later. In fact, some media had already noticed him. ===== CHAPTER 20 =====
