Chapter 1951

~10 min read 1,973 words

Lord Superman is a bit dazed now.

Because Bruce is angry.

Of course, it's not to say that Batman doesn't get angry; it's just that Batman's method of conveying emotions is very peculiar. Under normal circumstances, no one can feel whether he is angry or happy because he always keeps a straight face.

But Bruce's emotional expression was very obvious. He threw away what was in his hand and turned to walk back to the city, not saying a word to Lord Superman who was chasing behind him.

It wasn't until he saw Wonder Woman that he said loudly, "I've had enough! Why couldn't you just keep him there instead of running to me and staring at me the whole time? He scared away all my fish!"

"I just wanted to see if you were in danger..."

"You know you're not concerned about me at all," Bruce turned back and stared angrily at Lord Superman's face, saying, "Were you disappointed not to see a criminal fish in the lake? Or were you actually wanting to see a criminal person, like me?"

"I didn't..."

"You know best whether you did or not! From the moment we met in the screening room, you already exposed your true thoughts. You think I'm an ignorant bastard, right?"

Bruce walked up to Lord Superman, stared straight into his eyes that had begun to flash red, and said, "I know you killed all the criminals on Earth, Clark, so you'd better kill me quickly, otherwise I will definitely go kill something for you to see, otherwise how can I show how much foresight you have?!"

"And I'm only worried that even if I'm thrown into prison, someone will still fly to my window, wagging their tail, to ask me which style of pacifier I should choose today!"

Lord Superman was scolded into a daze again.

Wonder Woman walked up, wanting to mediate, but Bruce suddenly turned back and looked at her, saying, "Don't put on that peacemaker attitude. You've been wavering for a long time, haven't you? Do you think you don't need to be responsible for anyone's bad relationships?"

"Do you think your slick way of dealing with things, offending neither side, is a treasure worth passing down, and it's best to become as old as you?"

"If you are even stupid enough not to find the basin of water that can be used when a fire starts, then shut up. No one wants to know every detail of your earth-shattering innovation of using wood to extinguish a fire!"

With a "bang," Bruce slammed the door and went out.

Wonder Woman and Lord Superman looked at each other in dismay.

Lord Superman was so angry at Bruce that his chest was heaving up and down, and he couldn't even control the cold air coming out between his mouth and nose. Wonder Woman was also quite angry; she hadn't been this angry in many years.

And they both realized a problem, a very serious problem they were facing now.

They always said Batman's way of expressing himself was too peculiar for anyone to understand, and always said the main reason they couldn't even have a fight in their relationship lay in Batman's overly introverted emotions.

So the question is, if Batman's emotions weren't introverted, and they could argue, could they really win an argument against him?

Batman is a peerless genius in every aspect. His thinking speed, logical rigor, and linguistic organization are all top-tier. If he used this talent for arguing, could anyone really win an argument against him?

And if he used his talent for scolding people, could anyone really out-scold him?

It seems not.

Batman scolding people sounds like a very incredible thing, but if you think about it carefully, this is actually quite terrifying.

If the smartest person in the world, who possesses the most knowledge and technology, has the most rigorous thinking, and is best at insight into the human heart, starts scolding people indiscriminately, how many people would not have their defenses broken?

In any case, Lord Superman and Wonder Woman had their defenses broken a bit.

But this can't be blamed on them. They were already accustomed to Batman's extremely introverted emotions and hard-to-understand communication style. The most basic emotional defense that ordinary people should have had also degenerated during the long years of purely rational communication.

In short, the people they had met, the things they had participated in, and the friends they had made over so many years were basically good people, most of whom could manage to discuss things on their merits.

Even if opinions differed, after rational communication confirmed this, they would basically choose to understand each other, or at least reserve their opinions. Even if they had to point out the other's mistakes, they would present facts and reason.

But Bruce was purely emotional output. He didn't explain anything, didn't deny anything, and didn't prove anything; it was just very simple, extremely straightforward personal attacks.

Humans are emotional animals, and all can feel the emotions that their peers are radiating. Although Wonder Woman and Superman are not humans in the narrow sense, they are intelligent beings with humanity, and they are also susceptible to emotional contagion.

Being praised makes one happy, and being scolded makes one angry; these are unavoidable emotional fluctuations. And if the other person scolds you when you feel you have made no mistakes at all and that they are being unreasonable, but you didn't talk back or didn't win the argument, then you really would be staring wide-eyed at two in the morning, hammering your pillow, and sighing to the sky, "Why didn't I win that argument?"

Lord Superman and Wonder Woman are now in this state.

They had no heart to repair the car, no heart to participate in the game, and each returned to their room to sulk.

As for why they didn't go to trouble Bruce, the key also lies in: first, Bruce is too young, and they both felt embarrassed to haggle with Bruce in front of each other; second, even if they went to find Bruce alone, they couldn't out-scold him. You can't just kill him, right?

As a result, when it was almost dark, Lord Superman's door was knocked. He opened the door and saw it was actually Bruce.

Lord Superman snorted coldly. He thought Bruce had come to apologize, but Bruce knocked hard on the door frame and said, "I'm hungry. Where's the deer you hunted?"

Lord Superman took a step to the side, letting Bruce's face be illuminated by the light in the room, attempting to find a trace of lingering anger and shame on his face, but he found nothing.

Bruce came to beg for food as if nothing had happened.

Lord Superman took a deep breath and said, "Didn't you not want me to watch you?"

"But you scared away my fish earlier."

"You were the one who said you weren't fishing anymore."

"You were the one bothering me, that's why I stopped fishing!"

"So the responsibility is mine?"

"What else?"

Lord Superman began to spit cold air again.

"You want to say you're very busy, but you actually have nothing to do," Bruce leaned one hand on the door frame and said with a smile, "Because the instructions left for you by the Batman you know were only to repair the car, and besides that, you don't know what to do at all."

"Don't look at me with that look; you're not the bull behind the red cloth," Bruce dug his ear with his finger and said, "Or perhaps you are actually thinking about how to refute my words, and I can only tell you not to waste your effort."

"Of course, you are also thinking about how to make me shut up," Bruce looked into Lord Superman's eyes and said, "But the fact is that's impossible, because I haven't taken my medicine, and you can't haggle with a mental patient."

Lord Superman was scolded into a laugh by him.

"Do you know how I deal with that group of lunatics in Gotham?" Lord Superman narrowed his eyes and said, "I lobotomized them. That is the best way to deal with mental patients."

"I'm afraid my psychology professor wouldn't agree."

"But he's not here now."

"Yes, that's why I'm not taking my medicine."

"Do you think this is your amulet?"

"But you dare not do anything, because you really need a Batman. If you hurt me, you will lose two Batmans at the same time: me and the one you are familiar with."

"What on earth do you want to do!"

"Help me get something to eat; I'm very hungry."

Ten minutes later, Lord Superman threw the deer he was carrying on his shoulder next to the campfire Bruce had set up. He stood in place for a while in silence, but still used heat vision to help Bruce roast the deer.

"I thought you were just a bit rebellious; I didn't expect you to be a real lunatic," Lord Superman pursed his lips and said, "And your personality is terrible, with no shame at all."

"Your scolding skills are as bad as your hunting skills," Bruce said while pulling out a deer leg, "And I haven't even used fifty percent of my power. You wouldn't want to know how crazy I can be."

Lord Superman sat down next to the venison and said, "For example?"

"For example, the last barbecue I had was eaten with the Joker."

Lord Superman widened his eyes.

Bruce took a big bite of the roasted venison, but spat it out because there was no salt at all, and it was very unpalatable. He said with some disgust, "Barbecue is much better than this."

"So in that universe, you and the Joker are friends?"

"To be precise, he is my creditor," Bruce tore off a small piece of meat, chewed it reluctantly in his mouth, and said, "I owe him some money, and I haven't paid it back yet."

"You really should take your medicine; you've started babbling nonsense."

"I think we can go participate in a game later," Bruce looked up at the sky and said, "This will help us understand each other."

Lord Superman opened his mouth. He didn't think understanding each other with this Batman would be a good thing.

Mainly, he finally realized that Batman having a mouth isn't necessarily a good thing, because he might speak, but not necessarily speak well; he might speak human language, but not necessarily speak kind words.

And the lethality of Batman not speaking kind words is terrifying.

Lord Superman suddenly recalled that sometimes when their plans went wrong, the responsibility lay with others besides Batman, and Batman would usually just be silent, occasionally bringing out a feasible improvement plan to boost morale.

If this were replaced by this crazy bat, then no one from top to bottom in the Justice League could walk out of this door smiling, and they would cry for at least three days after going home and closing the door.

Finding Batman to understand Batman's plan seemed like a complete failure, but Lord Superman obviously couldn't just propose to terminate the plan like this. Wouldn't that make it look like he was afraid of him?

Isn't it just a somewhat crazy Batman?

Not to mention he isn't a real criminal yet; even those truly brutal criminals, he has seen many of them. Could he really be afraid of him?

Lord Superman thought this way and stood up, gently patted the deer skin crumbs off his hands, and said, "We'll go participate in the game after you finish eating, but which category do you want to participate in?"

And Bruce's answer exceeded Lord Superman's expectations.

"Unity. We'll go participate in the unity game."
