Chapter 2019: The Past is Like the Morning Star (Part 1)

~11 min read 2,055 words

Building the brand-new version of Battleworld required a certain amount of time. During this time, Owen and Lucifer, who needed to work at full capacity, set up their offices and laboratories first.

Lucifer directly dug his palace in Hell out of Hell and suspended it above the new Earth of Battleworld, becoming a sky island floating in the universe.

Satan's palace was still ancient, carrying the floating dust of the past. The deep-colored walls reflected layers of candelabras, carrying a kind of profound loneliness.

On the first day after moving, this place welcomed a guest Lucifer didn't expect, and that was Schiller.

Schiller, standing in front of the door, put away his umbrella. Lucifer stood sideways inside the gate, watching the glow in space cast a hazy halo around Schiller's figure.

"It seems you have already found Walt Disney." Lucifer's tone carried some pride. He said, "I think you have now partially understood my feelings. Facing someone who is omniscient, omnipotent, and high above is not easy."

"You are also this kind of person to me." Schiller followed Lucifer through the long corridor. The somewhat low voice echoed in the exceptionally spacious space, and the vibration of the echo was like substance.

Turning left at the end of the corridor, passing in front of a row of towering Gothic stained-glass windows, the rhythm of leather shoes tapping made the footsteps stepping on the corridor of light and shadow overlap like fingers jumping on piano keys.

Pushing open the door of the reception hall, the style changed again, carrying the richest British manor atmosphere. The carpet was the deep red of dried blood. On the right side were rows upon rows of tall bookshelves filled with various ancient books. In the pitch-black fireplace on the left, a fire burned more vigorously than in an ordinary room.

The arc of the Gothic dome spread into the distance, like petals guarding the light brought by the pointed windows. The two sat on the heavy yet soft single sofas in front of the windows. Lucifer poured a glass of wine for Schiller and smiled as he placed it in front of him, his smile seemingly apologetic.

Schiller placed his umbrella aside, his hand holding the wine glass paused, and then said, "You should know I'm not here to force the truth out of you today, right?"

"Of course, if I don't want to say it, no one can force me, not even God."

"How is God lately?"

"Did Walt tell you that all this was God's ghost?" Lucifer sat in his seat, took a sip of wine, and said, "God is not doing well lately. Gabriel has been hiding from him. It seems he has fallen into another quagmire."

"I reserve my opinion on you describing yourself as a quagmire." Schiller looked at Lucifer with somewhat sharp eyes and said, "Gabriel can only be said to be a mud pit, while you are a whole swamp."

"Yes, because we are all arrogance." Lucifer nodded gently and said, "Arrogance, arrogance, arrogance, what reason does it have not to be called the first of the seven deadly sins?"

"It seems this matter still has something to do with you." Schiller suddenly slowed his tone and said, "You'd better not tell me that you are the culprit of all this, otherwise I will let Bruce post the diary of God recording your childhood on the bulletin board of Heaven."

"Oh, come on." Lucifer raised his hands and said, "You said you weren't here to force me, you're almost holding a knife to my neck!"

And Schiller still looked at him intently and said, "This proves that you are actually not as indifferent to his love and dedication as you appear, and can easily ignore and wantonly waste it."

"No one can." Lucifer also turned to look at Schiller, his tone becoming more aggressive, and he said, "Neither can you, right?"

Schiller withdrew his gaze, put the wine glass to his lips, took a sip of the cold wine, and remained silent, saying nothing more.

Lucifer was like a punctured balloon. After that loud bang, there wasn't even a process of leaking air, and he just drifted down in silence.

"You want to hear your story, his story, but I will eventually tell you my story."

After a long while, Lucifer said, "All this stems from a mistake, a complete mistake."

"I was the first light of God's creation. After I was born, I spent a carefree time with God in the Garden of Eden."

"At that time, I was his child, he was my father, and my world only had this relationship. This was my everything."

"Until one day he told me that I had a destiny that I must complete. He finished his work, and I would also have my duties. I would become the first angel."

"I didn't even know what an angel was at that time. He told me that angels have their own duties and destinies that must be fulfilled. That was the first time he rigidly demanded that I do something."

"At that time, an emotion sprouted in my heart and gradually controlled me. Now we call it arrogance."

Lucifer sighed softly and said, "Or perhaps that is my essence. I love my father, but I don't believe in God, and the greatest arrogance is 'not believing'."

"So when he started hoping that I would treat him as God, as a supreme god, I chose not to believe. I chose to leave the Garden of Eden."

When saying this, Lucifer closed his eyes, his eyelashes trembling slightly, as if thinking of something, and then said, "On the day I left, he stood behind me and said to me, destiny is inescapable, you will eventually become what you should become."

Lucifer took a deep breath, opened his eyes, looked at Schiller, and said, "You have heard the story behind it once."

Schiller still looked at him and didn't answer, and Lucifer continued to speak.

"I came to the human world, landed in a small alley, and saw a little boy appear in front of me. I said to him, 'Child, don't be afraid'."

Until this moment, Schiller frowned slightly. He realized something, and Lucifer looked at him and nodded gently, saying.

"That's right, this is the first sentence recorded in the Bible that an angel said to humans—'Child, don't be afraid'."

"I realized everything was beyond redemption." Lucifer's hand on the armrest tightened gradually, and his knuckles began to turn white. "I realized my destiny could not be changed. I was destined to become an angel, and I would lose my father and serve the god high above for the rest of my life."

"I refuse all this, forever refuse."

Lucifer's narration began to be mixed with too many gasps, as if recalling all this was still painful for him.

And the next turning point exceeded Schiller's expectations.

"I chose to dissipate my consciousness and return to the first light of creation. From then on, there will be no Lucifer Morningstar in this world, there will be no first child of God, and there will be no first angel."

Schiller's pupils shrank. He stared straight at Lucifer, suddenly realizing just how arrogant this fallen angel, who represented arrogance and original sin, actually was.

If God indulged destiny to take away Lucifer's father, then he would take away God's son first.

So Schiller couldn't help but ask, "And then?"

Lucifer pursed his lips and said, "God regretted it. He backed down."

He turned his head again, looked up at Schiller, and said, "He took away the soul of the little boy who had a destiny entanglement with me and sent him to another world, an extremely distant world."

Schiller's hand holding the armrest tightened.

"Perhaps you have thought countless times why you have so many talents that are different from ordinary people, your power that doesn't look like human at all, the ability to predict danger, overly keen senses, and even the ability to completely reshape your own mental structure."

"That's not because you are lucky enough or unlucky enough." Lucifer leaned his body toward Schiller's side and looked into his eyes, saying, "You come from a powerful universe that possesses these powers. It makes you out of place with that universe with weak power."

Schiller's hand slowly loosened.

He had indeed thought about this question countless times. The science believed in the universe where he lived in his previous life simply couldn't explain the source of his power.

There was no one in that world who possessed special abilities like him, and these abilities themselves looked more like something that would appear in a universe with superheroes. Placed in a universe full of ordinary people, it seemed out of place.

"God is more powerful than you think. He is the incarnation of the belief of billions and billions of people." Lucifer shook his head gently and said, "All races and civilizations that believe in a single god believe in God. God is one of the code names for the only god."

"So the universe where you met me is my true birthplace." Schiller looked at Lucifer and said, "And that is a universe with a higher power level, possessing many super-powered people. I was once one of them."

Lucifer nodded slowly, then looked away and said, "But you should know that your original body lost its soul, which is equivalent to death. I didn't want to kill an innocent child because of this."

Schiller had a vague premonition. Lucifer cleared his throat somewhat awkwardly and said, "I pulled over a soul that had just died and let him be reborn in this body."

"So I wasn't wrong." Lucifer spread his hands to defend himself, "You two are both my old friends."

Schiller narrowed his eyes slowly, and the expression on his face clearly meant "your technique of covering up is really bad."

Lucifer coughed twice more, sat there struggling for a long time, and found that he really couldn't change the subject, so he complained somewhat complainingly, "I really don't know where he got such great resentment. It's not like I caused his country to disintegrate. As for rushing up and grabbing my wings and not letting go?"

Schiller also coughed in a low voice, well covering up his impulse to laugh out loud. He knew that the scene at that time was not romantic at all.

Lucifer had said before that after he came to Earth for the first time, he met a little boy, and then this little boy plucked a feather from him without any distractions.

Now it seemed that there were indeed no distractions; it was just that the resentment was so heavy that he would kill gods if gods blocked him and kill Buddhas if Buddhas blocked him.

According to the clues obtained before, it could be known that the original Schiller committed suicide after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and he shot himself after listening to the broadcast of the collapse of the Soviet Union.

This was Lucifer, Schiller thought, but if it were replaced by any other angel who wasn't so strong, he could have been torn alive.

"So I said this is a complete mistake."

Unexpectedly, Lucifer sighed again and said, "Because this is just the beginning. Although saying this might make you feel disappointed, it's not that I wanted to be friends with him. I had no other choice."

Schiller looked at Lucifer. The expression on Lucifer's face was very complicated. After being silent for a while, he said, "He is a very... I don't know how to describe it. He is a Soviet scientist, you know?"

Lucifer said in a somewhat collapsing tone, "His first reaction after discovering that angels really exist in this world was not to believe in God, but to want to figure out why angels exist in this world. He wanted to know the principle of angel existence."

"Originally I could have walked away and ignored it, but he snatched a feather from me, and it was the most conspicuous one at the tip of the wing. I had to find a way to get it back... I could only cooperate with his research, there was no other way!" ===== CHAPTER 2020 =====
