Chapter 2047: A Night of Knightly Terror (27)
"It's just because he is busy with trivial matters, he is temporarily unable to sit down and talk to me, but it doesn't matter; I said, he will be more interested in the conversation between the two of us, so he will definitely listen to the monitoring equipment attentively."
"I will solve Batman's problem first; come and help me fix the microphone, and you can leave."
Jason hesitated for a few seconds in place, then walked toward Schiller, saying as he walked: "You know attacking me makes no sense, right? You can't win."
"As a doctor, I usually don't choose to attack anyone." Schiller appeared a bit helpless, saying: "I assure you Batman hasn't approached me, and you don't have to worry about him attacking you from a distance."
Jason's pace accelerated slightly; in fact, they weren't very far apart, just a short distance of four or five steps, but the closer he got to Schiller, the more Jason felt a sense of oppression.
This is a feeling that is hard to describe in words; it seems as if he is walking toward a beast, but in a blink of an eye, it seems to be just his hallucination.
The paisley pattern of the tie was a bit too complicated, making people dizzy, and Jason had to turn his eyes away, but the stripes on the suit were no better, constantly twisting and deforming in Jason's field of vision, making him feel light-headed.
Taking another step forward, those hateful cashew patterns and stripes of varying thickness were even more eye-catching, but the distance between the two had been destined; if he didn't want to look at these things, Jason's angle of turning his head was a bit too unnatural; he absolutely didn't want to let Schiller detect that he was avoiding.
So he raised his head to look at Schiller's face, and the most eye-catching thing on Schiller's face was those gray eyes.
Jason stared at Schiller's eyes and took another step forward; some pictures flashed before his eyes.
A pair of slender and powerful hands held a shining needle, slowly approaching his field of vision, closer and closer, closer and closer.
The most terrifying thing is not the pain of the needle piercing the eyeball, but the infinitely long process of approaching; the pain that has already been applied can be endured by hardening one's heart, but the one that hasn't been applied cannot.
Nothing can resist this kind of fear; the fear of human beings when seeing torture instruments is greater than the pain felt when truly in pain.
Jason felt suffocated; as he took another step forward, another picture flashed; the cut-open arm muscles, broken bones, they were entangled together, becoming disgusting.
Another kind of fear brought by torture is that after experiencing irreparable mutilation, they still need to drag their scarred, ugly, and broken bodies, with those humiliating and painful memories, to finish their not-so-long lives.
The fear brought by this kind of association is also stronger than the pain received at that time.
Jason felt the J-shaped scar on his face start to bring him some unbearable pain; suddenly, some eyes and gazes became concrete in his memories.
When he took off his mask, how did Nightwing look at him? Shocked, sympathetic, or disgusted and mocking? Of course, there was also the Robin who replaced him; he must be the happiest one, right?
How could Batman accept an assistant who had been imprisoned by the Joker? He doubted everything in this world, so how could he not doubt that he had once revealed his secrets to the Joker?
Why didn't the Joker kill him? What exactly did he betray to exchange for his survival?
Everyone would think so; the one who died is a hero, and the one who survived is a traitor.
Taking another step forward by instinct, Jason saw a pair of clean leather shoes and two legs wearing straight suit pants.
He felt himself crawling on the ground on all fours; the other party took a step back, and he took a step forward, just like a dog wagging its tail for food.
Yes, this is the last step of this kind of torture to destroy the will; that will make them realize what they gave up and what they became in order to live.
Let them understand that from then on, they live just to live, not to live as a human being.
Intense fear swallowed Jason; Schiller's voice seemed to come from the distant horizon.
"Are you okay? Jason, perhaps making a phone call to Batman would be a better choice..."
Schiller turned to put the equipment in his hand on the table next to him; suddenly Jason rushed over like a madman, grabbing the tape recorder and micro-microphone in Schiller's hand.
Schiller instinctively raised his arm and took a step back; Jason roared at him: "Give it to me! Give it to me!"
Schiller's arm was grabbed by Jason, and then Jason used his other hand to grab the tape recorder line and microphone directly, throwing them heavily to the ground.
With a "bang," all the equipment turned into fragments.
Schiller lowered his arm, standing in place somewhat helplessly, looking at Jason and saying: "You know there is more than one recording device here, right? Doing this is meaningless, and very rude; I hope you will stop your violent behavior immediately, Jason."
Jason turned his head and rushed toward the door, saying in a hoarse voice that suppressed some intense emotion: "Drive! Let's go to that house!"
Schiller stood in place, expressionlessly watching Jason walk out, and after his figure disappeared at the door, Schiller slowly pulled out the pocket square from his pocket with one hand.
The bottom of the pocket square had some damp traces; Schiller spread the soft handkerchief on his hand and took out a needle from his pants pocket.
More medicine dripped onto the handkerchief that had just dried a little; Schiller muttered to himself: "No, Gray Mist, this is not wine; you can't drink it; this is just concentrated fear toxin."
Jason, who rushed out of the Batcave, had never held such high respect for the cool breeze of Cat Getan's morning; he took a deep breath, recalling his own behavior just now.
At the last moment, he didn't lose his mind; rather, he suddenly woke up; Jason's reason had long told him that he was just a nobody, while Batman was of great importance.
Joker, Scarecrow, Penguin, they hurt the Bat-family, essentially not because they had a grudge against the Robins, but just to threaten
No matter what any supervillain did to those around Batman, the target was always Batman.
The same went for his own kidnapping by the Joker; the Joker didn't want to extract any information by torturing him. Jason dared to say that his own understanding of Batman might not even be as deep as the Joker's.
The Joker tortured him only to use that fact to influence Batman.
Then, by reverse deduction, if Schiller really wasn't a good person but had successfully gained Batman's trust under some guise, his only possible plan was to pose as a psychiatrist to treat him, while using the treatment process to influence Batman.
Then Batman's highly suspicious habit of monitoring everything would play right into Schiller's hands.
Jason had watched several times as Batman made errors in judgment due to the Joker's verbal harassment, resulting in severe consequences.
Therefore, he didn't think that just because Schiller couldn't touch Batman in reality, he had no chance to harm him. He understood that there were certain types of supervillains whose words were far more powerful than their fists.
So he destroyed the communication equipment Batman had left behind and also planned to head to the safe house before Schiller, and dismantle all the surveillance cameras and listening devices there.
He knew how risky this was, and he also knew what kind of situation this would put him in.
If Jason had to describe his feelings toward this Dr. Schiller, and compare the difference between him and the Joker, he could only say: the Joker made him disappointed that Batman didn't come to save him, while Schiller made him hope Batman wouldn't come.
Getting into that slightly old Jaguar, Jason saw a note left by Nightwing on the steering wheel, which contained the address of the safe house Batman had prepared.
This safe house was located on a small island off the East Coast; they wouldn't just be taking a car, they would also have to take a boat.
The good news was that it must be a desolate place isolated from the world; the bad news was the same.
Jason sat in the driver's seat looking at the note until Schiller walked over and leaned down to look at the passenger window. Sure enough, he wouldn't easily let Jason get ahead of him.
Jason took a deep breath, unlocked the car door, and Schiller pulled the door open and sat in.
Jason smelled a faint scent of cologne, which reminded him of Lucius, Batman's technical consultant who frequently visited the Batcave; that man was also often dressed in a suit and tie, very attentive to his appearance.
Jason rolled down the window and started the car. To his surprise, Schiller didn't take the initiative to speak. He thought that was just as well; there were likely surveillance devices in the car.
Jason's driving style was cut from the same cloth as Batman's. If it weren't for the fact that this ordinary car couldn't scale walls like the Batmobile, they would have already been flying across building surfaces and rooftops.
"Does violent behavior make you feel more secure?" Schiller asked.
Jason didn't answer him; he entered a phase of silent resistance. Schiller, however, just kept talking to himself: "I hope we can set some ground rules. I hope that in the coming days, you won't use violent means to destroy the environment we live in, and it would be best if you kept your distance from me."
"Are you afraid?"
"Jason, you will soon understand that I am not a person who likes to talk nonsense." Schiller turned his head to look at Jason and said: "Every word I say has meaning. If you don't understand, just try your best to follow it."
"Even Batman has never tried to order me around like this."
"This isn't an order, just some heartfelt advice. If you don't listen, this will inevitably lead to some consequences, perhaps not the ones you want."
Jason curled his lip, unmoved. The car sped along, beginning to move away from the bustling city and heading toward the suburbs.
After driving down a highway that cut through the wilderness, they saw a boat dock at the end of the skyline. Taking advantage of the somewhat gloomy daylight of Cat Getan, Jason found a brand-new boat in a nearby warehouse.
He pushed the boat out of the warehouse and into the water. Schiller stepped on first and sat on one side, while Jason sat on the side with the engine.
"Do you think if I threw you overboard now, that fine, expensive suit of yours would help you splash around in the water?"
"First of all, I can swim. Secondly, you had better drive faster, because I get seasick." Schiller turned his head to look at the small island in the distance; clearly, this was an island, and they were now in the sea.
He didn't show any abnormalities, but he was very clear about the current symptoms of discomfort in his body. After comparing them in his mind, Schiller discovered that this was indeed some kind of physiological symptom, not a psychosomatic illness.
Jason deliberately drove the boat very slowly.
There was wind on the sea and waves on the surface; the slower the boat went, the greater the rocking. Then Schiller discovered that his seasickness symptoms had nothing to do with the amplitude of the boat's rocking; he seemed to be simply allergic to the ocean.
Schiller's face was pale, but his expression was calm. He didn't look at Jason, who was deliberately stalling, but just gazed at the horizon.
"How do you feel?" Jason revealed a wicked smile, and then, as if fearless, said: "What price will you make me pay for this? Stick needles into my eyeballs, break my arms, or perform some human modification surgery on me?"
"None of those, Jason." Schiller lowered his eyelids and said: "I am a doctor; I am not that evil."
"You are ten times more evil than that." Jason looked at him and said: "Don't think I don't know what kind of tricks you've been playing. I've been having hallucinations, not because I'm mentally unstable, but because you're the one behind it all."
"This is for your own good, Jason."
Contrary to Jason's expectations, Schiller admitted it. He finally looked at Jason again and said: "I hope you remember everything you saw."
"Do you think I'm afraid?"
"No." Schiller's tone finally turned serious. He said: "Rather than dealing with fear, you should be learning how to bring fear to others, shouldn't you?"
