Chapter 2062: Knight

~10 min read 1,936 words

Bruce met Jason again on the balcony on the top floor of a hotel in Washington D. C.

He wasn't wearing that Arkham Knight armor, didn't even wear any mask or hood, just wore a jacket, opened the balcony door of the hotel suite where Batman was, and surged in together with a gust of cold air.

And at this time, Bruce had just taken off his suit jacket, unbuttoned his shirt, and was preparing to change into pajamas. He needed sufficient rest; tomorrow was going to be a tough battle.

Jason stood in front of the window watching him, then lowered his eyes and threw a stack of materials onto the sofa next to him.

Bruce had an extremely urgent urge to walk over, but he restrained himself, standing by the coat rack watching Jason.

Jason lowered his head and said: "I said I wasn't sick."

But Bruce didn't open his mouth to ask questions like "Was the treatment ineffective?" because even if he didn't use Batman's abilities to look carefully, he could see that Jason was much better.

The young man placed his jacket on the back of the sofa next to him, then threw himself into the soft sofa, draped his arm over the back of the sofa, turned his head back to look at Bruce, and said: "How much money did you pay that guy named Schiller?"

"At least worth more than the price." Bruce evaluated.

Jason understood the meaning of his evasion, just stared at him tightly. Bruce's movement of unbuttoning his cuffs paused; he walked toward the washroom next to him and said: "I need to rest. An assistant will arrange a room for you next door."

Not so polite in sending him away, Jason, however, very rarely didn't angrily open his mouth to question. He sat silently on the sofa staring at Bruce's actions, until his back disappeared behind the screen at the entrance of the washroom.

Bruce walked to the sink and finished his work of unbuttoning his cuffs. He saw a trace of blood on the edge of the bandage wrapped around his arm in his sleeve.

Bruce took out a medical kit from the drawer underneath. Just as he pulled the zipper, he saw a black shadow cover the ground in front of him. Turning his head, Jason was standing at the door looking at him.

Really not good news, Bruce thought. He still preferred that irritable big alarm clock from before. Why did Schiller even teach him how to walk without making a sound?

Jason stared coldly at Bruce's arms. In fact, it was Bruce's two arms; the left arm had an injury, but it looked like it was almost healed, but the wound on the right arm was fresh.

And from the surgical knowledge Jason had just learned, that wasn't caused by an accident, nor was it cut by someone else; the direction and force of the blade indicated that Bruce had cut it himself.

"Next time I will remember to keep a syringe in stock." Bruce's thinking was still jumping. He turned his head back and turned on the faucet to wash his hands.

Jason stepped forward, wanting to reach out and pull Bruce's arm. Bruce stepped back to avoid it and said: "No, Jason, there's nothing to see here. I need to change the dressing."

"You gave him your blood." Jason still stared at Bruce with cold eyes and said: "He is studying the Joker virus, so he needs to analyze the components in your blood."

"I didn't know you possessed this level of medical knowledge." Still nonsense; Bruce looked like he wanted to muddle through just like this.

"You weren't unprepared with a syringe at all." Jason's tone contained hidden anger. He said: "You were intentional. You wanted to let yourself be injured and bleed in this way. Batman, why?"

Bruce's Adam's apple moved.

The muscles of his lips moved in a way that was hard to describe. The reason it was hard to describe was that after normal people's mouth muscles experienced such activity, a sentence would inevitably be spat out of their mouth, but Bruce didn't.

He finished all the pre-opening movements of speaking in an extremely long time, but ultimately said nothing.

Jason was relentless, so Bruce only had one method left, and that was to bring out Batman's deterrent power.

"This has nothing to do with you, Jason. Leave here." He said this, and his facial muscles changed in an instant, no longer the slightly slick businessman, but the Dark Knight who could bring fear to everyone.

At this very moment, Batman suddenly discovered that Jason was immune to his deterrent power.

"Seriously, Batman, is this the only trick you have?" He even had the energy to mock, "Puffing up your face, making a serious expression, and using a tone without a bit of politeness to demand others leave—really pathetic."

Batman discovered he had been scolded.

Of course, it wasn't to say he hadn't been scolded before; too many people scolded him. Just in Arkham Asylum alone, the words scolding him could carve an academic paper on the walls.

But if he remembered correctly, it could also be, perhaps, roughly, this was the first time he had been scolded by his own Robin.

Batman admitted that his brain crashed for a moment.

"Now the one being rude is you, Jason. Get out."

"No."

Very good. In the past, as long as they argued to this step, one person would inevitably turn and leave, usually Jason Todd, because after all, the place where they argued was called the Batcave, not the Robin Cave.

But now Jason had no intention of leaving, hugging his arms and leaning on the door of the washroom, staring coldly at Bruce.

Bruce decided to leave himself, but now the biggest problem was that the size of the hotel washroom door was unlikely to allow two 200-pound men to enter and exit in parallel; even if he turned sideways, it wouldn't work. This strongest Robin bird he had raised was blocking the door tightly.

First, he couldn't have a fight with Jason here, because he dared to bet that the entire corridor outside the door was full of FBI agents. The conversation with the FBI director just now couldn't be called pleasant, and Bruce wouldn't choose to hand the agents a handle.

Second, he recalled his mood when turning to walk to the washroom; of course, it would be slightly impatient, to the point that he didn't bring a Batarang with electric shock and anesthesia functions, and couldn't subdue Jason in a single breath.

Then there was only one path left to take: find a way to persuade Jason to move aside.

But Batman had never argued the remaining arguments.

He hadn't even thought about how the topic should proceed after he lost his deterrent power in front of Robin; he really wasn't good at this.

"You must be thinking about how to get out of here." Jason snorted coldly and then said: "But I won't move aside for you, unless you answer my question. You wouldn't want me to believe that there is still a question in this world that Batman can't answer, right?"

Batman felt for the first time that the chirping of one of his birds was so unpleasant; the way of speaking was too unpleasant, Jason.

But he only thought about this sentence in his heart, because he knew that if he said this sentence, Jason would let him know what "unpleasant speaking" was next.

Gotham thugs were never good at sarcasm, and Batman felt that Jason should be trying hard to restrain himself, and he absolutely couldn't give him a chance to curse.

He suddenly discovered that he couldn't accept from the bottom of his heart that his Robin would curse at him; even tone particles wouldn't do.

Thus, Batman rarely revealed an attack posture.

But Jason laughed, and he said: "You plan to solve the problem with violence, Batman. You also have today. I said you would always have today."

Responding to him was Batman's fist, which was the size of a sandbag.

Three minutes later, Jason squatted in front of the hotel suite's TV, using the reflection of the TV screen to apply medicine to his cheekbone and eye socket, while Bruce sat on the sofa wrapping his arm with a bandage.

"I will tell Alfred all of this, Jason." Bruce said: "Your performance today will make you lose your last snack exemption."

"And Alfred will definitely stand firmly on my side." Jason said without turning his head: "I will tell him that the reason I was captured by the Joker and locked up was because the two of us argued, and you didn't want to yield to me at all."

"Don't talk nonsense, Jason."

"You're afraid, huh?" Jason knelt on the ground, turned his head to look at Bruce, and said: "I will also tell him that we argued again today, and you punched me."

"My hand is injured."

"Yes, so I will apply more iodine, making it look more serious. Who will be the one losing the snack exemption?"

Bruce pursed his lips, almost to the point where his lips were almost invisible.

Jason turned his body completely around. When he knelt on the ground, he didn't show his strong body, which made Batman think of Jason's teenage years when he was still Robin.

At that time, he was still a nimble and agile bird, not known for being strong, but children always grow up very fast. From the feel of that punch just now, Jason should be almost heavier than him.

Bruce felt a trace of indescribable emotion wandering back and forth in his heart, so he stopped the movements in his hands and looked down at Jason.

"You just don't want to give me an answer, is that it?"

"Don't be like this, Jason."

This was the last sentence of refusal Bruce felt he could say, hurry up and stand up angrily as usual and walk away, beating up the FBI agents at the door would also work.

Bruce would allow him to do so, even allowing him to knock them all down and hang them outside the building wouldn't be impossible; if they fell, it was their bad luck; this was the 18th floor...

Not very good; Jason Todd didn't react.

Bruce discovered that Jason seemed no longer as irritable as usual, which led to everything they were experiencing now being brand new.

And Batman never won an encounter battle.

"You used a Batarang to cut a longer and deeper wound on your arm than in battle. Why? Batman?"

He really should leave the nest, this giant cuckoo bird. Bruce found himself very angry. Jason not only wanted to kick all the other chicks out of the nest but also wanted to give himself a kick. He would drive him away tomorrow.

And Jason was still staring at him, and repeated it again.

"Tell me why, Batman."

That's enough. Bruce took a deep breath.

What exactly did that damn psychologist treat?

What he wanted was his robin, even if it was a northern cardinal, but not this... hawk, or some other bird of prey right now; in any case, it looked like it could feed on bats.

Peter Parker's internship salary was gone.

This was the greatest resistance Bruce could make.

Then that emotion wandering in his heart finally stopped at his throat. He opened his mouth, carrying a tremor he couldn't explain himself.

"... I didn't find you, Jason." ===== CHAPTER 2063 =====
