Chapter 2107: The Ultimate New World (Part 23)

~11 min read 2,111 words

When they came out of Adela's house, the rain had stopped. Coulson held the recorded documents and walked from the rain shed on the side of the house to the garage. He turned his head to look at his assistant and asked, "Where are the two doctors?"

"They are in the garage checking the car's fuel tank to see if there is any fuel leakage, and by the way, checking the navigation device carried in the car to query the time the navigation signal was sent."

Coulson pulled up the garage door and walked in, finding Simmons and Fitz, one squatting next to the jack checking something, and the other standing aside with things recording.

"Good news, Coulson, we have work to do." Fitz stood up, took off his gloves, looked at Coulson, and said, "Notify the boss, confirm it as a supernatural event, and we can launch a comprehensive investigation."

Coulson frowned and asked, "How did you confirm it?"

Fitz pointed to the car's fuel tank and said, "First, there is no fuel leakage in the fuel tank, and there is no damage to any parts. Secondly, according to the state of the gasoline stuck on the fuel tank, we can judge the last refueling time."

"She hasn't refueled since she came back from Canada, and the car was towed back." Simmons chimed in, "The state of the gasoline left on the fuel tank is consistent with the residual state of the gasoline provided by the gas station where this lady said she last refueled."

"So?" Coulson continued to ask.

Fitz sighed and said, "This shows that this lady did indeed fill the entire tank of gas at the gas station she mentioned. We checked the credit card bill belonging to her in the gas station's charging system, and the gasoline traces corroborate this point."

"The traces on the fuel tank can also show that the tank was indeed full at the time. Without any damage to the fuel tank, it is impossible to exhaust a tank of gas by driving to the gas station, but the gas disappeared out of thin air."

"It's not exactly disappearing out of thin air." Simmons walked to the engine position of the vehicle and said, "We checked the wear of the engine. What can be determined is that the mileage driven within a week is definitely far beyond the distance from New York to the Canadian border area, at least two to three hundred kilometers more."

"Are there cameras at the border crossing?"

"Yes, but calling up monitoring equipment requires the consent of the Canadian side. We are striving for it." May spoke up, "Should we continue to investigate the next location?"

"This is already the fourth location, right?" Coulson frowned deeply and said, "Every witness left evidence, but every witness didn't leave any real shooting images. I find it hard to imagine what this mysterious visitor in the fog is like."

"I agree too. We can't just go see Nick like this." Simmons sighed and said, "His scolding will spread throughout the entire physical evidence analysis building, and then our bonuses will be deducted completely."

"We have to find a way to catch the tail of this mysterious 'Mist Visitor'. This is the codename I gave him." Coulson shrugged and said, "But I have to admit the inspiration came from the name Nick gave this project."

"I don't know what kind of madness the boss has been having recently." Coulson rested his hands on the edge of the car and said, "Wait a while, go and call the people in the information collection and analysis department to check if there are any suspicious psychiatrists nearby."

"Psychiatrist? What does this have to do with a psychiatrist? I think the mental state of the people we investigated is quite good, not at the point of seeking help from a psychiatrist." Fitz raised his head somewhat confusedly.

"I don't know either, I'm just repeating his orders." Coulson spread his hands and said, "Don't you think the term 'suspicious psychiatrist' itself is very suspicious? Stop messing around, how could a psychiatrist appear in such a remote place? Aren't they serving the upper class?"

"This is easy to handle, I'll go make a call in a while." Simmons nodded and said, "As long as it's a doctor with a license, we can definitely find something. Do you think these two things will be related?"

"I don't know what kind of madness Nick is having, but he might think this matter was caused by some psychiatrist."

"Nonsense." Simmons evaluated, "I guess it must be that some psychiatrist who did a psychological assessment for him didn't give him the results he wanted, so he is taking public revenge for private grievances."

Just then, Coulson's communicator suddenly rang. After Coulson answered it, Nick's roar came from the other side.

"I know what you bastards are guessing, but I'm not joking with you. Go check psychiatrists quickly. Oh, right, don't just check psychiatrists, also go check surgeons, psychiatrists, and any doctors, or those suspicious people on the street who ask you if you need help."

"Boss, good news, after we visited several witnesses, we found that this matter might indeed be a supernatural phenomenon."

"What kind of good news is this?!"

"The good news is that there is no evidence that this matter is related to the mutations of the residents of San Francisco for the time being."

"For the time being? Hmm?"

Coulson could clearly feel Nick's irritability at this time, but this most approachable good-natured agent was already very used to his superior being a stress monster.

He listened to Nick's roar and then said, "We have already contacted the information department. If he holds any doctor's license, he will not escape our sight."

"I think we shouldn't be distracted now." Coulson reminded, saying, "I think we are getting closer and closer to the 'Mist Visitor'. We will head to the next sighting location for investigation. Wait for our good news, Director."

Nick hung up the phone, sighed deeply, rested his hands on the desktop, looked at the photos filling the table, and a look of doubt appeared between his eyebrows.

If Nick had about 80% certainty that this matter was another ball of yarn made by Schiller before the investigation, he was indeed a bit uncertain now.

A significant problem was that fog was indeed one of Schiller's characteristics, but Nick had never seen Schiller use his fog-like symbiote to do anything other than escape.

Nick really hadn't seen Schiller use the Gray Mist to fight, or rather, everyone in the Marvel world hadn't seen much of the Gray Mist. They knew almost nothing about this mysterious symbiote.

The reason was that Schiller didn't use the symbiote at all. Schiller's ability to cause trouble didn't come from his martial power. The symbiote provided a certain ability to protect himself, but under Schiller's series of grand plans, it wasn't Schiller who needed the ability to protect himself.

So the cognition of the symbiote in Schiller's body by the people around Schiller was probably that he had powerful protective capabilities and could let Schiller disperse into a mass of fog that no one could attack. Other than that, there was nothing.

But then again, it wasn't like all the fog in this world was Schiller. To talk about Schiller's characteristics, any one of them was more obvious than fog. It was impossible that a mysterious person related to fog popped out and it must be Schiller.

And what made Nick shake the most was that this style of doing things didn't look like Schiller.

First, Schiller had always adhered to the style of not taking action personally if possible and hiding behind the scenes if possible. Even if he appeared, it was in the second half of the matter, when the matter was basically clear and the truth was almost impossible to hide, that he appeared at key nodes to push the development of the matter.

Second, Schiller was a person who pursued efficiency. If he had the time to appear personally to play a paranormal phenomenon, ten thousand balls of yarn would have been tangled. Nick, who was also a profiteer who exploited even himself, felt that Schiller wouldn't do such a losing business.

Actually, the second point was the main reason for Nick's suspicion.

The photos and investigation reports filling the table all showed that in the past week, this mysterious creature codenamed 'Mist Visitor' had been wandering around the Canadian border area to New York State.

If this were Schiller himself, it would inevitably occupy a large amount of his time, but there was no return to be seen. If this phenomenon was created by Schiller, then there should at least be some purpose, right? What is he wandering around for?

Connecting all the sighting clues together, after comprehensive analysis by various information analysis departments, physical evidence analysis departments, and behavioral science analysis departments, it was found that this mysterious visitor in the fog had nothing else to do but wander around.

Everyone wanted to know what he was wandering around for, but unfortunately, some witnesses were very cowardly and ran away when they saw him, and some were very brave and wanted to rush up when they saw him. But so far, no one had truly touched the Mist Visitor, and no one had successfully communicated with him.

The range of the Mist Visitor's wandering was too wide and too frequent. Now various rumors were rampant, the public had different opinions, and the media had their own views. Anyway, it was making a big noise.

And, it seemed that because this mysterious phenomenon didn't show any aggressiveness, some people who were courting death wanted to start summoning the Mist Visitor.

At the same time, since Nick came, he had been secretly investigating the mutation of San Francisco residents, but this couldn't be hidden from some people's eyes. Some people didn't want him to investigate, so they gave this matter great resistance.

Then the way to give resistance was to further hype the mysterious event of the visitor in the fog to be known to the whole world, forcing S. H. I. E. L. D., which was responsible for supernatural events, to have to shift most of its attention to this matter, so as to give the superiors an account.

Combined with the messy rituals that had no scientific basis at all started by those internet celebrity reporters who were jumping around, Nick's worry gradually shifted from whether Schiller participated in this matter to how he could get out of this matter and complete his purpose of coming here, which was to stop Bruce.

Nick felt that although the secret investigation into the mutation case of San Francisco residents couldn't stop, the investigation into the visitor in the fog also had to be stepped up. After thinking about it on the spot, he decided to call Coulson to ask about the progress of the investigation.

Nick had just picked up the phone when the phone rang. Nick picked it up and saw that the person calling was Coulson.

"I saw him! I saw him!" Coulson's roar and the sound of violent wind came from the phone.

"Eyes! He is staring at... beep beep beep—"

"Hello? Coulson! Coulson!!!!" Nick shouted Coulson's name at the other end of the phone, but the phone had already been hung up.

Nick clenched the phone angrily and slapped it on the table, but soon picked up the phone and a document at hand, and walked towards the information department of S. H. I. E. L. D. He had to contact the members of Coulson's team and figure out what they had encountered.

Coulson pushed open the car door, walked into the thick fog, stood in the center of the highway, and stared in shock at the shadow in the depths of the thick fog.

"God... they weren't lying." Coulson stared straight at the shadow and sighed, "He really exists, the visitor in the fog, he really exists."

The two scientists sitting in the back seat also got out of the car, frowning as they looked at the figure in the fog.

"What does he want?" Simmons asked.

"What is he looking at?" Fitz said almost in unison with her.

Then they looked at each other and felt surprised. Simmons took the lead and said, "I feel he wants to communicate with us. He might want to get something from us."

"He is looking at us." Coulson stared at the figure and said, "He is staring at us. He wants to convey information. What does he want to say?" ===== CHAPTER 2108 =====
