Chapter 2111: The Ultimate New World (Part 28)
Bruce turned on the car's windshield wipers, and then he found that it wasn't the fog sticking to the windshield that was blocking his view. The fog was getting bigger and bigger, and visibility was decreasing rapidly.
"Stop!" Aisha's milky voice rarely carried a trace of seriousness. She tugged at Bruce's coat corner and said, "Something's wrong, stop!"
Bruce slowly stepped on the accelerator, and the anger surging in his heart began to turn cold.
Aisha jumped down without thinking, pushing open the car door. She stood beside the car, turned her head to look behind, and Bruce also got out of the car, turning to look at their way back.
San Francisco had disappeared.
This huge city that should have appeared on the skyline had now become a thick fog where nothing could be seen clearly. They seemed to have been very far away from the prosperous society of civilization.
But they clearly hadn't driven for long, and were currently on the way out of the city, not at all in the suburbs. How big a fog could make the outline of the city disappear?
Suddenly, Bruce turned around abruptly. His sharp hair cut through the gathering thick fog, bringing up water droplets and micro-dust. The pupils in his gray-blue eyes contracted sharply, because he saw an ethereal figure at the end of the thick fog.
"Who are you?" Bruce stepped forward, staring tightly at the figure in front. Just as he was about to take another step forward, Aisha grabbed him.
Bruce looked down at Aisha. Aisha shook her head while staring at his face.
"What is that?" Bruce asked, looking at Aisha.
"I don't know." Aisha grabbed the corner of Bruce's coat and said, "But he is not a human. It's very dangerous here."
Bruce swallowed his saliva. He knew Aisha wasn't joking, and for this strange little girl with a sharp tongue to describe something as dangerous, Bruce didn't know how many times that could make him die.
He stood on the spot, tapped his feet, quickly pulled open the car door, hugged Aisha in first, and then got in himself.
"Don't... don't..."
It was already too late when Aisha shouted. Bruce stepped on the accelerator to the end, and the car rushed out at an extremely fast speed.
The airflow brought by the high speed cut through the thick fog like a knife. The huge roar and tremor brought by the speeding seemed to be able to shatter all fear. Bruce heard his heart beating with the tires, and his blood flowing with the gasoline.
"You have to stop." Aisha said with a slight pant, "This is something outside the scope of science. We can't escape."
Screech—
A sharp and ear-piercing braking sound came. Bruce lay on the steering wheel. Without wearing a seatbelt, he was hit and bleeding from his head. The blood flowing down blurred his eyes.
He pushed open the car door and rushed out of the car, roaring loudly at the figure still standing at the end of the thick fog.
"Come on! What do you want to do?! Do you want to kill me? Then come on!!!"
Bruce staggered back a few steps, wiped the blood on his face with the back of his hand, hammered the roof of the car hard with his hands clenched into fists, and roared.
"I don't know what you guys want to do at all. I don't know why you want to do this." Bruce leaned against the car door, supporting the rearview mirror with his arm, and said, "Why do some people in this world have everything from birth? Why can't some people?"
"We can't choose what we have. If this is God's will, then what's going on now? What is blocking me? And what are you?"
Bruce's language logic was a bit broken, but Aisha, sitting in the car, understood what he was saying. She sat silently on the spot for a while, then rummaged out a pack of tissues from the side of the seat, climbed to the side of the driver's seat, rolled down the car window, and handed the tissues to Bruce.
Bruce's Adam's apple kept trembling. He took the tissues and wiped his face messily, opened his mouth, and moved his jaw.
Aisha put her hands on the window frame of the car door, poked her head out of the car door, took a deep breath, and said, "If I were at home, I would take you to see a psychiatrist."
"I'm not sick, this is not my fault."
"He would say that too."
"Then why exactly?" Bruce spread his hands and said.
"What do you want?"
"Strength, wisdom, or something else that can save Gotham... that can save my parents." Bruce's tone became a bit choked. He hung his hands and stood on the spot, saying, "Am I really asking for too much?"
"You're not asking for enough." Aisha looked away and said, "Batman has them, but Batman can't do it."
"Then who can do it?" Bruce rested his hands on the window frame, lowered his head, and looked into Aisha's eyes, saying, "Tell me who can, God?"
"My dad, because he is not Batman."
Bruce stood on the spot, stunned for a while, opened the car door, hugged Aisha into the passenger seat, fastened her seatbelt, sat back in the driver's seat, and slowly started the car.
Driving forward in silence, Bruce finally got closer and closer to the shadow in the fog, and then he found that the human figure was standing by the road, quietly staring at every traveler on the highway.
Just as he was about to approach that figure, Bruce found that two points of light suddenly lit up in the thick fog in front.
Getting closer, two beams of light appeared and disappeared. Bruce wanted to slow down, but it was too late. On the opposite lane, a car with four people brushed past them.
At the moment the two cars crossed, they tacitly turned their heads to look at each other, but the fog was too thick, they couldn't see each other's faces clearly, but they were very sure that the other party was a real person like themselves, not a physical monster, nor an illusion.
Time and space crossed?
Coulson looked at the car passing by in disbelief. He vaguely saw the gray-blue eyes of the young man driving, but because the fog was too thick, he couldn't see his specific appearance.
But the fact that other humans existed in this mysterious space was enough to be shocking.
About ten minutes ago, when Coulson's team was studying the origin of the mysterious Dr. Sohip, they found that it was foggy outside the window.
This was an excellent opportunity to observe the anomalies around Niagara Falls. Of course, they wouldn't let it go, so Coulson's team immediately picked up their equipment and got into the car, preparing to drive to Niagara Falls overnight for monitoring.
As a result, they drove and found that they had driven another hundred kilometers and still hadn't seen the shadow of Niagara Falls. There was thick fog everywhere on the highway.
After driving for a while, they discovered a change. Although the shadow at the end of the thick fog was still standing there, two flashing light pillars appeared beside him.
After the car lights flashed twice, Coulson found that he had brushed past another car, and the driver sitting in that car was a human being just like their group.
"Is there a signal for navigation? What is the reaction of the monitoring equipment?" Coulson turned his head to look at the two scientists in the back seat again.
Fitz frowned and said, "The satellite signal has been cut off. This is not normal. We are using S. H. I. E. L. D.'s positioning satellite, and the security defense level is very high. It is unlikely to be shielded by external forces."
"The readings of the monitoring equipment are very strange." Fitz looked down at a gauge next to him and said, "There is a strange magnetic field here that can interfere with the operation of all electronic equipment."
"If a plane passes through here, will it crash?" Coulson immediately thought of a more realistic problem.
"It's hard to say. Don't you forget? Before, we thought we drove more than 200 kilometers, but in fact, it wasn't that far at all. We felt we were injured, but in fact, we weren't at all."
"He doesn't seem to want to hurt us." Simmons spoke up. He flipped through the materials in his hand and continued, "This is probably the only good news so far."
"Do you think this is an independent space?"
"I'm afraid it is indeed." Fitz raised his head to look at Coulson and said, "If this is not an independent space, there is no way to explain the fact that the driving distance of the car is inconsistent with the actual one."
"Regarding this mysterious thick fog, the most likely speculation is that the thick fog represents the entrance and exit of an alien space. Whenever we encounter thick fog, we will temporarily enter this mysterious space, and then leave here through the thick fog."
"And the time and space in the fog space are inconsistent with the outside world, and the exit may not necessarily fall at the location corresponding to the driving distance, which led to the situation we encountered before where we clearly drove in the fog for a long time, but after leaving the thick fog, we found that we were not at the destination corresponding to the mileage."
Coulson thought for a while and felt that what Fitz said made sense. Actually, the legend of alien space wasn't a day or two. For example, the most famous Bermuda Triangle, many people felt that it was the entrance to another dimension, which was why so many disappearance events occurred there.
The most famous legend about the Bermuda Triangle was that a whole ship disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle for thirty years. After coming out, the old were still old, and the children were still children, as if time hadn't passed at all. A passenger plane flew in, but appeared over another water area that was completely off the route.
According to what Coulson knew, these rumors were fake, but S. H. I. E. L. D. had indeed encountered some real space-time confusion events, and their basic characteristics were consistent with the above.
"Then let's temporarily name this alien space 'Mist Realm'. Now we know that all the thick fog that appears may lead to the same mysterious space, and humans who mistakenly enter the Mist Realm may meet in the crossed time and space."
"What if we stopped at that time?" May asked.
"Stopping the car takes time, and when the car stops, I'm afraid what we see again is a piece of thick fog." Coulson sighed, denying May's naive idea.
"Then will there be people who walked in?" Simmons put forward another bold idea. She said, "If someone didn't use any means of transportation but mistakenly entered the Mist Realm, and then met another person walking forward on foot, could the two of them communicate?"
"Perhaps, but what's the point of that?" Fitz tilted his head and said. Suddenly, he reacted, looked at Coulson, and said, "If the time in the Mist Realm is confused, then we might meet people from the past or the future."
The car ran out of gas.
Bruce slowly rolled down the car window, walked out of the car again, looked left and right, fiddled with his phone again, and found that there was no signal, so he could only lean against the car and sigh.
Aisha got out of the car again, walked to Bruce's side, tugged at his clothes, and said, "Look, is there someone over there?"
"Of course there is someone over there, he has been standing there for a long time." Bruce said unhappily. He thought Aisha was referring to the human figure at the end of the thick fog. From the time they started driving, the figure had been standing in the distance, and now it was still in the distance.
"No, he's coming over."
Bruce was startled, hurriedly looked towards where Aisha pointed. There was really a person there, and he was walking towards this side with big strides.
Bruce immediately took a few steps back, looking a bit terrified. He thought it was the monster in the fog rushing over.
As a result, a young man in a hoodie walked out of the fog.
"Hello, may I ask if you know where this is? How far is it to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory?" ===== CHAPTER 2112 =====
