Chapter 2126: Battle of the Two Cities! (Part 4)

~12 min read 2,287 words

Peter learned that the two Earths were about to merge while in the Restraint World, and he was noncommittal about it.

Because he knew the main universe had already been saved. After the Great Reboot of the changing eras, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, and other superheroes had more complete and stable stories; they would continue their lives in the universe.

But this old Earth, having endured catastrophe and riddled with holes, could no longer return to the normal universe. Even if they went back, no one could demand they set aside the pain of their past traumas and throw themselves into new lives; Peter knew this was difficult.

Even if they still had the strength, Peter understood some things about higher dimensions from the obscure and difficult knowledge the Black Sun had given him.

Although he didn't understand what "popularity" was, he at least understood that if the original story had been written to its end, a universe needed a fresh source, otherwise it would receive no attention and slowly head toward death.

The heroic destruction and rebirth of a universe is not the end; heading toward a withered state where no one cares in a place of silence is the true tragedy.

Although the newborn universe was already joyfully heading toward the future, they, the remnants of the old era, also had the right to seek survival. They needed a new story, and merging with a new world that still had vitality would be a decent path.

But hearing it was the world where Batman resided, Peter couldn't help but feel worried. The great name of Cat Getan rang in every Spider-Man's ears, so he decided to probe Bruce for the situation.

Bruce had received the news of the Earth merger much earlier than Peter, or rather, the merger of the two worlds had sought the opinion of him, the Batman of Earth-1.

Although usually the editorial department wouldn't seek Batman's opinion when making trouble—which is why many heaven-defying plots where mountains of shit collapsed appeared—this time the planner was Schiller, and he believed they should still seek Batman's opinion.

Bruce's opinion was that he had no opinion.

Batman's condition and his abilities were often directly proportional. While those stronger Batmen could be called "wish-fulfillers," their desire for control meant they would never hand Cat Getan over to others.

And the advantage of this rookie Batman was that he didn't view Cat Getan as his city. His current primary goal was still to find the murderer who killed his parents years ago, and his second goal was to make this city better. As long as he could achieve these two points, he could compromise on many things.

Bruce was very desperate to return to Cat Getan with Spider-Man's abilities to find the true culprit, but he couldn't just leave the current chaotic New York alone.

Especially since he couldn't find a good way to restrict the Pale Face. Even with Spider-Man's abilities, no matter how many mechs he destroyed, he couldn't break through the defenses of the Stark campus. He urgently needed to create some variables to tilt the situation in his direction.

When Bruce came to Marvel to conduct mission tests, time did not move, just like when participating in Battleworld. However, after the old Earth came to the Fog World, time returned to normal. He knew he had already disappeared from Cat Getan's reality for two or three days, and he was even more anxious to return.

At this time, Peter approached him, and the two began to discuss the possibility of a universe merger. Eventually, they discovered that New York and Cat Getan were simply a pair of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" disasters.

Although New York was superior in the quantity of crime, Cat Getan was not to be outdone in the quality of crime. The two cities were hard to distinguish, unable to tell male from female.

To deal with this phenomenon, the two decided to cooperate. The specific method of cooperation was: Bruce, having Spider-Man's powerful strength, would go be a superhero to fight crime, while Peter, although lacking superpowers, still had his knowledge and technology and could hide behind the scenes to provide help.

Peter originally wanted to take Bruce to his base, but Bruce believed that after the merger, they could fully utilize the resources of the Wei En Group to build professional equipment, while also helping Peter with scientific research, giving him a chance to walk another path.

The two hit it off immediately, so after the two cities merged, Bruce took Peter to his Batcave at the first opportunity.

At this time, the Batcave was not yet a Batcave; it was just the basement of the ordinary Wei En Manor, a place Bruce used to store and organize the equipment he had on hand.

Peter was shocked the moment he walked in.

When he saw the scene inside the so-called Batcave, he profoundly understood that this surprisingly rookie Batman was more than ten times more rookie than he had imagined.

Every arrangement in this laboratory perfectly stepped on the landmines of a scientist with research experience. Peter stood at the entrance, stunned for more than three minutes, not daring to walk in.

This really wasn't because he was timid, because less than two meters from his feet, a large bundle of cables with copper wires exposed, without any insulation protection, was connected to a large piece of equipment that clearly had a voltage far higher than household electricity. And the screen was lit, indicating the power switch hadn't been pulled.

And on the other side of the wall where this bundle of cables was piled, there was a sink where water stains could still be seen. The two were separated by no more than three meters, and the nearest rubber gloves were hung on a shelf at least seven or eight meters away on the other side of the room, hung together with fiber gloves used for chemical experiments.

Bruce just walked in like that.

Peter rested his elbows on the door frame, stepping on the ground with his toes. Bruce stood in the center of the room, looking back at him with some confusion, and asked, "What's wrong? Why aren't you coming in?"

"Why aren't I coming in?!" Peter glared at him, raised his voice, and said, "How did you dare to come in?! Did you pull the power switch?!"

"Why pull the power switch? To save electricity? But I'm not short on that little bit of electricity bill." Bruce shook his head and said.

Peter took a deep breath, waved his hands vigorously at him, and said, "You come out first, hurry up and come out!!"

Bruce didn't understand, feeling some hesitation, but still walked out and stood by the door.

Peter rested one elbow on the door frame, covered his forehead with that hand, took a deep breath, and said, "Where is the power distribution room?"

"Over there, but I've never been in there."

Peter stared at Bruce with wide eyes. Bruce lowered his head, coughed, and said in a low voice, "I'm not a professional electrical engineer; I can't possibly know everything."

Peter sighed and said, "You don't have to know everything, but at least you should seriously listen to the advice of professionals."

"What exactly is wrong? Did something go wrong somewhere?"

"You should be asking where nothing went wrong." Peter turned and walked toward the other end of the corridor, clearly intending to check the power distribution room. Bruce followed behind him, looking somewhat bewildered.

Arriving at the power distribution room, Peter finally knew what it meant to have his eyes opened. Compared to a power distribution room, this place was more like a storage room for electrical equipment. Everything that should be there was there, just not a single thing was in the place it should be.

Peter's head grew big just looking at it. He stood at the entrance, stunned for dozens of seconds, unable to speak. He even felt that the pile of cables on the floor didn't count for much anymore; that the screen of the large equipment he saw could light up was worthy of being called a miracle.

"This is too terrible." Peter's face wrinkled like the folds of a steamed bun. He shook his head while checking and said, "This has to be reorganized from scratch, otherwise it's impossible to use at all. Don't even think about equipment iteration in the short term. I'll modify the web-shooters I used before for you in a moment, and then..."

Zzzzt—Bang!!!

A violent sound came from the direction of the Batcave. The two hurriedly left the power distribution room and ran quickly through the corridor. Just as they rushed to the entrance of the Batcave, Peter saw a familiar figure.

"Electro?!"

He saw a man in a uniform standing in the center of the room, his expression slightly bewildered, his body language expressing his helplessness.

Peter suddenly realized. Having fought Electro several times, he understood that Electro's strongest ability was that he could turn into current and travel through all circuits; ordinary people simply couldn't catch him.

But after the two cities merged, the circuits must have connected together. In other words, the routes Electro was familiar with had become completely unfamiliar routes; it was very likely he was lost.

Electro, however, felt the voice calling his name was somewhat familiar. He looked at Peter and said, "Spider-Man?"

"I understand!!" Electro screamed. He shouted, "This is your trap! Spider-Man! You deliberately arranged this shitty circuit here to hook me!! You're too despicable!!"

Peter was speechless. He knew Electro was actually an electrical engineer. Could it be that when he was scurrying through the new circuit network, he saw the circuit layout here and his obsessive-compulsive disorder flared up, which is why he came over?

Immediately after, Peter discovered that Electro was pitch black all over, and he had a smoking afro. He turned his head, and sure enough, the wires, cables, the sink, and that large machine had all exploded into pitch black.

Peter used all his strength to keep from laughing.

It was very likely that Electro had just come out of the circuit and stepped on the ground, only to step right between the cables and the sink, directly causing a short-circuit explosion.

"You ruined my machine!" Bruce shouted. He rushed straight toward Electro. Peter reached out to stop him, but didn't dare to enter the Batcave.

Electro thought this was a trap. Knowing he was already injured and that two fists couldn't fight four hands, he turned into electricity again and rushed into the cables.

Bruce was stunned. He had never seen a person who could turn into lightning and didn't know how to pursue for a moment.

Suddenly, there was another bang. Peter turned his head and found that the basement door leading to the garden on the other side of the corridor had been kicked open.

Accompanied by a cold wind, a mech flew in front of Peter. Stark's cold voice came from inside, and Peter knew immediately who it was.

"Peter Parker, you must give me an explanation..."

Before he finished speaking, Peter turned and ran down the corridor in a flash, the mech following closely behind.

Peter rushed through the corridor at the fastest speed and plunged into the Batcave.

The mech controlled by the Pale Face wanted to follow in, but after seeing the scene inside the Batcave, it slammed on the brakes and stopped straight outside the door.

"You..."

Peter had never thought he could see a hesitant expression on the face of a mech, but from the body language of the mech, it could also be seen that it was deeply shocked by the arrangement inside the Batcave.

"Don't tell me this is your secret base." The Pale Face's voice came from the mech, his tone revealing deep disbelief. "Are you planning to commit suicide together here?!!"

Bruce turned his head to look left and right following the mech's gaze, still not seeing anything wrong, remaining very bewildered.

And Peter, taking advantage of the mech's stunned state, had long since walked to the back, picked up the insulated gloves, and looked at the cables that had just exploded.

It really wasn't his and Stark's shock that was strange; even though such a severe short-circuit explosion had just occurred, this cable actually still had electricity.

Borrowing Bruce's figure to cover his movements, Peter rushed over with quick eyes and hands, grabbed the remaining rubber part of the cable, threw it with force, and threw the charred cable directly onto the mech.

Zzzzt—Bang! Crack!

The mech fell from mid-air. Peter was shocked once again. He had originally just wanted to interfere with the mech's actions; he didn't expect the current of this thing could actually turn Stark's armed mech into scrap iron.

Could this really be Batman's trap?

Although Peter knew in his heart it wasn't, he was clear that this evil Stark must have thought so, and he wouldn't let it go. If he and Bruce wanted to save Cat Getan and New York at the same time, they had to pass this hurdle first.

Thinking of this, Peter hurriedly pulled Bruce away from the underground, pulled him to stand at the entrance of the Batcave, and said.

"First, don't go down there again. For the sake of your life, my life, and the safety of everyone in this community, stay far away from all circuits, please!"

"Second, hurry up and go stop Electro. He must be anxious to cause chaos in the city. You have to stop him from committing crimes, Spider-Man!" ===== CHAPTER 2127 =====
