Chapter 2131: Battle of the Two Cities! (Part 9)

~10 min read 1,965 words

The field of vision was pitch black, hazy memory fragments flashed constantly before his eyes. He tried hard to wake up and control his limbs, only to find his whole body was stiff and paralyzed.

When he opened his eyes, Bruce saw two faces. One of them he was very familiar with; it was Peter Parker.

The other face was older than Peter's, and also more refined, wearing a suit and tie, and even wearing silver-rimmed glasses. The only problem was that his eyes were not very focused, a bit like a blind person.

Bruce wanted to move, but couldn't move at all. His whole body hurt terribly. That strange feeling of paralysis made him unable to even open his mouth, so he could only stay stiff in place and listen to the two talking.

"Did I hear that right?" Peter said: "He wanted to use his hands to grab Electro, and then he was electrocuted?"

The other man nodded.

"I have a question." Peter's voice could already be called helpless. He said: "First of all, how could Electro be caught by him?"

Peter's implication was very clear. How could Electro be caught by someone who would grab Electro with his bare hands?

Was it that the Electro he had dealt with for so many years was fake, or was it that Electro's feet had left the ground, the virus had shut down, and his IQ couldn't go up either?

"Iron Man cut off the electricity on that street." The man wearing glasses answered: "And it seems he manipulated some electrical storage equipment to conduct a current shock, forcing Electro out of the circuit."

Peter could imagine the following scene. After Electro was forced out of the circuit, he needed to readjust his body state to turn into electricity again, which meant this skill had a certain cooldown time.

Electro, who was being chased by Stark, couldn't stand in place and wait for the cooldown to finish. He must have thought of an escape route before being forced out, and after landing, he buried his head and ran.

But Bruce was chasing behind Electro. He saw Electro detach from the circuit and rushed over without thinking.

Electro's active skill was on cooldown, but he still had a passive skill. Even in human form, he was covered in electricity. Bruce wasn't wearing an insulated suit, so he experienced the fate of an internet-addicted teenager on the spot, being electrocuted clearly and thoroughly.

Stark flew down wanting to find trouble with Bruce, but was stopped by Daredevil. Stark certainly wanted to make a move, but Captain America and the agents chasing behind him were not to be trifled with either.

The Pale Face was already wanted by S. H. I. E. L. D. He was now a fugitive. If he was caught by Captain America, he would have a hard time. The other "himself" was constantly fighting with him for control of the mech in the system. With internal and external troubles, the Pale Face could only choose a strategic retreat.

Then Daredevil Ma Te picked Bruce up, and after a check, he discovered Bruce's abnormality and hurriedly called Peter over.

"... That's how it happened." Peter explained his encounter to Ma Te, took out the small bottle containing the web fluid raw material from his bosom, placed it on the table, sighed long, and said: "I don't know how to say it. I have never seen such a Batman."

"What should Batman usually be like?" Ma Te asked somewhat curiously. He had heard Spider-Man mention it once before, but didn't explain it in detail.

"Completely opposite to him." Peter wrinkled his eyes, rubbed his eyebrows, and said: "Before, I thought Batman's personality of having a plan for everything, although rigorous enough, was also a bit paranoid. Now it seems, it's better to be paranoid."

Ma Te's view was more mature than Peter's. He said: "Peter, I know the situation was urgent at the time and you had to do it, but have you ever thought that Bruce Wei En, who has obtained Spider-Man's abilities, lacks not the power of the engine."

Peter looked at Ma Te, and Ma Te looked at Bruce.

Now he only had an engine, no steering wheel, no wheels, no brakes, and no gas pedal. He had obtained huge power, but didn't have the brain, skills, and willpower to match it at all.

Peter also began to have a headache because he knew Ma Te was right.

It was only today that he discovered that he could become Spider-Man not entirely because he obtained superpowers. Peter Parker had always thought he was mediocre, but now he discovered that he was extraordinary from the beginning.

Think about it, after obtaining powerful strength, there were still several hurdles he needed to pass.

A weak person who was bullied suddenly obtained powerful strength. Restraining the suddenly erupting desire was a very difficult thing. One out of ten people might not be able to persist in basic morality, let alone continue to be considerate and kind.

Even if morality was maintained, one would always become more and more daring because of the convenience of power. The more developed the muscles, the more atrophied the brain, and finally, one would lose most of their reason and become a beast that only relied on force.

Even if one had both morality and reason, one still needed enough wisdom so that the brain could fully mobilize all one's strength in an emergency to achieve the best result, instead of thinking for a long time and choosing the worst one among many paths.

Even if morality, reason, and wisdom were enough, one still needed rich knowledge reserves, practiced skills, sufficient experience, and even some luck that was hard to explain clearly.

Only when all these things were added together could a superhero be born. But with these things, how many people would only be satisfied with being Spider-Man?

They would only feel that "I have these things, I must be able to save the world more quickly and perfectly. I must achieve it in one step, once and for all, start from the right path, and then run wildly to the end, obtaining everything I want."

The most essential sin of humanity is arrogance, Peter thought. Perhaps from the beginning, his biggest difference was that he was always more humble than ordinary people.

Bruce woke up, struggled to lift his upper body wanting to sit up, and Ma Te reached out to help him.

Bruce coughed twice, spitting out the air that was stuck in his throat, but his chest was still stuffy.

He turned his head toward the wall, his eyes also turning with it, showing an attitude of resistance. It wasn't because he lost face; he just couldn't understand why things that others could do easily, he would go through twists and turns, and in the end, couldn't achieve what he wanted.

Why is it so unfair? All other Batmen and Spider-Men are doing well, only when he is Batman, he is not like Batman, and when he is Spider-Man, he is not like Spider-Man.

This is not a problem of Batman or Spider-Man at all, but his own problem.

But where exactly am I lacking?

Bruce couldn't figure it out.

Peter walked to his side and sat down, supporting his upper body. Ma Te handed over a water cup, and Peter fed Bruce some water. The clear and cool water flowed over his dry lips, making him feel better.

"Don't be too anxious, Bruce." Peter put down the water cup, untied the web-shooter on Bruce's wrist, put the web fluid raw material in, and said: "The greater the ideal, the greater the responsibility. But if you want too much, you will think too much, which will make you too eager and lose the most basic judgment."

"What should I want?"

"Don't try to start by saving two cities, boy." Ma Te opened his mouth and said. He tapped the wall by Bruce's leg with his blind cane and said: "If you set your goal so big, you will only be like a headless fly, chasing here and chasing there, and in the end, you won't catch any of them."

"Answer me, Bruce, are you unwilling to spend your life for this huge goal? If you are willing, why be in such a hurry? Let's set the goal more realistically."

In the gap of this conversation, Bruce discovered that he at least had one advantage, which was that when the other party was far stronger than himself, he could still listen to advice.

Although discouraged by his several failures, he was also like an ordinary person, both accustomed to failure and able to find some decent reasons to comfort himself after failure.

"Then what should I do now?" Bruce looked at Peter, completely asking what Peter would do if it were Peter now.

"Stop Captain America." Peter answered. He grabbed Bruce's arm and said: "The reason for your failed pursuit this time is not the judgment to chase Electro, but Stark cutting in and disrupting your pursuit rhythm."

"You have to go find Captain America, let him go find Stark to talk, and S. H. I. E. L. D. too."

"You go tell them that their goal is Tony Stark. Now the chaos in the city and the Sinister Six are all left to you. You must drive them away from each other separately, so that you won't hold each other back and interfere with each other."

Bruce suddenly realized.

His previous train of thought was always to chase when he saw criminals, hide when there was danger, and catch them as soon as he could.

But in fact, what is happening in the city now is two things: Captain America and S. H. I. E. L. D. are catching the fugitive Stark, and Bruce wants to stop the Sinister Six from making trouble everywhere.

These two things can be handled separately, but if they cross together, accidents are easy to happen. If the Pale Face hadn't suddenly made a move to force Electro out and let Bruce fight him slowly, Electro, who hadn't fully charged, might not have been the opponent of Bruce, who had Spider-Man's abilities.

Thinking of this, Bruce became depressed again. Why didn't he notice it before? Why is it so simple for others to think of the answer, but for him, his brain is in chaos? And it is foreseeable that it will continue to be chaotic next.

"Don't be discouraged, you are no longer alone." Peter pressed Bruce's arm and looked into his eyes and said: "Believe me, this is not that desperate Gotham. We won't let heroes fight alone."

"I'll go make a call to Steve and Nick." Ma Te turned to touch his phone and said: "Tell them there is a rookie here who needs enough space to exercise."

Then he took out a portable communication device from the drawer and threw it to Peter. Peter put it on Bruce's wrist and put the earphone end in his own ear.

"I still have to go help other heroes." Peter stood up, looked at Bruce and said: "But you can call me if you encounter any problems. We can be considered a team, right?"

Bruce hesitated, but still nodded.

Just as Peter turned to leave, Bruce called him. After coughing twice, he told Peter a number and said.

"This is the phone of Fox in the Wei En Group's technical department. He has the authority to call the laboratory. You can go use Wei En's laboratory. There is equipment you can use there, but be careful, don't let the shareholders find out."

Peter stood by the door and showed him a smile. Now he felt that such a Batman was also not bad. ===== CHAPTER 2132 =====
