Chapter 2203: Autumn Arrives Late in the Golden City (Part 3)
The lush paulownia trees were beginning to shed their leaves. At this moment, however, the scene outside the hotel window was somewhat strange; overnight, new buds had turned green again, causing people to stop and stare.
Looking in through the window, an arm was draped over the edge of the bed, with a thin, small vine wrapped around the wrist.
Pamela yawned, looked up, and saw it was already 9:00. She sat up from the bed in the bedroom, closed her eyes for a while longer, then reached out to smooth her messy, fluffy hair before her feet touched the floor and she stretched.
Another thin hand reached out from under the quilt, a small piece of black nail polish chipped off. Talia's head poked out from under the covers, she turned to the side, and hissed, drawing in a sharp breath of cold air.
She sat up abruptly and touched her back. After feeling a sharp pain, she threw a pillow hard at Pamela and roared, "You lunatic! I haven't suffered such a severe injury in ten years!"
"Don't talk nonsense," Pamela said coldly, yawning. "I told you, I have a heavy hand, and you were the one who said it was fine."
Talia fell back onto the bed, also gave a light yawn, and said, "I'm curious how your former bed partners survived. You tried to strangle me five times last night, at the very least."
"Is this beyond your expectations?" Pamela picked up the pillow from the floor and said, "You were the one who invited me. Now, who is the little girl?"
"You're crazy!" Talia muttered. "I'm a female assassin. Do you know what an assassin is? It means taking money to do a job. I usually work for my father; the goal is clear, and the execution is swift."
"Driven solely by profit?"
"You could absolutely say that."
The female assassin took a deep breath.
"But you, goddamn it, are a pervert!" she yelled. "You damn sadist!"
"I said it was you who invited me first." Pamela rolled her eyes, turned, sat down at the vanity, and said, "I admit I attacked you with vines. I had the motive, but there was a perfectly reasonable cause for it."
"Look, we can't dance on a hotel bed, especially at 3:00 AM. It's completely immoral. I wanted you to be a little quieter. I warned you, but you didn't listen. These were just some reasonable restrictive measures."
"And I told you, plants have their own will. The vast majority of plant vines are soft and tough, but there are a few that get a sudden whim to grow sharp thorns. Obviously, that's not something I can control."
"The vine around your neck was a bit tight, yes. I said you could call out to me, and it's also your fault for having such long hair; you probably made it itch."
"During the second half, I had to stop your voice because, as I said, the Green of All Things demanded I stop my behavior immediately. He said his power wasn't meant for me to do this."
"But screw him, who cares? I was having the time of my life."
Talia was completely deflated. She buried her face in the pillow and said, "Screw Cat Getan. It's full of lunatics, mental patients! His plan is completely wrong. Batman's genes simply cannot be used. I cannot have a lunatic child! No one here will do."
"You haven't given up yet?" Pamela said while patting her face with lotion. "Is a child that important to you?"
"It's just a plan, and it usually has its own significance," Talia said, rolling over to stare at the ceiling. "If it's important to the League of Assassins, then it's important to me."
"No correlation," Pamela evaluated. "You can work for the League of Assassins, or you can have a child."
"Why can't I have both?"
"If you have both, then no matter who the father is, you'll just get another lunatic in 20 years. You know a child's healthy growth environment cannot be in an assassin organization, right?"
"I don't care, as long as he's useful."
"It seems you don't intend to be a mother."
"Yes, childbirth is just a process. If it weren't to ensure accuracy and safety, I wouldn't have come personally."
"Then I hope you can resist the influence of hormones." Pamela picked up the foundation and said, "Will you sleep with your son?"
Talia made a look of disgust and said, "Of course not."
"Then I'm afraid you will also be trapped by morality."
"Will you?"
"I don't care, as long as he's useful."
Pamela's attitude left Talia deep in thought. After witnessing the true face of this bunch of lunatics, she discovered that she was actually a normal person.
Everyone here, at least everyone Talia had met, didn't look like humans at all. That sense of inhumanity was so heavy that Talia felt she was surrounded by monsters.
Talia had been told that her father only treated her as a tool. She had always scoffed at such talk, but last night, she felt deeply that she was just a tool.
It wasn't a humiliation or contempt, but rather some monster, purely chasing desire and disregarding everything, playing with a toy it didn't fully understand but found interesting.
"You also enjoyed all of this, didn't you?" Pamela said while drawing her eyebrows. "I didn't feel you resisting, but I know you hid a knife. You didn't use it, so I'll take that as your tacit consent."
Talia didn't admit that she didn't move because she had been completely overwhelmed by fear. She wasn't afraid of pain or injury, but this damn girl who had just graduated from college was too evil, making her feel that if she didn't cooperate, the other party would use vines to explore some deeper organs, and would absolutely not put them back in their original places.
"Have you ever thought about killing me?" Talia asked.
"I usually don't think about killing anyone, I don't have that interest, but when I get excited, I can't quite control myself. If you happen to die, I can only say I feel very sorry."
"You aren't sorry at all."
"Then I sincerely thank him for becoming my fertilizer."
Talia propped up half her body with her elbows, lowered her head, her black hair hanging by her ears, and let out a long breath. Her whole body ached everywhere, but she still struggled to sit up.
A vine groped over, trying to help her, but Talia cursed and said, "Take it away, stay away from me."
"I guess you'll smash all the flower pots when you go back, but I want to tell you it's useless. Plant growth requires soil, but it requires even more intense desire."
Talia cursed more, but it was useless. The vine straightened her shoulders, letting her sit on the bed.
"Do you think I should have a child?" she asked.
"Still the same thing: be a mother, or be a womb. Otherwise, you won't be able to be either."
"Do you think I'm fit to be a mother?"
"At least you have the ability to keep your child very safe, and from my experience last night, you might also be able to make him very wealthy."
These words truly moved Talia, especially the first sentence. She knew her greatest bargaining chip was this set of skills. If she had a child, she could pass all of this on to him.
And no matter what tragedy he encountered, at least he could save his life. This was what his mother gave him. Thinking about it this way, it was quite fulfilling.
Talia lit a cigarette and said, "Seriously, I don't really fancy Bruce Wei En anymore. He is indeed quite rich, but I don't see that he has any very special abilities."
"Wisdom, yes, it sounds very good, but it might not be hereditary. You can find better advantages in bones and muscles. As for the rest, perhaps experience is more important."
"You met him too early," Pamela said, hitting the nail on the head. "If you met him in 20 years, you would definitely want his genes at all costs."
"Why so sure?"
"I've seen him in 20 years. Seriously, he would be the perfect target for you and your father, especially your father."
"How so?"
"Your father is reputed to be very clever, but he is far too normal."
Talia was speechless. It was the first time she had heard someone say the leader of the League of Assassins was a normal person, but she couldn't refute it, because compared to this bunch of lunatics in Cat Getan, Ra's al Ghul couldn't be more normal.
"He will see all the advantages of Batman and be amazed by him, but he cannot see the black tide surging beneath the calm water surface. That is the easiest thing to inherit. You won't know if what hatches is a bat or a dark giant dragon."
Talia pursed her lips and said, "The uncertainty of heredity is like a bomb. I opposed this plan, but he was very insistent."
"Then give him an egg," Pamela said lightly. "No one can know whose seed you actually accepted. A child can't be stuffed back in once born. Maybe it can give you some extra surprises?"
"Who do you think is more suitable?"
"I can't give you advice on this because I don't know what you actually want, but I think for a mother, a child's personality might be more important than ability."
"Then Bruce Wei En is completely ruled out." Talia changed her posture, lying on the bed, letting her long hair hang down from the edge. She held the cigarette in her mouth and let her hands hang down, saying, "He is nasty as hell and very despicable."
"Then all Gothamites won't do. Excluding the influence of some mysterious dark factor, everyone here has the possibility of latent mental illness. It wouldn't be good if it were inherited."
Talia thought seriously, watching Pamela finish her full makeup. She looked curiously at Pamela walking to the bathroom to change clothes and asked, "Where are you going?"
"I have a banquet tonight, a graduation celebration banquet for one of my classmates and experimental partners. He isn't the point; the point is that the host of the banquet is his teacher and godfather."
"Who is that?"
"Schiller Rodriguez."
"Another lunatic."
Pamela stepped into her dress and said, "Yes, but I still have to take it seriously. I still have to study for my postgraduate degree."
"Studying for his postgraduate degree?"
"Don't tell ghost stories. It's just very hard to avoid dealing with him."
Talia propped her face with one hand, squinted, and smiled, saying, "Dressed to the nines, I see you don't really want to avoid it either."
Pamela's movements paused. She actually thought about it carefully before saying, "If I had to choose, I would choose my physics professor, Victor Fries."
"Is he handsome?" Talia recalled, feeling like she had seen this person, but she recalled more of Schiller's appearance. She said, "I've dealt with many scholars like your psychology professor, but his temperament is the most special, especially when he looks at me."
"Like looking at a piece of meat?"
"Like he didn't see a damn thing. Do you think this is common for me?"
"Of course it would be like that," Pamela curled her lips and said. "When you go to think, 'Wow, there must be many people coveting him, I can't even get in line,' it proves you are safe."
"So I deny his attraction to me, because if such a thought popped into my head one day, even if it were just accidental, it wouldn't completely avoid the possibility of me being stir-fried into a dish."
"Is it that scary?"
"When he decides to attract you, you will feel that he was simply born for you, matching you in a thousand ways, perfectly compatible. If you feel this way, it means the venom he injected into your body has already taken effect."
"Have you been bitten by him?"
"Not yet." ===== CHAPTER 2204 =====
