Chapter 2316

~11 min read 2,038 words

Bat-Bane walked quickly through the corridors of Wei En Manor, straightened his freshly tied tie, smiled at Alfred after walking down the stairs, and Alfred led him toward the door.

"I'm so sorry, Alfie, I was invited, but I can't attend the entire music festival..."

"Please don't feel sorry, Master. Your important business is more important than anything. If you don't mind, could you tell me what trouble you've encountered?"

Bat-Bane pursed his lips, his expression becoming serious. He said, "My friend Rachel works at the Cat Getan City District Attorney's Office. While organizing indictment materials, she accidentally discovered that Cat Getan's gangs are conducting large-scale drug deals with a super-criminal codenamed Scarecrow."

"I see, but if I may be so bold, this is very common in Cat Getan City," Alfred said.

"Yes, drug deals are commonplace here, but this time is different. Besides the exceptionally large amount of drugs they are trading, Rachel noticed that a group of unusual organizations is attempting to interfere with this deal. I'm afraid they are my fans."

Alfred suddenly realized, and Bat-Bane appeared worried. He said, "Gang leader Falcone has been infiltrating Cat Getan's upper echelons, which leaves Rachel helpless against many vicious criminals. Some time ago, many people died in a large-scale bank robbery on Central Avenue. The public is panicked, and Rachel and Harvey both believe this is the masterpiece of another super-criminal."

The two of them had already walked to the door. Bruce was standing by the road waiting for him. When Bat-Bane walked over, he discovered that a huge box truck was parked behind Bruce.

"What is this?" Bat-Bane asked.

Before he could even examine the truck in detail, something soft was stuffed into his arms. He looked down and saw Aisha grinning at him.

Bat-Bane touched Aisha's head and smiled at her, then continued to look up at Bruce. Bruce pointed to the truck and said, "These are some little gadgets Aisha uses in her daily life. The teleportation channel doesn't limit volume, so you can take them back together."

"Little gadgets," Bat-Bane repeated the word. He walked around to the box door of the truck, poked his head in to take a look, and after pulling his head back, stared at Bruce with wide eyes.

"I understand everything else, but what's up with that children's slide in the very back?"

"That's her toy."

"But there's no need to bring it; I can buy her one..."

"One is probably not enough, and she only likes the texture of this one."

"Then buy more... texture???"

Bat-Bane looked down at Aisha again. Aisha revealed a brilliant smile at him again, a mouthful of shark-like sharp teeth flashing with cold light.

Bat-Bane immediately stopped asking.

"What trouble did you encounter? In such a rush?" Bruce asked curiously, but it led to a long string of complaints from Bat-Bane.

"Official-business collusion, business-law collusion, drug deals, group moles... I really don't know when days like this will end," Bat-Bane sighed heavily and said, "Rachel sent me a message saying she found clues about a deal between gang leader Falcone and that super-criminal codenamed Scarecrow, hoping I could go back to help her investigate."

"But we all know that even if he's caught, there's no way to bring him to court. Using mental illness to escape punishment is their usual trick..."

"The psychiatrist was bought off?"

"Of course, and not just that; almost the entire legal system has been bought off."

"Then buy it back."

Bat-Bane stared at Bruce. Bruce said, "Spend money to buy them back."

"But this is bribery and interfering with judicial results. I can't do illegal things."

"You are just correcting all of this, using the same means as them," Bruce looked at Bat-Bane and said, "It is precisely the money you pay that guarantees judicial justice."

Bat-Bane turned his head to the side, put his hands on his hips, and said, "You should understand that these people are all jackals with big appetites. They will open their mouths like lions to anyone. I can't interfere with the operation of the Wei En Group because of this, and the shareholders won't agree either."

"Then don't use the Wei En Group's money; use your private funds."

"I don't have that much money," Bat-Bane said. "Most of the money is in fixed assets, and a small portion is needed to operate the foundation and trust."

"I think you can also start some industries or something. Although the inheritance left by Thomas and Martha is large, the liquid capital is not. Plus, with inflation, sitting and eating away at the mountain like this is no way."

"It's not that I haven't thought about it," Bat-Bane said. "But previously, CEO Earle vetoed all my joint investment plans and even intervened to interfere with the flow of my personal funds. He caused me quite a bit of trouble at the shareholders' meeting. I was busy dealing with him and couldn't find any free time to make investments myself."

"Do you have any specific investment plans?"

Bat-Bane thought for a moment and said, "There's a prototype in my mind, but it's nothing more than those few sets. I've decided to pick up some of the charity work that Earle abandoned before. I can also invest my own money into it. Even if the return isn't much, saving people is what's important."

Bruce shook his head and said, "This is completely unsustainable, you understand."

Bat-Bane's complexion wasn't very good. Of course he understood. By the time he grew up enough to inherit the Wei En Group, Earle had almost controlled all the shareholders. They not only abandoned all charity work but also did everything that financial groups do: exploiting employees, bribery, and manipulating elections.

After returning from the Battleworld, Bat-Bane made up his mind to take back power from Earle, but at this time, his plan hadn't been fully completed. Regarding reform, the Wei En Group still had the heart but not the strength, let alone earning money for himself.

This was a vicious cycle. If he had no money, he would have even less ability to deal with this group of colluding officials, criminals, and shareholders, but to deal with these people, he had to have money first.

"The personality trait currently dominating Professor Schiller's body is a financial planning master. If you are willing to pay, he can give you a financial plan that is absolutely effective and very simple to operate."

Bat-Bane raised his eyebrows. He still trusted Schiller's ability, but he never knew Schiller was also good at business. Bruce patted him on the shoulder and said, "Their personality traits have different divisions of labor. Some are as good at psychology as others are at economics. Want to try?"

Bat-Bane licked his lips, looked at Bruce, and said, "How much money?"

Bruce took a business card out of his pocket, put it into Bat-Bane's pocket, and said, "You should have a Battleworld test version terminal, right? Contact this number. Perhaps what he wants isn't necessarily money, but believe me, paying money is the cheapest."

Bat-Bane touched his suit pocket, nodded, and said, "Thank you for your kindness, but let me ask one more thing: where are you going on this long trip? I heard you want to send the Robins to that Batman wearing metal armor."

"The place I'm going isn't very far, but I have to go to several places," Bruce stretched and said, "The boss isn't working hard, slacking off and sleeping every day, and doesn't know how to run even when locked up. What can I do?"

Bat-Bane patted Bruce on the shoulder, the two looked at each other and smiled, and Bruce stood at the entrance of Wei En Manor watching Bat-Bane leave.

Then he turned back and shouted at the manor hall, "Come over! Everyone come over! Pack up, get ready to go to the concert!"

The children cheered and rushed out. Jason ran the fastest. He ran down the stairs and said, "Did you listen to the radio last night? Biggie's new song is simply amazing! I thought he would release an album; I didn't expect it to be a new single!"

"You're wrong, 2pac's new single is the real B-side chart-topper! We have to use results to speak," another voice came from the back garden. Peter jumped in through the window, holding a roll of posters in his hand.

"I can't believe he's doing a new song signing in Cat Getan. Look at the new poster I snatched! It has both of their signatures on it!"

The children immediately crowded over and discovered that this poster was actually a group photo of Biggie and 2pac.

"My god, is the person who printed this photo tired of living? I heard they were sworn enemies," Dick widened his eyes and said, "Wait, there are signatures. How could they sign their photo together?"

"Your news is too outdated," Peter looked at Dick with some contempt and said, "Don't you know Biggie appeared at 2pac's signing event? And it appeared as a surprise easter egg. The two of them have made up."

"Yes, yes, yes," Tim said, "I listened to the radio last night until very late. At that time, Biggie said on the radio that the conflict between them was completely a misunderstanding, and I think he was implying that someone was sowing discord."

"Mommy!" Jason exclaimed at the explosive gossip and immediately pulled Tim, wanting him to repeat the content of yesterday's radio.

"I pulled you to listen yesterday, but you wouldn't," Tim pushed him away and said, "You insisted on sleeping, missed the exciting part yourself, and still want me to tell you? No way!"

Jason snorted and said, "If you don't tell me, I'll go tell your aunt you listen to rap!"

"God! Are you crazy? This will make her nag my dad for a dozen hours... Alright, alright, don't touch the phone, I'll tell you."

They gathered around the fireplace and discussed it chattering. Alfred walked over, turned on the TV, and tuned to the local Cat Getan TV channel. The host's voice came from inside.

"I really can't believe such a big surprise would happen in this city. I've said it before, Cat Getan has its own unique artistic atmosphere, no worse than any other city."

"I think you're too modest," a music critic said, "If two top rap singers found inspiration here and were even able to put aside their prejudices to create better music, then I must say, Cat Getan absolutely deserves to be called a City of Music."

"Regarding the past of those two rap singers, do you know anything?" the host said in a slightly gossipy tone.

The discussion in front of the screen also stopped, and everyone pricked up their ears, wanting to hear if the industry insiders knew anything.

They saw the host on the TV screen was white, while the music critic was black. This critic flipped his palms and said, "There is no doubt that Christopher's radio interview yesterday was implying something. Someone wanted to sow discord in their relationship."

"Regarding this part, do you think he's exaggerating or is it some conspiracy theory?"

"I don't think so," the black critic sighed and said, "You know how much loss those old men who insist on drawing lines for pop music have suffered due to the popularity of rap music."

"This society doesn't want to see a music group dominated by the black community have such great commercial value, because the higher the commercial value, the greater the right to speak."

"I don't know if this can be said on the show, but the long-term silence of the black community makes people forget that we have tongues, and even black people themselves have forgotten."

"When we find some street kids, but they say 'I'd rather sell drugs than make music,' I know that this society has used a hundred years to make an entire race think they are useless, think they are naturally evil, despicable, and hopeless, but the facts are absolutely not so."

"If all channels are blocked, if we are destined to be forced into silence, then music will be our only salvation."
