Chapter 234: Visitors from Asgard

~8 min read 1,525 words

"Oh, damn it, test that part again!" Thor stood up from the ground, kicked the tire, and a colleague beside him handed him a wrench; Thor crouched down and kept fiddling with the tire.

After much effort, he threw down the wrench and slapped the car roof: "Alright, this should be the last one today, right?"

"Hey! Benjamin! What's wrong? Someone! Someone come quick!! Benjamin's fainted!!!" A shout came from outside the workshop; Thor turned his head and saw one of his colleagues shouting outside, while another colleague named Benjamin lay collapsed on the ground.

Thor strode out and asked: "What happened? What's wrong with Benjamin?"

"Damn it! He seems to be having a heart attack! Call an ambulance right now!"

Colleagues rushed out; some began CPR on Benjamin, others pulled out their phones to call for an ambulance, and Thor joined in to help.

Not long after, the ambulance arrived; several nurses ran out and saw Benjamin lying on the ground. One female nurse said: "Give me a hand—let's get him on the stretcher first!"

Thor walked over and lifted Benjamin up by himself; the female nurse glanced at him, then pointed to the nearby stretcher: "Put him on it—hurry!"

When Thor returned from the hospital, the repair shop owner's face was grim; he said to Thor: "You saw it yourself—Benjamin collapsed on his own, right? It has nothing to do with my shop…"

Thor's expression darkened. "If you hadn't forced him to work night shifts for over ten straight nights, how could he have dropped dead?"

"What's it got to do with me!" the bearded boss shouted. "He was a pauper who ate nothing but junk food every day—of course his health was bad! He deserved to die, and now he's ruined my chances of finding a worker for tomorrow night!"

Thor stared at him, eyes blazing with fury like a lion; the boss was momentarily cowed, but quickly swung his fists again: "What are you staring at, you stupid ox! You'll be working nights too—do you know why? Because you're a dumb Texan with no brains, you can't even speak properly!"

"I'll tell them—if one day you drop dead on the ground, I'll make sure everyone stays far away from you!"

"Why do you have no sympathy for your own teammate?" Thor stood still, his voice low. "He's dead. Do you understand that?"

"Teammate? Idiot!" The shop owner spat. "He was just a black guy kicked out of the fighting ring, hiding in trash heaps eating leftovers. I gave him a job—that's more than he deserved. Now he's dead and messing up my night shift tomorrow. What a useless waste!"

"Vorstag, how are you here?" Thor rushed over and stopped the burly man from continuing to beat the shop owner. "Stop! Don't hit him! He's just a normal human!"

"But he insulted you! Thor, how could we stand by while you're humiliated?!"

"Enough!" Thor roared. "This is complicated—but first, explain to me: why are you all here?"

"Oh my god, it's Sif too!" Thor said, seeing the figure approaching from behind. "How long has it been since we last met?"

Sif walked up to Thor and said: "You've been fighting outside for years—probably centuries by now."

"Forget that—Vorstag? Fandral… and Hogun! How did you all get here?"

"Let's find a safe place to talk," Sif said calmly. "Where's your camp? We'll go there."

Thor scratched his head. "There is a camp… but you might not… well, I'm living with Loki now. I know—you two have a feud."

"Loki?" Sif's tone turned suddenly serious. "We're here to talk about Loki."

Thor glanced at the wall clock. "Loki probably hasn't finished work yet. We can go back—it shouldn't matter."

"Also, can you use your divine power to change your clothes? You can't ride the bus dressed like this."

"Bus? What's that?"

"It's the public carriage of Asgard."

"So what's wrong with dressing like this?"

Thor rubbed his temples, suddenly feeling the same baffling naivety he'd felt when he first arrived on Earth. He had no choice but to pull out his phone and call for help.

After a while, Steve and Hill arrived. Steve, seeing the four figures standing beside Thor who looked exactly like him, pressed his temples. "Please tell me—why are there four of these people here?!"

Hill, as a SHIELD agent, was used to the extraordinary. "Should I thank you? After smuggling your companions here, you even bother to notify Earth's natives?"

"I'm sorry—I didn't know they'd come," Thor said awkwardly. "Technically, we're not allowed to come to Earth at will."

Hill drove them all to Thor's apartment and said: "Remember to report to SHIELD tomorrow—or they'll be deported as illegal immigrants."

After unlocking the door and taking the elevator up, once inside the apartment, Thor's old friends began chattering excitedly: "Your place isn't bad—smaller than Asgard, but pretty novel."

"What's this? A sofa? Looks different from Asgard's."

"Humans develop too fast—what's this thing for? A lamp? Why is the switch so strange?"

Thor stood with his hands on his hips in the center of the room. "You've got to explain—why are you here?"

Sif sheathed her sword. "We're here to warn you—and to warn the people of Earth."

"Warn? What's happened?"

"Recently, Heimdall noticed Loki acting strangely—he's been frequently moving between Asgard's weapon storage and the Xiangong warehouse. Heimdall suspects Loki is targeting the Destroyer."

"The Destroyer…" Thor frowned. "You mean that giant robot in the Xiangong? What's it for?"

Hogun stepped forward. "It's a weapon—the former chariot of the Allfather. He rode it against many powerful enemies."

"But how does that connect to Loki and Earth? I don't get it…"

"We've always suspected Loki," Sif said heavily. "Thor, sometimes you're too naive. You're noble and kind—but that doesn't mean everyone is. We've long suspected that behind every incident you caused in Jotunheim, Loki was pulling the strings."

"We know you trust your brother. We didn't want to damage your bond, so we never told you directly. But during your exile, we've been watching Loki closely."

"We finally caught him red-handed!" Fandral said. "We have no authority to enter the Xiangong warehouse—but Heimdall, as Asgard's steward, does. He found Loki entering and leaving far too often. He never did this before."

"The Destroyer is the Allfather's weapon. But you know—he's been in a deep slumber lately. We suspect Loki is planning to tamper with it."

"Heimdall suspected the same, but he couldn't question an Asgardian prince. So he brought us into the Xiangong to monitor Loki."

"We discovered Loki is preparing a spatial portal—he intends to transport the Destroyer to Earth!"

"He wants to kill you, Thor," Sif stepped forward, her face grim. "He knows you've lost your divine power. Once this powerful Xiangong weapon is unleashed on Earth, you and all ordinary humans will be in danger."

"Impossible!" Thor immediately denied it. "Lately, we've gotten along fine. Why would he kill me? We're brothers."

Sif sighed, pressing her forehead. "But you're both princes. Asgard has only one throne. If he wants to become king, he must kill you."

"He wants to become king of Asgard?" Thor exclaimed. "Why would he want that?"

The others looked at Thor strangely. Thor blinked. "Oh, right… yeah, maybe he does want to be king. Everyone wants it—but he wouldn't… no, don't tell me this—Loki wouldn't do this…"

Sif sighed and patted Thor's shoulder. "We still don't want to break your bond with your brother. But the facts are clear. Even if you don't care for your own safety, think of Earth's countless ordinary people—if the Destroyer lands, they'll all be in danger."

Thor hesitated. Sif pressed further: "This isn't just about your safety—it's about protecting Earth. The Destroyer is an immensely powerful magical weapon. We have no confidence we can stop it. You must find a way to regain your divine power and your weapon."

Thor sighed. "I have no idea where my power is."

He turned, walked to the sofa, and slumped down. "Mjolnir is under SHIELD's surveillance. I tried to retrieve it before—but I couldn't lift it."

"Not just me—Loki and several SHIELD agents tried too. We all failed. The Allfather's seal on it is too strong. Neither strength nor magic can break it."

"And all the clues he left me—I still haven't figured them out. I asked Loki, but he wouldn't tell me."

"Of course he won't," Vorstag rumbled. "If you regain your power and weapon, what's left for him? He's waiting for you to be weak so he can kill you."

"Regardless…" Sif stepped beside Thor. "We stand with you. But you must rise. You are the future ruler of Asgard—the heir recognized by all Asgardians. It is your duty to protect all life in the Nine Realms—including Earth."

"Don't make us think that when danger draws near, you'll only run away, Thor."
