Chapter 2370
Bat-Bruce hung up the phone, turned his head, and said to Rachel, "The whole system is running very smoothly, and the revenue is quite impressive. At the very least, we won't have to worry about the next quarterly financial report."
Rachel opened her mouth, then closed it again. She crossed her arms, turned her head to the side, and said, "I'm a bit unsure now—is taking down Falcone really our top priority?"
"Relax." Bat-Bruce laughed, walked over, and gave Rachel a hug. "At the very least, our stress has been much lower lately, hasn't it? You should take a long vacation. It won't be too late to deal with those annoying criminals when you get back."
Rachel sighed and said, "Although I don't think this is a long-term solution, it's good to have a temporary reprieve. If you use this time to earn more money, you won't have to look at the board of directors' faces anymore."
"That's exactly what I'm thinking," Bat-Bruce replied. "If this plan can improve my financial situation, that would be great, but more importantly, this doesn't count as losing one's conscience for the sake of making money."
"Does it really not count at all?" Rachel had already begun to doubt herself. She said, "Regardless, trapping someone in an ambulance for two days and a night—doesn't that lack some humanitarian consideration?"
"But Harvey has already said it, hasn't he? This is completely legal." Bat-Bruce spread his hands and said, "I didn't hurt them; I just didn't take the initiative to help them. But at any time, if you don't help someone you dislike and believe shouldn't be helped, it cannot be called a lack of humanitarian spirit."
Rachel seemed unable to find better words to refute him, so she had to say, "What about that little girl from your distant relative's family? Do you need me to pick her up from school?"
"No need. Her family is coming to pick her up today. After that, I can focus more on my wealth-enhancement plan."
"Oh, what a pity." Rachel shook her head and said, "She's a cute little girl. I thought I'd be able to spend a few more days with her."
"Don't worry, she'll come over to play again in the future. I promise you she will." Bat-Bruce smiled as he saw Rachel off. Not long after, the nanny brought Aisha over.
Upon seeing Aisha, Bat-Bruce quickened his pace, bent down, ran toward her, and scooped her up. Aisha let out a cheer and kissed Bat-Bruce on the face.
"How was it? Did you have fun playing with the kids at kindergarten?"
"It was okay." Aisha smacked her lips and said, "It wasn't as fun as playing with you. It's a pity I have to leave so soon."
Bat-Bruce also kissed Aisha on the cheek and said, "I just promised Ms. Rachel that you would definitely come back to find her and play. You will, right?"
"Of course." Aisha cheered, then rolled those big blue eyes, looked at Bat-Bruce with a smile, and said, "You like her, right? Next time I come, I promise to help you win her over."
Bat-Bruce's eyes widened instantly. Just as he was about to refute, Aisha snorted coldly and said, "Forget it, you can't hide it from me. I can hear emotions."
"I'm becoming more and more curious about who your mother is." Bat-Bruce took the coat from the nanny's hand, helped Aisha put it on, and then said, "The person picking you up will be here in a while. Will you go back to school immediately?"
"No, I'm going on a business trip to other universes." Aisha seemed to have just learned the word "business trip." Her strange accent amused Bat-Bruce. He didn't take it seriously, thinking Bruce was going to take Aisha to play in other universes, so he tightened Aisha's coat and sent her toward the portal.
Aisha walked through the portal. As soon as she arrived at the office in the Battleworld, she let out a huge yawn. Harley rushed over, touched her head, and said, "You actually took a vacation for almost a month. It's so unfair; we are urged to do homework every day."
"What grade am I in?" Aisha rolled her eyes and said, "Your present is my future."
"You're speaking much more fluently." Barry said with some surprise, "Didn't you have trouble with grammar before?"
"Because they talk to me every day. I have to speak even if I don't want to." Aisha sighed and said, "It's hard to imagine a Batman who likes to talk so much."
Harley and Barry looked at each other and shrugged. Don't look at Bruce as being very young on the outside, looking lively and cheerful; that's only in comparison to other classic versions of Batman. In reality, he isn't a very talkative person either; he basically only says what is necessary.
"It should have been like this long ago." Barry said, "If you don't teach, you'll never learn. Although not being able to speak isn't a big problem, chatting is so much fun."
Aisha yawned again and said, "I have school today, and I got up too early. I'm going to sleep for a while. We'll set off when I wake up."
After Aisha left, Harley and Barry began to study the huge "Necronomicon" that Harley was holding. Barry said, "Are you sure this is reliable? Just for your commercial street construction plan, you're going to make a deal with an Evil God?"
"First of all, this isn't just for my commercial street construction plan. Secondly, that's not an Evil God. And this can't be considered a deal; at most, it's us giving him a little sweetness to taste first."
Barry curled his lips in disapproval. Harley then explained, "Look, we have a lot of money—I mean me and those idiots at Wei En Manor. Before the Gotham Music Festival, we jointly invested in many projects, all of which made a fortune, and they are still profitable to this day. You have a share in that too."
"Yes, that's a lot of money. Isn't that enough?"
"Of course it's not enough. Although we don't need to surpass Wei En, we still have to build our own career; we can't just lie on top of Wei En Enterprises and live off the past. But they have no such awareness, nor do they have any business sense, so I have to be the one to do it."
"And your business sense is to mutter to a book in the middle of the night about wanting to make a big fortune? Come on, didn't Professor Strange say that whoever responds to your excessive requests must be an Evil God?"
"But he also said that as long as you can beat the Evil God, you can press his head and make him help you fulfill your wishes."
"But the problem now is that we can't beat him."
"Who said that?" Harley's eyes rolled, her gaze rested on Barry's face, and she said, "I might not be able to beat him, but you and that bunch of people at Wei En Manor might not necessarily be the same. To put it bluntly, we have Batman and Professor Schiller backing us up."
"I still think it's a bit too radical." Barry frowned and said, "And what kind of good place could the universe the Evil God is sending you to be? And, and he didn't even say what he wanted you to do. This is very suspicious."
"So I don't intend to just go over there recklessly." Harley leaned toward Barry and said, "I once overheard a conversation between Constantine and Zatanna and know where the highest institution of the occult world is. It possesses almost all the occult data in human history. I think we can go there and take a look."
"You don't just want to take a look." Barry said, "You're eyeing Dr. Thorsip, but I must remind you, if you mess around in the College of All Souls, the consequences will be about the same as taking a dump on top of Kamar-Taj. We will be hunted down by the entire occult world."
"Why do you always assume I'll make trouble?"
"Because you just do." Barry said helplessly, "Every plan you've taken me on has had no good outcomes."
Harley wasn't happy about this. She put her hands on her hips and said, "Then let me ask you, isn't your ability becoming more and more proficient?"
"Proficient doesn't count, maybe a little better than before."
"Then aren't you becoming more and more able to control the kind of dark power combined with the Speed Force?"
"I can't fully control it either, I just don't lose control as easily."
"Then aren't you becoming richer and richer?"
"That is true. My parents were stunned when they saw my account. They even thought I had become Wei En's adopted son."
"Then aren't your studies getting better and better?"
"I'll say it again, although you tutored me in grammar, it's also because I stayed up all night memorizing books that I was able to get such good grades."
"Look, everything about you is getting better, yet you actually say I'm taking you to make trouble. You might as well say that those idiots at Wei En Manor are the ones purely messing around."
Barry was speechless, so he said, "Fine, I'll take you to Oxford. I should be able to find that doctor too, but you must promise me..."
"I know, polite wording, standard behavior. Let's go quickly."
Barry took Harley to Oxfordshire in almost an instant. They entered Oxford University and wandered around the College of All Souls. At first, it was just a normal walk. Finding no clues there, Barry wanted to use the Speed Force to take Harley away.
But as soon as he entered the Speed Force, Barry saw many blurred fragments, and the Flash's innate keenness for time made him realize that it wasn't that there were no clues, but that the clues were hidden deep in time.
Barry soon found the entry node. The figures of the two flashed, and they fell onto the floor of the study.
Harley covered her head, which had just been bumped, and let out a cry of pain. Just as she was about to complain about why Barry's landing was so rough this time, her gaze was attracted by the scene inside the study.
"Wow, this looks like the office of that kind of medieval evil alchemist."
"I am not an evil alchemist, miss." A gentle voice came from behind, giving Harley a fright.
The moment Harley turned her head, she saw a man with black hair and brown eyes. She was instantly attracted by those eyes.
"Uh, sorry, sir." Barry's voice came from behind. "I mean, Dr. Thorsip, we wanted to come to you to find some information."
Barry signaled Harley with his eyes to take out that book, but Harley just stared straight at Thorsip, as if she wanted to find something on his face.
"No, we're fine." Harley suddenly shook her head and said, "We just heard Constantine mention you, so we came over to take a look."
"Look at what?"
"Nothing, just heard that the rumors about you were quite mysterious, so we came to see for ourselves." Harley took two steps back, her hand behind her back gently tugging at Barry's arm twice.
This was the secret signal they had agreed upon long ago. Barry stepped forward immediately, but before he could enter the Speed Force, a thick fog swirled around the two of them.
"You really are..."
"Shh..."
They saw the man standing in the thick fog make a gesture. Soon the fog dissipated. Harley stared at Thorsip's face like a cautious wolf.
"You really are his believer." Harley took a deep breath and said, "What do you want to do? Kill us?"
"Of course not. The deal between you and him has been completed, so go do what you should do."
Barry was confused. He turned his head to look at Harley, and Harley lowered her voice and said, "He is a believer of the Nameless Mist."
"Is that the Evil God you made the deal with?"
"Shh—!"
Barry immediately realized he had made a slip of the tongue. He looked at Thorsip, but found that the man was still looking at them with a smile.
But he didn't tell us what to do at all. Barry still voiced his confusion, "Just letting us stay in a universe, what's the point of this?"
"Then just go." Thorsip said, "Sometimes, having no meaning isn't necessarily a bad thing. If there is no goal, it cannot be called a plan, and naturally, there is no way to counter it. Go."
