Chapter 2752: Star Core Rescue (Part 49)

~10 min read 1,979 words

Sitting behind the desk, Nick, who was waiting for news with his face supported by his hand, looked at Peter who was busy in front, his nose wasn't like a nose, his eyes weren't like eyes, and looking at Schiller sitting next to him was even more like looking at a human trafficker.

Schiller didn't pay attention to him, but asked when Peter paused slightly: "How is it, Peter? Are there any results from the examination of the corpses?"

Peter paused his steps, then shook his head and said: "There is no problem for the time being, but to conduct genetic analysis, professional equipment is needed."

"What equipment do you need? I can have people transfer it over." Nick said: "I have almost all the professional equipment you can find here."

"I mean, even with professional equipment, it might not be possible to find the problem. Human bodies are much more complex than you think."

Peter pushed his glasses and said: "As everyone knows, there are many unreasonable places in the human body, and there are many redundant parts. But these things didn't appear out of thin air, which means that in some period of human evolution, these things might have been useful."

"But precisely because human evolution is too fast, many parts haven't had time to be completely eliminated, and genes haven't been screened, so they have been kept in the human body, constituting the incomparably complex genetic system today."

"To put it in layman's terms, human genes are shit-mountain code." Peter shook his head and said: "This plagues all geneticists in the world. Even experts like Dr. Connors don't dare to say they can fully understand human genes."

"So, if someone does something in the genes, the probability of perfectly finding it out is very small." Peter gave a pessimistic conclusion and said: "We can only guess the approximate attributes and location of this gene by the way genes change the spiritual body, and then infer the identity of the mastermind through the possible traces of implantation."

"Do you mean we can't remove this gene?" Nick asked.

"The problem of mutants has existed for so long, why haven't I seen anyone who can remove the X-gene?" Peter asked back: "Although genes are complex, their collaborative relationship and tightness are very subtle. It is more likely that even if the X-gene is removed, the mutant's ability will not disappear, because the X-gene has fundamentally changed their other genes. They have become a whole system. Removing only one segment is useless."

"So now our purpose is just to investigate clues and find the mastermind?" Schiller asked.

"That's what I think." Peter nodded and confirmed. 【2

Shiler sighed and said, "Actually, you don't need to investigate him. I know who he is, but it's almost impossible for us to catch him, let alone make him hand over the antidote."

Peter frowned deeply. He knew Shiler wouldn't exaggerate, but he still couldn't help asking, "Even you can't do it? Doctor?"

"If I could, I would certainly do it for Gwen and you, but in fact, even if I could achieve that, it would take a very long time. It's better to use the most effective method and simply reboot you both."

Peter turned his head away and said, "I'd rather use death-reboot as a last resort, because for a normal person, whether it's enduring death or inflicting it, it's painful and terrifying."

"If you can research a way, that would of course be best, but if not, I'm afraid you'll have to face this cruel reality. But I believe that neither you nor Gwen will be defeated so easily."

"Of course, Doctor, I'm ready," Peter said. "Although I don't really want to ask this, I still want to know, the mastermind will pay the price, right?"

"That is a very special existence." Shiler finally began to reveal a bit of information. He said, "Any blow you deal him will not be viewed by him as harm; it might even make him feel quite smug."

"Even you?"

"Even me." Shiler smiled, seemingly not taking it to heart. He said, "As long as you take action against him, he can dodge it and counterattack. And after the counterattack, he will appear and use a long-winded speech to mock you. This is a rule that cannot be broken; it is written into his underlying logic."

"Inevitably dodge and counterattack? What kind of absurd rule is that?" Nick said. "Does this have even a little bit of internal logic? Why?"

"There is no logic, and there is no 'why.' It just exists like that."

"In that case, no one can deal with him." Peter said, "But he still doesn't feel angry or panicked, because he knows that if Shiler has this attitude now, he must have already thought of a way."

"Actually, it's simple to deal with him." Shiler continued, unhurriedly, "Just don't take action against him."

"But he has already taken action against us now." Nick raised his voice and said, "Does our counterattack also have to follow this rule?"

"Unfortunately, yes. So his way of dealing with others is to go stir up trouble first, disgust them, and when they counterattack, he strikes back and mocks them."

Nick couldn't help but dry-heave.

Peter, however, seemed to have grasped the point. He said, "But if he provokes us and we don't counterattack, wouldn't the rule fail to trigger?"

"Yes, but his provocations are endless, until everything is destroyed by him, until everyone collapses, or even until the universe completely collapses."

"How can such an existence exist?" Peter asked, genuinely puzzled. He said, "Is God crazy?"

"Maybe someone is crazy, but it's certainly not God." Shiler tapped the table lightly, drawing both their attention back, and said, "We cannot take hardline measures to counterattack. Even this reboot that disrupts his scheme might be anticipated and disrupted again by him. Perhaps he will do just that very soon."

"Then what do we do?"

"We won't counterattack that way, but that doesn't mean we won't counterattack." Shiler sighed lightly and said, "This guy's existence has a fatal weakness."

"What is it?"

"He has intelligence." Shiler said, "He is not a purely rule-based natural disaster. He was designed as a character, a character who seems to have his own personality."

"But he possesses this rule-based power, which is almost impossible to resist." Peter said, "Even if you use the weaknesses of his personality to make countermeasures, it's possible he could anticipate them, isn't it?"

"Yes, so we won't make countermeasures." Shiler said, "We won't even take any measures that might disrupt his plans or cause harm to him personally."

"Doesn't that just mean letting him off the hook?!" Nick raised his voice and said, "Can you just get to the point!"

"We just disgust him." Shiler finally revealed a smile. He said, "In the real world, we lie flat and don't resist at all, but that doesn't mean we can't disgust him."

Nick was stunned for a moment, as if he had suddenly realized something, and he also revealed an expression of understanding. He said, "I get it. He is a person, so he must have his own likes and dislikes. We can't destroy his plans, and we can't even protect ourselves, but we can disgust him, make him voluntarily abandon his plans, and run away himself."

"You might be doing it to make him abandon his plans; I'm just doing it to disgust him a little." Shiler said, "No, not just disgust him a little, but make him lose his composure, disgust him so much that he never wants to come here again."

"Looks like you have a plan." Nick finally relaxed, leaned back in his chair, and said, "You damn bad seed, you really waited until this day."

Shiler didn't care about Nick's choice of words at all; instead, he deliberately revealed a neurotic, evil smile, watching with satisfaction as Nick shivered.

Shiler placed a videotape on the table.

"What is this?" Nick asked.

"A movie. It might be a little long, with some documentary qualities, but overall, it's still a movie."

"A movie? About what?" Peter was a bit curious. He pulled up a chair, sat down, and asked, "Is it a superhero movie?"

"No, it's not even a story." Shiler said, "I just fully restored what certain people did."

Nick and Peter looked at each other, not knowing what Shiler was up to.

"So what do you want us to do?" Nick asked.

Shiler turned to look at Nick and said, "I need you to use the Time Variance Authority to help me find a special existence."

"Who?"

"A special Iron Man."

In the Time Variance Authority office, Mobius's desk was still piled with a huge stack of books and files. He was burying his head in work that he could never finish.

Two dark shadows appeared before him. As soon as Mobius looked up, he saw Nick's dark face. He had no choice but to sit up straight, stretch, and say, "How come you have time to come over at this hour? Director?"

"Of course, there's serious business." Nick said, "I shouldn't need to introduce this person; Dr. Shiler. He hopes to retrieve a file and travel to that universe through the Time Variance Authority's channels."

Mobius was slightly puzzled, but he was a standard worker; when the boss gave an order, he never asked too many questions. So he took out a large bunch of keys and said, "Please come with me, Doctor. The archives are this way."

"No need to rummage through the archives." Shiler said, "The person I'm looking for is very famous in the universe. I even suspect that some of your employees have seen him. Even if they haven't seen him in person, they should have seen some of his creations."

"Who is that?"

"Machine Overlord Iron Man."

Yin Yin Lisha had a dream.

In the dream, she heard a gentle voice that kept telling her not to be afraid. She thought it was Aux, who was sleeping by her bedside, but listening carefully, it didn't sound like her husband.

Yin Yin Lisha kept chasing that voice until she finally perceived her own existence in the spirit world. She couldn't tell if this was a dream or reality, or if it was both.

A little bit of light appeared before her.

Soon, the light condensed into a human shape, but it was hazy and blurred. It was a little girl, and the little girl opened her arms toward Yin Yin Lisha.

For some reason, Yin Yin Lisha just felt that this was her daughter, the tiny life still inside her body.

"Mommy... Mommy..."

She kept calling out like that. Yin Yin Lisha gently stroked her hair, full of love and joy.

Another figure appeared behind the little girl.

"You are a good mother." A neutral voice rang out. Yin Yin Lisha looked up and saw a tall figure floating behind the little girl. His body was half black and half white, his face firm, but his voice was very gentle.

"Who are you?"

"I am the mediator between Chaos and Order." The figure replied, "I have come to watch over the child in your womb to ensure she is not affected by nightmares."

"I'm afraid you can't do that, Mediator." Another voice rang out. Yin Yin Lisha looked in the direction the voice came from, but she couldn't see anything, and the black-and-white figure suddenly disappeared.

Yin Yin Lisha woke up from the bed with a start.

Aux was also startled awake by her and hurriedly sat up. Yin Yin Lisha seemed to realize something was wrong; she pressed Aux's hand and said, "Call Dr. Shiler."

"What's wrong? Honey?"

"I had a very strange dream." Yin Yin Lisha frowned, then said, "Hurry, Aux, I must protect our child."
