Chapter 3018

~10 min read 1,986 words

Schiller was writing a lesson plan at his desk in the office.

The room was so bright that he felt a bit uncomfortable, so he had the smart butler dim the lights. Just as the lights were dimmed, the door was opened. Oliver closed the door gently, and upon turning his head, he said with some surprise, "So you're awake. Seeing the lights so dim, I thought you had fallen asleep."

"Can't you see clearly? Then you can turn them up."

"No need. It's just, don't your eyes feel uncomfortable reading in such dim light?"

"I possess the vision of a snake now; simply put, I have no vision," Schiller said, pushing up his glasses. "The pair of glasses Brandt customized is too small, and I'm too lazy to go find him again."

"So you can't see anything now? Then how do you teach?"

"This kind of basic course doesn't necessarily require eyes to teach," Schiller sighed softly. "However, I still haven't left them any written assignments, which can minimize the time spent grading papers."

"But this isn't a solution, is it?" Oliver leaned in with great concern. "Isn't there some kind of flower that can alleviate this symptom? Have you been taking it on time?"

"No. I'm trying to find a way to strengthen the connection with the witch; the best method is to let the curse continue to recover."

"This is definitely not a good idea," Oliver said. "You'd better list the advantages of the cursed state for me, otherwise I'm going to find the others right now."

Schiller smiled and said, "I say I can smell emotions now, do you believe me?"

"Smell emotions?" Oliver asked with some confusion. "Do emotions have a scent?"

"I just found out too," Schiller said, tapping the desk with his pen. "The sense of smell in snakes is very sensitive; they almost live by it. Applied to me, it seems to have combined with my psychoanalytic talent."

"You mean you can smell what others are thinking?"

"Not that powerful, but I really can smell the scent of intense emotions. Take you, for example: you feel excited and ambitious, but there is also some anxiety—the scent of anxiety is very pungent. It seems it's been a while."

"You don't need a sense of smell to see that, right? You can't fool me."

"You're in love," Schiller said with certainty. "At least you are now genuinely and truly liking someone of the opposite sex. You spoke on the phone two hours ago, and you felt very happy."

Oliver straightened up somewhat unnaturally, his face flushing a bit. Fortunately, the lights were dim.

"Don't tell anyone about this," Oliver said, sitting at his own desk. "The age gap between Dinah and me is a bit large, but she has been pursuing me crazily, and it's really hard for me to avoid..."

"Age is not the problem. What you are struggling with is that you two have a relationship somewhat similar to teacher and student, which makes you feel like you are violating morality."

Oliver sighed deeply and said, "I'm worried that some of her pursuit behaviors might make others think she is frivolous, but I know she isn't that kind of person. I don't want her to be misunderstood."

"Then you go pursue her, and then the one being misunderstood will be you."

Oliver was choked for words, but after a while, he asked somewhat sneakily, "You smelled that I like her? Really? That kind of liking between a man and a woman?"

"I can only say that your hormone secretion is somewhat abnormal. If teaching work can make you secrete hormones, then I suggest you go see a doctor," Schiller said in a flat tone, not sounding like he was joking at all.

"You're starting with your teacher's cold jokes again," Oliver said, supporting his head with one hand and tapping the desk with the other. "Before, I felt the situation I was facing was too dangerous and I had no time to consider these things, but now that I'm idle, I miss that kind of life a bit."

"Perhaps adventuring with your lover is also a good choice," Schiller finished the second half of the sentence for him. He said, "You don't have anything that needs healing; you just want to change your way of life."

"Do you think I'm suited for that kind of life?"

"What do you mean? A duo adventure?"

"Just like normal people—getting married, having children, and living a calm and peaceful life."

"You are good at creating such a life for others, but you are an adventurer by nature. I don't think you could live together with someone of the opposite sex who pursues a plain life."

"So I still have to find an adventurer, right?"

"Miss Black Canary is indeed full of adventurous spirit."

"Oh, how did you figure that out?"

"She sent me an email asking if I knew your clothing size; she wants to customize a suit for you."

Oliver slapped his forehead and said, "You didn't tell her, did you?"

"No, and I told her that you aren't the pauper she imagines, but a rich young master. She was very surprised."

"Wait a minute, when did she send you that email?"

"Three days ago."

"Her pursuit behavior started becoming more and more proactive three days ago," Oliver said, somewhat puzzled. "But I don't think she's the type of person who loves money. Why would this happen?"

"A pauper who can't survive ends up in Mexico and has to organize a revolutionary army for survival, versus a young master who has everything he needs and voluntarily abandons everything he has to throw himself into the revolutionary cause—which do you think is more attractive?"

"Uh, I think the former actually isn't a problem either."

"But in her eyes, it's not like that. Obviously, this internationalist spirit of yours has deeply impressed her."

Oliver wailed and said, "You must have done it on purpose. You shouldn't have told her that. Our family's company actually declined long ago."

"Whose company hasn't declined nowadays?"

Oliver was speechless. The Queen Group was indeed not doing well, but with the current economic crisis, no one's group was doing very well. The Queen Group was at least a local power, and a lean camel is still bigger than a horse; it's hard to say whose life is worse.

"Do you think I should try to accept her pursuit?"

Schiller thought about it seriously and then said, "I think you should take this opportunity to let her join the ranks of the young cadets."

"No, no, no," Oliver said. "This is absolutely impossible. Then she would really become my student..."

After saying this, Oliver felt awkward himself.

If he really didn't like her, why wouldn't he want her to become his student?

"How is the military class going?" Schiller asked again.

"Not bad. These kids are very talented," Oliver said, becoming happy again. "Yesterday we did a simple war game simulation, and many performed quite well. I plan to organize a larger one tomorrow."

"They all like your class very much," Schiller said. "It's both interesting and fulfilling, much better than just reading from a script."

Oliver opened his mouth. He had actually heard some students complain that the psychology class was a bit dry, but in the end, he still spoke up: "If you're not feeling well, just take a rest. Anyway, the basic courses are just memorizing this and that; it's not worth you spending so much energy."

"I can't rest," Schiller said, pushing up his glasses. "If I fall asleep, I won't be able to see the fun."

Hearing the playfulness in Schiller's tone, Oliver became interested again. He leaned forward, close to the partition, and said, "What fun is there again? Tell me about it."

"You must have seen quite a few Batmen in the Multiverse, right? Do you know what their common attribute is?"

"What? They don't like to laugh? They're very smart?"

"Neither. They especially love to adopt smart children."

Oliver thought about it and realized it was true, then he reacted and said, "You mean Bruce wants to adopt a child again? But then again, the boys he raised have all grown up. The other day I saw Jason and almost didn't recognize him. Good guy, I thought I had run into a wall."

"Yes, mainly because he met a quite smart little girl."

"Who is it?"

"Janna. Do you remember her?"

"Oh, I know. The younger sister in that pair of siblings, right? Her brother has great leadership ability; he organized over twenty people in the war game simulation without any chaos. The younger sister has many clever ideas; she pulled off a flanking surprise attack and beat the other side to a pulp."

"She is very talented at everything she does. Clark and Diana have also given her high praise. Do you think Bruce would let such a person go?"

"But she's an alien," Oliver seemed to mind this. "Even if I think she's really not bad, Bruce seems to be a human supremacist."

"Not that extreme, otherwise he wouldn't have a good relationship with Clark."

"Clark is different. He grew up on Earth and is more human than humans, but these two siblings came to Earth halfway through. Is Bruce really at ease with them living in Wayne Manor?"

"But he is indeed short of people right now. If he doesn't cultivate a good helper for Gordon, Gordon would love to take a rocket to Mercury to drag him back."

"Alright, it seems there are still many problems to solve in Gotham. Do you think there will be any fun in this?"

Schiller laughed and said, "Janna is very smart, but unfortunately, not smart in the right way. What she is good at is exactly what Bruce is least good at."

"What do you mean?"

"Psychoanalysis. This girl is a psychoanalytic genius. Her accuracy in peak state can even rival my pathology, but behavioral analysis, well..."

After listening for a long time, Oliver shook his head helplessly and said, "I really can't evaluate you two, master and apprentice. You are good at psychoanalysis, he is good at behavioral analysis, and the apprentice he favors is good at psychoanalysis. Can't you just skip Bruce?"

"Then there wouldn't be any fun, would there?" Schiller snorted coldly and said, "Anyway, I have a curse on me now, and even normal teaching is difficult. No one can force a student on me. If he wants to get a genius detective, he can only work hard himself."

Oliver seemed to have foreseen Bruce's miserable state and sighed with some sympathy, but it was clear he was more interested in the fun itself. He quickly said, "According to you, Janna should also be able to learn behavioral analysis. For geniuses like them, it shouldn't be difficult."

"Whether it's difficult is one thing, whether they will do it is another," Schiller stopped his movements and said. "Behavioral analysis is like solving problems step-by-step; psychoanalysis is more like flipping to the last page to peek at the answer. If it were you, which would you choose?"

"Hmm... although I think I should answer the former, if it's not for learning but just to get an answer to uphold justice, then everyone would choose the latter, right? Not many people can resist not peeking."

Thinking of this, Oliver also laughed twice and said, "Now Bruce is in trouble. For a genius who can flip to the answer anytime, anywhere, making them focus on the problem itself is too difficult."

"Exactly." Schiller found a kindred spirit who could share the fun and finally got some energy. He stood up to pour himself a drink, placed Oliver's glass in front of him, and then said.

"He can finally experience for himself what it means to cast pearls before swine."
