Chapter 3043
There was no moonlight, the night sky outside the window was pitch black, with thick clouds and thin mist, and a storm was coming.
The lonely ghost stood in front of the mirror. He was pale and dressed for the occasion, with no weapons other than a pair of pale, strong hands.
In the mirror, there were only fine, scale-like patterns on his jaw.
Black gloves covered his fingertips, and the other hand was pulling the edge of the glove, letting the tight leather flow smoothly down his palm until it stopped at the edge of his hand.
The other hand grasped the tie knot, adjusted the position of the tie, reached out to the side, picked up a fountain pen, thumbed the cap tight, and put it into his suit pocket.
The gunfish brooch was straightened, the shirt cufflinks were fastened, and the suit hem was straightened.
His gaze swept over the shiny leather shoes, the heels lifted and then put down, paused slightly, and he strode out, leaving only the dull echo of heels hitting the floor in the room.
Schiller walked through the corridor.
The footsteps were extremely rhythmic, a pair of terrified eyes were wandering under the door crack, and golden hair hung by her ears.
She saw the heels of the leather shoes stop in front of this door, one foot stepped to the side, and then rotated over.
The toe of the shoe was like the dark muzzle of a gun.
A hand with jewelry rings covered her mouth.
Thump, thump, thump...
The knocking on the door was like thunder in the middle of the night.
The crisp footsteps of high heels became chaotic, like a sudden rainstorm, and a gale blew outside the window.
"Ah!!!"
Gordon on the second floor hurried downstairs. Barbara was raising her arms to block the gale blowing in from outside, and the window was constantly flapping against the wall.
"God! I just wanted to remind you to stay away from the window!" Gordon hurriedly rushed up to hug his wife, went to the bathroom next door to get a towel, and wiped the water off her face.
"This typhoon came so suddenly." Barbara gathered her hair and said, "I thought I could lock the window before the heavy rain, but the window was still pushed open."
"After the typhoon passes, we'll change to casement windows." Gordon promised her, then he grabbed the edge of the window hard, pushed it outward with force, and with a click, the window was finally closed.
The wind and rain were isolated outside, and the interior of the manor became warm again. The crying wind and howling rain outside couldn't affect this place at all. Only the firewood in the fireplace crackled, and the firelight and shadows danced on the wall.
Barbara just breathed a sigh of relief when loud crying came from the living room again. Gordon went to boil hot tea while saying, "It seems our little Jenny is awake again. Fortunately, there is a typhoon tonight, so I can accompany you..."
Ring-a-ling! Ring-a-ling!
Gordon gently put down the teapot, walked over, and answered the phone. There was great noise on the other end, and only faint human voices could be heard.
To avoid waking his daughter, Gordon had to reach out to block both his mouth and the microphone, listening to the narration on the other side, and his eyes slowly widened.
The beams of the car lights pierced through the rain curtain, and the red and blue lights overlapped on the crumbling walls in the wind and rain. Gordon slowly stepped on the brakes and rushed into the police booth in a raincoat.
Standing here, he looked back in the direction his subordinate pointed.
On the flagpole on the roof of the tallest mansion on the banks of the Cat Getan River, the slender flag kept dancing in the storm, appearing crumbling and exceptionally tenacious and unyielding under the attack of the wind and rain.
Gordon, however, felt as if he had been doused with a basin of ice water from head to toe, and the blood all over his body cooled down.
The bifurcated ends of the flag were shining, like a lighthouse pointing the way for sailors in a storm.
But those were two diamond-encrusted high heels.
That wasn't a flag, but a woman.
The originally bright and glaring yellow warning tape also appeared a bit dim in the terrible typhoon and was blown to the ground. But no one had the time to pick them up, because no one would be gathered outside the warning tape in such weather, and jackal-like reporters wouldn't either.
The two police officers guarding the door were both wearing thick raincoats and holding umbrellas, huddled under the eaves. A string of wet footprints at the door showed that a large group of police had just rushed in.
Gordon didn't even have time to take off his raincoat before rushing into the mansion. A group of people in evening gowns were squatting in the corner, and Gordon didn't look at them, running up the stairs in a hurry.
Arriving at the top floor of the mansion, Gordon pushed open the door to the rooftop, but was instantly blinded by the rain blowing in.
He used his hand to block his eyes, struggled against the wind to walk out, and finally arrived at the base of the flagpole.
When he looked up, the woman fluttering on the flagpole happened to be facing downward, looking at him with hollow eyes.
Gordon's heart skipped a beat.
But then he hurriedly waved his subordinates over, used tools to cut the flagpole, dragged it back indoors, and untied the rope tied to the woman's hair.
The forensic doctors who had just arrived took off their raincoats and saw the blood washed down by the rain mixing with the mud under the police officers' feet. The tile floor suddenly turned into a volcanic crater, and black and red lava poured down, roaring.
The corpse was placed in the middle of the floor.
But there was no corpse; this was just a skin bag. The upper part of the head skin had been removed, and the skin in other places had been sutured. When it was hung on the flagpole, the wind blew in from the hole in the head, supporting the limbs that had lost the support of bones, muscles, and internal organs, as if it were alive.
The forensic doctors found many sutures.
The suturing technique wasn't exquisite, but it was very tight, ensuring that air couldn't pass through and the skin could be perfectly stretched.
Gordon received the victim's information: Cat Getan City Council member, City Planning Bureau's Ivana Tarosta, female, 43 years old, mother of one son and one daughter, husband died a few years ago.
The first one, this thought instinctively flashed through Gordon's mind. His intuition wasn't always accurate, but without exception, there should be a second one, a third one.
Gordon received another phone call.
The same flag appeared on the top of the Cat Getan Cathedral.
Hoxon Faloneck, Cat Getan City Council member, City Government Economic and Financial Consultant, male, 49 years old, had an only son, ex-wife divorced him and had already gone to Europe.
When Gordon arrived, the corpse had already been taken down. The former only old priest Daniel had retired, and the new priest appeared terrified and had been hiding in the prayer room.
There was no useful information. He was keeping vigil, and when he entered the door, he thought it was a newly replaced flag, until blood flowed down the flagpole and dripped from the eaves. Red rain had been falling outside the window all night.
In the town hit by the typhoon, the night came earlier than ever, with wind and rain, cold and freezing.
Gordon stood in front of the church door, watching them lift the corpse onto the car. Without the interference of irrelevant personnel, the work proceeded very smoothly, without the slightest noise, only the howling gale in his ears.
Returning to the police station, Gordon didn't take off his raincoat. He knew the third piece of bad news would arrive soon, just silently praying in his heart that it wouldn't be a name he was familiar with.
Wei En Enterprises raised the flag.
When Gordon arrived at the roof of Wei En Tower, a person in a black raincoat was dragging a corpse toward the rooftop door.
In the heavy rain, the hood of the raincoat was taken off, and Gordon saw Tim's face, so he shouted in that direction.
"Is that you? Tim?!"
"If you mean the murderer, it's not me! I just didn't want his blood to be blown everywhere; no one cleans the rooftop for me!"
Gordon had no choice but to walk up and help Tim drag the corpse indoors. They were in a mess, and the fishy smell of rain and the smell of blood mixed together, which was simply suffocating.
"Do you know what's going on?" Gordon asked with his loud voice, as if he were still in the typhoon.
"I don't know!" Tim also replied: "No clue. It seems we were just unlucky enough to become a dumping ground for a serial killer."
Gordon lowered his head to look at the corpse.
When he saw that face, he was stunned, and then he quickly took out his phone and shouted at the other end.
"Send someone over immediately! The third victim is the fugitive Circe!"
In the dim light of the rooftop warehouse, the head that had been shaved in half lost the support of air, and the face stuck to the skin of the back of the head, shriveled, could vaguely see the beautiful face before death, evil and beautiful. It was exactly the fugitive witch Circe who had given the Cat Getan Police Department a headache before.
The holographic projection screen flickered with cold light. Bruce turned his head and said to the others who were still intently looking at the face of the corpse.
"We overlooked one point."
"Yes," Diana said, "The tragedy doesn't necessarily have to happen on Mercury."
Everyone sighed helplessly.
Clark turned his head to look at Lila next to him and said, "Is this the tragedy in your prophecy?"
"I can't be sure," Lila shook her head and said, "But I really can't predict where the tragedy happened."
Oliver breathed a sigh of relief and said, "It's best that it's not the students who are in trouble, but the preparations we made can also be used to prevent future problems, so it's not in vain."
"Of course we are not regretting this," Clark said, "The key is that this doesn't mean Mercury is safe. We can't leave; otherwise, it's possible for someone to take advantage of the situation."
"If the one who died is really Circe, then who is the one who has been sabotaging on Mercury?" Diana frowned and muttered to herself, "Schiller and I both believe that the mastermind behind the series of events starting from the Bonu attack case is now in the Mercury base."
After saying this, she took out the purple cube attached to the Blue Beetle's body and said, "The power inside is almost exactly the same as Circe's. If it's not her, who else could it be?"
"There are two situations now," Bruce said. "The one who died is the real Circe, and the mastermind in the base is fake; the one who died is the fake Circe, and her true body is hiding on the ship."
"It's getting more and more chaotic." Diana sighed, covering her forehead.
Bruce shook his head and said, "Nothing is chaotic."
"If it's the former, then Circe fell into a trap," Bruce sat down again, looking at the lifeless face on the holographic projection and said, "The series of events planned by the mastermind in the base made us put all our energy into Mercury, and we had no time to take care of Earth. The mastermind could take this opportunity to get rid of Circe."
"Would we stop him if we were on Earth?"
"No, but that would expose him. If we, Circe, and the mastermind all stayed on Earth, and we were also paying attention to Circe, he would definitely attract our attention if he wanted to make a move to kill Circe."
Bruce continued to infer, "And if it's the latter, Circe faked the news of her death, then I'm afraid she wants us to return to Earth to confirm whether she is really dead. By then, there might be a bigger mess on Mercury."
