Chapter 3055: The Mercury Record (52)
Dick and the others saw a gust of wind suddenly blow up among the flame particles on the outer edge of the sun, which then stirred up several whirlpools. From their form, they looked a bit like portals.
Immediately after, warhorses draped in flames rushed out, pulling a huge carriage behind them. The patterns of the sun began to gradually become more complex and profound.
"That should be the entrance to the realm of light, right?" The group looked at the whirlpool portals that hadn't dissipated yet in the room at the Mercury base.
"Who dares to go over?" Jason said. "That's the sun! If we just fly over like that, wouldn't we be burned to ashes?"
"Of course we can't just go over like that," Raven said. "I will protect you with magic, but we still have to be careful. Those horses don't look like they have very good tempers..."
Seeing that the portal was about to dissipate, Raven hurriedly covered the group's bodies with magic and flew them over. After getting a little closer, they realized that the portal, which looked small from a distance, was actually a boundless behemoth.
And the outline of the entire realm of light loomed within the sun. It was an arc of light close to a ring, much brighter than other parts of the sun. If it weren't for the magic protecting their eyes, I'm afraid their eyes would have been burned out after just one look.
During the process of passing through the portal, Dick said, "I always feel it's a bit strange. Why open the portal to one's own territory in the sun?"
"Maybe it's for defense," Jason said. "If you don't use magic, you can't enter at all. This way, you can prevent ordinary people from accidentally entering."
This explanation barely made sense, and Dick didn't ask anything else. After passing through the portal, the scorching heat and dazzling light of the sun completely disappeared, and they appeared on the shore of a large lake.
After their eyes gradually adapted to the light, Dick looked left and right and found that this was a lush hill, beautiful and natural. It didn't look like a place where a God of Light would live.
They walked up the hill along the riverbank. When they reached the top of the mountain, they saw the temple in the distance. Dick rubbed his chin and said, "Faust said Apollo has a very good temper. He might be lying, tricking us into provoking him. But looking at it like this, Apollo shouldn't be a very cruel god."
"In mythological legends, Apollo has also been praised by many," Jason continued his words. "Besides praising him for being handsome, most people praise him for being kind, melancholic, and full of artistic flair. Such a person shouldn't be the type to take action without a word."
Dick felt the same, so they reached a consensus and began to head toward the temple. The style of ancient Greek temples was similar. The Temple of Light where Apollo lived was slightly smaller than the Pantheon, but the sculptures were more exquisite, and there was even faint music coming from it.
Dick and Jason walked in. Just as they stepped into it, they saw a handsome man in a white robe playing a harp. The music was coming from the harp in his hands.
Discovering the intruders, he seemed very surprised. His movements stopped, and he blinked at Dick and the others.
Dick and Jason swore that the man in front of them was the most handsome person they had ever seen, even far more handsome than Superman.
"Um, hello. We are the Young Avengers team, following the disaster of Mount Olympus. We want to know what exactly is going on."
"Zeus above, you are humans?!" The man put down the harp, looked at them, and said, "How did you find this place?"
"We entered the gate of the Underworld, saw the murdered Hades, and then passed through the Underworld to Mount Olympus and saw Ares's corpse. We guessed that the gods might have come to your realm..."
Hearing the news of Hades's and Ares's deaths, the man in front of them appeared very sad, but he still nodded and said, "Yes, the King of Gods and the gods are currently in the realm of light."
"So you are Apollo?"
"That's right. I didn't expect any humans to recognize me. I haven't been to Earth for a while."
"Earth? You mean Earth? Not the human realm?"
"Yes, Earth. What's wrong?" Apollo was stunned for a moment, then revealed a gentle smile and said, "Don't look at me like that. I'm not that ignorant. You have only stepped into modern society for a few hundred years and know that there is a planet under your feet. How could I not know?"
After speaking, Apollo revealed a look of nostalgia and said, "I lived on Earth for a long time and had quite a few human friends. But your lifespans are too short. They should all have passed away by now."
"Ah, wait," Apollo seemed to have remembered something happy. He said, "It's not all like that. Just a few days ago, my best human friend came back to see me. We drank and sang together, and Hermes even helped him send a few letters to Earth..."
Dick and Jason felt relieved by Apollo's friendly attitude, but they clearly didn't have time for small talk. Dick said, "We want to know the ins and outs of this matter. Do you have any clues?"
Apollo lowered his head to think for a moment, shook his head, and said, "I have been guarding the realm of light for a long time and haven't returned to the Pantheon for a long time. I don't know exactly what happened there."
Subsequently, Apollo reached out and summoned a Pegasus. He led the horse to Dick and said, "It can send you to see the King of Gods. You can only get the answer from him. Be polite when visiting him; don't anger him."
Then he took a crystal from his bosom, placed it in Dick's hand, and said, "In case you anger him, this thing can prevent you from being struck into ashes by thunder."
Raven took the crystal from Dick's hand and found that it should be a defensive artifact with no harm, so she nodded at Apollo, and Apollo also smiled at her.
Now they all understood that the praise for Apollo by Faust and others wasn't empty talk. His temper was indeed too good; he belonged to a rare species in this universe.
The Pegasus was much larger than an ordinary horse, so accommodating a few people was completely not a problem, and it flew very fast. Before long, they arrived at a temple above the sky.
Thunder circled the floating island, and the graceful figures of goddesses could be vaguely seen in the clouds. The place where the King of Gods lived carried an unspeakable majesty. The Pegasus stopped outside the island and lowered its head respectfully.
But Dick and the others, holding the crystal given by Apollo, went all the way unimpeded until they saw the majestic King of Gods, Zeus, on the throne at the very top of the temple.
That was a very tall figure, with endless thunder circling around him. Starlight as vast as the universe flickered on his crown, and his white robe danced with the breeze.
"Hello, Your Majesty Zeus. We come from Earth and want to know what exactly happened on Mount Olympus and whether this kind of disaster will spread to our hometown."
Following Apollo's reminder, Dick adopted his most polite attitude, because it was obvious that this King of Gods was not someone easy to deal with. And with such a major event happening on Mount Olympus, no matter who it was, they would be overwhelmed, and it was normal for their temper to be bad.
"Your worries are a bit superfluous," Zeus's tone was indeed very sharp. He said, "Because once the disaster truly happens, let alone Mount Olympus and Earth, the entire universe will be swallowed by darkness."
He stood up from the throne, his tall figure appearing even more majestic. But Dick had never had much of a sense of reality about gods. He said neither humbly nor arrogantly, "That's why we have to investigate. Perhaps in Your Majesty's eyes, human power is insignificant, but we must devote all our strength to guarding our homeland."
"I knew you would come looking for me," Zeus snorted and said, "You must be mocking in your hearts that the incomparably powerful gods would also flee in panic because of the arrival of disaster. This has given you unrealistic fantasies and arrogant confidence. What I dislike is not the weakness of humans, but your arrogance."
"Then you might as well say it. If it wasn't for running away, how could you appear here?"
Dick pulled Jason and told him not to argue with Zeus. Arguing was meaningless.
But Zeus didn't seem to want to argue with them either. Instead, he sighed long and said, "I led the gods here not to run away, but to avoid the sharp edge. This is not a beautified statement, but because the source of this disaster cannot be killed."
Dick revealed a confused expression.
Zeus shook his head and said, "You are still too young and don't know the source of the power of the ancient gods."
"Hecate?" Dick said the name, but Zeus didn't appear surprised. He said, "That's right. The legendary Goddess of Magic is actually the source of the gods' power. But what you don't know is that she is not the only source of magic. The truly terrifying thing is hidden behind the barrier she laid down."
Dick vaguely felt he had heard of it, but when he thought about it carefully, he couldn't remember. Zeus told them.
"Hecate's greatest achievement, besides giving the gods powerful divine power, was that she successfully prevented the source of magic in the dark world from invading here. Her barrier is the only defensive measure that can effectively prevent the invasion of the source of dark magic. Once she dies, the terrifying darkness will return."
"The gods of Mount Olympus are not without ways to deal with Hecate. She can be sealed once, and naturally she can be sealed a second time. It's just that in the long seal, her power began to be constantly weakened. If she cannot be revived, after the barrier completely dissipates, a greater disaster will come. We can only choose to avoid the sharp edge."
Everyone felt surprised. They didn't expect that the gods on Mount Olympus weren't actually running away, and it was even possible that Hecate's revival was actually indulged by them. They needed Hecate's power to help them resist the source of darkness.
"What is the source of the dark power you fear?" Jason asked with a frown. "Barbatos?"
"I don't know what you are talking about. But, there must be darkness under the light. The two of them complement each other. Using one will inevitably be tainted by the other. When she was blocked outside the wall, we didn't realize this. But once she comes back, she will collect debts from all of us."
Dick's heart began to sink, because he knew that the hatred between Hecate and the gods of Mount Olympus was almost irreconcilable. But even so, Zeus chose to indulge, which meant that the thing blocked outside the door by Hecate's power must be very terrifying.
"What about the deaths of Hades and Ares? Were they also arranged by you?"
Zeus nodded first, but then shook his head. He continued, "The God of the Underworld and the Goddess of the Underworld had to die, because they were the ones who truly betrayed Hecate. This is an emotional disaster."
Although Zeus didn't say it explicitly, Dick could infer that, in fact, the Goddess of Magic wouldn't have made such a scene with the gods of Mount Olympus. ===== CHAPTER 3056 =====
