Chapter 3062: The Mercury Record (59)
After the Wonder Twins left with Cassandra, Bruce and Oliver, who were arguing, stopped immediately. Oliver sighed and sat back in his original seat, while Bruce stood on the spot and yawned.
He glanced at his phone, while Clark turned to look out the window. They all seemed to be waiting for something.
"Is the meeting over?" Diana asked. She turned and said, "I still have a class this afternoon."
"I'm afraid you don't have to go to it, ma'am," Bruce clearly couldn't be bothered to pretend anymore. He said, "Perhaps you should explain these things that have happened on Mercury recently to us first."
"What do you mean?" Wonder Woman frowned. "You think I should be responsible for this?"
"We think you have a problem," Oliver said bluntly. "To be precise, you have been influenced by Hecate."
"Are you kidding!" Diana said incredulously. "You don't think I've been controlled by her, do you?"
"It's more clever than control," Bruce smiled and said. "You are still Wonder Woman Diana, it's just that some subtle things have changed."
"You are talking nonsense," Diana shook her head, looking at the others with the eyes of looking at a madman.
"Since that's the case, we also hope to place you in a place with stricter monitoring," Bruce said. "After all, if you haven't, this can also prove your innocence."
"I will never accept such groundless slander!" Diana stood up and slapped the table. "The ones influenced are you! You are making the Justice League split!"
"There is no split," Bruce's tone gradually turned cold. He stood up and said, "We will always stand together."
Diana stared fixedly at Bruce and said, "You have bewitched them!"
Then she turned to look at Clark, but Clark met her gaze without fear. The clear and firm gaze seemed to be able to see directly into the bottom of a person's heart.
"I didn't do anything at all! You have to believe me." Diana raised her voice and said, "Even if there is evidence, it could be forged. This is most likely a scheme by Hecate to sow discord among us!"
"Don't forget, I possess one-fifth of Hecate's power. The thing she wants most right now is to isolate me so she can attack me and take back her power. If you really believe her, that is what will cause a true catastrophe!"
"That doesn't matter anymore." Bruce emphasized once again, "I said it, we will always stand together."
Diana looked at Bruce, speechless, as if she truly could not bear to listen to his nonsense any longer.
She stared at Bruce with a cold face and said, "I don't know what you are talking about, Bruce. We can tolerate your ongoing madness, but this time you have gone too far!"
Then she added, "If you have any evidence, then bring it out. I will not acknowledge your baseless accusations! And I will certainly not allow you to do anything that destroys the unity of the Justice League!"
"Are you threatening me?" Bruce said, not showing any weakness, "You are reminding me that if you use force, the Mercury base, the Sun, and even the entire solar system could be in danger."
Before Diana could say anything, Bruce tapped the table and said, "But do you think I would come unprepared?"
As soon as he finished speaking, everything in the surrounding scene turned a glowing, eerie green. Outside the massive floor-to-ceiling windows, the light from the crimson flame particles made that green cloak look even more vivid.
Hal Jordan and the Supreme Green Lanterns he led descended. Even the light of the Sun had to give way to the emerald radiance, and the entire world turned a shimmering green.
Inside the Mercury base, the lifelike surfaces of all objects faded away rapidly. In the end, the entire planet became a massive green cage, and everyone in the Justice League was inside it.
Bruce spread his hands and said, "That's how it is."
"How could you do this to me?!" Diana appeared disappointed and heartbroken. She looked at Hal and said, "You are splitting the Justice League! Stop doing things that pain those close to you and delight your enemies."
"You've got it wrong. He isn't doing this to you; he is doing this to all of us." Bruce smiled indifferently and said, "This isn't just your cage, but all of ours."
Diana was stunned. Bruce said, "Actually, I don't have any evidence either, I just proposed a method that everyone could accept."
Bruce sat back down, tapped the table lightly with his hand, and said, "Hecate may possess a method to manipulate others, and this method is very secretive, with almost no way to detect it. This means that all of us could be targets of her manipulation, and we wouldn't even know it ourselves."
"However, no matter how sinister this method is, there are two people who are completely immune to her control. One is Shiler, and the other is Ion Hal."
"Not to mention whether Hecate's witchcraft can completely suppress the power of the universe's most primal emotional spectrum, Hal possesses the highest level of willpower in the entire universe. He won't be easily manipulated."
"Since that's the case, why not let him lock us all up." Bruce shrugged and said, "That way, no matter which one of us is controlled, it won't affect the safety of Earth."
He looked into Diana's eyes and said, "Except for the person controlled by Hecate, none of us are in a hurry to do anything. So, whoever loses their patience first and wants to leave is naturally the mole."
"Then what about Mercury? What about the safety of Mercury?" Diana said, "What if Hecate sends people to attack Mercury at this time..."
"You don't need to worry about that, Miss." Hal straightened his tie and walked in, saying, "The powerful warriors of the Green Lantern Corps will be responsible for the safety of the solar system. I am certain that within my jurisdiction, no one will be able to commit evil."
Diana seemed to finally lose her patience. She said, "Hal, you are going crazy with him too. The Green Lantern Corps is supposed to maintain universal safety..."
"Isn't the solar system also a part of the universe?" Hal remained completely unmoved. He walked to the head of the conference table, sat down, and said, "The Green Lantern Corps has determined that Hecate's resurrection is very likely to bring danger to the entire universe. The alert level for the solar system has been raised to the highest. Now, the actual controllers of all Lantern Corps are on standby outside the solar system. If she dares to appear, we will make her regret it."
Diana opened her mouth slightly, but in reality, she couldn't say anything because what Hal said was completely sound.
Unexpectedly, Hal continued, "I reviewed the frequency and level of disasters and accidents in various sectors over the past thousand years and discovered that Earth is the source of almost all major accidents. Therefore, the Guardians of the Universe have specially approved the selection of more excellent Lanterns from Earth to form a Galactic Guard, specifically to guarantee the safety of the galaxy."
"The personnel I brought today will continue to be stationed in the solar system during the formation of the Galactic Guard to ensure that the seeds of major safety accidents can be nipped in the bud, to kill cosmic terrorists like Hecate in the cradle, and to solve the safety problem of frequent major accidents in the universe from the source."
Bruce, Clark, and Oliver stood in a row and applauded.
Sometimes bureaucratic jargon is indeed annoying, but more often than not, bureaucratic jargon serves the purpose of making it impossible for you to refute it once you've heard it. For example, right now, whoever refutes it is disregarding cosmic safety.
Of course, it wasn't purely Hal putting on an act. What he said was indeed correct; 80% of the major safety accidents in the universe erupt on Earth. Therefore, the most efficient way to maintain cosmic safety is to keep a close eye on Earth and crush those major villains who haven't had a chance to stir up trouble yet.
Some might ask, don't the Guardians of the Universe in other universes know this? Why don't they do this?
This brings us to who caused the remaining 20% of major safety accidents.
The Guardians of the Universe don't exist to protect the universe at all. They do everything except protect the universe. They didn't form the Lantern Corps because they truly hoped the Corps could make the universe better, but because they hoped the Corps could make them better.
In most other universes, there is no group that can stand up and check the Guardians of the Universe, so the Guardians have been repeating the cycle of them causing trouble, them running away, and them dragging the Lantern Corps out to clean up their mess.
But the universe where Shiler is located is different. Through persistent, year-round extraction of Green Lantern energy, the emotional spectrum is already in jeopardy. If it goes any further, the depleted emotional spectrum is very likely to trigger an imbalance of cosmic power, leading to the destruction of the universe.
Hal used this power to arm his own troops, and if the little blue men wanted to continue extracting the power of the emotional spectrum to build a force to deal with him, then they would be the ones to push the final domino that causes the universe to collapse. Other powerful beings and other Lantern Corps in the universe would not allow them to do so either.
Hal extracting too much Green Lantern energy is wrong, but now that things have reached this point, we can't stop you if you are willing to risk your life against him, but you cannot drag the universe down to be destroyed with you.
So now, at least within the Green Lantern Corps, Hal is the sole power, and the little blue men have to respect him as well.
After gaining power, Hal mobilized personnel to compile statistics on the frequency of major safety accidents in various sectors and logically persuaded other Lantern Corps to make the galaxy where Earth is located a key area of prevention, solving the problem of cosmic safety from the root.
This resurrection of the Goddess of Magic is one of the pieces of favorable evidence for Hal's argument. Diana saw a cunning light flickering in Hal's eyes. He wasn't afraid of the mole taking action against him at all; on the contrary, he was waiting for Hecate to resurrect so he could let the other Lantern Corps and the little blue men see the consequences of not keeping a close eye on Earth.
Perhaps he also wanted to use Hecate to weaken the strength of other Lantern Corps so that the Green Lantern Corps in his hands could sit firmly in the top spot. By then, the Guardians of the Universe might not be able to completely restrain him, and all the Lantern Corps would fall into his hands.
At this moment, Hal looked at Bruce and said, "You said the other two aspects of the Triple Goddess will appear soon. Where are they?"
"Don't be impatient." Bruce smiled and said, "The aspect that makes the first move will soon be trapped. At that time, they will have no choice but to solve the problem from a physical level; they won't be able to avoid showing themselves."
"Are you referring to 'Mother'?"
"That's right." Bruce turned his head to look at Diana again and said, "Miss, why didn't you notice that Shiler was deliberately guiding you to touch him?"
Diana was startled. A scene flashed through her mind of her seeing Shiler tilt his head slightly to reveal the scales on his neck, and her gently touching them with her hand.
"You were so easily deceived, and you are sending your beloved mother to a dead end."
