Chapter 3144: The Detective Shall Die (Part 6)
Shiler showed the diary to the others. Their views were similar to Shiler's, and they all agreed that the owner of the diary might also have died somewhere.
And one very important piece of information recorded in the diary was that a family's goat went missing, and it seemed all the abnormalities started from this incident.
Goats have always been synonymous with demons, not only because of their strange appearance and rectangular pupils, but also because black goats indeed look very much like demons when standing upright.
Judging from the diary, a goat went missing and was then found, but it was likely not found alive, so the owner's family stewed the goat into soup.
The result was that everyone who drank the soup made from this goat went crazy.
Could the arrival of the Prowler be related to this goat? Or was it because the Prowler came that the goat went missing, and those people ate the contaminated goat and went crazy?
There was not enough evidence for now, and it was impossible to infer what was going on, but Shiler still said, "The diary might not only contain clues to the main plot, but might also be hinting at something to us."
"Are you saying we should leave quickly?" Main Universe Batman asked.
Shiler shook his head and said, "Animals. Don't forget that the owner of the diary also found no fish when he went fishing. This means the Prowler might be able to affect animals."
"We cannot trust any animals," Greed said. "Whether it's a cat or a dog, or even insects and snakes, they might all be related to the Prowler."
"Then what exactly is that thing?" The Pale Knight, standing in place, frowned and muttered. He said, "Are they really that hard to deal with?"
"Not necessarily," Shiler said. "This is just a remote little village; there might not be any real professionals here. The tragedy might not have been caused by the Prowler's strength, but by their own ignorance and weakness."
The Pale Knight just nodded slightly, but it was unclear what he was thinking. Compared to the Joker, who was crouching on the ground studying the carpet pattern, he was abnormally normal.
The kitchen door was finally opened. As soon as it opened, Shiler smelled an extremely foul, fishy odor. He immediately covered his nose, and the others also took a few steps back.
Night Owl and Main Universe Batman, standing at the front, were very cautious and did not expose themselves directly in front of the door, but stood on either side behind the wall, peeking inside.
They saw a fish, a big red fish, a big red fish with 24 ribs.
Main Universe Batman instantly turned to look at Shiler, and Bruce turned even faster than him.
Shiler hadn't seen the scene in the room yet because the foul smell made him dizzy. Logically, he shouldn't have such a reaction, but perhaps because of the game's restrictions, all his attributes had been weakened.
Shiler stepped forward a few steps and saw the big fish hanging in the center of the kitchen.
It was an extremely strong man nearly two meters tall, currently hanging head-down in the center of the kitchen, but he had no feet or arms. The whole person looked like a fish, wide in the middle and narrow at both ends, eyes wide open, expression coldly and eerily indifferent.
There was blood on his body, mainly concentrated near the missing feet and arms, which should be blood loss caused by the loss of limbs, but other than that, there were no very obvious external injuries. It seemed the cause of death was excessive blood loss.
But obviously, this was very strange, because human corpses don't smell like this when they rot.
Shiler noticed that the corpse's stomach was exceptionally large.
Worried about triggering another battle, Main Universe Batman and Night Owl walked in front. Main Universe Batman poked the corpse lightly with a shotgun, but there was no reaction. It seemed this person was dead through and through.
Shiler walked to the side and picked up a kitchen knife. Before acting, he said to the Beyonder in his mind, "I'm not going to dissect him; I'm just going to cut his stomach open. Don't tell me I have to roll a die for this too."
The Beyonder didn't respond, but it seemed to be a tacit agreement that no die roll was needed. Shiler made a cut, and *whoosh*, countless rotting fish corpses flowed out of the man's stomach, stinking to high heaven.
Now the others couldn't take it either. Except for the twitching Batman and Night Owl, everyone else started vomiting wildly.
Shiler's complexion wasn't very good either. The smell of rotting fish was simply a torture, much more lethal than the stench of human decomposition.
But Shiler still endured the foul smell and used the sharp kitchen knife to rummage through the pile of fish corpses.
He found a few human toe bones.
Then he found more bone fragments. He stood up and stared at the pile of rotting matter, saying, "He ate his own hands and feet."
"What?" Greed asked.
"I mean, his missing hands and feet are in his stomach."
"Ugh!" Greed started vomiting again.
Shiler felt the wooden handle of the kitchen knife and stood there thoughtfully. He walked to the back of the corpse and found obvious friction marks on the back, wet, dirty, and stained with some unknown grass clippings.
Shiler reached out and took down a relatively complete grass clipping, immediately realizing that this thing was not ordinary herbaceous plant, but should be reed leaves.
Had the corpse been to the water's edge?
But why were the friction marks on the back?
Shiler looked up at the corpse's missing feet again. At this moment, Batman said, "Neither of them used their feet to walk."
Shiler, of course, had also discovered the commonality between the two corpses. The first corpse walked upside down, and the second corpse had no feet at all. Both corpses had moved long distances before death, but neither used their feet.
Is this the Prowler's habit?
Shiler was more willing to believe that it wasn't that the Prowler couldn't fully control human corpses, but that he could only do so. He couldn't use his feet. Why?
Shiler raised his own question, and the others started to discuss. Bruce took the lead and said, "Could it be that his form is different from humans? In his view, feet are not for moving."
The Pale Knight seemed to agree with this speculation. He said, "These strange monsters must have different habits for using their bodies than humans. He might not understand what walking is."
"No," Main Universe Batman said. "If he didn't know how to walk, the first corpse wouldn't have walked over upside down."
This made everyone silent, because Batman was right. The first corpse was just upside down, but judging from the wear on the scalp, this monster knew how to walk with two legs, at least it could move to this place in the snow in such a posture.
And judging from the friction marks on the back of the second corpse, he might have moved from somewhere by the water to here while lying on the ground.
Could it be that the monster controlling the two of them wasn't the same one?
Now that there was no answer, they naturally could only look for more clues individually. The door from the kitchen to the next staircase corridor wasn't locked, but no one rushed upstairs. Basically, everyone endured the stench and searched for clues in the kitchen.
Shiler saw a fish basket in the corner of the room and found the same reed grass clippings inside, which meant that the deceased had indeed come from the riverbank, and he might have been fishing.
This corpse was probably the owner of the diary, Shiler thought.
Shiler found some artificial bait in the drawer. It looked handmade, slightly rough, but might be very useful. Shiler wasn't good at lure fishing, so he let the Joker take these baits.
Bruce found some footprints at the junction of the kitchen and the stairwell, which were clearly human footprints.
This wasn't very unexpected. Mainly, if there wasn't a third person, the second corpse couldn't have been hung on the rafters. After all, he didn't even have arms and legs, so how could he hang himself up?
"Clue found," the Beyonder said.
"I need to observe carefully," Shiler said immediately, walking over. A die appeared in front of him.
"Intelligence check 20."
The die drew an arc in the air and landed on 12. Adding Shiler's 10 points of intelligence, the 22-point check passed.
Finally succeeded once, Shiler sighed.
Some information immediately appeared in his mind. Through the pattern of the shoes, he could see that this should be a lady, slightly overweight, with slightly uneven shoulders when walking, and she was walking in a hurry, running fast.
Shiler said this information, and several people immediately looked upstairs. It was known that this house only had this one staircase. If there were only footprints going up and none coming down, it proved that the person was very likely still upstairs, though whether dead or alive was hard to say.
"Ah!!!!!!!!!!"
A sharp scream pierced the silence in the room. The people downstairs didn't hesitate at all and rushed up the stairs instantly.
Having a living person was the best news.
Main Universe Batman took the lead and rushed directly to the second-floor corridor.
Bang!
A gunshot, but no one fired. Immediately after, the sound of glass breaking.
These sounds were too obvious, so Main Universe Batman rushed directly to the room at the very end of the second floor. As soon as he opened the door, a slightly chubby middle-aged white woman wearing a headscarf was holding a revolver, the muzzle pointed straight at the window.
"It's here! It's here!!!" The woman shouted wildly, even pointing the muzzle directly at Batman.
Batman had to hide outside the door to avoid the edge.
"Where is the psychiatrist?!" Main Universe Batman shouted toward the corridor. "Come over quickly, there is a patient here who needs your comfort!"
Greed, who rushed in third, turned back and shouted, "Where is the psychiatrist?!"
Bruce behind him turned back and shouted, "Where is the psychiatrist?!"
Shiler, who had just climbed the stairs, looked at him coldly.
After a long while, Bruce reacted, "Oh, wait, I am the psychiatrist. Coming, the psychiatrist is here!"
He ran quickly into the room, saw the pitch-black muzzle, and braked sharply. He turned to Main Universe Batman outside the door and said, "You didn't say she had a gun!"
"If she didn't have a gun, would I need you?!"
Bruce was choked, hurriedly stretched out his hands and said, "Calm down, ma'am, you are safe now. We are here to protect you. I think you can put down the gun, let's talk..."
Bang!
Responding to him was another gunshot. The woman seemed to have had a mental breakdown and fired a shot at the curtain.
Can't talk at all. Bruce turned back and waved at Main Universe Batman, saying, "You do it."
Main Universe Batman then raised his shotgun and aimed at the woman's head, but the woman was still dazed, constantly muttering things like "It's here, it's here," with no other reaction.
"Do you know psychoanalysis?" Greed asked, but strangely, the object of the inquiry was Bruce.
Bruce nodded and said, "Yes, I've learned some."
Shiler added in his heart, "Whether you learned it or not is another matter."
"It's impossible to ask anything out of her in this mental state. You analyze it," Greed said, pointing at the woman.
"Uh..." Bruce dragged out a long sound and said, "I'm not well-learned, I might... well, I'll try."
Bruce activated the skill, but there was no reaction. He called the Beyonder twice in his mind. The Beyonder said helplessly, "The primary skill is just the theoretical knowledge in your head. You have to analyze it yourself."
"What?!"
Bruce looked up and saw Shiler leaning against the door, full of "I want to see what you can say." ===== CHAPTER 3145 =====
