Chapter 3222

~12 min read 2,253 words

"Did you see how the people from the church arrived?" Shiler looked at Batman and asked.

"Helicopters," Batman said. "There were probably over 200 of them. They spread out almost entirely into the village. The important figures likely occupied the church; the defenses there are very tight, and it's difficult to break through directly."

"Yes, and we can't just show ourselves," Shiler said, deep in thought. "Once they disarm us, we'll be in a completely passive position. We must cause some trouble for them."

Shiler thought that since Old Siltek had been gone for so long, it was impossible for there to be no movement at all. He must have already contacted the church, though it wasn't clear which faction he had reached out to, but the church had certainly received his message.

The Grand Prophet certainly did not want Old Siltek to leak the situation in the village, because he hadn't yet obtained what he wanted. If the information fell into the hands of the Pope, he would be in a passive position.

"Do you think the Grand Prophet knows about Old Siltek's plans?" Shiler asked.

"I think not only does he know, but he has long been on guard," Batman said. "Old Siltek's move to use the disaster for his own gain challenged the church's authority and has already touched his bottom line."

"Do you think he will silence him?"

"Inevitably."

With a bang, a large box was placed on the table, and the lock on the front was opened, revealing the green bills inside.

"Thirty thousand dollars as a deposit, it's all here."

Bruce stepped forward to confirm the authenticity of the bills in the box, then turned to look at the man: "You're very straightforward. It seems he's been causing you trouble again recently."

The wealthy businessman who had been kidnapped by them earlier looked terrible. After a moment of silence, he said: "I was almost blown to death by them."

"They didn't plant a bomb in your car, did they? They've got some real nerve."

The businessman's face grew even gloomier. Just last night, the car he was preparing to use for travel exploded, and he was just a hair's breadth away from being blown to smithereens.

This explosion brought almost all the police in the area, and they surrounded the entire villa district, but they couldn't find the culprit who planted the car bomb.

"You need to act quickly," the businessman said. "I'm not sure how he plans to take my life next time, and before that, I must kill him first."

"Rest assured," Bruce closed the box and said, "We've already found out that at 6:00 tomorrow morning, Siltek will be interviewed by the news broadcast center. We will enter the broadcast center tonight and find the best sniper position there."

"You plan to kill him with a gun?"

"Yes, the commotion from a bomb is too big, and it might not even kill him. Didn't you just escape a disaster?"

The businessman nodded and said, "Don't worry. After it's done, there's no need to meet. I'll have someone put the money in your car."

"That's for the best."

After the businessman left, Bruce turned to the Pale Face and said, "I didn't expect you to have this trick up your sleeve. Have you ever used a car bomb to take out a competitor?"

"No, they were the ones who wanted to use this thing to take me out," the Pale Face said. "After it happened enough times, I more or less knew how to do it."

"True, a car itself is a big bomb, it's really not difficult."

"Now that the money is in hand, what do you plan to do? Really go and kill Old Siltek?"

"Of course not," Bruce shook his head and said, "I'm not the type to be a hitman, and I believe you aren't either. Let's leave this matter to someone else. Get in the car, we're going to the city center."

Bruce drove all the way to the city center, found the largest shopping mall in the city, and located the most high-end suit store there.

"You don't intend to sneak into the broadcast center, do you?" the Pale Face said. "Old Siltek has likely seen us before; trying to get close to him won't work."

"Who said I intended to get close to him?"

Bruce said as he walked to the counter, flashed a smile at the receptionist, and said, "Hello, we're here on a business trip, but our car flipped in a blizzard, and the clothes we prepared are ruined. Can you get us some suitable suits?"

Looking at Bruce's handsome face, the receptionist's smile became a bit more enthusiastic. She said, "No problem, sir, please come this way with us."

Soon, several sales assistants came to their side. Bruce said, "We are insurance agents here for an inspection. We have to meet an important client later. The attire shouldn't be too flashy, but it must be of good quality so they can feel the level of importance we place on them."

One of the sales assistants smiled and asked, "May I ask what type of client you are meeting? A manager? Or a purchaser of insurance products?"

"It's a major client who purchased our company's insurance services, living over at Nelson Lake."

The Nelson Lake Bruce mentioned was that villa district where the wealthy lived, likely the most high-end community in the area.

The sales assistant understood immediately and led them to try on several suits. They were all good fabrics, but the tailoring was relatively conservative.

Bruce and the Pale Face were not ordinary people. As the saying goes, people rely on clothes. When they wore ordinary clothes, that air of nobility wasn't very visible, but as soon as they put on good clothes, their extraordinary temperament was immediately highlighted.

Bruce looked at himself in the mirror. Although the suit he was wearing couldn't compare to what he usually wore, it was considered quite good among ready-to-wear clothes.

"Let's take these two," Bruce nodded and said, "Cash transaction."

The attendant had no objections. If it were a business trip, cash would indeed be more convenient, especially when buying such expensive items, as private credit card advances could cause a lot of unnecessary trouble.

The two suits together cost 16,000 dollars, which was already very expensive for ready-to-wear, but Bruce paid without blinking an eye, and then chose some jewelry.

Earlier, they had pried open the owner's safe in the house in the villa district and gotten a few decent watches, which they wore directly on their wrists. They also found a bottle of good wine in the wine cabinet, put it in a box, and carried it with them.

After taking these, Bruce parked the car in a relatively remote underground parking lot, then found a Lincoln nearby, which was considered a relatively low-key luxury car. After prying it open with practiced ease, he hit the road.

"Where are we going?" the Pale Face asked.

Bruce smiled without answering, only saying to the Pale Face, "Just cooperate with me later."

The car drove through several turns to the east side of the city. The community here was significantly more chaotic than the city center and the suburbs, and the flow of people was denser. After passing through this area, it became even more dilapidated; they were approaching the slums.

The model of the car they were driving now appeared very abrupt here, and the people walking on the side of the road looked at them with strange eyes.

The car stopped in front of a small building. When Bruce and the Pale Face walked out, they immediately attracted the attention of the surrounding residents.

Bruce was not flustered at all, walked up, and knocked on the door.

Soon, the peephole flickered, and a woman's voice sounded.

"Who are you?"

Bruce glanced at his phone and said, "Ms. Theresa Binger? We are agents from the Siltek Insurance Company, and we'd like to talk to you about the compensation issue regarding your previous insurance case."

The other party seemed very surprised, but still opened the door a small crack. She looked Bruce up and down, and upon seeing his brand-new, high-end suit, his polished leather shoes, and the watch on his wrist, she revealed a complex expression.

The door opened, and a woman in her 40s with a face full of exhaustion appeared. Bruce walked in and looked at the layout of the room, knowing they had just moved in here not long ago.

The Pale Face followed him in. Bruce walked to the sofa and sat down without ceremony, then said, "I know you might be wondering why the previous agent isn't here to see you. Let me reintroduce myself: I am a member of the Public Relations Department of Siltek Medical Insurance Company, and this is a consultant from the Legal Department."

An angry expression immediately appeared on the woman's face. Before she could say anything, Bruce said, "We are extremely sorry for the incident where your daughter encountered a monster and died during her study tour, but we also learned that a month ago, you reported this matter in a government public opinion survey and even accepted an interview with the Sigeltek Radio and Television Center. This is precisely the purpose of our visit today."

Bruce's attitude was aggressive. The expression on the face of the lady named Theresa twisted instantly. She roared at Bruce, "You bastards, you damn bloodsuckers!! Because of your refusal to insure, my daughter died in the hospital!! And you still have the face to come to my door?!"

"We fully understand your sorrow, but the government's public opinion survey is equally important to our company. We do not wish for the published survey results to affect our clients' evaluation of our company."

The woman completely broke down. She said, "Because of my daughter's death, my husband and I divorced! I didn't get the insurance money, and I don't have a job, so I can only rent a house here!! I just wanted to expose your ugly faces to everyone else!! You will go to hell!!"

"Please calm down, ma'am." Bruce stood up and said with an indifferent expression, "Our company is willing to pay a portion of public relations fees as compensation for you to withdraw the investigation and indicate to the media that this matter was a misunderstanding. How does 1,000 dollars sound?"

The woman's eyes widened. She rushed up and grabbed Bruce's shoulders, saying, "My daughter is dead!! She's dead!! She should have had 60,000 dollars in insurance money for her treatment, but because of you, she died!!"

"Ma'am, you must be clear, this is not our fault. We didn't cause the monster to appear, nor did we make you unable to come up with the 60,000 dollars to treat your daughter..."

The Pale Face tugged on Bruce's sleeve, telling him to restrain himself a little. At the same time, he really wanted Bruce to look in a mirror to see how much he looked like a devil right now.

The woman seemed to have suffered a major blow; her face was pale, her body swayed, and she covered her face and cried.

"We are very sorry," Bruce continued in that indifferent tone, "but 1,000 dollars is the highest amount we can offer."

"1,000 bucks, heh, 1,000 bucks!!" The woman let out a sharp roar. She stood up again and grabbed Bruce's collar, saying, "How much is this suit you're wearing?! It must be over ten thousand, right?! And this watch, it probably costs tens of thousands, right?!! You'd rather wear these things on your body than save my daughter's life!! I'm going to kill you, I'm going to kill you!!!"

Bruce used some force and pushed her directly to the ground. He lowered his eyes and straightened his collar, saying, "Ma'am, if you continue to be so stubborn, then even the 1,000 bucks will be gone. Your daughter is already dead; what you should be considering now is your own life. Trading a trivial evaluation for some living expenses is good for everyone, isn't it?"

The woman seemed to want to stand up again. The Pale Face hurriedly rushed over to hold her, saying, "Alright, alright, ma'am, please calm down. We didn't come here today to have a conflict with you."

Bruce, however, looked at his watch impatiently and said, "Stop wasting time with her. If she doesn't want the money, there are plenty of people who do. Let's hurry to the next one."

After saying that, he turned and walked out. The Pale Face had no choice but to chase after him.

As soon as he sat in the car, he glared at Bruce and said, "Are you crazy? How could you say such things to a mother who just lost her daughter?!"

"You think I'm crazy too, right? That just means my performance was pretty good." Bruce straightened his cuffs and showed the Pale Face his phone.

The Pale Face saw many addresses on the screen, looking to be forty or fifty of them, all appearing to be addresses in relatively impoverished communities. He immediately realized what Bruce was going to do.

But he still said with some hesitation, "Even so, don't go too far."

"This is called going too far?" Bruce snorted coldly and said, "The people who let them just accept it like this are the ones who are going too far."
