Chapter 3345
During the process of choosing dungeons, there was a small interlude. Stark sent a message saying he had found a teammate. Shiler looked at the team status he sent over, and good heavens, it was Captain America.
It couldn't be said that these two weren't suitable; after all, the Iron Man and Captain America in Shiler's universe didn't have much of a conflict, and since Howard had come back to life, the Winter Soldier naturally wasn't a big deal anymore.
But Shiler really hadn't expected Steve to choose Stark; shouldn't he have leaned more toward his good partner Bucky?
Shiler sent a message to Steve and only then learned that Bucky had recently started dating and didn't have time to log on these two days, so he could only play with Stark first.
But anyway, teammates weren't bound, so changing later was fine too.
Shiler estimated that Stark wouldn't be bound to Steve until the end either. Perhaps after Peter finished being busy in a couple of days, Stark would choose to team up with Peter. Because compared to Steve, Peter would listen to him more.
What shocked Shiler even more was that Seeing Natasha had actually taken down Arkham Batman. Taken him down in every sense of the word.
Shiler didn't know how these two had hooked up either. He just glanced at Seeing Natasha's homepage and found that she was actually in a team. Out of curiosity, he asked a question. As a result, the other avatar in the team status Seeing Natasha sent over was none other than Arkham Batman.
Shiler sent her a string of thumbs-ups. As expected of Black Widow, she took down the most ruthless Batman in the multiverse right off the bat.
But Shiler was really worried that in a couple of days, the other avatar on this team status interface would become Arkham Knight Jason. According to his observations, Seeing Natasha seemed to quite love doing this kind of thing.
However, Black Widow and Batman's compatibility was actually quite good. Both sides were ruthless and didn't talk much, and both were masters of close-quarters combat, with puzzle-solving and exploration abilities that weren't bad either. Shiler got a headache just thinking about potentially being matched against them in large dungeons later.
Of course, Spider-Man was also among those who joined in the fun as soon as the big event went online. Peter didn't participate this time, and other Spider-Men basically teamed up in pairs with their counterparts from other universes.
More special was Gwen Spider-Man. She actually found Gwenpool, and the two Gwen-counterpart "cheap bugs" actually teamed up together.
And the Deadpool in Shiler's universe found Deathstroke from some unknown universe, and the two cousins formed a team. As for the other Deadpools, most of them actually chose Wolverine in unison. There must be some special reason.
Venom and Eddie counted as two different individuals, so Eddie was a team of one. But the good news was that because the Venom in their universe had stayed on Batman and Iron Man, his puzzle-solving ability was significantly stronger than other counterparts. Eddie also bought the battle pass, seemingly confident that he could finish grinding it.
And on the mutant side, of course, it was the classic combination of Magneto and Professor X, but because of the Golden Apple's treatment, the Erik and Charles in Shiler's universe had regained their younger-version skins; he believed many people would be very shocked to see the two who were very young but hadn't broken up.
Scarlet Witch Wanda was naturally teamed with Jarvis, but they were busy raising children recently and shouldn't play games very often. This was good news for all players who wanted to fight in the arena; after all, Scarlet Witch was just too good at fighting.
Shiler's butler Ultron still hadn't found his teammate to this day. Mainly because he said his counterparts from other universes didn't look very smart, and those superheroes thought he was an evil robot and wouldn't team up with him. So he still hadn't found a teammate.
Shiler saw him jumping up and down in a hurry, thought about it, and recommended someone to him, which was the Sentry of this universe.
The Sentry of this universe was still lying in a protective device because the energy in his body was too unstable; once something went wrong, he would blow up a galaxy, so for the time being, no one dared to let him out.
But it was fine in Battleworld; with so many big shots watching, it was guaranteed he couldn't blow up, and even if he did, it would just damage some virtual data, which wasn't a big problem.
So he had been addicted to Battleworld recently, playing through all the original dungeons he could go to. Although he didn't know how his compatibility with Ultron was, they really had no other choice, because Sentry was also an evil robot in other universes, and very few people were willing to play with him.
The members of the Guardians of the Galaxy were basically teamed up in pairs. But Rocket Raccoon went to find Pikachu and formed a new super-small-animal squad. Shiler actually very much doubted their puzzle-solving ability. If you stacked these two up, they wouldn't even reach the table; could they really play plot scripts?
Besides, in the background story, humanoid creatures could at least be explained as lost travelers, outsiders visiting suddenly, etc.; how would a raccoon and a yellow-haired mouse be explained? An experiment from some animal laboratory that ran out?
The art style of these two little guys wasn't suitable for following the plot step-by-step at all; it would be better to just go on a killing spree.
Shiler also briefly understood the DC side. Bruce and Clark teaming up wasn't beyond expectations; the two of them were indeed capable of both literary and martial arts. With Pamela and Harley teaming up, Shiler couldn't help but suspect that someone had impure motives.
Dick and Raven, Jason and Tim were all within expectations. The Wonder Twins were also a brother-sister combination, while Wonder Woman Diana brought along Cassandra, her favorite student at the Mercury Academy. Barry hadn't found a good teammate yet; it seemed he didn't have much interest in this game.
Also having no interest were Lex and Cobblepot, who were busy making money in reality, but it was also possible they intended to wait until the situation was clearer before participating.
In Shiler's camp, Shiler didn't see Pride in a team status, and he really couldn't think of who else Pride could team up with. But he felt the probability was high that it would be another Shiler.
Bishop was already in a team. He sent a message to ask and learned that Bishop and the Magician were queuing together. The Agent was also already in a queue.
Shiler glanced at the morbid side again and found that Hunter was in a queue. He had a bad premonition, so he sent a message to the Agent. It took several minutes for him to reply—the Agent was actually teamed up with Hunter; Shiler began to worry a little about their opponents.
The others had no movement; he didn't know if they were looking for teammates or simply didn't want to participate.
Shiler was now itching to know who Pride intended to team up with; if he had known, he would have asked Pride when deciding on candidates earlier.
But it was fine; with Strange's hellish schedule, Shiler's daytime was completely free. At worst, he would just go find Pride to queue together.
"Have you decided?" Strange's voice came. He clearly saw Shiler was distracted, which was why he spoke up to remind him.
"You decide," Shiler decided to be modest. Mainly because he really didn't have any ideas; he felt all themes were about the same.
"Do you play horror games?" Strange asked.
"Horror games? How scary can they be?" Shiler said with some disdain, "Are you expecting the ghosts in supernatural games to scare me, or are you expecting the serial killers in slasher films to scare me?"
"Then let's pick a horror theme." Strange sat on the sofa with one leg crossed over the other, browsing the dungeon options.
Suddenly, his hand paused, as if he had seen something interesting. Shiler closed his own interface, walked behind the sofa Strange was sitting on, and leaned over to look.
"Wait, medicine? How could there be a theme that is medicine?!" Shiler was very surprised.
"Don't you know that hospitals are considered classic horror scenes by many people?" Strange asked.
"Horror, where is the horror... ah, finishing over 80 case reports overnight is still quite horrific."
"Then let's pick this one." Strange said.
"Wait a minute," Shiler hurriedly stopped him and said, "Are you serious? Haven't you done enough surgeries? You still want to work overtime in the game?"
"This is a horror theme; there will probably be chase sequences and such," Strange said, "At the very least, there will be ghosts or something to scare you; it's impossible for them to make you squat in front of a computer and finish case reports, right?"
"That's true," Shiler nodded; he could already outline the scene of that kind of hospital horror movie in his mind. Anyway, it was just investigating the truth under the pursuit of some vengeful spirits, and then having a few jump scares.
Thinking about it this way, they actually had an advantage in queuing for this kind of dungeon. Because they were doctors, they weren't afraid of hospitals at all; unless it was the head nurse chasing them, no ghost could scare them.
"Alright, this one." Shiler nodded and said, "But magic abilities can't be used in this dungeon; can you handle chase sequences?"
"That's why I chose to play the hospital theme. I might get lost in other places, but playing a chase sequence in a hospital is like coming home."
Shiler couldn't help but give him a thumbs-up; this line of thinking was just too clear. Although the structure designed for each hospital was different, they were all those departments in the end. Whether it was a chase sequence or investigating clues, they had an information advantage.
Thus, the two directly chose the horror hospital-themed duo dungeon and directly chose to enter the game.
After a long darkness, Shiler first heard a rustling sound, as if something was scurrying back and forth in the corner, followed by a sound like the bellows next to a blacksmith's furnace, short and weak.
As the darkness before his eyes dissipated, Shiler was stunned by the scene in front of him.
The dim room had dry, rotten wooden floors and walls made of lead plates; the two small stone-built windows overhead let in a faint light, the firelight of the brass candelabras on both sides of the walls flickered, and the air carried a thick scent of mugwort mixed with rotting corpses.
In the center of the room were three operating tables made of wood and leather. Three dim yellow light bulbs hung above the operating tables, and on the shelves next to the operating tables were all kinds of metal tools: blades, long hooks, hammers, pliers, soldering irons...
On the wall directly opposite were all kinds of bottles and jars, all filled with unknown tissues soaking in rotten liquids, emitting a nauseating stench.
With a "clatter," the metal grate door on the wall above the central operating table opened, and a monster-like mummified corpse slid onto the bed.
At the same time, Shiler noticed he was tightly clutching a piece of parchment in his hand. He opened the paper, and the first line had a row of scrawled English written on it—"Plague Doctor Treatment Code."
This is bad, Shiler thought.
