Chapter 3370: Miraculous Physician (Part 25)

~10 min read 1,829 words

What is the most important quality of a doctor?

Some might say a solid medical foundation, and some might feel it's good medical ethics, but in reality, the most important thing for a doctor is psychological quality.

This is especially true for surgeons. Every top surgeon possesses extremely strong psychological quality, remaining calm even if Mount Tai collapses in front of them. Even if they are guilty, they won't show it on the surface.

Seeing Stark's face, Strange's blinking speed increased by 0.2 times per second, but that was the only change. He looked at the greed opposite with an expressionless face.

Schiller's psychological quality was clearly not bad either. He also looked at Strange for the first time, and after finding that the other party wasn't panicked, he gave him an approving look, and then glanced at the other side of the operating room.

Strange understood his hint.

The operating room was no longer that operating room. After an upgrade, it had become completely different from before, and even the era had changed, showing no trace of the past at all.

And the attire of the two of them had changed; although they were still wearing black robes, they weren't wearing masks anymore. Both of them wore glasses and hung crosses around their necks.

Even the number of people was different; before they were two, now Wanda had come, and they had become three.

Stark's impression of those two quack doctors should be plague doctors who were plotting and murdering in a dilapidated medieval basement. But Schiller and Strange had long since gotten rid of such an environment; they were now professional doctors of the Age of Discovery, with no medieval shadow from head to toe.

So in fact, as long as they didn't say it, it was impossible for Stark to recognize that they were the two quack doctors from before.

But there was another problem: the voice might be relatively similar. But Stark was clearly not the kind of person who had received professional training and could perfectly distinguish the other party's identity based on voice.

In summary, as long as they didn't reveal any flaws themselves, they could definitely fool Stark.

Both thought of this point at the same time, so they just showed reasonable surprise. After all, seeing an old friend in the game was quite unexpected. It would be too fake to have no reaction at all.

Schiller was the first to widen his eyes and said, "Tony? I mean... Iron Man? Are you Iron Man?"

Stark, who had just come to his senses, looked at Schiller, shocked to the point of almost sitting up, and said, "Schiller, why are you here? Am I already dead?"

"It really is you," Schiller tapped the guardrail next to the operating table and said, "I'm also very strange, why you would be here. What happened to you?"

Taking advantage of Schiller distracting Stark's attention, Strange went to check Stark's physical condition.

Stark was wearing a prisoner uniform, and on the surface, there seemed to be no problem, but Strange could smell a faint fishy smell of blood on him, his body temperature was relatively high, and there was a fishy sweet smell that would appear when there was inflammation inside the human body.

Strange reached out to unbutton Stark's upper clothes. Stark grabbed his hand in a panic. Strange hurriedly pulled his hand back and said unhappily, "I've warned you many times, keep your hands away from my hands..."

Stark laughed and said, "Because you feel that I am too miserable in other universes?"

Schiller reached out and flipped his eyelids, and tested the temperature of his forehead with his hand, turning to Wanda and saying, "Lady, concoct two ounces of icy magic potion, and bring a wet towel over."

Wanda turned to prepare. The towel was also one of the improved equipment after the operating room upgrade; except for the thickness being a bit insufficient, it was basically similar to a modern towel, and its water absorption performance was much better than the previous linen cloth.

Wanda soaked the towel with water, wrung it until it didn't drip, and sent it to Schiller's hand with magic. She picked up the tray and went to the cabinet to select herbs for making icy potion. This kind of potion was simple to concoct and didn't need to be boiled, and was completed soon.

Schiller poured the translucent blue potion onto the towel and then applied the towel to Stark's head.

During this period, Strange had been fighting with Stark. He knew that Stark's abdomen must have a wound, but Stark just wouldn't let him unbutton his clothes no matter what.

"He has completely burned confused," Strange evaluated. He sighed and said through gritted teeth, "It's best not to let me see him in the operating room in the real world..."

Schiller pursed one side of his mouth, tilted his head, and then raised his hand, making a helpless expression.

"He has signs of excessive blood loss and cannot be given anesthesia," Schiller looked at Stark's pale complexion and said.

Strange really had no other way. He put on gloves and patted Stark's face, saying, "Wake up, Tony, wake up..."

Stark took a long time to come back to his senses and responded, but seemed a bit sluggish. Schiller had to signal Strange with his eyes not to act rashly. He leaned over, reached out and shook in front of Stark's eyes, and said, "It's me, Tony, we need to check your wound now. Let go of your hand..."

Stark seemed to have finally grasped the situation; he loosened his grip on his clothes, and his arms hung down somewhat limply.

Strange unbuttoned the buttons, and very predictably, found a gunshot wound on his abdomen. Fortunately, the bullet didn't threaten important organs, just shot through the intestines.

Schiller saw that there was also blood seeping from Stark's legs, but when he wanted to take off his pants, it was another world war.

"Let go! Tony! Let go!!" Strange shouted at him, "We are doctors, we are going to treat you now!! Don't move around, if you accidentally cut an artery..."

Schiller reached out to stop him, leaned over again and patted Stark's face, and said, "According to the position where you are bleeding now, the shrapnel in your thigh is very close to your testicles. If you want to lose one of your eggs forever, then continue to kick your legs!"

Stark didn't move at all then, calmer than an ice sculpture.

Schiller and Wanda cooperated and successfully took off Stark's pants. Schiller originally wanted to ask Wanda if she wanted to avoid it, but thinking that Wanda wanted to be a nurse and would encounter many such scenes in the future, he didn't mention it.

Wanda wasn't repulsed either. She just took the clothes she took off to be smoked and disinfected, and said, "If you have seen that thing of a ram, you won't be surprised by any human genitals."

Seeing the wound on Stark's leg, Schiller and Strange both felt a bit tricky. To put it in common terms, there was a cut at the root of his thigh, and a bullet should have shot into it. But the bullet position was very deep, and the angle was very tricky, so the specific position couldn't be seen from the outside.

The risk of surgery was very high, and cutting along the wound to check was the safest plan. But the nerves in the lower limbs of the human body were very dense, and damaging any point could lead to lower limb movement disorders. Blindly deepening the original wound could lead to very serious consequences.

This kind of injury must be X-rayed. The bullet position must be determined first before studying how to take it out. But their operating room only upgraded once, and although the era had progressed, it clearly didn't have technology like X-rays, and there was no way to see through the bullet position.

Then they could only adopt the most primitive method.

Strange first knocked on Stark's knee, but there was no knee-jerk reflex at all, and then he leaned to Stark's ear and shouted: "Can this leg bend? Try bending it!"

The icy towel on his forehead and the clothes he took off reduced Stark's body temperature quite a bit. His brain, full of wisdom, finally started turning again. He tried hard to lift his leg, but couldn't lift it no matter how he twisted.

Strange frowned.

As soon as Stark saw his expression, he panicked and said, "Am I going to be paralyzed?! No!! Aren't you known as the Hand of God? Think of a way quickly!"

Strange didn't speak, just pulled Schiller to the side. Schiller was still smiling and saying to him at this time: "Are you trying to scare him again? If you ask me, once or twice is enough, don't be too..."

Strange still didn't speak, just looked at him quietly.

The smile on Schiller's face gradually disappeared. He turned his head and looked at Stark and said, "The situation is very bad?"

"The bullet might be stuck between the femoral artery and the femoral nerve, and above it is the sciatic nerve," Strange said. "In surgery, this position is called the 'Death Crossroads'. One step forward is arterial bleeding, and one step backward is lower limb paralysis."

Schiller took a light breath and said, "Is the surgery very difficult?"

Strange clearly went through careful consideration and said, "There are two situations now. If the bullet is horizontal..." He gestured the orientation of the bullet, and then continued, "Then the risk of affecting the sciatic nerve is relatively small, and it can be taken out from the medial side of the femoral nerve."

"But if it's vertical..." Strange shook his head and said, "I suggest not doing surgery, and then pray to God, letting the bullet stay in that position for a lifetime, so he only loses one leg, instead of being paralyzed directly."

"Is there no other way?"

"First we have to determine the angle of the bullet." Strange's speaking speed became very slow, clearly weighing his words. He said, "As long as it's not the worst situation, it can be tried. But there must be a chance of failure."

"The biggest problem now is that we have no way to see the direction of the bullet through modern medical instruments. So the only way to judge the direction of the bullet is to figure out how he was injured, and the angle of the shot can probably judge the current state of the bullet."

"And to let Tony Stark describe how he made himself so miserable is more difficult than this entire surgery. And this is your work scope, not mine. Whether this surgery can succeed mainly depends on you."

Now it was Schiller's turn to frown.
