Chapter 3449
Clark and Bruce came out of the back door of the Metropolis Museum of Art and headed straight for the parking lot. On the way to find the car, Clark's ears moved, and his gaze shifted toward a place without moving a muscle.
"I think we've been discovered by him." Batman, standing in the corner of the parking lot, said to Superman.
"Not surprising. I can hear sounds from the other side of the Earth."
"Then if I hold my breath..."
"Unless you can pause your heartbeat."
Batman tidied up his uniform, preparing to deal with the upcoming conversation, only to watch Clark and Bruce walk past them and arrive at the car.
"It seems they don't intend to come to us actively, should we go over and talk to them?"
"Shouldn't the question we think about now be where they are going?" Superman leaned over to look there, and Batman followed closely.
"Actually, I'm more curious why they want to drive. The key is, why is Superman driving?"
Superman also raised one eyebrow, looking a bit confused, and then he turned to Batman and said: "I think this is normal, why don't you let me drive usually?"
"You habitually speed." Batman said, "And you never look at the rearview mirror..."
"That's because I have super hearing, I can..."
"They're gone." Batman nudged Superman's arm and said, "Follow them, we have to find a chance to talk to them."
"I'm afraid you have to talk to me." A female voice suddenly sounded behind them. Turning their heads, Diana, wearing a white shirt and a black suit skirt, stood behind them.
"Diana?" Superman called her name and said, "Uh, long time no see. How have you been lately?"
"Not bad. Welcome to this universe, but before you take any action, I need to talk to you. Follow me."
Batman and Superman exchanged a glance.
"She didn't take her lasso."
"Yes. But I'm not sure I can run away."
"Let's go."
"Let's go."
Diana invited them into her office and took out two new cups, pouring them coffee.
"Please allow me to say welcome again. Of course, if you don't like such polite talk, let's get straight to the point. What is your mission for coming here?"
Batman shook his head and said: "We don't have a mission for now, however, regardless, we will definitely protect the people of Metropolis."
"Then thank you very much." Diana said, "If we are facing an alien invasion next, then we do need more manpower."
"Then let's go, let's go to the Batcave first." Batman didn't pick up the coffee, stood up and said, "We suspect the person coming might be Zod, this guy has Kryptonian technology. I didn't bring professional equipment when I came, I need to borrow the equipment of the Batman here."
"No rush." Diana said, "The members of the Justice League in this universe won't arrive until tomorrow morning at the earliest. Once we have gathered the manpower, you can naturally come to help."
"Not arriving until tomorrow morning?" Batman frowned slightly and said, "Didn't you notify the Flash? Or is he..."
"What? Oh, you mean Barry. He is preparing for a recent football game." Diana put her hands together in front of her chest, smiling and saying, "And his Speed Force is not suitable for carrying people."
Batman nodded slightly, as if signaling Diana to continue. Diana looked at him, not knowing what else to say.
Superman seemed to have thought of the key to the problem and said: "How old is Barry?"
"He is still in college." Diana turned to put down the coffee cup, and then said, "Adult wars shouldn't affect children."
"Fine. Tomorrow morning isn't very late either." Batman said, "If you don't want us to enter the Batcave before then, we can also go to the Justice League base first. Do you have a Brother Eye?"
"The ground base of the Justice League is in Washington."
"Uh, ground base?"
"Yes, the main base is on Mercury. It's not that you can't go over, but the students are all on vacation now, and there is nothing there. We don't monitor Earth through there."
"Then how are you..."
"We use the Luthor Group's Sky Eye. If there is any abnormal situation in the city, he will tell us." Diana said.
"Sorry, may I ask, is the Lex Luthor of this universe your teammate?" Superman also stood up and asked.
"You could say that." Diana replied, "His relationship with Clark and Bruce is relatively good, and he belongs to the same camp as Oliver. Although his relationship with others is average, it's acceptable."
Batman and Superman exchanged a glance.
"He has... I mean, does he have any objections to Superman?"
"I think he does." Diana smiled and said, "Because once when Clark used his breath to help him clean the manor, he accidentally froze the entire manor. That almost made him homeless."
Superman didn't even know which of the two things was more outrageous: Luthor asking Superman to use his super ability to help him clean the house, or Superman not cleaning the house well even with his super ability.
"If Luthor stands on our side, things will be much easier to handle." Superman said, "Because every time Metropolis encounters something, Luthor will tie my hands and feet."
"I guarantee the one in our universe won't." Diana sighed lightly and said, "Because the one who ties our hands and feet in our universe is someone else."
"Fine. I need a base where I can do something. Where should I go?"
"I think the Luthor Group headquarters laboratory is a good choice." Diana said, "But we need to agree on three things."
"Don't worry, I won't mess with your things."
"I mean, you need to keep anything you see there confidential." Diana tapped the table lightly with her fingertips and said, "I mean anything, and anyone."
Batman revealed a confused expression. Diana didn't elaborate with him, he picked up his phone and dialed a number.
"Hello? Lex? Yes, I've already met them. Good, I'll bring them over now. But you'd better tidy up too, don't make it too messy."
Putting down the phone, Diana looked at Batman and said: "Do you want your companion to fly you over, or should we drive?"
"There is another pair of dangerous Superman and Batman in the city, flying is not safe, let's drive over." Superman suggested.
"Then wait a moment, I'll let Lex send a car to pick you up."
"Uh, can't we drive ourselves over?"
"That's not safe." Diana said.
Diana walked out of the room, seemingly to contact Lex. Superman complained to Batman: "They seem to have let Lex control Metropolis. They will regret it."
"At least for the current situation, it counts as a good thing." Batman patted him on the shoulder and said, "If Luthor can unite with superheroes, then he is indeed a big help. Isn't he?"
"Fine." Superman took a deep breath and said, "When I see him later, I will try to be as polite as possible. If I really can't hold back, you must stop me."
Batman smiled at him.
After a while, Diana walked in, but she was followed by two tall strangers. She stood at the door, waved at Batman and Superman and said: "Follow me."
They walked out of the door. Diana and the bodyguards walked in front, Batman and Superman fell behind. Batman turned to Superman and said: "This scene is too strange, why do the three of us need two bodyguards to go out?"
Superman shook his head, obviously unable to figure it out.
The even more incomprehensible things were still to come. They walked in the corridor of the Metropolis Museum of Art, but didn't take the elevator they came up on, but turned around and arrived at a room.
This was clearly not an exhibition hall or an office. The room was very small, with almost nothing in it, and a painting was placed in the center.
Diana took down the painting and pulled the lever behind it. The wall on the right moved away, revealing a new elevator.
Several people walked in together. The elevator continued to descend, Batman calculated in his heart, the height reached at least ten floors underground.
As soon as the elevator door opened, Batman and Superman were stunned. Outside was not some basement or sewer, but a road.
A car was parked by the side of the road. One of the bodyguards walked over and opened the door, signaling them to get in.
Diana sat in the passenger seat, Batman and Superman sat in the back seat. One bodyguard sat in the driver's seat to prepare to drive, and the other helped them close the door and watched them leave.
"What's the situation?" Batman asked.
"They are people from Luthor Group." Diana said lightly, "Relax, this is to ensure safety."
Driving on the unobstructed underground road for more than 10 minutes, the car stopped. After they got off, Batman saw a glass door by the side of the road, and two people were standing in front of the door.
Diana walked over and showed them her work permit at the museum. The bodyguard also walked up and made a gesture. The two stepped aside, the glass door opened, and the group walked in.
Until they got on the elevator, Batman was still a bit confused.
This process made him a bit indescribable. If he had to evaluate it, probably two words—professional.
The whole process was very serious and solemn, as if every procedure had been practiced thousands of times. Wonder Woman didn't even look like a heroine, but a bit like that kind of professional agent.
But once he thought that the person they were meeting was Lex Luthor, Batman felt his hair stand on end.
"Ding," the elevator door opened. Diana took them to the depths of the corridor. As soon as the office door opened, a figure stood before the huge floor-to-ceiling window.
The red-haired figure in front turned around. Batman and Superman were shocked by Lex's young face.
"Good heavens, how did I forget. Everyone in this universe is very young." Batman rubbed his brow and said.
"Welcome." Lex said to them, "I won't say polite words. I also got some information about you from Battleworld, not necessarily all correct, but at least there is a basic understanding. But you don't know much about us."
"To facilitate the next cooperation, I can answer your questions. Of course, you can also wait until the members of the Justice League are gathered before asking them. But I believe by then, they probably won't have time to answer you."
Superman and Batman thought of the other pair they met before. Those two were obviously quite dangerous and troublesome and would absolutely not cooperate with them. After the members of the Justice League came, they would probably go to solve them first, otherwise, when Zod came, it would be being attacked from both sides.
Superman just wanted to say something, Batman stretched out a hand to stop him, looked at Lex and said: "Before the enemy arrives, how much power can you gather to come to Metropolis?"
"What power do you mean? Superheroes?" Lex sat down at the desk, and then said, "We don't have many people. Many superheroes you are familiar with haven't debuted here yet, or have simply disappeared. For example, Cyborg and Martian Manhunter, they didn't join the Justice League."
"What about the Robins?"
"They are not here, and they can't come back in a short time."
"Then what do you plan to use to deal with Zod? I must remind you, Zod can't be coming alone. Either he will have a robot army, or he will go to other parts of the universe to find some helpers." Superman stepped forward and said.
"If you don't have enough middle-level power, even if you can engage in a decisive battle with him over Metropolis, the aftermath will definitely endanger ordinary people. I hope you can make arrangements for this. Or I can help you." He continued.
"You don't have to worry about this problem." Lex drank a sip of water, and the other hand pressed the button on the armrest.
In an instant, the office changed its appearance. The metal walls were like vines growing from the soil, completely covering the floor-to-ceiling windows. The chandelier retracted from the gap in the ceiling, replaced by a huge central display hub with eight screens.
The desk also sank into the ground completely. One device after another was replaced, the buttons on the operation panel were as numerous as stars, and the holographic display screens that lit up one after another constituted the cloudless night of Metropolis.
Batman looked up. Various data in the screen poured into his brain, making him feel a kind of coldness and shock rushing up from his spine. That wasn't just simple bytes, but the nearly ten million residents of Metropolis.
When he turned his head, Lex had just stood up from the chair, and the cup colliding with the desktop made a light sound.
"Metropolis is my territory. No one can stir up trouble here without my permission." He said, "Including aliens."
