Chapter 3454

~11 min read 2,180 words

The Injustice Superman turned around and wanted to chase, but the Superman who appeared at the end of the alley certainly wouldn't let him go. The two Supermen took off one after another, following behind Bruce.

Regarding the fact that Bruce could fly, the acceptance of the two Supermen was clearly higher than that of Batman. It seemed that the Batman in their imagination should be able to fly, and those who couldn't fly were the strange ones. And Bruce being able to fly was just completely "not pretending anymore."

However, in the process of chasing, the Injustice Superman also discovered one thing, which was that Bruce's flying level was very high.

Flying is always difficult for humans. Even if they can fly without any external force, the human body structure is not suitable for high-speed flight, not to mention dodging left and right, rushing left and right during the flight.

But Bruce's movements were quite flexible. The Injustice Superman was about to catch up with him several times, but he avoided it with flexible maneuvering techniques. The Injustice Superman didn't really want to think about how he practiced this flying technique.

Just when Bruce was circling above Metropolis with the two Supermen, Lex also brought the Injustice Batman to the safe house under the Luthor Group.

The bodyguard pushed the Injustice Batman into the room and then fixed him on the safety chair. Lex sat on the sofa opposite, muttered a few words to the bodyguard next to him, lowered his head to type on his phone, and then looked at the Injustice Batman.

"Alright, Bruce. I'm very busy, let's make a long story short." Lex said, "I really want to know why the Superman of your universe became like this."

"You want to know Superman's weakness?"

"Just take it as that." Lex was in no mood to explain to him. He said, "You don't have to beat around the bush with me. Now no one can come to save you, and you can't run out either. This question is not an unanswerable taboo. As long as you tell me, maybe I can help you."

The Injustice Batman moved his lips, subconsciously searching for bargaining chips. Just as he was about to say something, the door was knocked.

Lex sighed, complained in a low voice, and then walked over to open the room door.

The first thing that came in was a pizza.

Of course, it was impossible for the pizza to "walk" in. Clark walked in afterwards, handed the pizza to the bodyguard on the side and said: "I knew you wouldn't go up to eat."

Lex turned his head and glanced at the pizza box. There was a vegetarian sign on it. It was a mushroom pizza that he liked relatively more, although he didn't like pizza at all.

"Didn't I tell you in the group not to bring it to me?" Lex turned and walked over, opening the pizza box. The pizza inside was still steaming.

He reached out to pick up a piece, but put it back. Clark looked at him with some confusion. Lex sighed again.

"What's wrong? Is there something wrong with the pizza?" Clark asked.

"Can you look at the current atmosphere?" Lex looked back at the Injustice Batman and said somewhat helplessly, "How am I supposed to negotiate with Batman while dealing with the cheese pull of the pizza? Can you imagine how ridiculous this action is?"

"Uh... this was indeed my lack of consideration," Clark said, "Then what do you want to eat? I can go buy it for you."

"Why are you so attentive today?"

"Bruce wants to borrow your lab to build a mobile phone."

"Get out with him and your pizza."

"Don't be so heartless," Clark walked in front of him and said, "I swear this time he absolutely won't break any of your equipment, I will watch him."

"You swore the same thing last time, and then he broke three of my imported equipment." Lex turned around, expressing his refusal.

But he turned around again soon and said: "He wants to build a mobile phone? Why did he think of building a mobile phone again?"

"I don't know, he said he had a new idea." Clark followed Lex to the sofa, sat down and realized that there was still a Batman tied to the safety chair opposite.

He stood up a bit awkwardly, but thought for a while and sat down again, smiling and nodding at Batman.

The Injustice Batman was clearly speechless. You don't save me, fine, what are you laughing at? Is it funny?

But to be fair, this scene was indeed funny, because Lex started eating pizza, but didn't successfully solve the problem of the pizza cheese pull. Clark even used his freeze breath to chill his drink.

"Before you ask me what's going on with the Superman of my universe, shouldn't you tell me what's going on with you two first?" The Injustice Batman still couldn't help but ask.

"What's wrong with us?" Clark asked while playing with his phone. There was a big Luthor Group logo on that phone.

"You are an alien," the Injustice Batman said.

"That depends on how you define an alien." Clark raised his head and looked at him, "Do you think black people are Americans?"

"Do you think I have racial discrimination?"

"I know you don't, that's why I asked." Clark glanced at the two bodyguards next to him; both of them were black.

"They were not Americans originally," Clark said, "They came to this land for special reasons during a special historical period. This is not their fault. They settled here, worked here, and created a beautiful life for themselves here. You cannot say that America doesn't have a share of them."

"You compare yourself to black people?" The Injustice Batman frowned slightly and then said, "But I must point out that your status and situation have significant differences."

"Yes, so I said that was a special situation during a special historical period. No one can fully reproduce it, I'm just giving an example."

"Then this metaphor is not appropriate." The Injustice Batman felt that he had caught a loophole in Clark's words, but didn't expect that Clark's next words would leave him stunned in place.

"Yes, I think I did better than them," Clark looked into the Injustice Batman's eyes and said, "I help people, protect them, and let them live a better life. So I can stand here and say with confidence that Earth today has a share of me."

"When you talk about a part of humanity, you will inevitably talk about Clark Kent. You can separate me from humanity by race, but you cannot erase me from human history."

The Injustice Batman stared into Clark's eyes for a long time. He realized that this might be the only one among the thousands of Supermen in the multiverse who were struggling with their own existence problem who had seen the truth.

Human life is short, but human history is long. When the time scale is stretched from months and years to hundreds and thousands of years, or even traced back to primitive societies thousands of years ago, one can view one's own existence from another perspective. This is the so-called "taking history as a mirror."

When a person dies, a group goes extinct, and a country is destroyed, everything they possessed at that time loses its meaning. For future generations, their existence only means one word—history.

History is the end of all things. Whether it is people from the past or the present, one day they will become history. Planets will become history, galaxies will become history, and the universe will also become history.

Krypton has already become history. But there is no name of Kal-El in the history of Krypton, and there never will be.

What did his birth mean there? What should he have left behind? Would the traces he left behind affect the ending? These questions, along with the destruction of Krypton, no longer exist. Because in the coffin where the final verdict is made, the trace of that little baby was never carved.

On the contrary, Superman's name is destined to be with human history. America may be destroyed, human civilization may perish, and the Earth will eventually disappear completely in the vast universe. But as long as they have left history, it will definitely record the name of Clark Kent.

This is a fact that Kryptonians, humans, and Clark Kent himself cannot change, and it is a predetermined ending that can be known now.

The only thing that changes is the image in which he appears in history. He can be a hero, or a villain; he can be a kind guardian, or a cruel ruler.

But no matter what image it is, it is no different from other such people in history. There has never been a niche track in human history; saints and tyrants are a dime a dozen.

Clark Kent's unique background, whether he is famous or unknown, whether he is well-known for good or notorious, cannot change the ending that he will be classified as a certain kind of human.

He doesn't need to explore, doesn't need to do more, and doesn't need to prove anything. The ending is already destined.

It's a pity that too many Supermen can't see through this point, caring too much about people's views on him, never thinking that the "existence" he has been striving to find and the home that can accommodate this existence have long been clearly written on the last page of the history book.

At this moment, the Injustice Batman realized why Clark and Lex of this universe could get along harmoniously.

Because both of them realized that no matter what they did, they couldn't change the fact that the name of the Kryptonian Clark Kent would forever linger in human history like a ghost.

But the Injustice Batman still spoke: "People live in the present. If you have the ability to bring pain to humanity, who can guarantee that you won't do that?"

"You still don't understand what I said." Clark looked up from his phone again, he said, "My relationship with humanity is already unchangeable. Even if the Earth is destroyed, aliens will say: 'Look, that is the last Earthling Clark Kent.'"

"The destruction of Krypton left me stranded on Earth, and if Earth is destroyed, I will be stranded on the next planet. Do you think repeating this process is a good thing?"

The Injustice Batman pursed his lips. Of course he knew it wasn't. Being forced to integrate into a group but not being accepted is very painful, just like the example Clark gave earlier.

The farm life in Kansas left Clark with that kind and gentle side of his personality, making him unable to completely degenerate forever, at least never becoming that kind of loner who doesn't need anyone's care and doesn't care about anyone's opinion.

He needs society, he needs people, he needs friends, companions, or supporters. The desire for recognition is never satisfied.

So when he was sad and angry to the extreme, he chose to rule the Earth instead of destroying it.

Because if there was no Earth, all of these would be gone. He would turn back into that baby who was stuffed into a spaceship and hurriedly thrown out, with no relatives, alone, in endless lonely wandering, searching for evidence of his existence through the shadows of the past, like an abandoned dog.

If Superman doesn't destroy the Earth, then the fundamental conflict between Clark Kent and Lex Luthor doesn't exist.

The fundamental logic of Luthor dealing with Superman is that he feels Superman's existence threatens humanity.

If Superman protects the Earth to implement justice, Luthor will feel he is a threat, because justice is a slogan and is unreliable. He can be righteous today and evil tomorrow. As a capitalist, Luthor knows this better than anyone.

But if Superman protects the Earth for his own interests, it is more acceptable to Luthor. Slogans are all empty, and interests are reality. As long as Superman and Earth have common interests, then Superman is humanity's ally.

Humanity needs Superman, and Superman also needs humanity. The interests of mutual need are the most solid alliance relationship, more direct and reliable than any sensational slogan.

This should have been the most perfect way to get along, and it doesn't seem difficult to achieve. But unfortunately, the vast majority of universes can't do it.

In the final analysis, although it can be called a twist of fate, the main reason is that it is unrealistic to expect everyone to remain rational and sit down to talk at all times, and really be able to communicate calmly to the end. Batman would never make such an idealistic assumption.

So he was even more curious, what made this young Clark realize this so thoroughly? And what made Lex Luthor have the patience to listen to his ideas?
