Chapter 3533: Mind Hunter (2)
Injustice Batman and Injustice Superman wanted to ask Oliver for contact information, but Oliver shook his head and said: "Once you arrive, the Professor will naturally contact you. Go."
The two had no choice but to give up and rush to Cat Getan at the fastest speed.
After arriving in Cat Getan, they didn't see anyone contacting them. However, Batman was Batman after all, and this didn't stump him.
The two found a hotel. Batman opened a room using Bruce Wayne's identity, handed the room card to Injustice Superman, and said: "Go to sleep."
Injustice Superman sneered and said: "I didn't expect that one day, the first item on Batman's combat mission would be to sleep."
"I also didn't expect that when you used the alarm clock failing to explain why you were late for the Justice League meeting, you performed so convincingly."
Hearing him reveal his bottom line, Injustice Superman just snorted coldly. Unexpectedly, when entering the elevator, Injustice Batman smiled and said: "I once suggested to Lois that she throw away that broken alarm clock and buy a new one. Guess what she said?"
Injustice Batman's words fell, and the elevator door closed. Injustice Superman stood blankly at the door.
He didn't expect Batman to mention Lois.
No one dared to mention this name in front of him.
Regarding the alarm clock, he of course knew what was going on. Every time he and Lois woke up late, causing them to be late for meetings, he would lie and say his alarm clock was broken.
Superman wasn't good at lying, and he used the same excuse every time. Everyone could see something was wrong, but they just tacitly didn't say anything, sometimes just looking at him and smiling.
He didn't expect Batman to actually go and verify it with Lois. He could already imagine how embarrassed and angry Lois must have been at that time.
Injustice Superman lowered his eyes, his mind full of the mornings he spent with Lois. The sunlight spilled on the soft quilt, and the scent of the camellia shampoo Lois used lingered in every half-awake moment of his. Until today, until now.
Injustice Superman only discovered when he arrived at the room that Injustice Batman had only opened one room.
"Considering the safety of our bodies, it's best if we stay together," Injustice Batman said. "I refused any room service, and they promised to ensure safety."
Injustice Superman now knew why the hotel front desk looked at him so strangely.
"You really have a good reputation," Injustice Superman said with a bit of sarcasm.
The hotel bed was very large, more than enough for two adult men to lie on. They lay down on each side, Injustice Batman folded his hands on his lower abdomen, and Injustice Superman crossed his arms, assuming a vigilant posture.
Injustice Batman closed his eyes, and after a short while, his breathing became gradually even, and his brain waves became stable.
Injustice Superman, however, couldn't fall asleep for a long time, his mind full of fragments of his past life. First Lois, then Batman, and finally the Joker's evil and crazy face.
"Wake up... wake up..."
Injustice Superman woke up with a start, and as soon as he opened his eyes, he saw a pale face appearing in front of him.
"Bang!"
"Ouch!"
A figure stumbled back a few steps, covering his bruised eye socket, and looked at Injustice Superman, baring his teeth.
Injustice Superman sobered up and found that he wasn't in the hotel room, but appeared on the side of the road downstairs from the hotel.
Strangely, the road that was originally full of traffic now had no cars at all, only a large truck parked in front of him.
Injustice Superman seemed to react to what he had just seen and looked fiercely at the figure.
"Joker!!!!"
The figure rubbed his eye socket, rolled his eyes at Injustice Superman, and said: "Why are you shouting so loudly? Yes, I'm the Joker, what do you want to do?!"
"You damn bastard! Why do you keep appearing in my dreams over and over again?! I told you, no matter how many times you come, I will tear you apart!!"
Injustice Superman roared at him, his tone full of anger, but also a trace of fear and sadness that he couldn't hide.
"What else do you want? Kill Lois again in front of me?! I told you, I won't be afraid of you! I will kill you again, no matter if Batman or anyone else tries to stop me, I will do it! No one can stop me!!"
Injustice Superman rushed toward the figure like a madman, but this time he couldn't punch through his chest like in reality. The other party's figure flickered and then disappeared.
"You bastard! Despicable, shameful, dirty rat! Are you afraid?! So you can be afraid too?!"
"Can you calm down..."
Injustice Superman rushed over like a madman again, but the figure dodged onto the truck and slammed on the gas. With a "bang," Injustice Superman was directly knocked away.
He fell to the ground, the pain was incomparably clear, as if all the bones in his body had been crushed. His head hurt particularly badly, and his vision began to blur.
And the figure got out of the car again, came to his side, waved his hand in front of his eyes and said: "Can you wake up? I'm not the Joker from your universe, and I haven't killed your little girlfriend..."
"Lois..." Injustice Superman looked to one side again, as if he saw something, but there was nothing there.
"No matter what you see, that's your hallucination," the other party said. "You get up quickly, I still have to pick up someone else."
After saying that, regardless of whether Injustice Superman agreed or not, he pulled him up from the ground and threw him into the truck's cargo bed.
Injustice Superman felt as if he had lost consciousness; one moment it was the scene of the Joker killing Lois, one moment it was the hotel room, and one moment it was Batman talking in his ear.
After a while, he vaguely heard two people talking.
"It's not that I want to come find you, the key is that this guy behind me is crazy. I just picked him up, and he gave me a punch. If you don't cure him, how will the subsequent plan work?"
Then Injustice Superman heard a sigh. Another figure appeared in front of him, holding his hand and waving it in front of his eyes.
"Wake up, Clark. Wake up."
He heard the other party's call, but couldn't respond. He seemed unable to move at all.
"This won't work," he heard the other party say. "Let him go to the next layer of the dream."
"Ding-a-ling!"
A crisp bell sound came from the room. A strong arm stretched out from the quilt and waved hard; the alarm clock fell to the ground and stopped ringing.
Clark opened his eyes groggily and saw Lois with her long hair scattered, sitting by the bed applying face cream.
"What time is it?"
"It's 9 o'clock, honey."
"Oh no, I'm going to be late!" He drilled out of the quilt, ran to the bathroom in a hurry, and then heard Lois's voice coming from the bedroom:
"Today is Sunday, you don't need to go to the Justice League meeting. But you have an appointment with your psychologist at 10 o'clock, you have to hurry."
"Psychologist?"
"Yes, didn't you say you were a bit anxious when you were finishing your draft a while ago? I made an appointment for you with the psychologist my classmate introduced to me; he's very hard to get an appointment with, don't be late."
"... Oh, be there in a minute," Clark answered groggily.
Standing up from the toilet, he turned on the faucet of the sink. A pair of light blue eyes reflected on the water surface. Suddenly, some tragic scenes appeared before his eyes.
"Uh..."
Clark covered one side of his head, his elbow propped on the sink, and fell painfully to the other side. Just as he was about to fall, he barely stabilized his figure.
Lois pushed the door open and asked him: "What's wrong? Are you okay?"
Clark looked up at her suddenly, reached out and grabbed her arm, and then hugged her. Feeling the real touch in his arms, Clark let out a long breath.
"It's okay, I might just... had a nightmare."
"Nightmare? What did you dream of?"
"Dreamed that someone killed you, a lunatic."
"You're just under too much pressure," Lois said. "When you see the psychologist today, you can talk to him about it, and it will be better soon."
Clark nodded and didn't say anything more. He finished washing up, put on his coat, and went out. After getting into the car, he found a business card next to the steering wheel, on which was written in gold-stamped fancy English—"Schiller Rodriguez".
The car stopped in front of a two-story building. Clark knocked on the door, and there was some movement in the house. Soon, a man walked over and opened the door.
He was wearing a well-fitting suit and glasses, looking very much like a psychologist. Clark followed him into the room.
"Dr. Rodriguez?" Clark asked.
Schiller nodded, picked up the appointment list on the side, took a look at Clark, and said: "Clark Kent, reporter for the Daily Planet?"
Clark nodded. Schiller led him to sit on the sofa next to him and said: "Is this your first time seeing a psychologist?"
Clark nodded again, reached out and touched his lips, and sat on the sofa with his legs together, looking a bit cautious.
"Don't be nervous, this is easier than surgery," Schiller sat opposite him, looking into his eyes and saying, "Your state really doesn't look very good. I saw on your appointment reason that the work pressure is too high, can you talk about your work?"
"Just some... interviews and writing reports, nothing special," Clark said dryly.
"It seems the problem isn't here," Schiller took the water glass on the side, poured a glass of water for Clark, and said, "Before you came, Ms. Lois called me and said you had a nightmare about her, do you want to talk about it?"
"I don't know..."
"Don't know what?"
"I dreamed she died, but it seemed like she didn't. I don't know if I'm still in a dream."
"Can you tell me in detail?"
"She was killed by a criminal."
"Where? Where was she killed?"
"It seems like... it seems like Cat Getan."
"Cat Getan? Are you sure?"
"Yes, it was in Cat Getan."
"There is no city called Cat Getan, where did you get this word from?"
"What?" Clark opened his mouth in surprise. He looked at Schiller and said, "No Cat Getan? Then... then what is the city next to Metropolis?"
"You mean the one next to New York? Boston or Philadelphia?"
"Not New York, Metropolis, that's where we are now..."
"We are in New York right now."
Clark sat there blankly. Suddenly, he stood up, feeling everything around him spinning.
"I must be dreaming," Clark said. "I'm still in a dream, it must be that damn Joker's conspiracy again! He sent me into a new dream..."
"Calm down, Clark. Who is the Joker again? Is he the criminal who killed Lois?"
"Yes, that's him! You are his accomplice too!" Clark shouted at Schiller, "What exactly do you want to do?! I won't let you succeed!"
"It seems your situation is really not good, you already have very typical symptoms of mental confusion and delirium. I think I need to recommend you to a more professional hospital, medication might make you feel better."
"No, this is a dream," Clark said through gritted teeth. "This is my dream, so I can do whatever I want. I want you to disappear, I want all of this to disappear!"
Schiller stood opposite him and looked at him, saying: "Fine, as you wish."
Everything suddenly shattered, leaving only endless darkness.
