Chapter 3601: Injustice League (1)
A dim yellow sunset. Then screams, blood, and crazy laughter, roars echoing in the ears. The smell of blood kept drifting into the nose. Something was being chased by endless malice. Jumping down from a towering building...
Batman woke up suddenly.
He breathed rapidly for a few times, but soon lifted the quilt and sat on the bed, rubbing his face hard.
He had another nightmare. Certain fragments repeatedly appeared in his dreams. Even Batman had to admit that Superman occupied a far more important position in his life than he expected. The day the tragedy happened became a common nightmare that neither of them could escape.
Superman was going crazy. Batman knew this.
With a "bang," the door was opened. Batman, as expected, saw those cold, light blue eyes.
"When are they coming?"
Batman looked up at him. At that time, there seemed to be no emotion in his eyes, but something was brewing under the ice, exuding shocking malice and madness.
"I don't know," Batman said, "I have no way to be sure. And, they won't be willing to help you."
"They must help me." Superman stared at him dead and said, "As long as I can go back to the past, I can save Lois; this is easy for them. They must help me!"
Batman slowly closed his eyes. He knew Superman had stepped into an irredeemable trap.
Resurrection, rebirth, going back to the past, reversing tragedy.
No. There was nothing in this world that didn't require a price. Batman thought. When they reset their universe, they retained the memories of outsiders, perhaps waiting for a fish to take the bait.
Batman had a lot to say. He wanted to tell Superman that the opposite side could indeed easily reset the universe's time, but they would never use this power to help you. He also wanted to tell Superman that even if he could go back to the past, they might not be able to save Lois, and everything would be very difficult to move in a good direction.
But looking at his crazy look, Batman couldn't say anything.
When he discovered in another universe that time was actually reversing, how could he not be shocked by the power of this great force, how could he not have had the thought of going back to the past to save the tragedy? How could he blame Superman?
But that was a group of lunatics. Batman realized very deeply. They threw their universe into and out of the river of time, like playing ducks and drakes with a stone. This was by no means a rational approach. They couldn't take this risk.
Batman saw through a deeper layer of things. That universe could use this move because they worked together, and their madness was all in one place.
But their universe couldn't. Superman wanted to use their power to go back to the past to save Lois, Batman wanted to use their power to go back to the past to save his parents. Then what about Wonder Woman? Green Lantern? The Flash?
Everyone wanted this power. This would eventually lead to a terrible tragedy. Batman wouldn't allow this to happen.
But he knew he couldn't stop the Superman who had already gone crazy. He had no way to convince him, and no way to stop him in behavior. He could only wait.
Their mission in that universe failed.
In countless loops, Batman had also led the resistance army, or taken advantage of Brainiac's resistance to other invaders to do some small actions behind his back.
But time was too tight. The potential shown by this AI that was about to be driven crazy was unimaginably large, even several times more terrifying than the one they were facing now. They ultimately didn't succeed.
Battleworld wouldn't care about universe resets. Time hadn't been reversed; it had been moving forward. The mission naturally failed due to overtime.
Before leaving, they invited the Justice League of this universe to go to their universe to solve Brainiac's trouble. But this time, it wasn't Batman who extended the invitation, but Superman.
But Batman knew very well that Superman didn't really want to cooperate.
What he wanted was that power to reverse time. As long as he had this power, no tragedy or enemy would be a problem anymore.
He wanted to trap them here and force them to hand over that power. Just like he once killed the Joker and ruled Earth with violence and power.
Failure didn't make him learn a lesson, but the sweetness he had tasted made him even crazier. When Batman wanted to stop him, everything was too late.
He made a completely wrong decision. He shouldn't have let Superman out. Batman thought, it was definitely not him shirking responsibility. If someone had to be responsible for Superman's madness, it must be the Justice League of that universe.
They did something to Superman's emotions. For a long time, Superman's emotional changes were very wrong. He became a real iceberg, and even Batman couldn't shake him at all.
This led to the fact that when he saw time could flow backward again, his emotions erupted in an instant, setting off terrifying waves and completely destroying the bottom line of reason. He didn't care anymore.
They did it on purpose. Batman knew.
This was a trap. A trap aimed at the emotionally unstable Superman.
For someone who had suffered trauma, an opportunity to go back to the past and reverse tragedy was enough to make people lose their reason. They had paved the way for so long, hidden their plan for so long, until it finally erupted, all to make Superman develop a crazy greed for this power.
Let greed blind his eyes, and then use his strength and madness to kidnap others in this universe, making them have to open the door and invite the wolf into the house.
They succeeded. Batman sighed heavily in his heart. He knew what kind of reckless and stupid plan the Injustice League had formulated while he was resting.
They wanted to invite the opposite Justice League over in the name of fighting Brainiac, find a way to defeat and imprison the weak among them, and then threaten those among them who possessed the power to reverse time, forcing them to do things for him.
They felt that this way they could use the power of time unscrupulously and reverse every tragedy they wanted to save.
Everyone was greedy.
When they didn't know this power existed, they convinced themselves to accept tragedy, then let time heal the trauma, turn those misfortunes into the past, try to live the present well, and summon the courage to face the future.
But when they knew everything could be saved, the world changed completely in their eyes. Facing those pasts they weren't satisfied with, they could change them endlessly.
But what kind of change would be considered good?
Resurrect Lois, and Superman could live a happy life with her again. But what if they encountered danger again one day? He would still choose to use this power to save the other party.
What if they had a conflict one day? Would Superman also want to go back to the past and change certain things in the past to prevent the conflict from happening?
What if they quarreled one day? Would he also want to go back and say the things he said wrong again?
Reversing the past endlessly would make people adjust the standard of tragedy lower and lower. From the initial loss of life, to things not going well, to negative emotions in a certain moment.
They wouldn't choose to accept; they would only want to do it again.
This was by no means a way of survival that carbon-based lifeforms could accept. People in that universe had the confidence to control it well, but their universe couldn't. No means no; there was no intermediate state of trying it out.
Completely wrong. Batman thought. But he really couldn't stop it anymore.
Batman had never hoped so much that the Justice League, which he had complained about as unreliable countless times in his heart, could be a little more reliable this time, stop these idiots with water in their brains, and don't mess anything up again.
Batman lay back on the bed, saying nothing. Superman stood by the bed. He said: "You can lead the resistance army to deal with Brainiac and reorganize the order of Earth. I don't care anymore."
After speaking, he waved his cape and turned to leave.
Batman pressed his arm over his eyes. His head was full of the dream just now. The Joker's laughter, the crowd's screams, played in his head over and over again until he fell into a drowsy sleep again.
In the base, members of the Justice League and the Injustice League sat together. This wasn't the first time; since Brainiac's invasion, the two sides had temporarily ceased fire and reached cooperation.
Originally, the Justice League camp lacked Green Arrow Oliver, because he had unfortunately died in the process of fighting the Superman regime. And on the Injustice League side, there were many criminals familiar to people, such as Scarecrow and Bane, as well as Hal, who first became a Yellow Lantern and later turned back into a Green Lantern.
Superman sat in front of everyone. He rubbed the wedding ring on his hand. Wonder Woman noticed this action. She spoke first: "Batman once used the power of the Justice League from other universes to defeat you, Superman. You can do the same. If they used the method of reversing time to defeat Brainiac, then we can do the same."
"Playing with time is very dangerous." The Flash had to speak up, "That will bring unpredictable consequences."
"But they didn't have any accidents," Wonder Woman said, "They didn't even reverse it just once, but many, many times, so helping us reverse it once is nothing."
The Flash remained silent, obviously not agreeing.
"How is Batman?" Green Lantern asked.
"He is resting," Superman said, "I just found out that he still needs to rest."
"He just wants to oppose you," Wonder Woman said, "He has always been such a person, not considering your situation, nor the situation of Earth, just opposing you for the sake of opposing you."
Wonder Woman put her arms on the table and said: "He clearly hits criminals hard, but only blames you for killing the Joker; he clearly has summoned the Justice League from other universes, but resists passively when you want to ask others for help."
"Clearly Brainiac is pressing down on the border now, and other universes have already had successful experience in using time reversal to fight Brainiac, but he is unwilling to stand up and help you persuade them to help. In my opinion, you are just too kind to him."
Many people standing on Batman's side glared at her. But Batman chose to avoid it, and they had no way.
Wonder Woman suddenly reached out and held Superman's hand, saying: "Don't worry, I will always stand with you. Batman can use people from other universes to defeat you, then you can naturally cast him aside. We can talk to them. They will help you. They must help you." ===== CHAPTER 3602 =====
