Chapter 3793

~11 min read 2,088 words

"The Night Owl infiltrated the Forbidden Forest and found traces of someone's activity there. I suspect those traces might also have been arranged by the production crew. Judging by the plot of the first movie, this should be the activity traces of the main villain, Safir. The secret room we're currently using should also be Safir's base according to the setting."

"What do you want to do?" Arkham Batman turned his head to look at the speaking Prime Universe Batman and asked.

"When we discovered the slime on Shiler, what did we do?"

"You mean, he'll go to the library to look up information."

"Even if he isn't Bruce Wayne, he's still Batman. Every Batman trusts the data on paper, the theoretical data more. Those things can only be found in the library."

"But that book..." Arkham Batman said with some difficulty, "It's fine to fool movie audiences who don't know better. But anyone who's received higher education and has research experience will discover it's a load of nonsense, inconsistent with the current level of magical development in this universe."

"So we won't use this book." Prime Universe Batman said, "We'll compile a more realistic, more logical one."

"You mean you want to compile a bestiary?" Grand Adventure Batman said with some surprise, "But the Night Owl should be going to the library soon. Even if we write without sleep, we won't make it in time, right?"

"So we split into two groups. One group goes to give him some trouble, keep him too busy to go to the library to research; the other group starts compiling the magical bestiary. And don't forget, we're magic users now. The essence of magic is making thoughts reality."

Prime Universe Batman took another wand from the side, then picked up Safir's notebook. He laid the notebook flat, then pointed the wand at a blank space, and a line of text quickly emerged.

"Wow." Grand Adventure Batman exclaimed, "That's much faster than writing it yourself. Can it draw pictures?"

Prime Universe Batman paused for a moment. He concentrated, and a lifelike illustration appeared in the notebook. Then he channeled some magic power into it, and actually made the illustrations move.

"Perfect. I can't think of anything that could fool that guy." Arkham Batman said, "Then you handle the compilation, I'll go give him some trouble."

"Don't use force." Prime Universe Batman said, "Although beating him up and putting him in the infirmary for ten days to half a month is the most effective way to buy time, Shiler is the most unstable factor in all the plans. If possible, it's best not to let them come into contact."

"Then we'll have to distract him... I have a way." Arkham Batman said.

The group discussed for a while, then returned to the dormitory. After Prime Universe Batman and Arkham Batman returned to the dormitory, they didn't rest immediately. Prime Universe Batman stared out the window for a while, looking in the direction of the Forbidden Forest.

The next morning, Shiler was woken up by Arkham Batman again. After opening the door, he looked somewhat helplessly at the tall figure standing at the door and said: "What is it this time? Who got hurt?"

"No one's hurt, Doctor. I just don't want to attend this morning's History of Magic class, so I came here to hide."

"Batman actually skipping class..." Shiler couldn't help but say.

"I don't know about others, but I do." Arkham Batman entered the office, then said, "Can I borrow your study for a bit?"

"You really don't treat yourself as an outsider."

"An outsider wouldn't pay your bills."

Shiler sighed, led him to the private reception room on the second floor, then said: "You'd better not be planning any dangerous experiments here, otherwise you'll find out the last bill didn't even let me show my true strength."

"Don't worry, Doctor."

After Arkham Batman went in, Shiler didn't pay him any mind. The Batman from the Arkham Knight universe was dangerous when he said dangerous, safe when he said safe. He was the straightforward type, ruthless to enemies but no hidden agendas with friends. If he couldn't do something he wouldn't agree to it, and most of the time he was still very reliable.

Today Shiler really had to start memorizing lines. He stayed in the first floor of the office, reading the script carefully. Although his memory wasn't an issue, often knowledge just wouldn't stick, and the more he read the less he absorbed.

Especially since this one had a lot of internal monologue dialogue scenes, all huge blocks of lines. Shiler was starting to regret participating in the movie shoot.

This morning was another joint class with Neptune Academy and Mercury Academy. The Night Owl keenly noticed that neither Arkham Batman nor Prime Universe Batman were present. And this wasn't the first time they'd skipped class, which was extremely suspicious.

Batman skipping class wasn't unexpected, but the key question was what they went off to do after skipping.

The Night Owl knew well how formidable these two were: ten minutes to cobble together a production line, half an hour to arm an arsenal, one hour to conquer the Atlantic, half a day to launch from the ground to the moon. The two of them had skipped nearly seven hours of classes total; who knew, by the time they showed up again they might have transformed into Sorcerer Supremes?!

The more the Night Owl thought about it, the more he felt something was off. He had a feeling these two were secretly grinding behind his back. Plus he had no interest in those mythological stories, so halfway through the class he used the bathroom as an excuse and slipped away.

The magic school didn't only have students of their year; there were also many mages from Kamar-Taj. The Night Owl came to the door of Neptune Academy's lounge and asked several people before he managed to get a trace of the two's whereabouts.

Prime Universe Batman naturally went to the library. The Night Owl wasn't surprised at all. That guy was definitely secretly making up lessons behind his back, using the garbage time spent listening to myth stories to study magical theory. Although the Night Owl also feared he'd learn too fast, he also knew magic wasn't a subject you could improve at just by cramming books.

Arkham Batman's destination was what worried him more. The Night Owl learned from Haivenxing Academy's students that Arkham Batman had been frequently running to the infirmary these past few days.

This was very strange. Although brawls had been frequent recently, no one who got hurt had hurt Arkham Batman. It was basically always him taking on multiple opponents and pinning them down. Last time the Sorcerer Supreme came to break up a fight, he nearly took a punch from him. Although he'd injured his arm before, such a minor injury shouldn't require hospitalization, right?

There's definitely something fishy going on. Arkham Batman definitely isn't going there to recuperate. The Night Owl felt his deduction was correct. But what in the infirmary is worth him running there so often?

The Night Owl had gone to the infirmary before and hadn't seen anything special. If forced to say, only the school doctor was somewhat special. He'd also heard of Shiler's great reputation.

Wait. Although Shiler isn't a Batman, being able to have such a reputation in the Doujie shows he's very strong. Since I can go recruit those Evil Supermen, it's not impossible for Arkham Batman to recruit Shiler.

Thinking of this, the Night Owl couldn't sit still. Superman is indeed strong, and a bottomless Evil Superman is even more a sharp blade. But Superman's strength is clear and open, while Shiler he can't figure out.

The Night Owl hadn't encountered many Shilers; the one who left the deepest impression was the Agent. Although the Agent's skills were good and he did things cleanly and efficiently, he didn't feel as outrageous as the rumors. The other Shilers didn't look particularly special either. So why exactly do so many people treat him as the Doujie's number one mastermind behind the scenes?

Everything about Shiler is shrouded in a layer of mist, making it impossible to see clearly or deduce anything. But the Night Owl's intuition told him this guy isn't simple, and he absolutely cannot be allowed to stand on the opposing side.

Of course, last time conspiring with the Batman Who Laughs definitely offended the Agent. But just like with Batman, different universe counterparts have different alignments, and their stances aren't necessarily exactly the same. Offending one doesn't mean you can't recruit another.

Thinking of this, the Night Owl hurried toward the infirmary. He couldn't let Arkham Batman get there first. Even if he couldn't recruit Shiler himself, he couldn't let Arkham Batman succeed!

Walking on the road, the Night Owl couldn't help but ponder. The conflict between him and Prime Universe Batman, between good and evil, never had a way out. It wasn't that he wanted to duel Prime Universe Batman, but these righteous Batmans couldn't tolerate the existence of evil.

Although the Night Owl hid his universe of origin, the Batmans would find out sooner or later that he personally killed his parents and younger brother. Even if his parents were corrupt and deserved to die, his younger brother Little Bruce was truly innocent. And over so many years, the number of innocent people who died by his hand was unknown. Based on this alone, there was no possibility of reconciliation between them.

Since there was no way out, he had to go all out. And this kind of struggle is a zero-sum game. The opponent advances one step, he must retreat one step. The opponent wins the support of a strong person, he loses a strong person and faces even greater pressure.

Although currently the struggle between the two sides is still confined within the Batman collective, at most affecting the Justice League. But it's foreseeable that before long, a great war between good and evil will erupt in the Doujie.

And what makes the Night Owl very anxious is that the division between good and evil isn't as simple as it appears on the surface. For example, although the Joker appears evil, the Prime Universe Joker might not actually stand on his side against their universe's Batman, and might even stand with Prime Universe Batman at a critical moment.

The resources he initially invested in the Batman Who Laughs have already gone down the drain. Even though he also wasted Prime Universe Batman's time, he still has no advantage. Every step from now on must be sufficiently cautious; the slightest carelessness means eternal damnation.

With a heavy heart, the Night Owl knocked on the door of Shiler's office. Shiler hurriedly locked the script into the drawer. He had also signed an NDA, and he didn't want to pay damages.

Chris trusted Shiler greatly, giving him the complete script, which contained not only his scenes but others' as well. If this thing got leaked, it would cause a huge sensation on the internet, and even Jarvis might not be able to contain it. At that point his compensation would be an astronomical figure, and if it affected the second movie's box office, he wouldn't be able to answer to anyone.

Shiler was nervous about the script's security, but this expression in the Night Owl's eyes became proof that he had stumbled upon Shiler and Arkham Batman's conspiracy, which was why Shiler was so nervous.

Although Shiler wasn't a professor, he was the school doctor, in charge of such a large infirmary. Setting a trap for them would be too easy. Thinking of this, the Night Owl walked quickly to the opposite side of the desk and sat down.

"What's wrong?" Shiler asked, "Are you feeling unwell somewhere?"

"I just... am not too interested in History of Magic, want to find a place to self-study. Do you have a study here?"

Shiler was a bit speechless; these Batmans, what is wrong with each of them? Want to self-study but don't go to the library, come to the infirmary?

There is a study, but there's an Arkham Batman hiding inside. If you really go in, I'll have work to do.

"No." Shiler could only say, "If you really want to stay here, go to the ward. The ward where the chandelier fell hasn't been repaired yet, no one's in there. You can stay there."
