Chapter 3820

~11 min read 2,012 words

The night in Cat Getan, having just stepped into summer, is passionate. Palm trees by the beach sway in front of neon signs. With a "pssh" sound, a hand in fingerless gloves opens a beer, and white foam surges out. The flowing liquid carves a path like Moses parting the sea on the can, which is condensing cold water mist, then washes away the fine sand on the uneven wooden table, and after falling through the gaps in the wood grain onto the sandy ground, it carries the sand along and slides into the pit made by plastic slippers.

A foot in slippers taps lightly on the ground. A hand in tactical gloves rests on the armrest of the chair. Arkham Knight pulls up the mask on his chin and pours a few gulps of beer into his mouth.

"The latest call from Washington." Robin, sitting opposite him, puts down the beer can in his hand and says, "The Justice League is going to build a new base. Right in Cat Getan. See that sea? There will soon be a new ugly building there."

"Don't say that, Robin." Barbara shakes her head lightly. Her golden-red hair flies in the evening breeze, and on her red-and-white polka-dot headband, the shadows of palm leaves appear and disappear.

"Ever since he became president, every building built in Cat Getan has been ugly. Are you trying to say that?" Nightwing interrupts Barbara. And Barbara just looks at him helplessly.

"We gathered here today, not to discuss these boring questions." Arkham Knight puts down the beer can, making a dull "thud" sound, and says with finality, "We cannot let the Justice League go on like this anymore."

"What do you mean?" Barbara asks.

"They are not loyal enough." Arkham Knight says, "They want preferential treatment but are unwilling to pay the price; they fear power but are unwilling to take measures. And Bruce chooses to let them do as they please. Do you really think it's good for things to go on like this?"

"You mean they hope Bruce will give up the position of president? This is nothing but wishful thinking. Now that the fifty states are united as one, the federal situation is excellent. Mr. President will absolutely not give up at this time." Robin says.

"I usually don't want to stand on your side, Jason." Nightwing speaks up, "But this time is different; I agree with you. The Justice League manages a bit too much. Why can't Batman be president? He has already fulfilled his obligations to Cat Getan. We are also helping him. He just wants to make this country better. Why do they think he can't do it?"

"It's obvious, they want to meddle in Cat Getan again now." Arkham Knight says, "Otherwise they wouldn't have chosen the location for the new base on Cat Getan's coastline. This isn't just a matter of adding an ugly building."

"I can understand them." Barbara says, "After Bruce took office, he adopted many relatively radical measures. The initiatives to focus on real industry and restore industrialization, while benefiting the working class, are a threat to the vampires on Diamond Street. They caused a huge mess, and some people died. The Justice League can't stand to see this."

"Yeah, in their view, as long as you talk slowly with those old masters, everything can be solved peacefully. But from the moment our identities were exposed, I knew it was impossible." Robin snorts coldly and says.

"They might not be bad, just too naive." Barbara shakes her head and says, "From the moment the Batman family's identities were exposed, we had no way back."

"What do you plan to do?" Nightwing asks. His gaze sweeps around and finally rests on Arkham Knight's face.

"Do you know why they want to build a new base?" Arkham Knight asks, then he shakes his head lightly and says, "He told me part of his plan before. The Justice League will have some new members."

"You mean, he wants to use new members to balance the forces? Doesn't sound like his style." Barbara frowns slightly and says, "I'd rather believe he would drive the Batmobile and knock those who oppose him flying."

"That was a long time ago." Arkham Knight says, "Now he is president, he can't do that. Although I also think the people he finds won't be good people."

"Human-shaped Batmobile? Sounds not bad either." Robin laughs and says, "It would be best if he could knock them head over heels."

"The base won't be built that fast, but the new members will come soon. We can contact them before they move into the base." Arkham Knight states his plan, "Since they were found by Batman, they should lean towards Batman. We must ensure they aren't brainwashed by that group of 'saints' in the Justice League."

"You're taking it too seriously." Barbara says disapprovingly, "Their conflicts haven't intensified to that point. Superman agrees with most of Batman's measures, and Wonder Woman only has some opinions on Batman's diplomatic plans. We can't make them antagonistic."

"Why do you think Batman wants to find new people?"

Barbara looks at Arkham Knight, who asked the question.

"Perhaps he feels that the conflict is about to intensify to another level soon. This means he is about to take action."

The others become nervous. Nightwing puts both hands on the table and asks: "You got news?"

Arkham Knight shakes his head and says: "If there really were news, he should have told his assistant, right? Robin?"

Robin drinks his beer silently without speaking.

"What would he have to do to intensify the Justice League's conflict to the point where he has to introduce new external forces to balance it?" Barbara asks in a low voice, while also thinking.

"Before he makes a move, no one can guess his purpose, but I think the new members he finds will at least know part of the plan. We have to go to them to fish for intelligence."

"That's not good." Barbara shakes her head and says, "Jason, you're still this bold. Do you want to be beaten until you can't get out of bed for a month again?"

"Heh, it wasn't a month. At most 20 days, and I only lost to him by three moves." Arkham Knight says.

"Jumping onto the presidential vehicle while the world's media was present, and even breaking the windshield. You really didn't suffer those three punches unjustly." Robin can't help but complain, "If we did that, we might be hung on Capitol Hill."

"Don't test Batman." Nightwing says, "It's been so many years, haven't you learned yet? Anything he doesn't want you to know, you can't possibly know in advance. Even if you do know, it's fake intelligence. Are you sure what you ask out of the new members won't be another trap?"

"Even if it is, so what. At worst, I'll lie down for another 20 days." Arkham Knight acts completely unconcerned.

Seeing his "tough guy" attitude, the others shake their heads helplessly. Nightwing and Barbara exchange a look. Barbara asks: "Do you know what kind of people Batman is looking for?"

Arkham Knight shakes his head and says: "Probably just another superhero dug out from some mountain ravine. This person doesn't need to be too strong, a little cleverness is enough."

"Do you guys feel..." Robin stops mid-sentence.

"What?" Arkham Knight turns his head to look at him, but finds Robin looking up at the sky.

The others also look up, but after looking for a long time, they don't see anything, except for a bright moon hanging high.

"Wait, since when can you see the moon in Cat Getan?"

"This isn't right, is it?" Arkham Knight squints his eyes and says, "Today's moonlight seems a bit too bright."

Barbara also turns to look at the beach. The waves are becoming whiter under the moonlight, and even the deep sea surface has been changed to a dazzling light blue. There is no such gloom that makes one feel like falling into an abyss, but it shows a colder paleness.

Several people look towards the moon, but that bright moon does not respond, just hanging alone in the night sky, shining quietly, adding a colder and lonelier coat to this dark city.

Suddenly, a sound rings out in Barbara's headset. She presses her headset and says: "Abnormal energy fluctuations detected on the roof of Wei En Tower."

Arkham Knight crushes the empty beer can. Robin puts on his cape. Nightwing draws his short sticks. Several figures quickly head towards the city. Not long after, they arrive near Wei En Tower.

Although Wei En Tower is unique, it is far from being outstanding. Several people stand on the roofs of surrounding high-rises, but they don't see anything special on the roof of Wei En Tower.

"Where are they?" Arkham Knight asks.

"The other party moved three minutes ago." Barbara's voice comes from the headset, "Now they seem to be near the Central Plaza."

Several people chase after them, but still see nothing. Robin wants to go down from the roof to check carefully, but Arkham Knight stretches out his arm to stop him and says: "Don't go down. There's something strange."

He looks up at the moon in the sky again. But just this one look seems to have been dazzled by a strong flash, and he stays in place for several seconds before reacting. But when he looks up again, the moon is a normal moon, as if that strong light just now was just an illusion.

"Return to my base." Arkham Knight says.

Robin takes one last look at the ground, but still follows Arkham Knight away. They return to Arkham Knight's new base. Barbara has already sent the surveillance video.

Without exception, the places where abnormal energy fluctuations appeared were all lit up very brightly by the moonlight. Although there were no figures, the abnormal optical phenomenon alone was enough to be eye-catching.

"What do you think could have caused this?" Arkham Knight's fingers tap lightly on the table.

"It's hard to judge for now. But if you say it's a superpower, it's a bit too weird. Whose superpower can affect the moon?"

"My judgment is exactly the opposite of yours; this should be a trick played by a superpowered person." Arkham Knight squints his eyes and says, "It seems this new member Batman found has big plans."

"Can you lock onto where he will appear next by monitoring the changes in optical phenomena and analyzing their locations?" Arkham Knight asks quickly.

"I think I can. Wait a moment." Barbara's voice remains calm and collected, and soon she says, "The route has been calculated. The next stop is... the roof of your base."

A strong figure jumps onto the roof. The moment he comes up, it's like being in a heavenly fairyland. The moonlight here is so bright that it blurs the outlines of everything; whether it's the nearby rooftop or the distant city, they all melt into a cold white light.

A slender figure stands in the moonlight, ethereal and lonely. A silver-white robe woven from moonlight moves without wind, and the long staff in his hand waves lightly. After a crisp sound, the bullets fired from Arkham Knight's gun fall to the ground.

Arkham Knight isn't angry either; he spins the two pistols in his hands and puts them back on his waist. He walks up boldly and says: "Stop playing god here with me. Who are you?"

"Moon Knight."

As the words fall, the scene in front of him suddenly disappears, and the rooftop is empty. The distant city is also as usual, as if the scene just now and the people in the scene had never existed.

Arkham Knight looks up again; thick dark clouds cover the sky and sun, making it hard to see even half a bit of daylight. Where is there any moon in the sky?

With a boom, lightning tears across the horizon. It's raining in Cat Getan again.
