Chapter 3889
A taxi with flashing lights weaves through the streets and stops in front of a fast-food restaurant. A figure in a blue hoodie opens the car door and runs out frantically, stepping into the restaurant door on the stroke of six o'clock.
"Sorry! Sorry! I'm late!" The young man in the hoodie apologizes continuously. The chubby restaurant owner waves his hand, presses on the back of his head, pushes him into the back kitchen, and says, "Hurry up, little Parker. If it weren't for the fact that there's really no one left recently, I wouldn't have called you to come! Hurry up and get to work!"
"Alright, boss!" He replies, "But, um, I haven't had dinner..."
"Then make yourself a hot dog! Don't ask me about everything!"
With a bang, the back kitchen door is closed. The young man shakes his head and says, "Alright, time to get to work; you're really like SpongeBob, right?"
After speaking, he hums a little tune, takes a hot dog bun from the shelf next to him, fries a sausage for himself, puts it in, then adds plenty of ketchup and mustard, and stuffs in a pile of pickles. Taking a bite, he lets out a satisfied sigh.
"Hey! A double beef cheeseburger combo! For our beloved Spider-Man!" The boss at the front register laughs. The young man looks out through the serving window and sees a sturdy figure in a tight suit paying at the front desk.
"Peter! It's me!" The figure runs to the serving window, sticks his head in and says, "I know you're working here, I came specifically! Beef burger with extra cheese!"
"Rest assured." The young man called Peter gives him an "OK" gesture, gathers the chopped beef sauce into a ball, then puts it on the iron plate and flattens it with a spatula. The sizzling sound and the fragrance come out together.
The radio next to them is turned on, and the host's slightly excited voice comes from inside: "The referendum result for the new city name has been announced! 'Goyork' has been selected by a high margin! This name fuses Cat Getan and New York, and at the same time has the meaning of striving upward and moving forward with all one's might; it can be said to be the best city name! Next, let's listen to the views of the new mayor, Oswald Cobblepot..."
"Oh, I said it would be this name." The person leaning outside the serving window says, "Actually, I still prefer the name 'Darklight City'; it can be said to be a perfect fusion of Cat Getan and New York's temperament. But most ordinary people feel this name is too pretentious. Sigh."
"I actually quite like the current name." Peter takes out three slices of cheese and places them on the beef patty, sticks his head out to see that the boss hasn't turned around, and then takes another pile of cheese and sprinkles it on the beef patty; finally, the entire beef patty is submerged in cheese.
He presses the two layers of beef well, sprinkles on a large handful of lettuce, covers it with the freshly baked burger bun, then scoops the fries out of the oil and puts them in a box, then puts them all in a meal box, hands it out through the serving window, and then lowers his voice and says, "Hey, Bruce, go eat outside. I put a huge, huge, huge amount of cheese in for you!"
"How many times have I told you, call me Spider-Man!" The young man called Bruce who is wearing a tight suit also lowers his voice and says, "You don't know how uncomfortable it is to stay with that group of Batmen every day! Why won't the Battleworld let me transfer to the Spider-Man side?"
"Forget it, you'd just complain it's too noisy." Peter fries another portion of fries for himself while saying, "Besides, there's usually no one at Spider-Man's base; they are all running missions in the multiverse..."
"Speaking of this, I do remember," Bruce says, "Joker told me that recently that group of Batmen seems to be collecting energy in their own universe, and even Mount Olympus was overturned by them."
"Collecting energy?" Peter frowns and says, "What do they want energy for?"
"Seems like they want to build some kind of magical defense network. I'm not too clear either; Joker didn't ask too much in the group."
"Isn't the magical defense network something from our side?"
"Oh, yes, quite a few Batmen went to a magic school on your side to study before, but I'm not interested in this kind of thing so I didn't go. I guess they discovered the magical defense network was good after going over, so they thought about getting some energy and building one themselves."
"That thing is indeed good," Peter says, "Especially the central universe, which uses the magical defense network to perfection; many Spider-Men envy it."
"Do you think we should build one too?" Bruce asks somewhat excitedly.
"Then can you go and overturn Mount Olympus?"
Bruce is like being splashed with a basin of cold water and immediately wilts. He says, "Definitely not, I can't even find the door to Mount Olympus. If it weren't for you giving me spider abilities, I wouldn't even be able to be a superhero now."
"It's not that anyone can use spider abilities effectively. Alright, how come I hear someone calling for help across the street? You go take a look quickly!"
Bruce turns his head to look immediately, and then sees someone snatching a bag in an alley on the street across. He shouts "Stop" and runs out of the restaurant with the burger.
Watching his back, Peter sighs and continues to busy himself with his work. As the peak period arrives, orders become more and more. Busy until eleven o'clock at night, Peter can finally take a break.
He takes off his greasy apron, packs two burgers for himself, Peter carries his shoulder bag and walks out of the fast-food restaurant, calculating his income and rent in his heart, and sighs silently.
Ever since the two cities of New York and Cat Getan merged, the rent has become even more exorbitantly expensive. The rent in the original New York was expensive, but as long as you lived in a more remote or unsafe community, the rent was still bearable. But Cat Getan's arrival perfectly made up for the shortcoming that the suburban rent wasn't expensive enough. Now the rent in the entire Goyork City is soaring; besides the researchers at Osborn Corp, Peter has to take on another job to maintain his life.
With the conversation with Bruce during the day circling in his mind, Peter walks silently back to the apartment he rents. After taking a shower, he throws himself onto the bed, but soon gets up again.
He tries to communicate with the Black Sun in his mind, but doesn't get a response. It has been like this for a period of time recently, but Peter doesn't feel surprised either. The god he believes in is in a shutdown state eighty percent of the time, and there aren't many times when he responds. But fortunately, the time God is shut down is one hundred percent.
Thinking while drifting off, Peter falls asleep in a daze. But he is awakened by the brightness in the middle of the night; turning his head to look, he forgot to pull the curtains before sleeping, and he doesn't know what happened outside, but it is as bright as day.
Peter wakes up with a start, jumps up, turns his head to look and realizes it is two o'clock in the morning, far from work time. He relaxes, walks slowly to the window and yawns, preparing to pull the curtains.
Suddenly, another burst of strong light. Peter narrows his eyes, looks out the window, and sees a bright moon. The moonlight ripples in front of his eyes like white gauze, and then turns into real fabric. The white cloak brushes across Peter's cheek; Peter turns his head following this force and sees a person wearing a white robe, wearing a hood, and holding a long staff standing on the balcony railing.
Peter is startled and hurries to retreat. The other party reaches out, and soon, the moonlight forms mysterious patterns. Peter didn't recognize them at first, but his super-strong memory allows him to quickly recognize that these are the patterns on the Black Sun.
"Are you also an apostle of His?" Peter asks.
The other party nods. Peter relaxes and says, "Scared the hell out of me, I thought the Sinister Six had come to the door. What are you here for? Does He have any mission for me?"
With a clatter, something is thrown at Peter's feet. Peter walks over, picks it up and looks at it, and finds it is a gem flashing with light.
"Wait, this wouldn't be an Infinity Stone, right?"
Peter looks at the gem left and right, but doesn't see anything special. Then he discovers the other party shakes his head, taps the staff lightly on the ground, and magical ripples ripple out from the gem.
"Oh, my God," Peter exclaims, "This contains magical energy? Where did you get it? You wouldn't have gone and overturned Mount Olympus, right?"
The other party shakes his head again and points the staff at the sky. Although he doesn't know why, Peter immediately understands his meaning. He says, "Are you asking me to take the energy to build a magical defense network? But I haven't built this thing..."
Soft moonlight drags a stack of blueprints over. Peter takes them and looks, and it is actually the blueprints for a magical defense network. He immediately starts reading, and after a while says, "Fortunately, it's actually not very complicated. I'll find Spider-Man to study it tomorrow."
The bright moonlight flashes, and when Peter wakes up again, the alarm clock by the bed is ringing non-stop. He turns off the alarm and sits up, thinking he had an absurd dream.
As a result, just after getting up, he touches the gem on the nightstand, and the stack of blueprints is well placed in the drawer. Peter cannot help but take the blueprints out to look again, looks at the very complex patterns on them, hesitates for a moment, and puts the blueprints into his bag.
"Hey!! I have something I want you to see." Peter knocks on the door and walks into Harry Osborn's office. He takes the blueprints out of his bag and then says, "Have you heard of the magical defense network? That's right, the one that was on Earth before; we seem not to have it now. Do you think we should rebuild one?"
Harry takes the blueprints. He thought Peter was joking, but after seeing the very detailed blueprints, he raises his eyebrows and says, "Are you serious? But neither of us knows magic..."
"Of course, and I also obtained enough magical energy." Peter takes the gem out again and says, "You know, it's the one given to me by the god I believe in; he's actually quite decent. I heard that the Batmen in the multiverse are all building them, and we merged with Cat Getan, so we have to do something."
Little Osborn frowns slightly and says, "Did you feel something?"
"Stop it, I don't have spider sense at all." Peter shakes his head.
"It's different, Peter. Even without spider abilities, your intuition is shockingly accurate. I'm afraid I have to tell you some bad news: recently, some unusual accidents happened on the mutant side; they destroyed one of my thermal power plants, and I am investigating this matter."
"How come something happened again?" Peter frowns tightly and says, "A while ago Magneto and Superman had a fight; if Professor X hadn't come out to mediate, they would have almost destroyed the sun. It hasn't been a week yet, right?"
"Yes, that's why I said these are unusual accidents. The explanation given to me by Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters is that this was not a mutant ability outbreak or any sudden loss of control, but that two mutants had some conflicts."
"Conflicts? You mean two mutants fought and destroyed your thermal power plant? But the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants would release news before starting a war, how come this time it happened silently..."
"Of course it's because the two mutants who had the conflict this time are both X-Men." Shaking his head, "Professor X didn't tell me much; although it might just be an ordinary accident, I always feel a bit uneasy. You coming to find me today makes me feel even more that this might be the prelude to some disaster."
