Chapter 3913: MU: Super-Body Big Event (4)
Washington. Presidential Office. 3:00 PM.
The huge floor-to-ceiling windows reflected eyes as icy blue as a polar storm and the man's handsome face. He pursed his lips slightly, solemn as a statue. His lowered eyelids masked a complex gaze, and his whole person exuded a cold, stern temperament. The merciful and kind God of Mankind revealed another kind of ignorant and cold-blooded divinity, more like a cold, indifferent God from the Old Testament than the Jesus of the New Testament.
This was the scene the Main Universe Batman saw when he walked into the office. He didn't know much about Injustice Superman, but at this moment, the difference in temperament between him and the Superman he knew still made him feel astonished.
On the way here, he had already learned: after the Brainiac invasion in the universe where the Injustice League was located, Injustice Superman changed his previous strategy of ruling the Earth by force, instead becoming the supreme ruler of the Federation through legal means, and the speed of the three powers becoming one was much faster than the Arkham Batman.
Compared to his actions, the Arkham Batman had also become a moderate reformer. In just one day, there was no democracy left on this vast continent: Congress was directly dissolved, military mutinies were violently suppressed, and public protests were useless. From then on, there was only one star on the Stars and Stripes, and that was the great President Kent.
No one would have thought that on the day the "Kent Act" was promulgated, Clark Kent became the greatest president in American history in the mouths of millions. In fact, he did it.
When the Main Universe Batman saw the harsh tax policies against the rich in the bill, one by one, he knew that Superman had become a "Superman" in another sense. Thanks to Rao, he was given a steel body that would never die from assassination, and he used this body to block the hail of bullets aimed at the poor. Greatness was well-deserved.
Therefore, the Main Universe Batman's mood was complex. He knew how many people would die in the process of violent rule, how many people would fall from the clouds, and how many people would stand up from the mud.
He also knew how much disaster this Superman and the Injustice League he formed had brought to the Earth: how many innocent people had died at his hands, and how many evil people had escaped because of his tyranny.
But no matter what, he had liberated countless people in the Americas and even the world who were trapped in poverty, and eliminated the original sin that bound 90% of the world's people—exploitation.
Just this point alone made it impossible for the Main Universe Batman to stand on the moral high ground to talk to him, but only to pick up the steps from the bottom of the pyramid, seeing saints lined up on both sides, while he stood in the center.
"Hello, Mr. President," the Main Universe Batman lowered his eyelids and said, "Please forgive my presumptuous visit."
"It's okay," the Main Universe Batman heard him say in a light tone, "Come, I think we can talk."
The Main Universe Batman's internal alarm bells rang. Before coming here, he had prepared for everything: including being unwelcome, being spoken to with harsh words, or even being directly expelled; of course, there was also the possibility of receiving hypocritical courtesy but not achieving any substantive results, but it definitely didn't include facing such a polite Superman.
The Main Universe Batman looked up, and when he met those eyes that were as pale as could be, he was stunned for a moment; he didn't look like Clark Kent at all.
Every Batman had had a moment of contemplation: if Krypton hadn't been destroyed, if Superman's spaceship hadn't come to Earth, if they hadn't met on this blue planet, but he had caught a glimpse of him in the depths of the universe one day, the Main Universe Batman believed that what he would see would be eyes like this, like silent ocean currents under the Arctic ice cap.
The Main Universe Batman found it hard to imagine that he would feel like a stranger to a Superman. Even if he were facing the real Kal-El, it wouldn't be like this. It was as if the Earth's wind had given this cosmic orphan another kind of carving, or it wasn't the wind, but suffering.
The Main Universe Batman's hand tightened slightly. He walked to the sofa and sat down with Injustice Superman's movements, but didn't look at his eyes again, staring straight at the reflective glass coffee table, until Injustice Superman's face suddenly appeared on it.
They sat opposite each other, but were speechless for a moment. The Main Universe Batman decided to pick a safe topic.
"How does it feel to be president?" the Main Universe Batman leaned his body forward slightly and said, "A Batman also became president. He's busy as hell now. Will my visit delay your work?"
"No," Injustice Superman said concisely, "My work isn't too busy, thanks to a good assistant. I'm actually quite interested in that President Batman; how is he doing?"
"Very good. But we've encountered some trouble recently: an unknown electronic life form is invading the multiverse. Is there no movement on your side?"
"Maybe a little. But is there anything I can't solve?" Injustice Superman revealed a very faint smile, "Solving an electronic bug won't be any harder than solving other bugs."
"Didn't he cause a mess on Earth?"
"He won't have such an opportunity. Do you know why?"
The Main Universe Batman felt those eyes staring at him, and the alarm bells began to ring violently again. But before he could react, he felt his neck being grabbed, and his whole person was lifted up. He instinctively looked down, feeling his spine frozen by the pale blue storm.
Then he suddenly discovered that Injustice Superman wasn't grabbing him; he was flying up out of thin air. This shouldn't be Superman's power.
The Main Universe Batman had to look at Injustice Superman's eyes, and when he saw the magic light flickering in them, he suddenly understood.
The Main Universe Batman was released. He fell onto the sofa, supported his body with his arms, and just happened to see Injustice Superman slowly lowering his arm. He couldn't help but frown.
He stood up from the sofa, looked straight into Injustice Superman's eyes and asked: "Where is Batman?"
"He's fine. What's wrong?"
The Main Universe Batman took a deep breath and said: "I want to see him. Let me see him."
"That probably won't work right now," Injustice Superman shook his head slowly.
The Main Universe Batman didn't ask "when can I," because he knew this answer meant "never." So he asked directly: "What is he doing?"
"He's very busy, there are many things that need to be handled. What do you want him for?"
"There are some things related to the multiverse that need his help to solve. Please believe that in a multiverse disaster, no universe can stay out of it. So we must contact him immediately."
"I don't think he can play any role in the multiverse. Besides, didn't you already contact him through the Battleworld system before?"
The Main Universe Batman's heart sank. How could Injustice Superman know that he had contacted Injustice Batman? No Batman would talk about his private communications to outsiders.
They might tell Superman about the situation within the multiverse, because that way, if something happened, they could mobilize Superman; perhaps they would also say there had been such a communication, but they would never name specifically who contacted him, and most Supermen didn't care about this.
But Injustice Superman's attitude was very firm, seeming to be very sure that it was the Main Universe Batman who contacted Injustice Batman. What made him so sure?
"I think you're mistaken; the one who contacted him before wasn't me," the Main Universe Batman decided to probe again.
"Is that so? I thought you were in such a hurry to find him... forget it. Anyway, he has no time to see you now, and I don't care about the events in the multiverse. Please go back."
If it was just feeling a bit wrong before, now the Main Universe Batman could be sure: Injustice Batman must have had an accident.
He continued to look into Injustice Superman's eyes and said: "You don't want to pay attention to the events in the multiverse, but I'm afraid you wouldn't want to accept the harassment of Batmen from the multiverse either. If you don't let me see him, many more Batmen will come looking for him later."
"So he's that important?" Injustice Superman suddenly smiled and said, "Since that's the case, I can let you see him once; anyway, it's no different from when you communicate."
"Where is he?"
"Follow me."
The Main Universe Batman followed Injustice Superman out the door. They came to the underground safe house of the White House, passed through one thick metal door after another, and came to the deepest part where no one was, but Injustice Batman wasn't there either. At the end of the room was a portal flickering with magic light.
Injustice Superman passed through the portal, and the Main Universe Batman hesitated. But he was in constant contact with Arkham Batman and the others; if there was a problem, they would arrive immediately; and he also carried a Sling Ring, which he could use to leave through a portal. Injustice Superman couldn't keep him that easily. Now it was more important to figure out Injustice Batman's condition.
The Main Universe Batman stepped into the portal. His eyes suddenly went dark, and just as he was constantly raising his vigilance, he heard a slight movement on his left. He instinctively turned his head to look, but at that moment, even his breathing stopped.
In a huge jar filled with fluorescent liquid lay a familiar figure. Injustice Superman stood in the pitch-black darkness, his voice echoing at the edge of the sky:
"Come and say hello to your good friend, Bruce. He seems very worried about you." Injustice Superman's eyes emitted white light in the darkness, looking so cold and evil, making one tremble.
"You still came," Injustice Batman's voice came, carrying the teasing tone that the Main Universe Batman had heard in the communication, light and airy, and the tone was the same as Injustice Superman's. At that moment, the Main Universe Batman felt like he wanted to vomit.
"Is this interesting?" he heard Injustice Superman ask, "Coming here just to hear me speak with another mouth?"
The Main Universe Batman resisted the horror that crawled up his spine, walked slowly toward the huge jar, and saw Injustice Batman's head floating in the liquid connected to many thin wires, with a huge machine above it, and a faint buzzing sound could be heard when walking close.
"You're crazy, Clark," the Main Universe Batman looked at the huge machine and said, "... You killed Batman."
"I didn't," Injustice Superman's voice came again, "His wisdom is the treasure of the Earth, it shouldn't be used to stop me. I just made reasonable modifications to him, letting him have a job more suitable for him. How smoothly everything is progressing."
The Main Universe Batman really felt his arms trembling. He took a deep breath, took a step back and said: "You will regret it, Kal... you will regret it." ===== CHAPTER 3914 =====
