Chapter 3973
Just as Constantine went to keep his appointment, Schiller was investigating several civilizations' planets near this galaxy. The nearby civilizations received him quite enthusiastically. Don't let the human civilization's mediocre reputation in the universe fool you; most civilizations admire strength. Since Earth defeated the three great empires single-handedly, it was naturally treated as an honored guest by most civilizations.
It just so happened that one civilization in this galaxy consisted of humanoid beings who called themselves Gray Elves, and even their historical development and galactic environment were similar to those of humans. It is said that they had already visited the Nine Realms and were preparing to stand in the same camp as Asgard and the humans in the Intergalactic Council.
Although it was unknown how Schiller had managed to get here, any human who could make it this far must be very powerful. The King of the Gray Elves invited him to tour the royal palace quite enthusiastically and chatted with him about recent interesting events on the planet.
"We have many similarities with humans. For example, we also had a long period of division, but we eventually united. We have had four major wars, each of which propelled the development of our civilization. Although we have united into a single whole, our religious beliefs remain quite complex. Different regions worship different gods, and because of this, the magic used varies somewhat..."
Schiller's heart stirred. He looked at the King and said, "In other words, you worship true Demon Gods?"
The King was a bit puzzled. He nodded and said, "Of course. We discovered the existence of Demon Gods as early as 2,000 years ago, and through tireless research, we have acquired many communication frequencies for them. We allow them to spread their faith on our planet, and they naturally reward us with power. Isn't it like that for humans?"
Schiller thought for a moment. Actually, humans don't really worship Demon Gods; their faith is more primordial, worshiping God directly. Although God is not the boss in Marvel, He possesses the special attribute of being one across all realms. While He doesn't directly grant humans power, Earth's special status in the universe shows God's favoritism toward humans.
"We are not quite the same." Schiller shook his head but didn't offer much explanation. He simply said, "When I arrived, I heard people say that a goddess had recently come here. Do you have her followers on your planet too?"
"Oh, you mean the Goddess of Holy Light, right?" The King smiled and said, "That is a quite generous lady. There are followers of hers among the royal offerings, but her main followers are on our neighboring planet. We don't know much about her either."
"Do you have a portrait of her?"
"You mean a Holy Image? Of course. We sketch a portrait for every god who has ever communicated with us. However, that is only them through our eyes and is not entirely accurate. Please, this way; we can go to the Royal Cathedral to take a look..."
Schiller followed the King to the Royal Cathedral and then saw all the portraits of Demon Gods they had drawn in the hall at the back. It could only be said that some looked relatively accurate, while others were too abstract. For example, Mephisto was just a mass of dark flames plus flickering ashes. Dormammu was drawn quite accurately, but the portrait was drawn too long ago, and he was much thinner than he is now.
At the very end, Schiller saw the portrait of the god the Gray Elves called the Goddess of Holy Light. This was a rare Demon God with a very specific image. The moment he saw that face and those green eyes, Schiller opened the Battleworld communication interface at top speed and called Constantine—who, unsurprisingly, hung up at light speed.
Schiller covered his eyes and took a deep breath. He declined the King's kind invitation to dine together, returned to his temporarily arranged quarters, and sent Constantine three 60-second voice messages in a row, which, as expected, went unanswered. Schiller stood before the window and sighed long and hard: Constantine, oh Constantine, you really can't blame society at all for you ending up like this.
By evening, Constantine finally returned. Schiller looked him up and down and found him still intact. Instead of feeling relieved, he felt a bit disappointed. So he asked, "How did it go?"
"Just wait," Constantine said, dangling a cigarette in his mouth, "it's unlikely I can trick the energy out of her, but I have other ways."
Schiller was truly a bit curious about how Constantine had managed to escape from Loki. First of all, it was impossible for him not to tease Loki. Loki isn't someone who would swallow her pride; even if her physique isn't as good as the Aesir, she's still a Frost Giant who could slap Constantine back to the solar system. Secondly, Loki appearing here must be fishing for a sting operation. As the mastermind behind the telecommunications fraud impersonating Sanctum Sanctorum employees, the fact that Loki didn't arrest him is truly a world-class wonder.
Constantine leaned back on the sofa, took a deep drag of his cigarette, let out a satisfied sigh, and then said, "What's so difficult about it? She's just a little princess with a conflicted heart. By the way, I really didn't know that the Loki of this universe is gender-fluid. Doesn't that mean she can switch between male and female at any time? That's just great."
Schiller was truly a bit annoyed by the yellow waste in his brain and couldn't help but open the window to get some fresh air. He asked, "Why didn't she beat you to death?"
Constantine smiled without answering, thinking of the scene when he had just met Loki.
"God," Constantine exclaimed, his hands trembling like an addict as he pulled a cigarette from his pocket, only to find that there was no oxygen on this planet and the cigarette wouldn't light at all. So he had to hold the cigarette in his mouth and say, "I really didn't expect it to be you who came."
"You know me?" Loki frowned as she looked at him.
"So you don't know me? Fine, let me introduce myself: Hellblazer Constantine, from the world next door. Good evening, Your Highness."
Loki watched him silently. Constantine continued, "In other universes, you're usually a prince, right? I thought you were very beautiful back then, with a pair of very lovely green eyes. But I didn't expect you to have this style as a woman."
"What did you think it would be like?"
"I thought it would be more radical. You always look like you lack a sense of security, needing a tough exterior and radical ways of doing things to help you consolidate your status. It seems you are well protected in this universe."
"I am not protected by anyone," Loki said, frowning, "I simply obtained everything I deserve."
"I agree with that, otherwise you wouldn't have met me in this image. Even if you didn't know I was Constantine, at least you should know I'm a cunning liar. You should have used a more intimidating image, or are you determined to use a beauty trap?"
Loki gave him a look of disgust, but the plans she had conceived in her mind for how to catch and punish this damn liar could no longer be used, because she had heard of Constantine's great reputation.
Although Schiller's reputation in Battleworld is very loud, most of it is discussion about his strength and methods of doing things. As for his private life, or even his private personality, basically no one knows. Constantine is different; he has no serious business at all, only scandals about his private life.
Lucifer once told Schiller plainly that sending an invitation to Constantine was the biggest mistake since the establishment of Battleworld. This is equivalent to not letting a piece of shit stay properly in the latrine, but giving him a lifetime free ticket to travel around the world.
And Schiller only felt that Lucifer had lost his mind upon hearing this. As the representative of Pride, to even compare the universe he manages to a latrine, it seems he was truly angered quite a bit.
Although most of the rumors Loki heard about Constantine were inseparable from his lower body, even so, he was still living well, hadn't been beaten to death, and with such a stinking reputation, he could still sleep with anyone he targeted, which shows he has some skills.
Just as Loki thought of this, Constantine spoke: "Let me be blunt, beauty. You're not a cop, and that Sanctum Sanctorum you guys set up is the same kind of trash as me. The only place it's better than me is that it's built on Diamond Street, so you call it finance, but it's actually still fraud."
"Since that's the case, why don't the two of us join forces? I do my scamming, you do yours, and when necessary, we can team up to put on a double act and clean out those Demon Gods together. Wouldn't that be better?"
"If you didn't stare at me with those eyes, I might have believed you," Loki narrowed her eyes and looked at him, "Any smart person wouldn't cooperate with someone like you. You would turn on us at any time, cause trouble, and then pin all the blame on us while you slip away. You don't have any credibility, sir."
Constantine suddenly laughed out loud, then burst into hearty laughter. He made a smoking motion with the cigarette in his mouth, pretended to exhale smoke, and then said, "Hahahaha, baby, I only have one question—you've stayed on Diamond Street... well, I mean Huaerjie for so long, of any person you've seen, whose credibility is better than mine?"
Loki was actually somewhat speechless.
"Which person on Huaerjie wouldn't turn on others at any time, cause trouble, and then push the blame onto someone else while they dump everything and slip away? In their view, those who don't do this are fools. Without this kind of ability, why do finance?" Constantine said.
"You're the same. Although I have to take 80% of the responsibility for this trouble, you guys also have 20% responsibility for checking loopholes. You came to find me, isn't it just because you want to push this 20% responsibility onto me? Don't pretend; you don't care at all which Demon God was scammed, and you never thought about seeking justice for them. You're just heartbroken that those energies weren't scammed into your hands." Constantine lifted the hem of his trench coat and said, "I have an idea that can slaughter more. If you want to earn, the two of us will partner up. As for how much we can get and who takes the responsibility in the end, that depends on our own abilities. How about it?"
Loki had to admit that Constantine was a negotiation master; no wonder those devils would fall into his hands. The negotiation method he used wasn't deception and concealment, but laying out all the facts clearly so you had no way to refute them, yet it was still tempting. Then he would strike at the pain point, utilizing the desires deep in everyone's heart that are hard to refuse, making you unable to refuse to cooperate with him even if you know how rotten he is.
Constantine was right; Loki didn't care at all which Demon God was scammed. Joke, they are just Demon Gods, moving energy packs in the universe. After cutting one crop, there's another. They are God's reward to intelligent life; what is there to care about whether many die or few die?
The point where she and Strange were angry was that the Demon Gods were scammed, but not by them. Those energies they were scammed out of should have belonged to them, but were taken away by others at this moment, which is why they went to such great lengths to try to recover them.
But looking at the situation now, even if you killed Constantine, you might not be able to recover the energy. This rotten person isn't that easy to kill either. Spending so many resources to hunt him down, only to end up not getting a bit of energy, is truly a huge loss.
It would be better to cooperate with him. If his tricks are really useful, it could instead bring in an extra income. Thinking this way, Loki said, "Fine, tell me, how do you want to cooperate."
