Chapter 4091

~10 min read 1,842 words

The Main Universe Batman looked at this distress signal, feeling a bit surprised. They were currently at war; sending a distress signal to their own enemy — had they gotten something wrong?

But on second thought, the other side wasn't stupid either. Seeking aid from one's opponent would definitely get back to their own side and affect morale. Yet they still chose to do so, which proved the situation might be very bad.

The Main Universe Batman frowned and sent Bruce a message: "How's the situation on your end? Can Barbatos eliminate those nightmare phantoms?"

"Eliminate? Don't make me laugh. Being able to trap them in that range is already not bad. In reality, the power constituting them is on the same level as Barbatos's dark power. Unless I can summon his main body over, there's absolutely no possibility of directly eliminating them."

Bruce's voice sounded a bit fatigued. Of course it wasn't that outputting dark power had tired him out, but rather that summoning the origin power of another great world across a great world caused countless program errors to appear again. Lucifer applied for a 15-day pause to barely fix it. Lucifer was so angry he kicked Bruce into the Lake of Eden with one foot; he had only just climbed out.

However, the power belonging to Barbatos was indeed very powerful. If one of the underlying rules on the Marvel side is "Imagination," then one of the underlying rules on the DC side is "Batman," and Barbatos happens to be the origin power of Batman's dark side. Dark power and Dream Power are on the same level.

Right now it's Bruce using Barbatos's dark power to plug the blown-open dimensional entrance that stops the Dream Power from continuing to pour out. At the same time, he uses this dark power to restrict the nightmare phantoms, trapping them within the domain of dark power so they can't run everywhere. Otherwise, the other civilizations in the universe would have suffered long ago.

But precisely because the two powers are on the same level, and Barbatos's main body isn't here, while Nightmare — who grasps most of the Dream Power — is here, Bruce's side is still at a slight disadvantage. He can now only barely control the Dream Power to prevent leakage and keep the nightmare phantoms from escaping; a counterattack or elimination is out of the question.

"I see," the Main Universe Batman said. Then he couldn't help but ask, "Since that so-called Dream Power is so dangerous, why did the other side blow open the dimensional passage and let this power escape?"

"It's been this long and you still haven't figured it out? Their side is fundamentally different from us. I know you sometimes feel the Justice League is disobedient, or rather, always acts on impulse and does reckless things. If the Justice League's disobedience level is 1, this side's superheroes' disobedience level is probably 100. They have sudden inspirations at any moment, especially those scientists. Expecting them to follow orders strictly is wishful thinking."

"But how would Greed allow them to do this? Those nightmare phantoms escaping would threaten Earth... wait, Earth's already gone, can't threaten Earth. Wait, they wouldn't be counting on this, would they?"

"Only figuring it out now?" Bruce said with some disdain. "You can borrow their power to destroy Apokolips; they can't borrow your banner to eliminate dissidents in the universe? Those two great empires are invading the Nine Realms so desperately; if they aren't given a taste of their own medicine, are they still Greed?"

The Main Universe Batman naturally understood. He hadn't realized this at first only because he didn't know how strong the Dream Power and nightmare phantoms really were, thinking they were merely some dimension-native monsters that could be easily eliminated.

But once he learned this thing was even on the same level as Barbatos's dark power, he could roughly estimate how troublesome it was. Then the severity of the matter was completely different.

Although the Main Universe Batman knew very well it was the other side's scientists who blew it up, the incident was sudden and he had no evidence. Even if he made it public, no one would believe him. The other civilizations in this universe would only think it was an accident caused by them, the outsiders, while fighting the locals, that led to certain monsters being released.

And if these monsters massacred wildly in the universe, the ones taking the blame would still be Batman, because if you hadn't come to wage war, perhaps these monsters wouldn't have been released. Even the Dream Dimension's descent or Nightmare's evil deeds could all be pinned on their heads.

This is the same logic as the Main Universe Batman borrowing Scarlet Witch's power to destroy Apokolips. When the time comes, nightmare phantoms kill wildly in the universe — first destroy the three great empires' capitals, then slaughter the Ring Zone until not a tile remains, then gnaw on a few civilizations with ecological niches similar to Earth's — who benefits the most?

Naturally, the human civilization that has a grudge against the three great empires and urgently needs to raise its interstellar social status. And after they rise, they can completely pin the crime of cosmic massacre on the other-world invaders, leaving themselves without any stain.

The Main Universe Batman knew Greed would never take a loss. He used Greed's hand to destroy a major threat inside the universe; Greed manufactures an accident to eliminate a rival and pin the black pot on his head. If Greed really succeeded, the two would be even.

However, Bruce kept a trump card: he plucked Barbatos's wool, forcibly restricting the Dream Power and nightmare phantoms. Greed's calculations would likely come to nothing.

But the Main Universe Batman thought again and felt something was off. Greed had been to their side several times; at worst he could read Pride's memories. He couldn't not know Bruce had this move, yet he seemed to have made no precautions. What was going on?

The Main Universe Batman didn't think this was negligence or a mistake. There was only one possibility: what Greed was plotting was probably even bigger than imagined.

"Bruce, absolutely do not be careless," the Main Universe Batman admonished in a deep tone. "You must stay vigilant. This matter is probably not that simple."

After hanging up, the Main Universe Batman couldn't be sure Bruce had listened. He wanted to send reinforcements, but the dark power Bruce controlled was too bizarre — anyone approaching would have their inner dark side triggered, especially Batman. In this situation sending Superman would be best, but unfortunately Superman's losses were too severe and there was no manpower left.

Since Bruce's side couldn't help, he had to carefully consider whether to accept the distress call. Why did Greed want the Command Center to send a distress signal to him?

His manpower here was really too few. If he really had to reinforce, either Manhattan Batman or the Transcendent Body had to move. The Main Universe Batman leaned toward the Transcendent Body. Were they trying to eliminate both the Transcendent Body and Nightmare at once?

Greed had disappeared for too long. They hadn't gotten any useful intel from that side, so with just this bit of clues the Main Universe Batman couldn't guess what Greed was really up to. Then the only method was to send someone to take a look.

However, the Main Universe Batman kept a trick up his sleeve. He knew his usual operating style — this time he'd likely send the Transcendent Body. So he sent Manhattan Batman instead. Although he didn't expect to disrupt Greed's plan, at least if something happened, Manhattan Batman could run faster than the Transcendent Body.

"You must, must, must, must protect your own safety," the Main Universe Batman admonished Manhattan Batman. He repeated it again: "If any accident occurs, run first thing. Don't think about participating, don't watch the excitement, or something will definitely go wrong."

"Relax," Manhattan Batman said. "I'll be careful."

Watching his departing back, the Main Universe Batman was ten thousand times uneasy. No one who hadn't crossed hands with Greed would understand how formidable he was. The Main Universe Batman had long been rejoicing that it was Pride who fell into their world back then, not Greed.

When Manhattan Batman arrived at the Dream Dimension, the battle here was already extremely intense. The superheroes caught up in the Dream Dimension had united to besiege Nightmare. Nightmare wasn't the least bit willing to fall behind, releasing countless monsters from their dreams to continuously attack the superheroes.

These monsters not only possessed powerful strength, but were also the most feared things in their nightmares. For example, what Erik faced was the murderer who once killed his parents; Arkham Knight faced the Joker; Spider-Man faced a mutated Gwen. They not only had to deal with these old acquaintances who now had superpowers, but also had to guard against mental attacks — the slightest slack would be exploited.

Some weaker superheroes had already turned into white light and returned to the Dou Realm. Those who could persist were the strongest among the strong. The main attackers were Erik and Wanda from the Central Universe; the all-covering Scarlet Power enveloped the entire Dream Dimension in a scarlet hue.

Manhattan Batman kept the Main Universe Batman's admonition in mind. After arriving, he didn't show himself immediately but hid to the side observing. He was also afraid that if he went out, this bunch would unite against him. A strong dragon doesn't suppress a local snake; his power level was at most on par with Dream Power, and because he wasn't the real Doctor Manhattan, he might even be slightly inferior. If these people joined forces against him, he'd be in trouble.

However, he could also see that this battle was indeed perilous. Erik and Wanda joining forces, even coordinating with a large group of several Personas, could only barely suppress Nightmare — elimination was out of the question.

But an accident soon appeared. Just as they were fighting fiercely, Nightmare floating in midair suddenly paused, because he felt that Dream Power Doctor Strange's strength in contending for Dream Power had suddenly increased.

"Damn it, he broke free! How is this possible?!" Nightmare shrieked. "How could he escape from there?!!!"

Half an hour ago, Greed and the Agent rode Jack's truck, driving continuously along a road in the Dream Dimension until a city appeared ahead. They stopped at the road sign at the city entrance.

"Alright, the rest is up to us," Greed said.

Greed and the Agent got out of the car together. As they walked into the city, the Agent asked, "You know Stephen Strange better. Where do you think he'd be?"

"Naturally a hospital," Greed said. "That was the best time of his life. If Nightmare used his beautiful dreams to trap him, he'd definitely be in a hospital."

"Which hospital?"

"The one that made him the Hands of God."
