Chapter 4192
Not long after Peter and the others left, Schiller's sanitarium welcomed visitors again. This time, it was the Robins from the universe of Arrogance. Rarely, all three of them came, and the timing was just right; Schiller suspected they had come specifically for mealtime.
Schiller was making breakfast, and the three of them didn't stand on ceremony, sitting down directly at the dining table. Schiller brought over the sandwiches and asked, "Have you found your teammates? Or are you three going together?"
"No, we still need to find two more people. Because we aren't very good at space combat, and the spaceship requires three people to operate; if there's no one else, we'll lack a lookout," Dick said.
"That's exactly why we're here." Tim picked up a sandwich, glanced at the filling inside, took a bite, and said, "We want to team up with Spider-Man. Any suggestions for candidates? Doctor?"
"It depends on what kind of Spider-Man you're looking for."
"Are there different varieties of Spider-Man?" Jason asked, turning his head and asking somewhat vaguely, "Does Black Widow count as Spider-Man? Can we find her?"
Dick choked and started coughing. Schiller placed juice on their table, sat down to eat himself, and said, "Although Black Widow isn't Spider-Man, you could try. However, I don't think Nick would let her go; he's been busy as hell lately."
"No, no, no, let's stick to a traditional Spider-Man," Dick said.
"Is there one who is a bit quieter?" Jason asked, "Sorry, but we aren't very good at flying the ship to begin with. If he keeps rambling, we won't be able to concentrate, and that might lead to a car crash."
"It's true that not all Spider-Men are chatterboxes. The quiet ones are often very strong in combat, but I'm not sure if they'd be willing to team up with you; most of them are lone wolves."
"I'll go talk to them." Jason stuffed the sandwich into his mouth, wiped his mouth, and said, "I believe I can recruit them."
"Alright, first there's Spider-Man Noir; he performed very well in the last multiverse war. However, he isn't from our era; he was born earlier than most Batmen. He's a lone gunman, and although he doesn't talk much, his temper is actually quite good. Then there's Scarlet Spider; he almost never speaks, but his personality is also a bit eccentric. You might not necessarily be able to handle him..."
Schiller gave a few examples, and Jason and the others pulled out their software to start searching. Schiller went to feed Jeff after finishing his meal. When he walked in holding Jeff, Tim was startled.
"Good god! What is that? I thought you were holding a shark!"
"This is a shark," Schiller said, "Jeff the Land Shark, as you can see, a little shark with long legs."
"He's actually quite cute." Dick leaned back and poked his head out, saying, "Of course, if I saw this thing in a swimming pool, I would definitely scream and climb onto the shore."
Schiller roasted a whole chicken for Jeff, and Jeff ate happily by the back door. Then there was Torik; the Flerken race gains energy by devouring things like energy-rich crystal cores, so Schiller gave him a crystal storing Green Lantern energy. Before he could open his mouth to extend his tentacles, he stuffed the crystal directly into his mouth.
At this moment, Pikachu also woke up. With a flip and a superhero landing, he successfully jumped from the second-floor atrium to the kitchen island and began searching for his share of breakfast in the kitchen.
"Where's my sandwich?" he said, "I want a large one, and a cup of chocolate milk."
"It's on the plate over there; go get it yourself if you want to eat. There's no more chocolate milk, there's juice, just make do with that."
Jason stared fixedly at this yellow rat, whispering to Tim. Pikachu had long since noticed his gaze, and while stuffing the sandwich—which was bigger than his head—into his mouth, he said, "Hey, kid, don't think I don't know what you're thinking. I'm not going on a ship with you guys. My career in the universe is just starting; I don't have time to mess around with you."
"Fine, I was just thinking we needed a mascot on our ship. Since you don't want to, forget it."
"I'm not some mascot." Pikachu flicked his tail, and with a 'snap', a bolt of electricity hit the sandwich in Jason's hand. The remaining small half of the sandwich was charred black on the spot. But miraculously, Jason's hand was fine.
"Oh, damn!" Jason was startled and threw the small half of the sandwich away. He looked at Pikachu as if he had seen a ghost. He had seen this yellow rat before, but he had never seen him take action. How did this thing look like it played with electricity?
"So you're not a rat, you're an electric eel?"
Pikachu couldn't be bothered to waste words with him. After finishing his own sandwich, he ran to the backyard to talk to Schiller.
Schiller was trimming the shrubs that Jeff had messed up earlier. Pikachu jumped onto the flower bed to the side and said, "I did some missions with the Guardians of the Galaxy earlier and made some money, then I made a small fortune on the black market and used the startup capital to do some business. Do you want to come and take a look?"
Schiller stopped what he was doing, looked Pikachu up and down, and said, "Are you short on money or short on people?"
Pikachu didn't hide anything either. He scratched his head and said, "You know, doing business anywhere isn't easy. It's inevitable to run into unreasonable people, and the three major empires are eyeing things covetously. I heard the Interstellar Council is moving to the galaxy, so I was thinking, why not move my shop back too."
"You opened a shop?" Schiller said with some surprise, "No wonder you've been in the universe for so long without a peep. Where did you open it? What kind of shop is it?"
"Of course it's in Centaurus. After the Grand Portal business district went under, that's the only place left where you can make some money. It's not a big business either; you'll know once you go."
"You aren't running some black market operation, are you?" Schiller asked in a low voice.
"What are you thinking? Would I do that kind of illegal stuff? This is a legitimate business; apart from being a bit troublesome, it's quite profitable."
"Alright then, I'll go see what kind of racket you're running."
Schiller returned to the house to leash the land shark. Gwenpool had specifically instructed him that Jeff needed to exercise for at least two hours a day, otherwise he might tear the house apart; this trip was a perfect opportunity to walk the dog.
They took a winding path, first transferring from New York to the space station portal, then to the Grand Portal, and then following the portal system of the three major empires, transferring all the way until they arrived at Centaurus.
Although the previous bazaar planet was destroyed, as long as there is demand, the black market will never stop. So, another bazaar planet was quickly established here, only this time the lord was no longer the giant octopus. Other than that, it looked no different from before.
No one dared to stop Schiller, and the security and thugs still didn't dare to block him. He followed Pikachu through the bustling bazaar streets. Don't let the fact that it was a mixed bag of people and hidden dangers fool you; it was actually more vibrant than under the rule of the three major empires. On those planets under the three major empires, wherever robots walked, all creatures were silent, which looked very oppressive.
Although there was a certain order here, everyone was wary of each other. Even guards as strong as giants maintained basic politeness. After all, you never knew where a powerful little thing like a human might pop out from. Even if Pikachu was just a yellow rat, no one dared to underestimate him. From the expressions of some of the security guards nearby, it was clear they had been shocked more than once.
Walking to the center of the street, a building that looked somewhat Tudor-style appeared, just like the kind of tavern that would appear in a Western-style sword and magic world, and this was indeed a tavern.
As soon as Schiller walked in, a wave of heat rushed toward him, followed by noise and clamor. It was packed with people; some were drinking and playing finger-guessing games, some were chatting loudly, and others were already dead drunk on the floor nearby.
"Good god, you didn't say you were running such a big business." Schiller looked at the tavern with some amazement and said, "You built this?"
"Of course not, I took it over from the previous owner," Pikachu said, "After the bazaar planet was destroyed, many owners ran away, but some are still holding on. The owner of this tavern was the latter, but he clearly made the wrong choice; this business is getting harder and harder to run."
"Looks alright to me." Schiller examined the interior of the tavern. The decor must have been adjusted by Pikachu; it looked very much like a medieval tavern, with a large amount of stone and wood materials, candles lit on the tables, torches hanging on the walls, and a large number of beer barrels piled in the back. Even the bartender and waiters were dressed like Celts.
"Of course, my aesthetic is pretty good, right? You should know, when this bar reopened after the renovation, it caused quite a sensation. But you know, those who hang out in the black market are all roughnecks; they can't appreciate the tavern atmosphere at all and are always looking for trouble."
"But that's nothing to you, you can just shock them all into submission, can't you?"
"That's right, ordinary customers getting drunk and causing trouble is nothing; there are security guards here. But what gives me the biggest headache is that bunch..."
Before he could finish his sentence, the wind chime hanging at the door rang continuously. Schiller watched as Pikachu's fur stood on end. He turned his head and saw a group of Raptor-folk with heads full of colorful feathers walking in.
"My god, why are they here again." Schiller heard the bartender behind him complain, "Can't these bastards roll back to their star sector? Why do they always come here to stir up trouble!"
Pikachu's expression was also very ugly. You have to know that he is considered a cute creature, and whatever expression he makes is quite cute, but this time, his expression was obviously very grave.
Schiller pulled him to the edge of the counter and asked, "What's going on? Why would these nobles come to a place like this to drink?"
"What nobles? Just a bunch of down-and-out losers pushed to the fringes," Pikachu said through gritted teeth, "They couldn't catch the train of the Queen's new policies, were kicked out of the noble circle, couldn't make it at the Grand Portal, so they ran here to show off! What a bunch of bastards!"
Just as they were talking, that group of people started shouting and yelling for the waiter to bring them drinks. The drinks on the waiter's tray were for other customers, but they insisted on calling him over and taking them to their own table. Yet, other customers saw they were from the three major empires and didn't dare to say anything, so they could only slink away.
Other customers were also silently walking out. As a result, the leader still stopped one of them and gave him a harsh scolding, and it looked like he was about to make a move.
"Stop!" Pikachu shouted, "What are you doing!"
"Yo, it's you again, you rat!" The leader laughed a few times and said, "Aren't you good at discharging electricity? Come, come, come, perform one for us brothers..."
Pikachu took a deep breath. He lowered his voice and said to Schiller, "These guys have some good equipment on them; most energy attacks don't work on them, and I can't drive them away. Every time they come and make a scene like this, I lose more than half of my customers. It's so annoying!"
Now Schiller understood why Pikachu wanted to move. This kind of customer is indeed very difficult to deal with. Don't let the fact that they might be losers expelled from the core power circle fool you; that's only at the level of the high-ranking officials of the three major empires. As long as they are people of the three major empires, they are a cut above, not to mention they are nobles. The energy shields of their own equipment are military-grade products. How could this bunch of people hanging out in the black market have the ability to deal with them? So they could only watch them show off here while swallowing their anger.
But Schiller was not the type to swallow his anger. He quietly unhooked Jeff's chain, patted his dorsal fin, and pointed at the bird-people in front of the table. Two seconds later, a violent scream erupted inside the tavern.
