Chapter 4271: Heroes Attack! (Part 10)
In the round before the spaceship landed, Greed was in the room, throwing a pile of props on the ground, sighing and saying: "Junk, junk, all junk! Is it possible that finding one key prop really used up all our luck?"
"I told you, it's impossible for the two of us to be that lucky and flip out all the exclusive props," Gray Mist said. "Flipping out one is already about enough; they might not be able to flip out two either."
"No, I don't believe it!" Greed adjusted the prop bar and said, "Let's go, next room."
When they reached the next room, there was another goalkeeper. They killed the monster and then went in to search, but ended up flipping out another pile of junk—either bandages or various pieces of armor with no special effects.
Greed's skills killed monsters very quickly because those monsters didn't really know how to interrupt him; basically, one set of skills could instantly kill them all. His search speed wasn't slow either; he searched while organizing, and his backpack almost never got full. He searched the three rooms nearby at an extremely fast speed, but not a single good item appeared.
"Fine, I admit it, you're right," Greed sighed heavily and said, "It seems impossible for us to flip out anything useful here."
"We'd better leave quickly," Gray Mist said, "maybe we can go search somewhere else."
"No," Greed said again, "the things I can't get, they shouldn't even think about getting. Since we can't search out anything here, they shouldn't even think about getting any key props here."
"What do you want to do?"
"Let's go find the spaceship's main control room."
This spaceship was a flying saucer in the stereotype of many people, so the main control room was more likely to be in the middle of the ring-shaped building. Greed marched toward that side and soon found the main control room.
"Let me see..."
Greed rummaged through the main control room again and finally found an experimental report. The text on it was blurry, but there was an introduction below: "In Room 12 on the lowest level of the spaceship, there seems to be some incredible experimental subject locked up."
"The Thing, right?" Greed said, "I finally made it up here, and you want me to go to the very bottom?"
"What else can you do?" Gray Mist said, "If you don't want others to get the props, you can only let the monster out. This is the best method."
"This monster doesn't necessarily have to be let out, right?" Greed thought for a moment and said, "Although this prop was given, there must be other choices."
"Of course you don't have to let it out; you just don't go looking for it, right?"
"No, no, no, I mean, can we send this monster back to its hometown?"
"What?"
Greed didn't continue to explain. He came to the console, just as he wanted to check it, he was electrocuted by a current, losing health.
"Why are there still traps?" Greed looked at that part and was surprised to find that a part of the console could be attacked.
Greed looked left and right and found that there were also water-ripple-like shadows inside, looking like the semi-transparent spiders from before were stuck inside, but it didn't look like they were stuck due to a program error; it seemed like they had always lived there, and that part of the console was their home.
"I have a bold idea," Greed said, "do you think I have a way to hot-wire the spaceship?"
Gray Mist replied with a question mark. He had only heard of hot-wiring a car; hot-wiring can start it without a key and is essentially a car-theft technique. Can a spaceship do that too?
"It's time to test the programmer's level." Greed smashed the console hard with his hand, triggering a battle, and then began to chant at the spiders. The spiders, of course, weren't very smart and didn't know how to interrupt the spell, so they could only wave their claws in vain.
First, he killed the spider that ran out, and then Greed began to chant at their nest. There were quite a few spiders inside, but perhaps because hanging abnormal status didn't trigger their attack mode, they didn't come out at all.
After hanging all the abnormal statuses, Greed hammered the console with his fist. The basic attack triggered the spiders' nest-guarding mode, and they began to attack outward, but because they had been hung with the miss status, they didn't hit Greed at all.
Greed retreated into the distance. The spiders didn't choose to chase but used long-range attacks, releasing a kind of semi-transparent current, trying to attack Greed.
But before these currents hit Greed, they first hit other parts of the console. Then, with a "crackle" of electric light, the spaceship's operation panel lit up again.
"Looks like this is a pre-arranged puzzle," Greed said.
"But I don't think this is meant to let you start the operation panel," Gray Mist looked at the image on the screen and said, "Why don't you look at the energy storage tank above your head?"
Greed looked up and found that above the spiders, there was something that looked like a battery. It emitted the same light as the spiders, and it looked like this puzzle was indeed hitting the spiders and then replenishing energy somewhere, but Greed's target was wrong.
"Since it can be started, it means there is such a solution." He stepped forward to study the operation panel and found that the text on it was still blurry, with only two options lit up: one was to turn on the lights, and one was to open the door.
"Haha, it's over," Gray Mist said, "they don't give you a chance to operate it at all."
"Impossible." Greed still didn't believe in evil. He rolled up his sleeves and said, "Don't I know them? These programmers are the best at being lazy; they couldn't possibly design a spaceship from scratch. And the environment in this spaceship clearly couldn't have been designed by a human civilization circle; they must have just downloaded a blueprint from the interstellar internet and pinched it out."
"That's true," Gray Mist said, "although this high-brightness environment can be explained as being deliberately created to add unfavorable negative environments for players, it matches the decoration and design here very well. It feels like the same system, not something pieced together on a whim."
"Since they downloaded someone else's blueprint and pinched out all the detailed equipment in the spaceship, it's impossible they didn't pinch the engine. As long as there is an engine, it can definitely be started."
Greed looked at the operation panel and said: "But to prevent players from having little clever ghosts like me, they won't let players operate the spaceship. If the weapon system could really be started, how would other players play?"
"Then what do you plan to do?"
"The same sentence: since they have reproduced someone else's spaceship, the operating system must have been brought along too. And the simplest way to keep players from touching the real operating system is to directly write a new program to overwrite it—that is the two-choice operation interface we see now."
Greed lowered his head and looked at the operation panel. There was something like a human keyboard here, but the letters on it were also blurry. He said: "Any spaceship's operating system has a safe mode. If it's virtually invaded by something, or if the program is temporarily not working, and the spaceship can't be operated, then this race would have perished long ago. So, there must be a way to enter safe mode in an emergency."
"I know how to enter safe mode on a computer—it's nothing more than long-pressing a key during the boot process. Will a spaceship be like this too?"
"It should be about the same," Greed said, "let's look at this keyboard. Having a keyboard means their terminal limbs won't be much different from humans; they might have a few more fingers, but the general structure is about the same. And this keyboard mode proves that they also use an alphabetic language, so the arrangement of letters has rules to follow, just like an English keyboard."
Greed looked down at the keyboard and said: "These 12 keys in the middle should be their most commonly used letters; they could never put the shutdown or power-on key here. These 6 on this side should be consonants; they look like they are within reach of their fingers; these 6 on this side are the same."
"Humans are base-10 because humans have 10 fingers. The numbers developed by most civilizations in interstellar society are related to the body organs they use for counting. Looking at it this way, the aliens who designed this spaceship have 6 fingers on each hand, so their numbers might be base-12, meaning the first 12 numbers don't repeat."
"And this row of keys below is staggered with the letters below, and there happen to be 12 keys from left to right, which could be their numbers. And these 3 rows and 4 columns on this side are also exactly 12 keys, which should be their small keypad."
"Then the last 5 remaining must be function keys. 6 fingers, although one more than humans, aren't that many more. And since the consonant letter keys have to be placed next to the most commonly used letters, it proves that the length of their fingers is also limited, otherwise, they could just put them anywhere."
"In this case, the safe mode start key could be one of these 5, or a combination of two. A combination of three is unlikely because the finger length is limited, and it's too much effort to press. It's time to witness the power of the brute-force method."
"You say you have this brain, how could you press the wrong button when you pressed the elevator back then?"
"I wasn't paying attention!" Greed was a little annoyed and said, "And who would have thought that the numbers of that broken race are arranged backward!"
Greed's hand speed was fast, first single keys, and then began to try combinations. He was almost at the end of the combinations, and there was still no reaction. Gray Mist said: "Your reasoning sounds reasonable, but what if they don't play by the rules, isn't there no move?"
"If the attempt is unsuccessful, I'll go downstairs to release the monster, at most it will delay a little time, but what if it succeeds..."
He had just said this when the last combination key actually worked. Greed immediately showed a big smile and then said: "Someone is going to be unable to sleep."
"I always feel like Lucifer is watching us," Gray Mist said.
"That's also their program design error, they had to be lazy and cut corners, directly overwriting the program on top. If they had been willing to spend a little more effort and completely delete the original operating program, it wouldn't have ended up like this."
The operation panel screen first lit up, then went out again, entering a style completely different from before, and the text displayed on it was no longer blurry but could be read.
Greed didn't recognize this kind of text either. He didn't have time to crack them one by one now, so he scanned them casually, started looking at the options, tried clicking into each option, and then found that there seemed to be an option called "Restart Engine," so he chose it.
Immediately after, the scene from before appeared: the spaceship engine, which shouldn't have worked at all, restarted directly under the drive of the safe mode.
The next thing was very simple because the spaceship's operation panel itself also had a steering wheel and a push lever. Greed tried them one by one and finally found the way to take off the spaceship.
The spaceship began to leave the ground. Greed hurried to the window and jumped down while the spaceship hadn't flown high yet.
"I have a question," Gray Mist said, "even if the spaceship's operating system and hardware were pinched out according to the blueprint they downloaded from the internet, what about the energy? They wouldn't kindly fill a spaceship that wouldn't start in the first place with energy, right?"
"Haven't you noticed yet?" Greed said, "The energy that drives the spaceship for this race is the same as ours."
"What?"
"Light."
Greed continued: "Most civilizations use the same energy when they start in the space age. After eliminating chemical fuels, the most convenient energy to replenish in the universe is light, or more accurately, the heat generated by stars."
"Judging from the decoration style of the spaceship, this race also has a very obvious star worship, or light worship, which is why they designed their spaceship to be shiny, with reflective parts everywhere. Even their race itself might be like those spiders hidden in the light, able to exist directly in the light."
"That makes sense, but it only loads when the dungeon starts. In such a short time, have they already charged up by sunbathing?"
"Sunbathing in the sun above our heads probably won't work, but don't forget, when we were fighting monsters just now, someone directly summoned the sun."
Gray Mist suddenly realized. ===== CHAPTER 4272 =====
