Chapter 4291: Steel Body (Part 3)
A figure broke free from the bustling dance floor and leaned against the wall, pulling at his tie. He walked a few steps, but leaned against the wall and sat down, like a completely drunk person, as if he intended to spend a ridiculous and decadent night like this.
"Hey, are you okay?" A female voice sounded above his head. He said: "Don't sit here anymore, let's go over there."
She helped him up and brought him to the sofa nearby. Taking advantage of the dim light above the seat, she sized up this man.
His jet-black hair had a few strands falling messily, his sunken eye sockets and nose bridge, eyelashes as long and straight as arrows, and his tightly pursed lips with no blood color.
"He wouldn't have a pair of blue eyes," this woman thought, "that would be too vulgar. Either brown or gray, that's right."
"Are you okay? You're too drunk. Tell me your address, and I'll send you back."
The other side shook his head, but still took out a business card from his suit pocket. The woman took a look, raised her eyebrows, and said: "Actually a British person. My God, how did you find this place? Alright, which hotel are you staying at? Should be Luthor Hotel, right?"
The other side seemed to nod. The woman sighed, took out her phone and called a car, helped him walk out of the bar, sat into the car, thought for a while, and then drove the driver away, and she drove herself.
"How did you get here? Here for business?"
"No, here to find something."
"Find something? Find what?"
"The Royal Family lost an antique, seems to have been brought to the United States. They asked me to come over and look for it."
"Really strange, sounds like a movie." The woman's hand paused, and then said, "The Royal Family's antique, should be quite valuable, right?"
"Very expensive... Egypt... snake... emerald..."
"Alright, sounds like that kind of very valuable thing. Did you find it?"
"No clue. But there are many rich people here, always can find it. Tomorrow I'll go to Cat Getan to look around."
The woman's movement paused again, and then said: "Cat Getan? You think that thing is in Cat Getan?" 【42
"Bruce Wei En can afford it. I have to go and see."
The woman's eyes rolled, then she said, "Fine, I hope you find it soon. We're here. I'll have the waiter help you inside."
"Thank you... thank you, miss. Give me a... business card. I will thank you personally..."
"No need for a business card. If we are fated to meet, perhaps we will see each other again." After saying this, she left.
Shiler stood on the steps at the entrance of the hotel lobby. He slowly straightened up, looking not the least bit drunk. Beneath the shadows of a few stray locks of hair, the corners of his mouth curled up slightly.
The woman driving back pulled out her phone while waiting at a red light and started searching, muttering to herself, "Egypt... snake... emerald... The Serpent of Phryne? A museum treasure? These British people really have managed to get their hands on some good things..."
She zoomed in on a picture and said with a click of her tongue, "Such a huge emerald..."
"No news of a theft, looks like they're still keeping a lid on it... The East Coast?"
"Hello? It's me. Where are you bastards drinking again? The money from that job for the Varat Group last time is about spent, right? Of course, I know the work of a corporate spy isn't easy; if the pay wasn't high, would I have taken it? This time is different. I heard something interesting. If it works out, it'll be a huge profit. Want to hear it?"
"Egyptian artifacts... found it, here." Diana reached out to take a book from the bookshelf and stood right there flipping through it. As soon as she saw that long list of contents, she put the book back.
"These greedy British bastards, why didn't they just move the whole of Egypt back? Hundreds of thousands of artifacts, how long would it take me to check through them?" Diana sighed and said, "Such a famous artifact, there should be information online. Better to check online."
She went to the table nearby, opened her computer, and started searching. She quickly found many web pages, including introductions from academic sites, reviews from tourists, and even some strange legends, but most of the focus fell on that emerald—after all, the thing looked valuable.
"No wonder the royal family is so anxious," Diana shook her head and said, "This thing could be called a national treasure in any country. To have it swapped for a fake like this, they really are careless..."
"Whoever would steal and swap this probably isn't doing it for their own collection, so it must be for sale. But how many people can afford it? I know all those rich people on the East Coast... It couldn't be Bruce Wei En, could it?"
"Forget it, I'll go check the Luthor Manor tonight. If it's not in the Luthor Manor vault, then it must be at Wei En Manor."
Diana stood up, took her lasso, and jumped out of the window into the vast night.
"You mean, the British national treasure is lost, and you just happened to get this news from the mouth of a drunkard who came looking for it?" asked a hooded black man sitting in front of a computer.
"I know it sounds absurd, but we don't have any jobs lately anyway. Since we're idle, we might as well try to find a way. Didn't we get that diamond last time by picking up scraps?"
The other person nodded, looked back at the screen, and said, "Then where should we look first? Wei En Group?"
"No, that drunkard said he was going to Cat Getan to take a look."
"Then shouldn't we get there first?"
"That means we don't need to look for it ourselves; just keep an eye on him. If he finds it, we'll just snatch it. Let's look where he hasn't looked first—go check the Luthor Group."
Deep in the night, Lex Luthor was still in the lab. He was wearing a full radiation suit and a mask, picked up a green gemstone, looked at the readings on the instrument, and threw the stone down in anger.
"This damn liar! I knew he was a liar all along!"
Lex let out a roar, stormed out of the lab, took off his protective suit, balled it up and threw it aside, and rubbed his head hard.
He rushed out of the room, taking out his phone to send a message as he walked, but just then, an alarm sounded. He froze for a moment and rushed toward his office.
He opened the door, looked at the abnormal light flashing on the computer, rushed over, and cursed again, "Damn it! Damn it! Someone actually dares to hack the Luthor Group?!"
"Oh no, he found us, retreat quickly." In the dim basement, the woman said with some anxiety, "We still have to cooperate with him later, we can't let this guy hold a grudge. Run!"
"How did he find out?" the hooded man said, "Did this guy upgrade his security system again? He really has nothing better to do!"
"Did you get out?"
"Don't worry, we didn't leave any traces, he can't track us. But for caution's sake, you go probe him tomorrow."
"If he finds out, wouldn't that be walking right into a trap?"
"It's fine, we have leverage on him, he won't dare do anything to you."
Luthor in front of the computer slammed the keyboard and roared, "That damn bastard actually got away!"
He took a deep breath, just about to continue operating the computer to track down this audacious bastard, when his phone sounded another alarm. He opened it—the Luthor Manor vault was under attack. He hurriedly used his phone to open the security defense system, cursing non-stop.
Diana heard the alarm go off, sighed, and uncoiled the Lasso of Truth from the vault door. She knew it wouldn't be that simple. If it were that easy to enter the Luthor Manor vault, the Luthor family would have been cleaned out long ago.
She ran away quickly, and the security measures couldn't stop this demigod at all. Her figure soon disappeared into the night, leaving Lex Luthor alone in his office in a fit of impotent rage.
He was angry for a while, then gradually calmed down.
"This isn't a coincidence..." he whispered, "They hacked the Luthor Group, and now they want to open my vault... could it be..."
After a pause, he opened his phone, opened his email, flipped through the previous messages, found a picture of a business card among a pile of emails, and dialed the number on it.
"Hello? Where are you now? Come over immediately, I have something to ask you... Let's not beat around the bush, what the hell is that damn thing you gave me?! Don't tell me you don't know!"
"Fine... you'd better give me an explanation tomorrow, otherwise, I'll make you pay dearly..."
Lex hung up the phone hard, threw it onto the table nearby, and turned to look out the floor-to-ceiling window, his mind replaying those data points. The readings of that so-called radioactive emerald had no abnormalities at all. Could it really be that it was just because it was worth a fortune that it attracted so many people to covet it?
"No, that's not right... there must be something special about this thing. But what could it be?"
A series of dark thoughts flashed through Lex's mind. If that damn liar didn't explain it clearly, he wouldn't be walking out of the Luthor Group's front door.
Just as he was thinking this, he suddenly saw a flash of light streak across the sky of Metropolis. Immediately after, the entire city was briefly illuminated, and countless people were startled awake from their dreams.
Clark sat up from his bed. He looked at the sky outside his apartment—a huge spaceship appeared above Metropolis.
Clark narrowed his eyes, rolled off the bed, and in the blink of an eye, he had already changed into his Superman uniform. He flew into the sky and flew toward the spaceship without dodging.
As if to vent all his anger and sorrow, Clark took a deep breath and whispered, "Then let me see what you're capable of."
After saying this, he flicked his cape, charged forward, and smashed his fist into the side of the huge spaceship. With a boom, the spaceship exploded into fireworks over Metropolis, and the massive sound waves and vibrations caused countless people's eardrums to bleed.
Everyone was stunned by this shocking turn of events. The wreckage from the spaceship explosion hadn't even had time to fall to the ground before it was all smashed to pieces by Superman, who was moving at an astonishing speed.
Afterward, he descended slowly and landed in front of the person hiding on the only remaining large piece of the spaceship's wreckage.
Some unknown anger drove him, and his eyes were as cold as a polar storm.
"You shouldn't have come here. Are you going to leave on your own, or should I throw you out?"
