Chapter 460: The Spy
Inside the Batjet, the engine roared loudly, so Hal had to shout at the top of his lungs: "Even if you can fly, why did you bring them along?!"
Hal turned his head, looking through the seat back toward the rear, where two child seats had been installed behind the cockpit, each securely fastened with Dick and Elsa.
"It's too dangerous for children to be on a fighter jet!" Hal shouted.
"Do you think leaving them in Gotham is any safer?"
Alfred yanked the control stick hard, and the jet accelerated again, yet Dick and Elsa in the rear seats showed no sign of discomfort.
With Green Lantern energy, Dick and Elsa, who was never ordinary to begin with, were unfazed by such turbulence; they even leaned forward in their seats, curiously peering at the controls ahead.
Not just them—soon Hal noticed the unusual control panel, unlike any fighter jet's he'd ever seen, yet Alfred manipulated the Batjet with effortless, expert precision.
Though the panel was different, Hal could still tell Alfred had flown before—many times.
As he'd said earlier, flying and driving were entirely different things; professional pilots underwent rigorous training. Though some prodigies found flying as easy as driving, a novice and a veteran were instantly distinguishable.
The distance from Gotham to Metropolis was short—they were the two closest major cities—so soon, through the Batjet's cockpit, faint outlines of urban buildings appeared on the horizon.
"No control tower! How are we supposed to land?!" Hal shouted.
Alfred didn't answer; he only turned his head and looked down, his gaze settling on the parachute pack beneath the seat. Hal followed his line of sight, and said:
