Chapter 4791: Royal Casino (Five)
Greedy thought for a moment, then first placed 20 chips on Superman. Although he couldn't hit Batman and might lose money, if he did hit, Superman would almost certainly be stabbed. Even with Superman's superpowers, he could hardly outwit Arkham Batman; this game still relied more on wit than strength.
Arkham Batman went up to the fifth floor. This area did not belong to the casino, but to the staff offices. Superman should have found that safe here, though he probably didn't go downstairs. Arkham Batman understood Clark; he should want to look for more here.
Following the reddish-brown carpet all the way in, Arkham Batman heard a sound at the farthest room, as if someone was rummaging through boxes and cabinets. He stopped his steps, but did not rush to open the door. Last time that heat ray almost shoved him against the wall, and he couldn't pry himself off; if this time he got hit with icy breath, he'd also experience the feeling of being a Metropolis villain.
Arkham Batman turned his head to look inside. Superman had his back to the door, flipping through a filing cabinet. Arkham Batman waited a moment, until Superman had just found something and was examining it, then he strode in and punched Superman in the side of the neck.
Superman staggered, nearly falling to the ground, and turned around to fire a heat ray. But this time Arkham Batman was prepared; he sidestepped to dodge, then threw another punch. Superman only then got up and ran outward.
Arkham Batman had to admit he was still a bit secretly pleased. No Batman would be foolish enough to go head-to-head with Superman; even if they fought, it would basically be all wit. Who would trade punches with Superman?
But in this virtual game, one can actually go head-to-head with Superman, even chase and beat him. Anyone would feel a bit secretly pleased about that.
Arkham Batman chased Superman into the corridor. Superman looked left and right, seeming to hesitate which way to run. But just then, he took another punch from Batman. As expected, red lights began flashing in his vision.
Arkham Batman's punch base value was not as high as Hunter's, but his knife-wipe time was very short, allowing consecutive punches, and even a certain chance to stun the opponent—he was the type who sticks to the enemy and beats them.
Superman ran all the way to the other end of the corridor, and Arkham Batman wasn't in a hurry either, following behind at a leisurely pace until he reached the courtyard. Superman climbed over the railing and jumped down.
Arkham Batman naturally also climbed over the railing, preparing to go down. But after he went out, he was falling downward, and he watched helplessly as Superman nearby suddenly made an emergency stop in midair, then slowly flew upward.
After landing, Arkham Batman let out a long sigh. He turned his head and saw Superman, who had flown back to the fifth floor, leaning against the railing and smiling at him, a mouthful of white teeth making his smile even brighter.
This casino has a courtyard spanning the fifth floor; ordinary people can only go up and then jump straight down. But Superman can fly—he just needs to run up and jump down, then fly back up when others jump after him. Relying solely on this courtyard, he is already in an invincible position.
Arkham Batman really wanted to ask Doctor Manhattan what he was thinking. In such a ghost-catching game, you let people fly freely? This is just cheating!
Now it seems, these five people he can't catch a single one: Superman can fly, Matt has full-map vision, agents have ejection takeoff, Lucifer has magic control, and the only one who seems to have no skills, Greedy, is still protected by them to the point of being airtight.
Arkham Batman walked back upstairs while thinking. He felt that the main reason he lost this round was actually because the gamblers' side was too united.
Conversely, the reason he lost the previous round, aside from Hunter being strong, was also because his side was completely disunited. No plan, everyone doing their own thing, not protecting important targets but instead prematurely sealing traps for teammates. Looking at this round, although there was also no communication, Matt and the agent were desperately protecting Greedy, Lucifer, though contributing nothing, didn't hold them back, and Superman was also doing things. Not saying they were perfectly coordinated, but they were quite united.
This is similar to competitive games encountering random teams versus five-man squads. The coordination of random players could never match a five-man squad, let alone this five-man squad being all above-average experts. Who would gain points if they didn't?
As he was rushing upstairs, another safe was opened. Arkham Batman paused his steps; now two safes had been opened, meaning his other set had been unlocked.
Arkham Batman just switched over and looked; he hadn't even had time to check the main skill when he saw the set description column read: "Set default removes all movement and action restrictions—become the true Batman!"
Arkham Batman slowly raised his hand, then stretched his legs, and jumped in place, followed immediately by a wall-kick sprint and a backflip. Good, good, good—now who can stop me?!
Earlier he had already discovered that, as the ghost side, they couldn't move freely. For example, if he wanted to move forward, he could only walk slowly forward. Wanting to run while making big jumps, or pull off a cool superhero-style landing, was impossible.
He couldn't even squat, kick, dodge, or punch—they were all according to a set action module; changing moves mid-way was unlikely, let alone doing things like lying down.
But after equipping the Batman suit, all these restrictions were lifted, and there was completely no stamina limit—he could now even move forward while doing backflips.
And this suit gave him more than one surprise; first, the skill was the full Batman gear. Although Arkham Batman still looks like Batman now, this is his skin, and these gears have no actual effect. For example, the belt can't be opened, the batarangs can't be taken out, let alone the marking and night vision functions.
But now he has retrieved his full set of Batman gear. Opening the mask's night vision, the dark, empty hall is fully visible. The batarangs can be used, and more importantly, the grappling hook in his bracers has returned, so he no longer needs to run stairs—he can go directly up and down from the courtyard.
He originally thought the second skill would be the Batmobile. Although driving a car in the casino is a bit absurd, the casino is huge, so it's not impossible. But unexpectedly, the second skill is the minimap.
Exactly, it's the map function from the Arkham Batman game—it not only has a mixed virtual-real 3D map, but also uses green icons to mark key points. For example, the positions of all gambling facilities, safes, and exits—it's simply all laid out.
However, on the map, Arkham Batman discovered, besides these key points he already knew, there were also several lightning-shaped markers. He guessed they might be power devices—could electricity be restored?
But actually, except for the first floor, other areas have light, especially the fourth and fifth floors, which have no power outage at all. Arkham Batman quickly realized this power device should not be for repair, but for destruction. He could go cut off all power sources, so the entire casino would go dark, while he has night vision.
Arkham Batman immediately headed upstairs. But at this moment, he encountered Superman rushing out in a panic. Having just been toyed with by Superman, he was holding back anger, and this time he didn't hold back—he pulled out two batarangs.
The batarangs have no damage; otherwise, they'd be sniper weapons. But they can provide a marker. The marker allows wall-penetrating vision of that person's position, keeping them always within Arkham Batman's field of view, making pursuit easier.
Superman looked a bit confused, as if he didn't know what had hit him. But he intended to repeat his old trick, wanting to fly to a higher floor to escape Batman's pursuit.
He used the skill again to fly up, all the way to the fifth floor. Who would have thought a black hook latch was caught on the fifth-floor railing? With a whoosh, Arkham Batman came up, immediately followed by a leaping jump and a downward whip kick, with a thud, Superman was knocked flying and fell heavily to the ground.
Another heat ray came over; Arkham Batman rolled, then kicked off the wall, followed by a landing heavy punch. Superman didn't even react before taking another hit.
However, taking advantage of the opening in his punch, Superman got up from the ground, ran forward quickly, and Arkham Batman followed behind him, steps not hurried but not slow, yet his movements were not slow.
The terrain on the fifth floor is too narrow; Superman ran in a circle and returned to the courtyard, then jumped down. This time he actually landed, but Arkham Batman also landed with him. Superman could only stagger around the table here.
This tactic worked for previous Batmen, but not for the current one. Superman had just gone around a gambling table, when Arkham Batman directly did a burst charge plus a table slide, then swept his cape, followed by a spinning kick. Superman was knocked down, and two large characters "Near Death" appeared in his vision.
Greedy on this side was also startled by the sound of coins dropping into the bag. Superman got taken down?! How could it be this fast?!?
He immediately realized Arkham Batman might have unlocked a new skill or found a killing move. Otherwise, how could Superman with heat rays and flight be taken down so quickly by him?
Greedy felt a bit anxious inside, because the money he had earned so far was still not enough. He wanted to stay here and earn more, but the problem was, if Batman came over now and took him down, and he wanted to revive with a revive coin, that would require clearing a large sum of money. Aside from those used to restore HP, at least several hundred chips would be wasted.
Greedy sighed, and in the end still decided to withdraw. He needed to take this money to the store, spend it all first, then talk. His current burden was still a bit too heavy.
All gamblers can see the store's location; it's basically evenly distributed. Though called a store, it's actually just something like a slot machine. Greedy found the nearest one, started inserting coins and picking items.
The items in here are all kinds—speeding up read-bar, helping solve puzzles, controlling ghosts, setting traps……
Greedy quickly picked the items he wanted—basically all survival items, spending money until it was just enough to revive himself to half HP, then he walked upstairs. This time he chose to invest in Matt, because he knew Matt would definitely choose to save Superman, while Arkham Batman wouldn't let him save him, so the two would definitely stalemate. Although he didn't want Matt to fall, it was also like buying him insurance.
