Chapter 4950
Facts prove that mutants as a group are no less than Gotham's students. When they both drown in the sea of study, one sinks too deep, the other spreads too wide. Gotham's youth like to lie low for a while, then burst out with a big feat; mutants keep doing small feats nonstop.
With Brainiac, Gotham's situation improved a lot. Mutants also grew a little after experiencing the construction of the Andromeda Galaxy. But if it were really that easy to profit, arrogance and Charles wouldn't have avoided teaching so much.
Charles wore a worried expression: "How did Lorna end up in the East District? She was supposed to be fighting monsters in the South District, and I just didn't keep an eye on her..."
"Don't forget, he's been hanging out with the Arkham Knight." Arrogance said, "Mutants and Robin's bad luck combined are almost catching up to Batman."
Charles sighed deeply: "The situation over there is somewhat complicated; brainwave avatars might not be able to handle it. I'm going to get the brainwave amplifier, then my main body will go over."
"Your main body came?" Arrogance asked. He knew Charles had always come here as a brainwave avatar, but thinking about it, his brainwaves can't transmit across universes, so his main body must have arrived in this DC side, though he might not have entered the game.
Charles nodded and said: "I asked Brainiac; he allows using virtual accounts and can switch anytime."
Arrogance understood: Charles's situation now is like playing a game, but as a guest account, which can register a fixed account and complete real-name verification anytime. But there's still a problem; Arrogance spoke up: "Can the brainwave amplifier be brought in?"
After the game starts, outside equipment is no longer allowed to be brought in; otherwise, Arrogance could simply go get his real-world fear toxin inventory instead of having to dig in the game.
Charles lightly tapped his forehead with his finger: "Before coming here, I had already made full preparations. Erik had Dr. Pym use Pym particles to shrink the brainwave amplification device to the smallest size, implanting a micro-crystal in my frontal lobe, so I can carry it around."
Arrogance didn't know what to say; logically, this DC side should be more dangerous, but Marvel people always say some chilling things in a completely ordinary tone. Arrogance momentarily didn't know whether to ask how Charles convinced Erik, or how Erik convinced Pym; anyway, this series of operations sounds like the prelude to a big event, with subsequent plot already visualized.
Charles quickly finished switching accounts. His main body and brainwave avatar still look somewhat different; the brainwave avatar might be because it doesn't want to use too much bandwidth, so it didn't render too many details, while the main body looks much more real.
Charles wore a camel-colored casual suit, black-rimmed glasses, the suit leaning toward an academic style, and with the glasses, he looked like a harmless bookworm.
Brainiac also clicked his tongue in wonder, being able to let an electronic life see hallucinations; it's hard to say this is purely psychic ability. Brainiac has actually always been curious about Magneto, but unfortunately, Magneto rarely comes here, so Brainiac has few chances to interact with him.
However, Arrogance thought, Charles switching to a main account just to fish for students also inevitably made him feel a pang of sorrow. He actually only fished Bruce for a few years, but Charles has been continuously fishing mutants for decades, fishing one batch after another; Charles going mad is also entirely understandable.
"The agents have detoured to pick us up." Charles pushed open the door and walked out. As soon as he stepped out, Reaper just got off the vehicle, and upon seeing Charles, he froze at first glance.
He felt Charles was somehow different, but couldn't say exactly what. If he had to say, after the resolution increased, those blue eyes had more impact.
"You..." Reaper hesitated for a moment.
Charles smiled at him and said: "My students have run into some trouble; I must go check on them, sorry to bother you."
Reaper doesn't often encounter such polite people. Besides Shiler, and besides Batman, most people in the Justice League choose to turn a blind eye to him, this mercenary who makes a living from killing; most just can't stand up to Batman, so they allow him to loiter in the Justice League base.
In fact, Reaper has also intentionally shaped his appearance into a violence machine; facing such a person, very few can remain calm and composed; most are either wary or fearful. Reaper has already gotten used to it, but he can tell Charles is very sincere, which makes him all the more chilling.
Think about it: facing a super-tight-clothed muscular hulk weighing over 200 pounds, full of muscles and weapons, how many people could chat with him like old friends, so casually saying everyday greetings? Unless, this person sincerely believes that even Reaper couldn't inflict the slightest harm on him.
Reaper instead grew somewhat wary. Charles was indeed somewhat strange before, but the oppressive feeling wasn't this strong. Now he doesn't know what happened, but Reaper feels a bit reluctant to get close.
The agent standing in the passenger seat also stared at Charles. Reaper is completely not versed in psychic systems, so he couldn't feel it. But the agent, due to his connection with Gao Ta, has more sensitive mentality and can feel that Charles's surroundings have a very strong brainwave force field, like a fusion reactor, also deserving the name psychic sun.
The agent even suspects that Brainiac's game system weakened this perception; in reality, it would probably be even more fierce and bright. This is clearly not an ordinary situation for Professor X; he must have received some enhancement.
It seems Professor X came prepared this time, afraid it's not just to play a game. But what he wants to do remains unclear. However, seeing now he has a faint worry between his brows, he's probably going to fish for students.
Several people got into the car, heading toward the East District. Reaper drove while asking: "Why was Batman trapped? Why was Polaris trapped too?"
This is indeed a good question, because Batman doesn't look like someone who would rashly charge toward a pollution source unprepared, and Polaris, being strong and able to switch to a magnetic field at any time, shouldn't logically be trapped.
Yet in the game, the two people least likely to suffer heavy damage are simultaneously trapped in the East District. What exactly is down there?
Charles shook his head; he obviously doesn't know either. That place has something interfering with brainwaves; he suspects Brainiac might have gotten something real from the outer gods, not just simulated by the game. To avoid trouble, Charles didn't dare to make contact.
"I never thought we'd have to save Batman." Reaper sighed again, "Hope he appreciates our help and throws me a few jobs later."
"Don't forget what our mission is." The agent reminded him, "The East District is probably the toughest of these few districts. We should figure out whether Brainiac is really connected to the outer gods, and how deep that connection goes."
Reaper glanced at Charles. In Charles's presence, he really couldn't say it, but they don't actually want to save Batman and Polaris; they want to go investigate on the surface of the East District, to fulfill Batman's mission.
However, Charles is very understanding; he said: "We also can't rashly enter the underground for rescue; it would be better if we had more clues."
"Let's go investigate." Reaper spoke up.
"I'll provide you with mental protection." Charles smiled again and said, "You just need to physically give those monsters a bit of color to see."
Reaper had no doubt that Charles says what he does; although he doesn't know what happened, Charles's this shapeshifting ability is obviously much stronger than before. Whether Charles or the outer gods will win remains unknown, or rather, saying Professor X isn't some form of outer god?
Arriving in the East District, under Charles's guidance, Reaper dropped him off at the temporary base set up by others. In the original living hell area, they found a small hut to settle in, discussing how to rescue Batman.
Reaper and the agent didn't waste time, started searching for clues near the living hell, and quickly received an investigation task. Reaper glanced at it, somewhat impatiently saying: "Again this kind of investigation task, you go do it yourself, I'll go wander around."
The agent also found him annoying. Reaper really dislikes investigation tasks, especially those that give no hints, only a rough location, requiring him to find clues himself. Such tasks have low combat trigger probability, no monsters to fight, but require constant back-and-forth patrolling.
This is also the main reason Reaper teamed up with the agent, not because of that broken gun, but because the agent is very skilled at detection and investigation. So even when the two fight and constantly hinder each other, Reaper is still happy to have the agent as a teammate; all literary scenes can be handed to the agent, he only needs to kill kill kill.
The agent isn't fond of investigation either; he's just a diligent agent who does whatever work requires. Occasionally he slacks off, but most of the time he can still complete work on time. After all, this game has no tea room.
The agent walked into that low building. Actually, he hasn't seen too many scenes of the living hell; in Arrogance's memory, it's just a brief glance; the deeper impression is of Gotham's building renovation project after which buildings sprang up like spring bamboo shoots. This dilapidated appearance is actually uncommon.
The agent walked in and scanned around, then knew this place should be just an ordinary residence, with nothing inside worthy of being called furniture. He pressed the walkie-talkie: "Brainiac, scan."
"Isn't there a possibility you don't need to use the walkie-talkie?" Brainiac's voice appeared in the agent's ear, "This is the game system I wrote; I can speak in your mind anytime."
"Could you have some professionalism?" The agent frowned, "A voice suddenly appearing in the mind will disrupt thought; humans have ears not just for display."
"Alright." Brainiac's voice came from the walkie-talkie, "But I don't know what you want me to scan."
"Aren't you a super AI? Do you only tell cold jokes?"
"I can indeed offer you some help as Brainiac, but you must first make specific requests, such as wanting me to intelligently allocate production lines, or wanting me to help you punctuate..."
Brainiac modified some plots for Arrogance, inserting himself into the game, thus notifying all players that he can assist them as an intelligent butler. But outsiders still aren't used to it, nor have they remembered him.
"Help me scan, is there any abnormal item here?" The agent said, "This shouldn't be too hard, right?"
"There's a patch of feathers by the window." Brainiac said, "But I'll honestly tell you, I didn't scan it out; I just did some limited spoilers..."
"I'm not Arrogance, I don't care about this." The agent walked forward directly, picked up the feather. He looked at it, then narrowed his eyes, because he discovered this might be an owl's feather.
