Chapter 4969
Shiler immediately realized that as long as both sides were completely righteous superheroes, this war couldn't have been fought so brutally. One Reed, one White Can. With those two stirring the pot, it would've been strange if they didn't come to blows.
"That's right." Peter nodded and said, "Before, Tony created a symbiote armor, but that armor had a fatal weakness. Bruce seized on that weakness and destroyed the armor with fire. That thoroughly pissed Tony off."
Shiler thought to himself, it probably wasn't just pissing him off; he probably couldn't keep up the act anymore. Although he might not have been planning to keep up the act either, otherwise he wouldn't have gone back to his old trade. It's just that there were too many merged-universe superheroes, so he couldn't pull off the Extremis virus; otherwise he would've made a move long ago.
Many people's stereotypical impression is that Iron Man has a bad temper, while Captain America is the gentle, tolerant type, but it's actually the exact opposite. Iron Man's temper is actually fine; although he's picky and sometimes doesn't mince words, at most he only counts as tsundere. It's Captain America who's more hardline.
But there are indeed Iron Men in the multiverse who fit the stereotype — for example, White Can. In Axis, good and evil were inverted, and temperaments were inverted too. White Can's temper is very large.
Probably, he thought he got along fine with Spider-Man, but at the critical juncture, Spider-Man didn't stand with the Avengers. In a huff he struck out, but before he could even land a hit, he lost face all the way to his grandmother's house, so naturally he absolutely had to win back this round.
"Actually this doesn't count as much either." Peter spoke again, "But Bruce got another Iron Man from somewhere, and to deal with the previous Iron Man, the later Iron Man stood on the Justice League's side……"
Peter's explanation sounded a bit messy, but Shiler thought it over carefully and remembered. This main universe should actually have three Iron Men: the past White Can, the future White Can, and the Justice Iron Man's consciousness backup.
The two White Cans might have already merged into one, or one might have already left, but one still remained. And the Iron Man consciousness backup was still there; the two of them faced off against each other.
Shiler couldn't help shaking his head. They say Marvel and DC superheroes fighting, but in the end it's still Marvel fighting Marvel; DC are just innocent bystanders dragged into it. Sure enough, the underlying logic of superheroes is a massive airport battle.
"Anyway, later the conflict escalated more and more. From initial verbal attacks to all-out brawling, but at that time everyone was still holding back — at most it was sparring, after all no one truly wanted to destroy the Earth. But then another thing happened……"
"What?"
"To avoid going into space to fight the Chitauri army, and to give the other side a taste of their own medicine, Iron Man got a possible universe from somewhere — a pocket universe — and released the three great empires inside it."
Shiler was truly a bit confused now. He said, "Three great empires? Aren't the three great empires originally in the universe?"
"Those are the ones in our universe." Peter obviously knew this was confusing too; he explained carefully, "At the reboot, our universe — the original main universe — had already been destroyed. We only had Earth come over."
"After Earth came over, it fused with this universe's Earth, becoming New Earth. Gotham and New York fused into Forward York City. At this time, the universe only had local forces like Darkseid and the Lantern Corps."
"This universe's space was empty, with no interstellar civilizations. This led to there being no defense line when the Chitauri army attacked. So supporters of the Justice League grew more and more; they believed Earth had an obligation to intercept the Chitauri army."
"And Iron Man's thinking was: you think there's no one in the universe to fight? Then I'll just bring some people over. So he got a pocket universe from somewhere and released the three great empires."
Peter said Iron Man got a pocket universe from somewhere, but Shiler knew very well it should be the possible universe where White Can resided.
As everyone knows, Marvel's setting is that a single thought is a universe, a single possibility is also a universe. The Axis timeline is a possible universe. Before, he had also pulled White Can out of that possible universe and threw him into the main universe. White Can very likely brought his old home over.
"No wonder I haven't heard any news of Thanos." Shiler's hand paused. Before, he'd heard the three great empires were fighting Darkseid, but logically Darkseid's opponent should be Thanos, or rather Thanos's prototype is Darkseid — they're the same kind of people; meeting means needle point against wheat awn.
Shiler had thought Thanos had walked into the plot of being frozen in the timeline by his own son, and it happened to be right before and after Infinity, so he hadn't shown up to fight Darkseid. He didn't expect Thanos simply hadn't come at all.
"Good news is there's no Thanos anymore." Peter said, "Bad news is Darkseid is even harder to deal with. Two of the three great empires joining forces can only barely hold on."
"You did something, right?"
Peter let out a long sigh: "Can only say it's a good thing I'm not Spider-Man anymore. They're busy fighting; no one pays attention to me at all."
"Darkseid was lured by you?"
"How could that be." Peter widened his eyes and said, "I'm not crazy. The civil war was already impossible to pull apart; if I lured Darkseid on top of that, wouldn't it be thoroughly finished?"
Shiler paused, then said, "Then it was Asgard?"
"You know the God of Stories, Loki, right?" Peter said, "I made a deal with him. He gave me a World Tree sapling. That's the key that lured Darkseid."
Shiler narrowed his eyes slightly. Peter continued, "During the multiverse war, the main universe's Darkseid lost his own Apokolips. This made him almost unable to contend with Batman in the main universe. And the main universe's status is extremely important; he absolutely would not give it up."
"Darkseid is very smart. From the moment Apokolips was destroyed, he understood Apokolips was no longer safe enough. He needed a better way — for example, the Nine Realms."
"The World Tree's nature is very special. It takes root in the universe's fundamental structure and cannot be easily erased. If Scarlet Witch wanted to erase the World Tree, she would at least need Universe Administrator permissions. To Darkseid, this is a supreme treasure."
"I planted the World Tree. If Darkseid wants to seize it before it stabilizes, he must come grab it. Otherwise, once the World Tree takes root, even if he has multiverse-level power, without Administrator permissions he cannot uproot it. This is the root cause of why he rushed over."
"Darkseid came, and the situation became more critical. Thor had no choice but to fuse his body with the growing World Tree, forcibly elevating his own tier, only then driving Darkseid away. Now, Thor is the World Tree, the World Tree is Thor. He alone is the entire Nine Realms."
"Sounds very powerful."
"Perhaps the strongest in the multiverse." Peter said, "I haven't seen many Thors, but at least among the Thors I've seen, no one can compare to World Tree Thor's mighty power."
"Be a little humble, Peter." A voice suddenly rang out. Shiler looked back; Thor was standing in the suite's living room. His body emitted a faint glow; he looked like a projection.
"Long time no see, Professor." Thor had once met Shiler in the Dou Jie. "You've come at a very opportune time. If you'd come a little earlier, you'd have seen us black and blue."
"I promise I won't laugh at you." Shiler smiled and said, "How do you feel?"
"Very good." Thor also laughed. "If it weren't for me, they wouldn't have been able to welcome multiverse guests this quickly."
"What can you do?"
"You should know the relationship between the Apokolips Domain and Darkseid, right?" Thor held up one finger as an example. "Darkseid is an omnipotent god within the Apokolips Domain. As long as no one can shake the Apokolips Domain, no one can shake him. Now my relationship with the Nine Realms is the same. I am the only god within the Nine Realms."
"You're omnipotent too?"
"Yes." Thor said, "Those superheroes aren't unwilling to fight; it's that if they keep fighting, I'll be the one fighting them."
No wonder. Shiler nodded. He was just saying, these people making up so quickly was a bit too suspicious.
Conflicts between superheroes aren't that easy to mend. Most organizations just split in two on the spot; I've never heard of a superhero organization that never split. Even if they nominally still exist, there will definitely be a portion of people who leave to build a new organization.
But this universe's superheroes, after fighting, shook hands and made peace at light speed. Not only that, they all became good little babies, let go of past grudges, and joined hands to build the city. This isn't a fairy tale; how could it be that beautiful?
Not to mention anything else — does White Can look like someone who admits fault and corrects himself? If not for some other factor interfering, even if the war ended, he'd absolutely still be a dead duck with a hard mouth. At worst he just wouldn't stay in Forward York City; going to the West Coast would be the same, right?
Turns out it was because Thor became a true god, became the Nine Realms' lord in name and in fact. These Earth superheroes couldn't beat him even if lumped together. You can move from the East Coast to the West Coast, but you can't move off Earth, right? Still want to live together on Earth? Then you can only accept the lord's mediation; otherwise, if expelled, you'd have to go star trekking.
"An ingenious method." Shiler looked at Peter and said, "How did you think of this idea?"
"Not entirely my idea." Peter turned his head to look at Thor.
"Loki missed home." Thor sighed, sitting on the nearby sofa. "No matter what, Asgard is our homeland. But we are farther from our homeland than anyone else. I don't mind too much, but Loki has no sense of belonging to Earth. He ultimately had to go back."
Shiler understood. Originally Thor wanted to raise Asgard from flat ground, to find his home again. He happened to run into the superhero civil war, so he and Peter set up a trap for Darkseid together.
On one hand, they let Darkseid discover the World Tree sapling was growing, forcing him to rush over impatiently. Once he came, the superheroes naturally didn't dare fight anymore. After all, at that time they didn't know about the World Tree yet; they thought a great calamity had arrived, so they hurriedly united, wanting to struggle a bit.
And after they united, when Darkseid really tried to push in, Thor backhanded a fusion, directly becoming the Nine Realms' god. No one can defeat him in his domain. Darkseid was driven away by him.
And once Darkseid left, the superheroes were about to fall apart. But at this time, Thor, who had become the Nine Realms' master in name and in fact, came with his hammer to have a talk with them.
Actually at this time, if there had been a proper Batman, Thor might still have had some reservations. But the problem is, this universe truly doesn't have one. Bruce Wayne went to be Spider-Man. At that time Thomas hadn't come yet. The Avengers side was also each fighting for themselves. The only one with some say, Doctor Strange, had already entered the monastic life and didn't manage affairs much. The superheroes could only sit down and talk.
In the subsequent construction, Thor obviously contributed a lot too. After all, such a huge city, large-scale demolition and reconstruction is quite troublesome. But with a true god helping on the side, it's much better. No wonder the whole city could be built with such a unified style, and no construction sites or garbage could be seen. For Forward York City to move forward, Thor really paid too much.
