Chapter 4980

~11 min read 2,059 words

Sea fishing, for most people, is a novel experience. Generally speaking, it is divided into two types: one is inshore fishing, the other is offshore fishing. The former is actually not much different from fishing on land; most people who fish do so in small boats, or even on electric paddle boards, not venturing too far from shore, and lacking any professional equipment for locating fish schools, merely making up for the insufficient length of the fishing rod to catch some marine fish that would otherwise be unreachable from the shore.

The latter, however, is comparatively more complex, requiring a larger boat, more professional equipment, and generally taking place at night, i. e., what is called offshore night fishing. This activity is popular among the wealthy, who sunbathe on yachts during the day and chase fish schools at night.

Yachts are usually equipped with fish-finding radar, and some professional enthusiasts also hire local captains to locate fish schools. Offshore fishing, compared to fishing, is actually more like hunting, because the process of battling the fish is very long, and deep-sea fish are none of them easy to provoke.

Speaking of economic value, the bluefin tuna is naturally the highest, and it is also a rather ferocious fish species, swimming very fast in the sea, so anglers often need to secure themselves in fishing chairs, and even need to use the boat to tow, in order to successfully exhaust the stamina of such a large fish.

But if one wants a photo with a legendary leviathan, then naturally nothing but the blue marlin will do. Large blue marlins cannot even be held in the arms; instead, one must lie on the ground to take a photo with it. And its image is precisely the traditional marlin image, with its sharp, elongated snout not just for show—there have been many news reports of anglers being pierced through by the snout.

This is also precisely why many people enjoy offshore fishing: compared to the safe atmosphere on land, battling these leviathans in the ocean is obviously more stimulating and challenging. And fishing grounds around the world also hold various fishing competitions, among which there are not a few who achieve fame in a single stroke.

The inshore waters of the East Coast are basically dominated by bass, herring, salmon, and similar fish; marlin, as a deep-sea fish species, are basically unseen there. And of course, the people of the Renaissance Alliance would not dare to take these multiversal visitors too far out, so they are still considered inshore fishing.

And seemingly to satisfy the needs of different styles, the Renaissance Alliance has prepared many fishing rods for them, many of which are offshore fishing rods, such as the one Shiler is holding. To be frank, it has basically departed from the category of fishing rods; from a distance, it looks like holding up a streetlamp.

And like Shiler, the Gothamites, such as whichever universe's Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl, all chose this style of fishing rod, just like Shiler; from a distance, it looks as if they have arrived in the Amazon, each person holding a long spear. Wonder Woman also somehow got a shield from an unknown Captain America, holding it in front of her while casting the line.

The Marvel people all sat down in the fishing chairs, and some even seriously used straps to secure themselves. Peter saw them doing this, so he also reached out to pull the strap, but Shiler hurriedly stopped him.

"Wait a minute." Shiler said, "What are you trying to do? Tie yourself up here?"

"Uh, is that not allowed?" Peter asked, "Actually, I haven't been on a yacht much, and I don't really know what to do, but I think tying myself up makes some sense, otherwise if I slip and fall overboard, what then? I'm not Spider-Man now, and I'm not wearing a uniform, so my feet can't stick to the ground..."

"I think you'd better not tie yourself down anywhere." Shiler said while baiting the hook, "Otherwise, you won't be able to run when the time comes."

Peter listened, utterly confused: "Why run? Run where?"

Shiler really wanted to explain, but he harbored a certain侥幸心理. After all, this is Earth Zero, the intensity isn't that high, and besides, ocean pollution should have already been resolved, and there's no Batman in this crew reducing luck, so it's not necessarily that unlucky for something to go wrong.

Shiler didn't want to unnecessarily give Peter a bad impression of Gotham, so he didn't say anything. Peter, although a bit doubtful, also didn't press further, and soon put it out of his mind.

More than ten minutes after casting the line, no one had caught a fish. Because Shiler was in a relatively peripheral spot, he just heard Carter walkie-talkie in hand, walking to the rear of the cabin and saying: "What's going on? Namor? Didn't you say there were fish schools here? Are you in the sea now?"

"Just wait a moment…… I'm currently…… a bit…… busy……"

"Beep beep beep——"

"What the hell!" Carter cursed, hearing the violent rolling of waves on Namor's end, "Is this guy fighting with Aquaman Arthur again? Every time he loses, he still wants to fight!"

Carter let out a long sigh; she still wanted Namor to find a few people to hang bait, but if not a single fish is caught, then this trip would be considered a complete failure. They're not really here on vacation, are they just entertaining these guests? Coming back empty-handed after blowing sea wind all day would surely earn plenty of negative reviews.

Just as Carter was considering whether to contact Mera to have the Atlanteans hang a few fish, a sudden exclamation came from aboard the ship: "Oh!!!"

Only to see Sif's fishing rod suddenly bend sharply, obviously a big one had taken the hook!

The Marvel people nearby all exclaimed and cheered: "First catch, lady, first catch! You've made a good start! Be sure to haul this guy up!"

Thor stood nearby, smug and satisfied, waving his hand as he said: "I told you before, in the Asgard Hunting Tournament, Sif is always first place; back then, a frost giant beast ran into a spacetime rift, and she just plucked it out with one hand; that several-meter-tall monster didn't dare move in her grip, and back then we were only over a hundred years old..."

The two childhood friends, when Thor brought up Sif's past, he spoke as if recounting family treasures, not noticing Sif's situation. To put it bluntly, even if the largest blue marlin came, it would only be four or five meters; how could the Aesir gods possibly fail to haul it in? Thor was already thinking about which passage to brag about after the first catch was hooked.

But he didn't expect that Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl, Shiler, and other DC people would come rushing over at high speed. Wonder Woman raised Captain America's shield to block forward, and Hawkgirl even drew out her weapons, actually squeezing Thor to the side.

Sif also wanted to know what they were doing, but she was more focused on the fish in her hand. Although her fishing rod was somewhat slender, the line had a high tensile strength, and her basic skills were solid; one foot forward, one foot back, she planted her stance firmly, exerted force from her waist, and suddenly swung forward; under the light, the silvery-white silhouette of the large fish suddenly leapt out of the water.

"Wow, a wolf perch, it's a perch!"

"This really is a big fellow!!!"

"Exactly, this is estimated to be about one and a half meters long, making it a big fellow among perch!"

Shiler also saw it, but he discovered that this was not the common striped wolf perch of New York's inshore waters, but a feral-natured flower perch. This kind of perch is larger in size and stronger in power; just now, when Sif pulled like that, even if she didn't use full force, the fish was merely lifted out of the water, not flying straight up, which shows its strength.

Sif obviously also realized that this is a relatively formidable fish among earthly creatures. She glanced at Thor, not rushing to use brute force to pull, but instead, like a human, she gave a little take and release, beginning to slowly exhaust the fish's stamina.

Who would have thought, this fish really has two brushes, it was led back and forth five or six times, and still not tired, when running outward it was still lively and jumping. Sif thought that giving it a couple of tugs to liven up the atmosphere would be enough; by then, everyone's cheering voices would be hoarse, and if she still couldn't haul it up, it would be embarrassing, so she planted one foot against the nearby railing and began to reel in the line in an orderly fashion.

During this, the fish kept struggling, but this kind of perch might be difficult to unhook due to its mouth shape, and the line Sif used was also relatively good, so even though it struggled fiercely, the line never snapped, and it was just this little bit that Sif hard-pulled back.

Seeing this, Shiler knew it was not good; he regretted a bit not bringing his own umbrella, so he turned his head to look at Diana holding the shield, and Diana gave him a "Don't worry, watch me" look.

Sif jerked left, the silver silhouette leapt high out of the water; according to a normal parabolic trajectory, it should have fallen to the ground behind and to the left of Sif, but that thing in midair suddenly twisted its body, made a sharp turn in the air, and came straight at Sif's forehead.

Sif completely didn't expect that the fish could still fight back; she instinctively raised her arm to block, but Wonder Woman's movement was faster, with a whoosh the shield flew out and struck the fish's tail with a bang, sending it back into the sea.

But this fish obviously wasn't that easy to deal with; it made another extreme turn, first quickly flicking its tail downstream toward the sea surface, then a dash, leapt out of the water again, and this time plunged straight onto the deck.

After getting up, they discovered it was even larger than they had estimated; this thing is at least two meters long, and its powerful tail swept hard, even capable of bouncing up from the ground.

The flower perch landed right where Peter was; Peter instinctively dodged to the side, nearly bumping into Shiler, but Shiler had anticipated it and also dodged to the side, so the two avoided falling together on the deck.

"Ah, sorry, Professor, I didn't see you." Peter looked somewhat shaken, his eyes still fixed straight on that fish, obviously never having seen such a large perch. This thing standing upright is taller than a person; at this moment, it was flopping on the deck at a frequency of six times per second, and drenched in water, but anyone who could run away was screaming and retreating.

And those who had tied themselves to the fishing chairs were in misery; when this thing charged up, it was like a big wave, directly drenching several people to the bone; immediately following, this bout of wild flopping slapped them in the face dozens of times, and not a single one escaped.

Sif also froze for a moment, then instinctively reached for her weapon, but couldn't find it; she had just thought to jump up and strike, when Thor pulled her to the side.

"What are you doing?" Sif turned her head to look at him and said, "It's just a fish..."

"I think we two are still a bit overconfident." Thor said, "You'd better not get close to it, in case this thing is poisonous."

"No way, I haven't heard of such a fish being poisonous..."

"Look at this thing, does it look like a fish???"

Sif followed Thor's gaze, placed a hand on her conscience and said, from appearance alone, it can also be classified under the fish class, with certain similarities, but if you say it compares to the sea perch they ate during the day, then basically it's two different things.
