Chapter 537: Schiller

~14 min read 2,610 words

Left or right, that is a question.

Before exploring this question, it is necessary to clarify what is left and what is right. Some people may think that Communism is left and Capitalism is right, which is not entirely correct.

When this concept was first developed, left represented radical, and right represented conservative. Later, Marx believed that left-leaning represented advanced systems and lower-class masses, while right-leaning represented old systems and the power class.

And in Western social economics, left represents democracy, and right represents freedom. That's right, the original democracy and freedom were actually opposite concepts.

Specific details don't need to be talked about, but one point must be mentioned, and that is extreme left and extreme right.

The so-called extreme left, using a concept that is not completely accurate but relatively easy to understand, is the bottomless sacrifice of individual freedom to serve public safety. Everything should be under the control of an absolutely powerful state machine, and individuals do not retain any freedom.

And extreme right is to open all restrictions, cancel welfare for the weak, the law of the jungle, the state should not impose any control, implement oligarchy, and pursue all freedom.

I believe many people can see it after seeing this. From the fact, the Superhuman Registration Act is actually a left-leaning act.

As mentioned before, only left-leaning will care about the safety of the bottom masses, which is the so-called public safety, advocating sacrificing part of individual freedom, supporting the weak, and achieving equality.

If it were right-leaning, then this act wouldn't be made at all. Superheroes are stronger, and the weak are weak, which is their own problem.

But the problem is, this is America, a capitalist country where the right wing is rampant. And why this is so is also related to the concepts mentioned before. Capitalists certainly hope that the government will not intervene in the economy. The less management, the better. It is best not to give any welfare to the bottom people at all, so they don't have to pay taxes.

Then, in such a country, why would they come up with a Superhuman Act? There are two reasons.

First, essentially, politicians and capitalists are different. Politicians are not gold-standard, but power-standard. Everything they do depends on the size of their authority. The priority of anything cannot be higher than the power in their hands.

Therefore, the ideological struggle is like a gun. When you need to shoot, you shoot. When you don't need it, it's best to be dumb. As long as power can be maximized, left or right is not a problem.

Therefore, as long as these superheroes can be controlled to serve their authority, ideology is not the most important.

Second, the law of the jungle pursued by the right wing is not suitable for this matter because, for superheroes, all ordinary people are the weak side. The law of the jungle, isn't that just sending themselves to be eaten by superheroes?

When they are strong, they naturally want to advocate the law of the jungle, but when they are weak, they must propose an act to restrict and supervise the strong. This is why left and right are an eternal proposition, always in a state of swaying.

Some people might say, since left-leaning is more inclined to Communism and considers the bottom masses more, then in this matter, Congress instead plays the role of a liberator and is a good person.

But it is actually not that simple. Left and right must not only look at behavior and results but also look at motivation. Or rather, in the ideological struggle, if you want to see the essence through the appearance, you must look at the first motivation.

Congress proposed this act, essentially not for the bottom masses. The "public safety is the top priority of our task" said by the congressman who presided over the meeting before can be heard in reverse.

In fact, public safety is the thing they consider last. The first thing they consider is the size of authority, the second is the separation of authority, the third is personal interest, and only then might there be the safety of ordinary people.

Or, in fact, they didn't consider the safety of ordinary people at all because they knew very clearly that once the contradictions between superheroes were ignited, the war brought about might threaten public safety even more, but they didn't care at all.

Therefore, if one wants to define the Superhuman Registration Act, it can be said that the logic of this act is left-leaning, but the motivation and the final result must be right-leaning.

After analyzing this point, let's look at everyone's choice in the original comic.

Iron Man chose to agree to the act, while Captain America chose to disagree. Essentially, this is not because Iron Man protects ordinary people and Captain America protects superheroes, but because the congressmen used this act to create a trap.

That is, they showed Iron Man the left-leaning part of the act. With Iron Man's wisdom, he could naturally understand that this act was actually left-leaning. If it were effectively pushed forward, it could protect ordinary people.

"Guard is here"

But what they showed Captain America was the extreme left part of this act, that is, excessive sacrifice of individual freedom to achieve strong power, including the result of both sides suffering after it could not be effectively pushed forward.

Essentially, the two of them saw different parts of this plan. It couldn't be said who was wrong. If one had to find a culprit for the civil war, it was the person who thought of this act and used word games and information gaps to divide the two.

From this logic, if one wants to break the civil war caused by the Superhuman Registration Act, there are many ways.

For example, acting as a bridge in the middle, making the information gap between the two disappear, that is, letting them understand what the other is pursuing and what they are worried about.

This method has a high probability of being able to ease the conflict and let them sit down and talk, but the final result will still very likely be the implementation of the registration act, just becoming softer, changing from left-leaning to a middle route leaning left, then the final purpose of the act will also change from expanding authority to stabilizing.

On the surface, this is a win-win for all parties, but in reality, it is still superheroes taking a step back, and with the first step, there will be the second and third steps.

But in fact, there is a more labor-saving method.

Left and right, just like directions in reality, are compared.

Compared with the extreme right that requires the government not to interfere at all and implement oligarchy, the center-right that only requires the government not to pay too much attention to the economy appears very left.

Similarly, compared with the extreme left Schiller who requires superheroes to completely abandon personal information freedom and be forcibly controlled by the state, the entire act appears very conservative and right-leaning.

The so-called method to solve this problem is actually that when the left on the surface of this act is compared with the extreme left and appears very right, then the information seen by Iron Man and Captain America is consistent, and there is no so-called information gap between one looking at content and one looking at motivation.

At the same time, due to the comparison, Iron Man, who was originally slightly left-leaning, and Captain America, who was conservative and right-leaning, were kicked into the right-wing camp by the extreme left Schiller, naturally standing in the same camp.

As long as you are not as left as me, you are all right-wingers.

The problem is, how could Iron Man and Captain America be more left than Schiller?

Schiller is no longer left. He belongs to the kind who plans to carry America on a car, turn the steering wheel to the left, and then step on the accelerator...

Ask, and it's acceleration.

Hearing Schiller's outrageous plan, Captain America couldn't agree. He slapped the table, stood up and said:

"I don't agree! Schiller, you are crazy!"

"Captain America..." Schiller sighed, his tone returned to calm, no longer having such fanaticism, but it was more dangerous. He walked out of his table, came to the center of the venue, and looked into Steve's eyes and said:

"You have participated in so many wars. When you see your comrades-in-arms injured, bleeding, and dying on the front line, do you feel sad?"

Steve also walked out and said: "Of course I do, and it is precisely because I don't want my current comrades to repeat this tragedy that I don't want them to become tools controlled by the government."

"Then ask yourself, will they regret it?"

Steve pursed his lips and said: "No, of course they won't regret it. They are all true iron warriors, bleeding without tears, how could they regret it?"

"Then why don't they regret it?"

Steve looked at Schiller silently, and Schiller also stared at him. Steve saw a kind of light he was somewhat familiar with in Schiller's eyes.

"They don't regret it because they know that they are fighting and bleeding on the front line to protect the ordinary people behind them. They are sacrificing themselves for the billions of lives behind them."

"Then, you who have fought side by side with them, why are you unwilling to sacrifice yourself for the ordinary people behind you?"

"The registration act doesn't even ask you to bleed and die. It only asks you to pay your information and accept supervision. This is reasonable and should be."

"Your comrades-in-arms once paid so much, including their most precious lives, just to let ordinary people no longer fall into the flames of war..."

"And now, you refuse this act, which is letting ordinary people fall into the danger of superheroes suddenly erupting at any time. You didn't make the era go backward, but you made the spirit go backward."

"Captain America, you are nostalgic for that era, but that era may not be nostalgic for you because you are not worthy."

Stark, sitting on the other side, saw Steve reveal a painful expression.

It is very difficult to debate in front of a psychologist who has treated you because he always uses your former weaknesses as a sword. At this moment, words are more powerful than fists.

"Stop talking, Schiller!" Stark walked out from behind the table and said: "I don't want to question your faith, but the method you mentioned is too absurd. No one can accept it."

Schiller also looked into his eyes and said: "This is like a scale. One side is your personal information, and the other side is public safety. Do you think your personal information is more important than the lives of ordinary people?"

"I didn't think so." Stark denied it, but he still couldn't say the "can consider" words that had already reached his mouth.

Schiller raised the tone too high. If he followed Schiller's words now, the next step would be to liberate Washington.

What's more, others didn't know, didn't he know? Schiller was already crazy enough to want to resurrect the Soviet Union. Now, Schiller's foot was on the accelerator. He would try every means to find every reason to step on it. Stark must never give Schiller this opportunity.

Therefore, Stark and Schiller began to debate.

However, as everyone knows, the more extreme the remarks, the stronger the aggression, and the more they can occupy an advantageous position in the debate. Schiller held the core ideology of extreme left, everything serves the public, everyone will have no self, become a part of the country, only then can they achieve true equality and democracy.

Then, if Stark still held that set of right-leaning theory, he couldn't beat Schiller at all. Therefore, he must be more and more right-leaning until he reached extreme right, to have the possibility of confronting Schiller.

Then the question comes, can Congress accept extreme left? Or can they accept extreme right?

In fact, they can't accept either.

Extreme left means the red ghost is about to revive, and extreme right means the government's authority is weakened to the lowest, economic oligarchs occupy an advantage, which is completely not what they want.

It's like letting them choose shit-flavored shit or shit-flavored shit.

They actually just want to make an act, let superheroes and S. H. I. E. L. D. consume each other, so as to improve their own power. How did it suddenly become an ideological struggle of life and death?

But now, the ceiling has been lifted by Schiller. The superheroes present have all been wrapped into the increasingly fierce debate between him and Stark.

Debates between smart people often have very strong agitation. The atmosphere has been paved to this point. If the future direction of America is not decided today, it will never end well. At least the bystander superheroes all think so.

But the problem is, Congress doesn't want to engage in ideological struggle at all. Everyone knows that once this kind of struggle begins, everyone present, whether left or right, cannot escape the terrible purge.

Finally, a congressman who presided over the meeting couldn't bear it anymore. He slapped the table hard and said: "Both sides return to their positions! Quiet! Listen to me! Stop!

What he wants to say next is to let both sides think calmly, not to raise the situation to an overly extreme level, and then say some polite words used for pulling fights, and then announce the end of the meeting.

Open another meeting another day, exclude the extreme Moon Knight, and then use other reasons to provoke Iron Man and Captain America.

But just when he wanted to say this, Schiller pointed with his hand, and a silver light hit the congressman. He suddenly found that he couldn't make a sound.

At this time, he heard Schiller say:

"To prove that I am not just talking, I am willing to set an example and take the lead in announcing my real identity and specific abilities, to show my determination to maintain public safety."

Saying this, the silver on his body slowly receded, along with the iron mask on his mouth disappearing. After Schiller revealed his face, not many people recognized him because he didn't often appear in front of the screen. Next, he began his self-introduction.

"I know, not many people know me, but I must introduce myself. My name is Schiller Rodriguez, a psychologist, and also a psychologist. You can see my papers in major journals. Without being humble, my academic level is still quite good."

"At the same time, I also serve as a psychologist at S. H. I. E. L. D. This one, Iron Man, has received 230 hours of treatment from me. This one, Captain America, S. H. I. E. L. D. has scheduled 130 treatments for him, but he only came for less than half..."

"The rest..." Schiller stretched out his finger and pointed at the superheroes present. He said: "You should know that the pressure as a superhero is also very great. They are all frequent visitors to my place."

When saying this, the expressions of everyone below had changed. S. H. I. E. L. D.'s psychologist is an extreme leftist, and every superhero present has received his treatment...

Is it treatment or preaching?!

But next, Schiller's words made them truly feel terrified.

"And my ability... perhaps you know someone, my special ability, from type to intensity, is very similar to him, that is—"
