Chapter 590: Adventures in Cat City Gotham (Part 1)
The first floor, or ground floor, of the Hall of Thought had no rooms, only doors, windows, and the ground, as well as the stairs leading to the upper floors. Because of this, Schiller could observe the situation outside the Hall of Thought through the windows on the first floor.
Because this was a circular tower, the view from the windows was very wide. At this moment, the tower of the Hall of Thought happened to land right in the center of the roundabout in the heart of Gotham City, so the entire situation in the center of Gotham City was visible at a glance.
After being swallowed by the group of kittens transformed by the Dream of a Thousand Cats, Schiller had guessed what might happen next. But what he didn't expect was that the Dream of a Thousand Cats had actually dragged his entire Hall of Thought into a cat's dream.
After taking a look at the situation outside, Schiller walked back to the center of the first floor. He looked at the Dream King, Morpheus. Without him asking, Morpheus explained, "I said before, the Dream of a Thousand Cats is the collective dream of cats. Now, it must have been frightened, so it dragged you all into its dream."
"Just as I said before, cats once ruled the world. Cats were the masters, and humans were the servants. It's just that a thousand people had a dream together and then replaced reality with the dream, so humans became the masters of the Earth."
"However, the cat's dream did not dissipate because of this; it still exists in the Dream Realm. And in the cat's dream, that world ruled by cats also exists, just as you see. In a cat's dream, the residents of the world are naturally all cats."
"First question..." Schiller asked, "Why is there a Gotham in the cat's dream?"
"This..." Morpheus shook his head and said, "Although I said I don't know, it might sound like I'm intentionally unwilling to tell you, but the fact is, I really don't know."
"As far as I know, Gotham is a very strange place. The dreams of everyone there bring cold, dark winds to the Dream Realm. No other place has ever been as special as Gotham."
"Perhaps, besides the people living there, the cats there are also different. They remember this place cursed by darkness..."
Schiller frowned. Although Morpheus's explanation was ambiguous, Schiller, who had read the comics, had more speculations. Gotham was indeed a cursed place; this was beyond doubt. The darkness here was not a simple economic or political issue, but also involved the occult.
If viewed from the perspective of breaking the fourth wall, Gotham would exist in any state of the universe because this was the garbage dump of the entire universe, and darkness and chaos would eventually flow here.
Since that was the case, it wasn't strange that there would be such a place in a cat's dream. No matter who ruled the world, the darkness of Gotham would never change. Perhaps the place where Schiller landed was not the same as Gotham in terms of geographical location, but as long as this was a garbage dump of sin, then this was Gotham.
Just then, Morpheus turned to Schiller and said, "Although you made a mess of my home, I only let Little Black out because I wanted him to get some air. After all, staying in the Dream Realm all day is boring."
"I didn't expect its reaction to be so intense, and it even moved your house away. But it doesn't matter, I'll take you all back now..."
As he spoke, Morpheus's hands lit up with light, but suddenly, Schiller stepped forward and stopped him, saying, "No, I don't want to go back right now..."
Morpheus looked at Schiller and said, "Are you sure? But don't blame me for not warning you. Your consciousness has been brought into the cat's dream, so your body is left unmanaged and might fall into an eternal sleep..."
"That's even better." Schiller gave an unexpected answer. He revealed a smile that made one's back feel cold.
Morpheus looked at Schiller's smile and felt his back go cold again. He asked, "... What do you want to do?"
Schiller didn't answer. He just stood in the center of the ground floor, looked up, and shouted, "Superego? Superego? Are you there?"
"I'm currently enhancing our mental defenses. Can't you see that it's a mess outside?" A voice came from upstairs.
The people on the ground floor all turned to look out the window. As expected, this giant building that had suddenly descended into the center of the town had attracted the attention of all the residents of Cat City Gotham.
Piercing sirens sounded. A number of police cars arrived at the scene. Cat police officers wearing safety protective gear and helmets entered, set up riot shields, laid out roadblocks, and surrounded the gate of the tower in an orderly fashion.
Schiller discovered that this wasn't just a matter of replacing human roles with cats. These cats weren't the anthropomorphic cats that walked on two legs in cartoons, but were very normal, walking on four legs with their tails held high.
The equipment these cats used was all adapted for cats. For example, the cars they drove weren't operated by sitting, steering, and pressing the gas pedal; instead, they stood on all fours in the cockpit, and the controllers for the vehicle's direction and speed were buttons under their feet.
The gear worn by the cat officers was also adapted for cats walking on four legs. Their guns weren't held in their hands but were carried on their backs. Moreover, the weapons weren't live-fire guns that needed reloading, but a type of laser-like weapon.
The communication equipment they carried had one end extending into their ears, with the earpiece hidden in their ear fur, and the other end connected to their mouths. The joystick to control firing extended from the side of their neck to their chest. They only needed to extend a claw to flick it to fire.
Schiller saw with his own eyes that in order to clear the curb of the road blocking the front of the tower gate, several cats carrying road-clearing equipment manipulated the laser weapons on their backs, and with a few "pew-pew" sounds, the entire curb was destroyed.
In addition, the vehicles they drove weren't just cars; there were also small helicopters constantly circling the tower, as well as flying saucers hovering in the air. Clearly, the cats in this dream had developed technology and equipment far stronger than that of the Gotham in the real world.
Although in terms of size, they should only be slightly larger than ordinary house cats—about the size of an ordinary Maine Coon—the equipment they deployed around the tower and carried on their bodies was nothing to sneeze at.
The destructive power of that kind of laser was very strong, and there were many other pieces of equipment that hadn't been fired yet, so it was unknown what kind of effects they had, but they were definitely more than enough to deal with ordinary humans.
This meant that relying on size advantage to rush into the cat crowd wasn't a good idea. Schiller touched his chin and said, "I think we probably can't beat them, so we should change our approach."
"Wait a minute!" Morpheus interrupted Schiller's plan and said, "Don't tell me you intend to enter this city. This isn't a good idea. In a world ruled by cats, humans are either slaves or pets. I'd better just take you all away..."
Schiller ignored him completely and continued to speak to himself: "... However, we can't beat them, so we join them. Superego, are you done? If you're done..."
Schiller dragged out a long tone, then looked at Moonlight Schiller, Lex, and Khonshu standing in the center of the room, as well as Jörmungandr, who was poking its head out from behind them. He continued:
"... It's time for the troublemakers to make up for their mistakes."
The two people, one snake, and one bird, who were being stared at by his gaze, were all stunned. Lex spoke first, "When I came out of the room, I only saw a cat and a snake, and then that cat disappeared, leaving only that snake..."
As he spoke, he turned to look at Jörmungandr. Jörmungandr said irritably, "What does that have to do with me? I'm a victim too. That cat bit me and ran away; otherwise, I would have made it look good! And it was clearly him who scared the cat..."
Jörmungandr turned to look at Moonlight Schiller, who was carrying a parasol blade. Moonlight Schiller said nothing, just turned his head to look at Khonshu, implying that if it weren't for Khonshu suddenly skipping work, he wouldn't have rushed out of the room.
Khonshu turned to look at the Dream King, implying that if it weren't for the Dream King Morpheus chatting with him, he wouldn't have missed his work time.
Morpheus turned to look at DC Schiller, implying that if it weren't for Schiller bringing him here, he wouldn't have been chatting with Khonshu.
Schiller crossed his arms and snorted coldly, saying, "You guys still want to blame me?"
Suddenly, with a "poof," a puff of smoke appeared beside DC Schiller. After the smoke cleared, Schiller had turned into a black cat.
(Author's note: loubiqu)
An invisible hand grabbed the back of his neck. The door opened with a "creak." That hand grabbed Schiller the cat and shook him twice, then threw him out the door with a "whoosh."
Everyone standing in the center of the room watched the thrown-out Schiller. They heard the voice that had just been called "Superego" say:
"It's time for the troublemaker to make up for his mistake." ===== CHAPTER 591 =====
