Chapter 600: Long Live the Cats! (Part 2)

~11 min read 2,088 words

"I know you feel very confused." When Alfred the Cat spoke, Batman felt his heart tighten; he had never heard his butler use such an aged and weak voice.

Immediately after, a trace of anger began to rise within Batman, but he took a few deep breaths, suppressed the angry emotion, and began to listen intently to Alfred telling the story of the past.

"This is a Cat City, and the residents are all cats, but what they don't know is that there is another story here: the birds of Gotham did not go extinct like they did in other parts of the world."

"After the cat race flourished, other species retreated to remote corners of the world and gradually went extinct, but only the birds in Gotham survived with the help of the special dark power here."

"They have been lurking in the Gotham underground, plotting for a chance to counterattack the surface, until they found an opportunity to kill Batman Cat's parents, and then, they killed the Godfather Cat who had been ruling this city, as well as the most prestigious Priest Cat."

"I knew their target would be Batman Cat, so I secretly sent him away, and in the end, when they invaded the manor, I was imprisoned by them, but I knew that one day, Batman Cat would return."

Just after Alfred the Cat finished saying these words, Batman suddenly felt the moonlight become dim; rain clouds obscured the moon, thunder roared in the distance, and suddenly, a heavy downpour began.

Only then did Batman realize that since he arrived in this city, it had not rained once.

And when the rain fell, Batman Cat saw that the bright green color on the green cat opposite began to fade gradually; the dye was washed away by the rain, falling to the ground and revealing his original fur color—it was black, the same black as Batman's.

"In order to disguise my identity and accumulate strength, I have been active in Gotham's sewers and dyed my fur extremely bright to cover up the black."

"To ensure the dye wouldn't wash off while I was active, I built a weather controller to stop Gotham from raining." Joker Cat, or rather the real Batman Cat, stood soaking wet in the rain; he was very thin, but his eyes were still bright.

Batman was stunned for a moment, then he looked down and said, "So, at that time, the rock party you put on..."

"Was just to cover the sound of the weather controller," the real Batman Cat replied.

Batman remembered that he had indeed heard a slightly different sound amidst the chaotic and noisy rock music at the time. He had even stopped to listen closely, but unfortunately, the sound information captured by a feline's keen hearing didn't match the common sense in his brain, so he only heard some noise and couldn't distinguish what it actually was.

Everything connected; in this world, Batman Cat's parents were killed by the Owls lurking here, and the Owls also killed the Godfather Cat and the Priest Cat, and imprisoned Alfred the Cat.

The Batman Cat hidden by Alfred the Cat was still young and lacked power, so he could only hide until this group of Owls changed their method of ruling Gotham, and only then did the Batman Cat, disguised as Joker Cat, finally begin to show himself.

Even without this group of outsiders, his final battle with the Court of Owls would have come, because as the Court of Owls continued to deepen their control over the city in this way, he would have nowhere left to hide, and the final battle was about to begin.

However, this group of outsiders provided Batman Cat with more opportunities, so the Batman Cat disguised as Joker Cat, upon meeting Batman for the first time, used that kind of Joker-like crazy talk to subtly hint at the strangeness of this city to Batman, and took advantage of the chaos caused by these outsiders to attract the fake, rescuing his butler, Alfred the Cat.

It must be said that the plan of the Batman Cat disguised as Joker Cat coincided with Schiller's plan; the focus of both their plans was to utilize Batman.

Batman sighed and said, "Since that's the case, we have already dealt with this Owl, then..."

Suddenly, Constantine let out a low growl, his eyes instantly lighting up with the glow of magic, and a magic shield enveloped all the cats. The moment the shield formed, an extremely surging dark power erupted from underground.

"This is far from over," said the soaking wet Batman Cat. "There isn't just one Owl; they have a group, and they control the darkness beneath Gotham. Now that their plan is exposed, what we have to face is the attack of this group of dark Owls."

No sooner had he finished speaking than that dark power condensed into a giant Owl. When its sharp claws struck the shield, all the fur on Constantine's body stood on end, and he let out a sharp cry.

"Hurry and leave here! My shield won't last long; I don't have that much power!" Constantine gritted his teeth and said, "No wonder the useless magic circle lit up when I summoned the demon before; that was them acting!"

"This power is exactly the same as the power that condensed into that demon cat before! The strange smell I caught at the time was the smell of bird droppings!... Damn it, I can't summon a demon; I can't block this for long with my own power!"

At this moment, Clark, who was floating in mid-air, was grabbed by the dark power that had condensed into a solid form. He tried to break free, but that dark power kept invading his body, making him weak.

Superman's physical attack was very high, but his magic resistance was not that high. However, he wouldn't be completely controlled by the dark Owl. Just as he was about to break free, a surging black wave erupted and attacked his companions.

But Batman Cat didn't show any fear; he turned his head to look at Batman and said, "Find a way to stall him for a while."

"Where are you going?"

Batman Cat arrived at the edge of the building in a few steps, looked back at Batman, and said, "Remember what I said? I'm going to give them a surprise rock party."

Just as Constantine was struggling to support the magic shield, he suddenly caught the vibration of the ground. Batman risked jumping out of the shield, stood at the edge of the building looking down, and then he saw the ground at the center of Gotham City's roundabout suddenly split open, and a huge stage rose up.

Robotic arms, no less impressive than the giant robot the fake Batman Cat had produced, rose up, and countless instruments, unimaginably huge for cats, were put into place: microphones, bass, guitars, drum kits, keyboards...

Each instrument was as big as a building, countless mechanical light strips gradually lit up, circular mechanical arm control rooms flew above the instruments, and the light beams from the spotlights at the edge of the stage shot straight into the sky, lighting up the entire city.

Batman Cat stood at the lead singer's position in the middle and shouted into the microphone, "Come on, join me! This is Batman Cat's first time attending a party!"

Constantine's shield could no longer hold; after it shattered, several cats fled in all directions.

Constantine jumped toward that side first and said, "You were careless! Batman Cat! You didn't notice at all that there is such an excellent bass player here! If any rock music festival hasn't invited me, then their organizers should jump into the sea to feed the sharks!"

Saying this, he jumped in two or three steps along the drum kit platform into the mechanical arm control room, manipulated two mechanical arms to pick up that huge bass, and with a "twang," the huge tremor emitted by the electronic instrument made all the cats unable to help but lie on the ground, pulling their ears back.

And that giant Owl composed of black energy had its feathers explode instantly. Batman jumped to the side of the drum kit, his figure nimbly darting into the control room floating above the stool, and he said, "So, when you said at the beginning that the huge music would be their weakness, this is what you meant."

The rain fell harder and harder; even without playing, the raindrops hitting those metal instruments made an annoying tremor. Clark arrived at the control room next to the giant guitar, rubbed his paws, and said, "Thanks to my multi-talented father, I hope I still remember the fingering he taught me."

"Hurry up! Only the keyboardist is left!" Constantine appeared even more excited than Batman Cat and said, "Come on, baby, music is my eternal lover; let's throw ourselves into the embrace of psychedelic rock together!"

Finally, a figure that appeared incomparably bright in the dark, rainy night jumped over, climbed along the rack to the side of the keyboard, and darted into that circular control room. Gordon Cat pressed the button.

"Da! Da-da! Da! Da!" After the rhythmic tapping sound rang out, the "boom-cha-cha" drum beat followed closely, the bass and guitar sounded at the same time, and the compact tremor cut through the sky.

This huge stage that occupied the entire center of Gotham City, after rising from underground, had its background board just happen to prop up Schiller's Tower of Thought, so the various instruments played around the tower, and the mechanical arms danced in the rain.

Those colorful vehicles, flying saucers, and neon-like billboards all became the audience for this concert.

I don't know when, and I don't know who sang the first line of lyrics:

"We are born for freedom—Long live the cats!"

"Flick the cans onto the floor, break the plates and tableware, scratch up the sofa and the carpet, are you angry?!"

"Hey! How about some more? Pick up the gun! Pull the trigger! Long live the cats!"

"We are born for freedom! This is a cat, oh! Long live!"

Accompanied by the intense music, that dark Owl began to go crazy. An Owl's hearing is keener than a cat's; with such intense music playing nearby, it could barely control its power.

And when those dark powers swept across the city, they not only broke the buildings but also broke the locks of those iron cages. The cats rushed out of the cages, came to the balconies, and came to the streets. Although the huge music made them dizzy, they still danced along with the rhythm.

I don't know which cat started singing along, and the singing spread among the cats.

"Hey, we are born for freedom, this is a cat, long live the cats!"

"Mess up the yarn! Eat the snacks! Destroy everything that can be destroyed, we are born for fun! This is a cat! Long live the cats!"

"Oh! Oh! Hey! Are you angry?"

Constantine held his cat paw high, extended one claw pointing to the sky, and kept shaking his head. All the cats shook their heads along with the rhythm, the singing resounded throughout Gotham, the rhythm became faster and faster, the drum beats became stronger and stronger, the floating flying saucers began to rotate around the stage, and the traffic returned to prosperity.

This chaotic and confused scene revealed a trace of cuteness in the Cat City; Gotham's chaos and the cat's freedom combined to complement each other perfectly.

Finally, that dark Owl, which could no longer endure it, let out a scream, and its body grew bigger and bigger, until the shadow once again shrouded the top of the stage.

Obviously, it didn't intend to keep the fruits of its construction anymore, but wanted to kill all these annoying cats.

The music reached a low point, and the cats in the revelry all looked up at the sky. Gotham's night rain fell on them, making every cat soaking wet, but once the crazy flame unique to Gotham is ignited, it can never be extinguished.

All the cats arched their bodies and extended their claws, but just at the moment when that massive darkness descended, a voice sounded from the tower behind the stage:

"So noisy!"

Instantly, the rain clouds dispersed, the sky returned to brightness, and the darkness disappeared without a trace. ===== CHAPTER 601 =====
