Chapter 283: Building Block Duck

~7 min read 1,360 words

If one were to say that Bouldust expended every effort, successfully grasped Dragon-type energy, and in one go advanced to the point of being able to hover above the head — that would be worth rejoicing over.

Then what the single-headed dragon brought was pure, unadulterated shock.

"Goods must be thrown out when compared with better goods, people must die when compared with better people. In the end, it's a Dragon-type Pokémon, so don't feel too bad about it."

《Asura Martial God》

He was comforting Bouldust.

Before the two of them, the single-headed dragon was charging back and forth across the field like a mad dog, Dragon-type energy of an indigo blue surging over its body from time to time, coalescing into a ferocious energy dragon head.

"Mo nao—"

"Mo nao mo nao—"

This little fellow was like an elementary schooler who had just learned to ride a bicycle, constantly using cries to draw the attention of its male-mama All Baimu, wanting him to look at its new move.

"Wonderful! Amazing! The single-headed dragon is so strong!"

The latter could only keep calling out in response — after all, this little blind dragon couldn't see clearly, and without speaking it wouldn't know whether its trainer was actually paying attention to it.

"Mo nao!"

Hearing his encouragement, the single-headed dragon immediately grew even more excited.

Bouldust, on the other hand, was more or less a little unconvinced — why didn't you learn Dragon Pulse this fast? Hmm?

Learning Dragon Rush and you're already comparing yourself to me?

No, I'm the ace, I must have the bearing of an ace.

Bouldust kept suppressing the anger in its heart, remaining composed and calm on the surface, completely unlike the ferocious Pokémon in many people's impressions.

The wild Bouldust wore a blank look, glancing at the single-headed dragon — excited as a husky — then at All Baimu — smiling like a flower — and then—

Don't look, don't look, feels like it'd pick a fight with a "What are you looking at?"

It certainly wasn't very cultured, but it understood well enough not to provoke someone in a foul mood, especially when the angry party was stronger than itself.

"Alright, alright, that's enough for today, that's enough."

All Baimu called a halt to the single-headed dragon that was going wild.

From the moment Bouldust comprehended Dragon-type energy until now, more than half an hour had already passed.

During this half hour, the wild Bouldust had been demonstrating the release procedure of Dragon Rush very seriously, and the big monster and the little blind dragon had also been learning very seriously.

And the final result was exactly as shown before them now.

This was only its second practice session, yet the single-headed dragon had already learned Dragon Rush.

How many days did Pikachu take to learn Iron Tail? Not very clear, but counting by episodes, it only took four.

"Having a diligent genius in the team isn't easy either." All Baimu shook his head and sighed, recalling the three Pokémon and sending them to the hall to hand over to Young Lady Qiao Yin.

Shortly after.

He returned to the field once more, first releasing Chansey.

"Lucky~"

"In a bit a new little partner will come out, so keep an eye out. If it tries to run, don't let it go too far and affect the others." He advised in a gentle voice.

Chansey nodded to show it understood.

Only then did All Baimu release Porygon.

Bang!

Bai Guang flickered.

Porygon landed on the ground, looking like a paper crane that had been blown up several times its size.

This fellow's entire body was covered in edges and corners, almost nowhere possessing any curves — even the outer contour of its eyes was hexagonal, with only the part representing its pupil being a tiny black dot.

"Pory?"

Porygon surveyed its surroundings with its dead-fish eyes, seemingly not having expected to appear in this place.

"Hello."

All Baimu crouched down, extending a hand to it as a gesture of friendliness. "Professor Akihabara has entrusted you to my care, so from now on we'll be partners. I'm All Baimu, and this is Chansey."

"Lucky~" Chansey waved its little hand in greeting.

Porygon looked at them, as if recording the two into its memory units — after a pause of one second, its black-bean-like pupils curved into crescents.

"Pory~"

It could be seen floating up from the ground, quite cheerfully waving the blue polygonal blocks on either side that symbolized propulsion.

Huh?

It can fly?

All Baimu was both surprised that Porygon could break free from the constraints of gravity, and delighted that it was friendlier and gentler than he had imagined — one could only say that Professor Akihabara had put in a great deal of effort to get Porygon promoted.

As for Porygon2... presumably it was because the intelligent learning system couldn't be effectively controlled, which left Professor Akihabara quite embarrassed as well.

No wonder, despite having such a good evolution, Professor Akihabara hadn't made it the main Pokémon to promote — no one wants a Pokémon that looks down on them every single day.

By comparison, Rotom was much better — like Ash's Rotom Pokédex, it only ever felt shock and disbelief at his antics again and again, quite comical.

All Baimu opened his phone Pokédex and checked its various stats once more.

【Pokémon: Porygon】

【Type: Normal】

【Gender: None】

【Height: 80cm / Weight: 36.5kg】

【Ability: Download】

【Level: 35】

【Moves: Tackle / Conversion / Conversion2 / Tri Attack】

【Psybeam/Agility/Recover】

【Magnet Rise/Signal Beam/Recycle】

"I have to say, as expected of a designed Pokémon—it's stable in every respect." He was looking at the document Dr. Akihabara had sent to his phone last night, comparing it against the Pokédex entries.

The document was a list of moves Porygon could learn, with notations for which moves it would pick up automatically at each level, so that even without deliberate training it could eventually grasp them on its own.

Unlike ordinary Pokémon—take Pikachu as an example—some could learn Thunder at level forty-four, while others would never learn it in their entire lives unless actively trained.

Of course.

Porygon also had quite a few moves that needed to be taught actively, and Dr. Akihabara had listed those out one by one as well.

But without question, Porygon had no egg moves.

For its Ability, it had originally been designed with two—【Trace】 and 【Download】—but by sheer chance a third hidden Ability, 【Analytic】, had come into being.

The one Dr. Akihabara had entrusted to All Baimu possessed the second Ability, 【Download】.

Its effect: if the opponent's Defense is lower than its Special Defense, Porygon's Attack is raised; if the opponent's Defense is higher than its Special Defense, its Special Attack is raised instead.

In short, whichever side the opponent was weaker on got boosted—fairly advantageous for going on the offensive. Not bad at all.

The pity was that only a Porygon with the 【Trace】 Ability, when it evolved into its final form Porygon-Z, would have its Ability change to 【Adaptability】, raising the same-type attack bonus to 100%.

At first glance the final numerical boost might not even match 【Download】's, but it won out in delivering steady, consistent damage.

Still, All Baimu wasn't in any rush to evolve his Porygon to its final stage, and besides, on the internet Dr. Akihabara had never so much as mentioned the existence of Porygon-Z.

He had a feeling the thing might be rather dangerous.

After all, its evolution relied on a suspicious patch, and he recalled the Pokédex saying it was meant to let it travel to and from other dimensions.

It might well be like the anime version of Malamar, harboring some unfathomable, terrifying aspect.

The Pokémon anime team loved sneaking in things that got more disturbing the more you thought about them, never once considering the transmigrators who actually crossed over into the anime Pokémon world.

"In any case, you need to grow, my Porygon partner."

All Baimu tentatively placed his hand on Porygon's head; seeing that it showed not the slightest resistance and even cheerfully wiggled its little leg attachment, he relaxed a little.
